I’m guessing this will be a big seller. :)

Ahh I want this so badly…Super Duper Excited…
    I can’t wait…

  • Eileen99

Fantastic album cover, I love it!!  The colors are great, love everything about it.

  • babylockthemdoors

It might still be too early in his career for Scotty to do a Christmas album, but I’m nevertheless excited about this! Are there other big name artists (all-genre) releasing Christmas albums this year?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sim-Ai-Khaw/100002537599337 Sim Ai Khaw

great christmas cover i like it

  • fantoo1

Great album cover! Hope it does well!

  • Listening

Umm he strikes me as a kid playing dress up, like he’s trying to pretend he’s 30 but we all know he’s only about 19. He looks way to pensive for me just too serious.

It probably will do well though, he had a top selling album and people do love their Christmas albums that’s why artists do them. I predict debuts in the top 10.

  • lovetheusa1776

One of the best things I can say about my favorite singer is that the chance of his ever making a Christmas album is close to zero.

  • HKfan

    it doesn’t look very exciting…

  • dd999

Finally we’ll be getting another album from Scotty! Yay! I think the album cover is classy, just like Scotty. The guy is very comfortable in knowing how to dress for the occasion. Recently he was in a golf tournament and attended the very posh dinner in a tuxedo, where he auctioned off 2 of his guitars for cancer research, and man did he look sharp in the pictures that followed!

  • mileyfan123

     Why? I love Christmas music.

  • fantoo1

Well it’s not a bad thing to make a Christmas album. It’s a great way to keep fans invested while waiting for the next real album and it gives the artist extra money. Nothing wrong with that.

  • Chrissie H

I´m thrilled that my favorite singer releases a Christmas album. Perfect choice to do as his voice is perfect for those songs. And the cover is a great choice. It illustrates the X-mas season and reflects the calm, confident, relaxed and classy Scotty who says that Christmas is not only about Santa. Now off to preorder and inform my Scotty -fan -friends and co-workers :D

  • babylockthemdoors

Don’t you think it would be better if Scotty’s album gets released a week earlier, like October 9 so that it will have a chance to debut at #1 in country charts? If I’m not mistaken, Jason Aldean’s album will drop by October 16, and that for sure is going to be number 1. The next week, October 22 will be all about Taylor Swift’s Red. I think it will sit comfortably atop the charts all the way to Thanksgiving and Christmas. Blake Shelton’s Christmas album is coming out I think October 2, so October 9 would have been perfect for Scotty to sneak in at number 1. :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000135915239 Malditah So

Well lets just see what happens..I have faith in Scotty.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000135915239 Malditah So

Well that’s your opinion not everybody thinks that way sorry :) ..

  • http://twitter.com/bagel08 John S

Well that’s probably a good thing, because your favorite(Who I have seen is Adam Lambert) wouldn’t be believable singing Christmas songs.

  • HKfan

I didn’t say they had to, I thought one of the rules of the blog was that we were able to give ‘our’ opinions about Idols……

  • CassandraSC

Great album cover! Cant wait for it to come out! I’m going to pre-order several from the record company as gifts. I want it to debut high on the charts for Scotty.

  • suenigma

That is a charming and tasteful album cover, and I think Scotty is a very handsome, classy young man. He is not cookie cutter, you know. He is truly unique, and his calmness, intelligence and confidence just add to his appeal. Not being a big Country music listener, I can`t say I`m a huge fan, but I have genuine admiration for him. I get the feeling that if it were all over tomorrow he would just shrug his shoulders and become a doctor or something. Which basically ensures that he will be around for a long time, of course. LOL.

  • eyelinerandcigarettes

THAT IS A FREAKING GORGEOUS COVER.

  • fuzzywuzzy

My first impression of the cover is that Scotty looks good, but it’s not very “Chrismas-y”, and the text kind of blends a bit too much with the background on the right, so it’s a bit hard to read. I think that Scotty will do a very nice job with Christmas songs and this is a nice treat for his fans.

  • http://twitter.com/LexieONeill Lexie O’Neill

I love the album cover, love Christmas music, and can’t wait for this.  I did wonder who else was debuting that week…Jason Aldean?  Aargh…

    Still excited, though:))

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

Yes, the eye is drawn right to Scotty – He looks good. I like the crisp, clean lines look – not usually a fan of excessive glitz, overly cheesy or ‘cooler/hipper than thou’ cover art . Those things IMO usually serve to mask or cover up deficiencies of some sort in the talent, or the material.  This one doesn’t require a lot of analysis or art breakdowns into composition or lack thereof – Scotty stands out in an eyecatching way on the cover – it’s what’s inside the cover that will go further in selling this CD. Here’s wishing him well, and good sales too.

