Glee Season 4 Spoilers – Rachel’s Mom Returns? Plus More on Eps 18 and 19

ETA: Lea confirms Idina’s return in a tweet, “I spy @idinamenzel at #Glee today! So excited to have my mama back!”  She also tweeted a photo of herself in a monitor channeling Barbra Streisand!

Glee spoilers kids! We’ve got a couple of guest stars returning to the musical comedy.  This morning, Glee star, Lea Michele, tweeted a spoiler tease:

Off to #glee tomorrow! Rachel’s gonna get a visit from a familiar face we haven’t seen in a while.. And a big audition to prepare for!

Rumor has it, that in Episode 19, titled “Sweet Dreams”, set to air April 18,  Idina Menzel will return to Glee as Rachel Berry’s mom, Shelby. The elder singer will be on hand to help her daughter prepare for an audition in an upcoming Broadway revival of Funny Girl being mounted in Glee’s fictional New York City.

Also, Real Housewife of Atlanta, NeNe Leakes, will return as Coach Roz, no doubt serving as another bee in Coach Sylvester’s bonnet. NeNe is wrapping up production on Ryan Murphy’s NBC comedy, The New Normal.

A couple of other Episode 19 spoilers: Marley writes an original song for Regionals and Finn’s college roommate is revealed. No word yet on when American Idol alum, Jessica Sanchez, will begin her story arc. (Finn’s is suddenly in college? And I hate original songs. Bleh.)

However, this very reliable spoiler site is insisting Episode 19 is NOT the regionals episode. Keep in mind–the Glee finale is TWO WEEKS LATER, on May 9th. In Season 2 and 3, Regionals happened at around episode 15, so Ryan Murphy certainly has something up his sleeve. He recently told The Hollywood Reporter:

“I loved going back and forth, and I think we’ll always have one foot in both, but I would like a big chunk to follow one particular story that we’re getting ready to launch at the end of this year,” he added of the storyline that will include Rachel and other characters. “It’s going to be a big cliffhanger.” And while another graduation would appear to be on the table for characters including Blaine (Darren Criss), Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz), Artie (Kevin McHale) and Brittany (Heather Morris), Murphy says that may not be the case. “We’re doing some weird s— on the show, just wait,” he said with a smile. “I don’t want to do what we’ve done every year; I want to do something different.”

This has lead to speculation that Glee will either continue the current school year into next season (rather than the story line adhering to real time) or there will be some crazy time jump into the future. We shall see.

Episode 18, set to air on April 11, is titled “Shooting Star” and will involve a gun incident at McKinley. Yes, there will be gunfire at the school, but reportedly nobody gets hurt.

So the entire series was all a dream from which Sue wakes up screaming. The end. ;)

    PERFECT! Lol

  • JasonG

If this is true, I would be so happy to have Idina Menzel back!! I’m a big fan of her and I was angry with how they did not wrap up her storyline in season 3. Finger crossed!

  • Seth McHale

We should be finding out who Sue’s baby daddy is, right? Didn’t they say it would be revealed before the end of the season?

  • Kariann Hart

Would this also mean she is returning with Quinn and Puck’s baby?

  • Axxxel

hehehe Reminds me of Dallas (yes I am that old) when the Bobby character wakes up and realized that the whole previous season is a dream….
Well well… if Ryan Murphy is going to do that.. after all the heartbreak we went through in that break up episode of season 4,episode 4… Imagine, no cheating Blaine and Rachel, no break up for Britanna or runaway bride…. then I don;t know whether I would like to hug Ryan or make attempts to strangle him..

  • Axxxel

Yeah, that would be fun, Rachel would have to babysit the kid for one day and make a total mess… That will hopefully teach her for being less careful.

  • Axxxel

if they still remember to reveal it….

  • Axxxel

I think the show is still fun to watch when I just ignore how inconsistent and illogical the show is. Honestly speaking I feel that the show is more consistent this season… oh well, sometimes… e.g. Finn acknowledging Kurt as a brother in the beginning of Season 4 but not anymore during that Valentine episode. And Blaine did not say anything about Burt’s health condition during that Valentine episode ?

The newer cast members aren’t strong enough to carry the McKinley portions without Darren, Chord, Kevin, Heather and Jenna. They have to extend the school year into next season. But if they make a crazy jump into the future like MJ speculated…..Rachel is a Broadway star. Kurt and Blaine are married and adopted her baby. Artie is prepping his debut indie film to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. Sam, Santana and Brittany are in a wacky love triangle! Finn and Brody have a successful man-whore service…..

  • mjsbigblog

I think it’s more likely that the school year will be extended into Season 5. And I agree. I think Murphy is hedging his bets. If he loses the rest of the core cast to graduation, it could be a disaster for the McKinley side of the story.

Finn and Brody have a successful man-whore service…..

LOL. Please make that happen Ryan Murphy.

Talking about illogical and suspension of disbelief, I was watching the latest Die Hard recently and thinking this is even more illogical and unreal and pointless than Glee and its a box office smash.

I love Season 4 more than 3 (excluding the Klaine break up) because it focus more on the story of the characters rather than some huge PSA theme. There is character development. It’s just that it drags across a few episodes and it is very subtle. For example, Finn.. he’s basically aimless right now. But I think we’ll see his story move soon. We know more about Blaine and Sam than in Season 3. Tina is singing more and she does get more lines than Season 3.

I’m thinking they don’t have a plan if the Blaine and co graduates for Season 5. But if we get one more Season of Glee. I’m not complaining.

  • JasonG

Idina is back on Glee as confirmed by Lea on twitter. Can’t wait!

  • Axxxel

Yeah for season 4. I also feel that they have no clue what to do with Blaine, even though Blaine talked about eventually going to Nyada… Seems that Season 5 will be the last season of Glee…

So people are not complaining about illogical storylines of this popular”Die Hard”series ? or is it because Glee is addressed to a younger audience that may not understand what “illogical storylines “mean? I think people are underestimating the younger public. I think they do know well what is logical or not. what is romanticized or not.. I think the teenage fanfiction are even crazier than what is shown on Glee.

  • Axxxel

oops my answer dissapeared… ok let me see… I would say”yeah” for season 4 !!! so illogical storylines should not be the problem if you compare it with “Die Hard”… maybe people make such a fuss about the illogical stories because the stories appeal to a younger audience ? I also believe that the writers have no clue what to do with Blaine, even though he wants to go to Nyada.
and eh I am still not over episode 4 (season 4), I know it is just TV, but the writers of Glee know very well how to toy with my emotions…
