Watch this clip from the November 6 episode of Law & Order: Special Victims unit, featuring American Idol alums, Taylor Hicks and Clay Aiken, plus R&B singer Ashanti playing themselves as judges on a fictional reality singing competition.

They seem like an interesting trio. But they got along great! I am looking forward to this cameo. A lot of shows are really using better known guest stars lately!

  • jeff2683

That was a fun video! I would love to hang out with those three!!
I am also looking forward to this episode!

Law and Order: SUV– the family-sized vehicle edition. On tonight’s episode, a Ford Explorer gets engaged to a Jeep Cherokee, only to find out he’s been tailgating minivans against their will!

  • curlyenta

I might watch this ;) Ok, who am I foolin’…. Woooo! Is it Nov 6 yet?

  • Peg

Cute vid! Kind of surreal seeing Clay and Taylor together. That’s some serious Idol history.

  • arisson

I love Law & Order so I would be watching this it with or without these three guest stars, but I think I am looking forward to this episode more than usual. Good interview. They all seem to get along well and are full of charisma.

  • bestmusic

Fun interview they seem to along really well. Love SUV, watch every week so this just makes the show better in my world.

What about the rest of it?

  • fuzzywuzzy

Maybe, that’s all that there is? lol

  • Not fit to print

A friend of mine is a huge Taylor Hicks fan. I told her about this yesterday and it made her week. I’m gonna have to tape it (and Glee on the 7th) but Saturday morning I will get out the popcorn (and cover my eyes during the SVU stuff.) O/

  • waitingforthe1

well Clay did say if you blink you’ll miss him. Can’t imagine there is much more to their appearance than this.

  • Kariann Hart

It’s just so cool seeing these three together. Loved the slight reference to Simon by Clay. LOL. Looking forward to seeing the show. What a cool opportunity.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Yeah, Simon was pretty brutal to both Taylor and Clay on Idol. I don’t blame Clay for taking a little “shot” at him. lol

  • curlyenta

The positive PR that is coming out of the episode for all 3 of them is worth its weight in gold regardless of the length of the appearance. That said‚ it looks to me that at least 2 scenes are with them. To top it off‚ all the sneak peaks and twitter pics from the show runner have Taylor, Clay & Ashanti in them.

  • Mel432

If there are more than two scenes, then Clay was wrong in saying if you blink you’ll miss him.

  • curlyenta

I agree! This panel looks a hell of alot lot better than AI’s trainwreck from last year…. and the year before. lol

  • fuzzywuzzy

I think that it’s hard for any one to know how the final edit of the show is going to look. With this kind of cameo/stunt casting, the onscreen time is usually pretty brief.

  • curlyenta

Hmm, not always. I can think of a 1/2 dozen Idol alumni that have appeared or are appearing as a stunt that were more than a brief appearance. But whatever. It doesn’t really matter. The PR is worth its weight in Gold regardless of the appearance time – and getting that step into the acting door. Rather have a brief memorable appearance then get dragged thru the mud for a big role and lousy acting (usually the case).

  • fuzzywuzzy

I think that it depends on whether they are appearing as themselves vs. having a role as a character on the show. Clay has had two roles where he played a character on the show (Scrubs, Drop Dead Diva), and those involved a fair bit of dialogue and screen time. When he’s played himself (30 rock, The Office), there has been far less dialogue and screen time. Same with Crystal Bowersox (Body of Proof) and Daughtry (CSI), who played characters, so had more dialogue and screen time. Since Carly is playing a character in the “Dissonant Voices” episode of SVU, I would expect her part to have more dialogue and onscreen time than a cameo playing herself.

  • curlyenta

Actually, it’s more prestigious to have a part “as themselves” regardless of the amount of dialogue. Those roles are usually reserved for very recognizable names, wouldn’t you say?

  • fuzzywuzzy

lol I don’t regard this kind of cameo/stunt casting as “prestigious”. Ultimately, it depends on the goal of the celeb. If they are interested in obtaining actual acting roles, then being cast as a character, where acting ability is required/desired, is preferable and more “prestigious” than a brief cameo playing themselves (where no acting ability is necessary).

  • curlyenta

Oh I think it’s quite common for lousy actors and reality show contestants to score actually “parts” on TV shows and even be a lead on a show and be completely incapable of a believable performance. Bad acting or no acting ability isn’t reserved for “as themselves” parts, that’s for sure.

In the end, tho, I’m just gonna enjoy the show and leave it at that.

  • fuzzywuzzy

“Bad acting or no acting ability isn’t reserved for “as themselves” parts, that’s for sure.”

Of course, and I never said that celebs who do cameos ARE “bad actors”, just that usually, acting ability is not a requirement/consideration for them playing themselves. I have to say though, that all of the “guest stars” (people playing actual roles) on any of the Law and Order shows have always been good, and sometimes excellent actors/actresses, regardless of their origins. I’m curious to see how Carly does.

ETA: Carly Rose was somewhat of a “ringer” on her season of the X-Factor, and has had quite a lot of experience in musical theater and acting.

  • Corrine43180

Taylor needs to step away from the Las Vegas buffets, looking pretty chunky in those pics.

  • Mel432

Curlyenta said: Actually, it’s more prestigious to have a part “as themselves” regardless of the amount of dialogue. Those roles are usually reserved for very recognizable names, wouldn’t you say?

More prestigious if you are Lady Gaga or Justin Timberlake. I wouldn’t say Taylor has a very recognizable name. Probably Clay more than Taylor, tho. Ron Howard’s brother had many cameos in Ron’s movies, and most people didn’t even know that.

In this new article, Taylor says he has 3 scenes and a ‘handful of lines”! Not bad for a novice, first time actor. Can’t wait!!

  • curlyenta

He’s always so generous with other musicians and actors!
