Crystal Bowersox hit the Grove in Los Angeles today for an interview and performance with Mario Lopez and Extra TV.

After the jump, Crystal sings “Farmer’s Daughter”, and she duets with her husband, Brian Walker, on “Mason.”

Hey, I like Crystal and she sounds great and her husband is adorable – but what is up with the chin growth? I do not like the chin growth!

  • http://twitter.com/kenostroff negativo

Mason was very touching. Beautiful. Loved seeing the newly weds smooching at the end!! FD was stunning as always.

  • istersay

Beautiful couple, and both have great voices

  • Inconnu

Mason: very nice. A poster mentioned in their album review that it was a very cheesy song. I don’t care. I love it. And it’s very nice to see a couple in love.

  • Inconnu

but what is up with the chin growth? I do not like the chin growth!

… well, maybe Crystal likes it :-)

  • abbysee

Mason is lovely, and they smolder together. It’s really sweet to see. I always thought she was beautiful, but she’s turned up the sexy too, marriage to Brian agrees with her it seems.

  • songsungblue

She is looking very good, isn’t she? Not that this was necessary, but I think she’s lost a little weight, and she’s pulling the dreads off her lovely face. I also wonder if she isn’t being professionally styled? Some of the choices that she made on AI I shuddered at [long black witch dress, anyone?] but she’s looking way more pulled together – and I luuuuuuve that top.

  • Mahalo2

The top Crystal is wearing is the same top she wore last night at the KFOG Concert for Kids Benefit last night. :) Funny, when she did her intro before she sang, “Mason,” she mentioned that this was a “cheesy” love song she wrote for her “hubby.”

From my seat, which was about 12 rows back from the front of stage, I thought she had lost some weight, too.

  • Inconnu

I thought Mason was written by Brian originally and that she added the bridge to it in order to ‘humph’ it for the album. I’m pretty sure it will show as a co-write on the album credits.

Here is what it says on one of the original YT videos:
Mason, written by Brian Walker, is the song that inspired my sons second middle name… beautiful song. Crystal Bowersox

Inconnu, (*hits my hand on my forehead)
You’re absolutely right! She actually said “Mine All Mine” was the cheesy love song she wrote for Brian. I got my cheesy Crystal songs mixed up!! :)

Mason is very good. I like it.

    Ah Good…lol

Hey btw, thanks for your recap. I thanked you in the other thread but it’s on the 2nd page and is already obsolete in the blog world :-)

  • jammasta

Crystal Bowersox is truly up there with the Idol greats. She deserves to be a platinum artist. She has such a beautiful voice when she sings softly, and when she adds power it’s a total presence. She’s just so real. There’s something about her that just hits your soul in the face.

Mason is a freaking beautiful song. When I listened to her and Brian sing it to baby Tony, I cried uncontrollably. Real men cry. Then I tweeted Crystal about how amazing that was, and she said it was the best tweet ever! Ahh life was great that day.

I’m so freaking pumped for the 14th. Gonna listen to Farmer’s Daughter all day. I can’t freaking wait.

Am I the only one who gets a really stupid sense of laughter seeing the people in the background in the YouTube stills? They’re not funny, but I just can’t stop laughing. HAHAHAHA LOOK AT THAT BLONDE LADY SHE’S SO BLONDE LOLOLOL ROFL MAN IN BLUE SHIRT APPEARED POKEBALL GO ROFL. I dunno, I think there’s something different about me.

  • Mahalo2

    I know! :(

  • Inconnu

No Mahalo2, I don’t mean your recap being obsolete. (I know you posted it elsewhere in another thread), I mean my thank you. I wasn’t sure if you saw it (being on the 2nd page).

ETA: Jammasta, I think people behind Crystal were aware of being on TV and were watching their movements and actions. I personally didn’t like seeing them there. I found that distracting.

ETA2: I agree with you. That video of little Tony sleeping and them signing that song is very special. Really. And yes. Real men cry.

  • girlygirl

Does anyone know when this will be shown on Extra? (If it is like the previous things they have been taping in recent weeks at The Grove for this show, they will only show one song (likely FD) and might not even show the whole performance)

  • Q3

Crystal looks great and they sound wonderful!

  • http://www.dancin.ca dancin

mason awwwwwwwwwwww that song just goes thru me absolutely beautiful

  • fuzzywuzzy

she’s pulling the dreads off her lovely face

It looks like she may be growing out her dreadlocks. Crystal is looking very lovely in these appearances.