  • http://twitter.com/LindsayKempFan Not fit to print

LOL  - Adam Lambert would never do it, which is too bad in a way because his voice would be amazing on Christmas carols.

I am sure this cd will be a hit and Scottie has great management. This is a great bridge over the gap between first and second cd’s. Keep the momentum going.

  • leigh953

love the cover, not worried about Jason’s album coming out the same week, Scotty can hold his own after all it’s a Christmas album

  • http://twitter.com/LindsayKempFan Not fit to print

Knowing Scottie, the “what to wear” conversation was probably interesting. My guess is he would have been fine with a plaid shirt but they probably convinced him that Christmas is a special occasion and he should/could dress for it. It suggests another side of him, expanding the image.

His voice will be interesting on Christmas carols.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

What a relief for the rest of us! Whewww! Judging from the piss poor sales of what was touted to be a surefire winner of an album of songs in the tired been there done that recycled electronic-disco-dance-funk vein, no wayyy he’d be able to sell what ultimately breaks down as “Ice to an Eskimo” in a Christmas album.  His generosity and kindness in sparing our ears is nice.  Hmmmm… if RCA would release a Lambert Christmas CD on the comedy chart, it might get that number 1. In the meantime we’ll let Scotty continue running with the big dogs and continue racking up sales on the big dog chart.

  • fuzzywuzzy

“Are there other big name artists (all-genre) releasing Christmas albums this year?”

According to Amazon.com, Rod Stewart, Blake Shelton, Barry Manilow, Kenny Rogers, Elvis, Reba, The Oak Ridge Boys, Katherine Jenkins, Jackie Evancho, Chris Mann (The Voice), Mandisa (AI), Kem and others are releasing Xmas CDs/EPs in 2012.

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_p_n_date_2?rh=n%3A5174%2Ck%3Achristmas%2Cp_n_date%3A1249114011&bbn=5174&keywords=christmas&ie=UTF8&qid=1346670479&rnid=1249111011

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

Let’s see… from that list, I’ll probably get Rod Stewart, Kem, Mandisa and Katherine Jenkins’ Christmas CD’s… there will be lots of Christmas CD’s hitting the market soon, so there’s lotsa time to listen and check a few out…

  • http://twitter.com/TarheelShari Sharon S.

nvm – can’t respond to comments about my post without breaking board rules.

edit: Then why the hell even mention it?

  • pugface1

All I took for lovetheusa1776′s post was they don’t like Xmas music, and that Lambert is very unlikely to do a Xmas album as he’s Jewish.

IMO the onus for ‘nasty comments’ is always on a poster irrespective of whether or not a previous post was innocuous.

  • bridgette12

Understood and agreed with what you said.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

It’s about SCOTTY MCCREERY’S CD cover for his Christmas album… but invariably, one certain Idol alum just seems to get inserted into every conversation or post about other Idols. It’s about SCOTTY’s shine up in here.

  • bridgette12

That’s true, it should be about Scotty and fans and non fans of Adam shouldn’t make it about Adam.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

Like James Brown said in the song Static… ”don’t start none, won’t be none”. It’s about Scotty – all day long in the thread. Keeping Adam’s or any other Idols name out my mouth or comments doesn’t pose a problem for me in SCOTTY MCCREERY’s thread. It’s about SCOTTY up in here, respect.

  • bridgette12

I am bowing out of the conversation and the thread because after a while it becomes a bunch of petty bullshit. Congrats to the Scotty fans because it’s a good album cover.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

True that re the repetitive petty bullshit… I think Scotty will sell like hotcakes with this Christmas CD, which will help keep his name out there till the new year and a new cd rolls around.

  • BonnieDee

From the list of Christmas albums coming out posted by fuzzywuzzy, I would get The Oak Ridge Boys, Blake Shelton, Mandisa, Rod Stewart, and Jackie Evancho.  Have to check them out though.

  • BonnieDee

Jason Aldean’s Night Train is dropping October 16 and Taylor Swift’s Red comes out October 22.  So there will be some big name competition.   Blake Shelton, Cheers, It’s Christmas will be dropping October 2.  Blake’s got duets with Reba and Michael Buble on there, as well as a duet with his mother.  So lots of competition.  I wish Scotty and all of them good sales.

  • fuzzywuzzy

“No track list yet, but we do know that the list might include “All I Want Is You”, written by Justin Bieber and Brandon Hamilton. Yaaas! The Biebs!”

I just listened to this song sung by Justin (from his “Under the Mistletoe” CD from last year):

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vk0r_mq4O6Q

If this song is on Scotty’s album, I’m curious to hear the change in arrangement.

  • koshka

Well.. my thoughts on Scotty’s album cover. He looks like a banker on casual friday. No biggie though, cds are not sold on their covers. Folks who want it will buy it.

  • Tess

If I remember correctly Scotty had mostly positive response from fans, critics, and media last Christmas season when he performed during Christmas time gigs.  And for me I enjoyed those songs whether religious or novelty and I think there will be an audience for this album.  Its always nice to add another voice singing those Christmas standards, especially when some radio stations like to entertain us with seasonal cheer from Thanksgiving forward.

I, personally, don’t think that a label cares too much if a Christmas release tops the sales charts or “debuts” at no. 1 (has anyone other than Josh Grobin or Michael Buble done that recently?) and if sales are moderately successful 20 to 50k the album is a winner since most of the songs don’t have writers who need to be paid.

I think this is a nice move for Scotty and is a nice gift to his fanbase…and I don’t really think that it will have a long term affect on his career since most everyone, sooner or later, puts out some kind of holiday album (heh, Elliott Yamin (sp) did one and he’s juewish).

  • http://twitter.com/cindydesigns Cindy Moniz

    Woohoo!  I’m excited! :D

  • http://twitter.com/LindsayKempFan Not fit to print

Blake is going to clean up with those duets. WOW!

I think Scottie’s cd will do well regardless of the competition. Christmas cd’s aren’t about being #1 anyway, they are about sales. Scottie will get sales.

  • lovetheusa1776

Thanks for getting it, pugface1 – appreciate it.

And I think Scotty looks very handsome and sure he’ll do very well with this album.  Wish him the best with it.

  • DB987

I like the album cover  Scotty does that deep thoughtful star really well.  I have never bought a Christmas CD the amount of xmas music on the radio during the holidays is plenty for me.  I do however wish Scotty good sales and I know his fans are happy to be getting it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/shelby.walker.5011 Shelby Walker

“has anyone other than Josh Grobin or Michael Buble done that recently? (debut at #1)”
Josh Groban’s Noel debuted at #9 with 62,000 in the first week. Only after Oprah got on board did it start selling well.

Scotty has a gorgeous voice and should do very well.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Neither Josh Groban’s CD (“Noel”) nor Michael Buble’s CD (“Christmas”) debuted at #1, but both went on to sell incredibly well, so debuting #1 for a Christmas album has little to do with its ultimate sales. “Noel” has been RIAA certified 5X plantinum, and at the end of 2011 “Christmas” had sold in excess of 2.4 million units.

“Noel” (released on October 9, 2007) debuted at #10 on the BB200 with 64,000 in sales:

    10 GROBAN*JOSH NOEL 63,971 1,076 999 65,048

    http://pulsemusic.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=gmn&thread=53656&page=1#1218083

It reached #1 on the week ending November 27, 2007:

After seven weeks on the chart, Josh Groban’s
holiday set “Noel” finally overtakes The Billboard 200 at No. 1. The
143/Reprise album ascends 2-1, selling 405,000 copies in the U.S.,
    according to Nielsen SoundScan.

    http://pulsemusic.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=gmn&thread=53735&page=1#1223659

Then, it stayed at #1 for the following 4 weeks, until the end of 2007:

    http://pulsemusic.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=gmn&thread=53765&page=1#1224667

When Nielsen SoundScan refreshes its charts tomorrow
morning (Dec. 19), Groban’s “Noel” will show a 15% gain for a weekly sum
of 669,000, the largest stanza for any Christmas album since Kenny G’s
“Miracles — The Holiday Album” rang 819,000 in the Christmas week of
1994. That is the largest week measured by a holiday album in Nielsen
    SoundScan history.

“Josh Groban’s Noel debuted at #9 with 62,000 in the first week.”