  • meyers77

Their voices really do go well together. Miss You, Kiss You and All Over Me are another songs they sing together that are really nice.

Brian does look a little lost (where do I stand, what to do with my hands) without his guitar though. :)

And I was just thinking the other day, it looks like she has lost a little weight. Not that she really needed to, but it can’t hurt with diabetes control.

  • fuzzywuzzy

According to this report, it looks like Crystal’s appearance on Leno will be with just Frankie.

The Elliston, Ohio, American Idol runner-up will be on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno Friday (11:30 p.m., WNWO-TV, Channel 24) along with her long-time bass player, Frankie May of Toledo.

Right after Idol ended, I remember Crystal appeared on one of the late night talk shows with a full band and backup singers, so this will be a change from that.

Here’s a new review of FD from an AI blogger who appears to be a Cook fan. It gives a song by song critique and rating, with an overall rating of 7.6.

This tweet from Jeff Kazee, the keyboard player on the album suggests otherwise. Remains to be seen if she´ll have a full band.

His opinion on individual songs is surprisingly close to mine. Exceptions would be the very high praise for Mason and the low for Mine all Mine, although I heard the Carpenters as he did. I also agree when he says:

“I actually won’t be surprised if she gets good reviews from legitimate music critics.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Mason really is lovely. Their voices blend so well together.

Does anyone know if she has an endorsement deal with Takamine? I get the impression she plays them often, although I haven’t been religious in keeping up with her live footage.

  • fictitiousreality

Guilty as charged, I was one of the ppl who said Mason was cheesy lol :#. But watching them perform its just sooo breathtaking, phew. Those two are so into the music, my god…so much passion.

I think RWTR is the one song on the album that lost something from adding the full band. It has such a perfect toe-tapping rhythm unplugged.

  • Lightspeed Dialer

Miley Cyrus’ “Hannah Montana Forever” B+ and Crystal Bowersox’ “Farmer’s Daughter” C review by Mikael, shit for brains, from EW. After reading that I laughed so hard I broke 2 ribs. WTF is wrong with this guy? Doesn’t he know that people are laughing their asses off at him? His crediability is shot and he did it to himself. Way to go! Freakin Clown! Can’t laugh at you anymore, my sides are hurting!

To the videos. Just wish there was someway, somehow that the yapper’s could shut their pie-holes when Crystal is singing. Don’t like the duet, “Mason” with Crystal. I would have like to have listened to Casey James and Crystal. That could have great potential?

Has anyone noticed how Bowersox has been so loyal to her friends? Almost to a fault! She is a class act! And a difficult one to follow. Don’t want to expand on that one, might upset some hens?

  • BeachBum

Negativo said – “I think RWTR is the one song on the album that lost something from adding the full band. It has such a perfect toe-tapping rhythm unplugged.”

For the most part, I like the full band, but I have to agree with you on RWTR. I think the full band would have been OK, but I DEFINITELY did NOT like the Harmonica. It makes the song way too “Honky Tonk… which doesn’t really reflect the rest of the album. It’s still good, but too much Harmonica!!

  • glamertitis

Put me in the minority, but those videos were so boring… seriously, what am I missing? Good voice or no, there is no presence, no pizzazz, no nothing. Maybe I am spoiled by Adam, but seriously how is that going to garner more fans? Make people want to buy her music? That was like watching “paint” dry – I couldn’t finish either video

  • CindyM

I really liked that. glatertitis, Crystal is a totally different kind of artist than Adam. They are both true to themselves when they perform and I’m glad that they are. I like that they have a mutual respect going on with each other and not gonna lie, when Crystal tweeted Adam about singing together, the thought was intriguing…they are both fantastically talented vocalists, but I can’t picture them singing together, but I bet they’d be able to work it out. I like that they follow each other on twitter.

  • plays strings

Maybe I am spoiled by Adam, but seriously how is that going to garner more fans?

Because music is an art and there is a little something for everybody. I like some of Adam’s music but I wonder what would make people want to buy it. Seems like a lot of flash and little substance for most of it.

They are both immensely talented and I also think they could “work something out”.

  • songsungblue

Hey, different music speaks to different people. I completely understand why some critics are going to find Crystal dull. She reminds me of the days of EmmyLou Harris or Bonnie Raitt. Beautiful women and gorgeous singers but I remember a friend of mine saying she was going to shoot herself in the leg if she had to listen to I Can’t Make You Love Me one more time. And another friend just cried every time she heard it.

I think Crystal shines in duets. It softens her to sing with her husband.