That ranking and sales figure is incorrect and is the estimate from HDD:

    http://pulsemusic.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=gmn&thread=53652&page=1#1217512

not the official SoundScan sales figure and BB200 ranking (#10 with sales of 64,000)

    http://pulsemusic.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=gmn&thread=53656&page=1#1218083

“Only after Oprah got on board did it start selling well.”

Noel had been selling well before the Oprah appearance, especially the week before:

    6 WAR 8 6 2 GROBAN*JOSH NOEL 223,306 93 115,562 599,958

    http://pulsemusic.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=gmn&thread=53722&page=1#1222619

Plus, the Oprah appearance (November 20) was during  Thanksgiving week and Black Friday, so although I’m sure that Oprah’s endorsement provided a sales boost, I suspect that “Noel” would have sold extremely well that week regardless.

  • flactyguy

I’m not much of a “Christmas…y” guy, but I will definitely get this to see the spin that Scotty puts on the old classics. I hope the accompaniment is done well. The cover is classy which befits the artist!

What’s really nice is seeing that his management…for what was probably very little cost… is keeping his name out there. We’ve seen in the past what happens when long periods go by with “nothing” to maintain a singer’s public profile.

  • http://twitter.com/BamadansPad Danny Latham

A great early Christmas present for McCreerians everywhere!! I can’t wait to see the track list for this one. I’m sure Scotty put his heart and soul into this one as only he can. Expect this to be a good seller and to whet our appetite for new Scotty music next year.

  • Lucie Laniel

This album cover is everything I expected of Scotty and more. Blue looks gorgeous on him and the red door and the right side of the album shows just enough of the Christmas flavour that the album represent.

Would have really liked if the release date would have been October 9th, which is Scotty’s 19th birthday but hey, I will buy and buy no matter when it comes out.

  • http://www.facebook.com/shelby.walker.5011 Shelby Walker

“Plus, the Oprah appearance (November 20) was during  Thanksgiving week and Black Friday”
Yes, that was when sales took off. Both Josh and Michael Buble were on Oprah’s very favorite things shows on their respective years. There is no bigger endorsement, or was.

I hope Scotty gets that kind of push.

  • mchcat

There was quick 30 sec blub on U tube but it has been taken down. He mentioned, The First Noel, Holly Jolly Christmas and Santa Clause is Back in Town.  He made mention of Let It Snow and the Christmas song – maybe these are some of the tracks.  Also there will 2 original songs personally I was hoping for Christmas Cookies

  • Kitwana

I’m surprised more Idols have not tried Christmas albums. They’re cheap to make, don’t take a lot of time to record and can sell well. I know that some Idols look down on Christmas albums but when someone like Bieber can release a Christmas CD and promote it like a pop cd, I think the stigma with releasing one has pretty much gone out the door. Further, if the Christmas album sells well and makes the label money, it’s more likely that the label will give the Idol a second chance if the sophomore cd does not do as well as expected. All good for Scotty. People like David Cook, Kris Allen and Lee Dewyze should follow Scotty’s lead and consider releasing Christmas CDs, this year or next.

  • http://twitter.com/LexieONeill Lexie O’Neill

Just curious…does it make sense for those who are struggling with sales to make such an album?  I’ve seen others do an EP instead, still in their genre. I know their fans would love it, but…promotion has to cost something, etc.  Interesting…

  • http://twitter.com/LexieONeill Lexie O’Neill

Oh, I really do hope he gets some good promotion for the Christmas album–for the fans’ sake, just as much as sales:))

  • Oksana4626

Sorry, but this album cover is terrible, Scotty looks like 29-yr old accountant. Adding few snowflakes doesn’t make it more Christmasy.
It will sell well as it will be nice stocking stuffer for Scotty fans during X-mas time. Innovative and  interesting? I doubt it.

  • Incipit

People like David Cook, Kris Allen and Lee Dewyze should follow Scotty’s lead and consider releasing Christmas CDs, this year or next.

Heh. I don’t know about the other two, Kitwana – never heard them address that question – thought De Wyze did a cover of “O Holy Night” – IIRC. Maybe it wasn’t him. But – DC and an album of Christmas covers? NGH. (Well, the equivalent of that answer, which is “never say never, but…” – same thing he said when asked about a non-seasonal album of covers in May.)

Closest we’ll get are the two songs from the Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting (and Disneyworld at Christmas time) back in ’08 – and they are very nice songs indeed.  “Happy Christmas, War is Over” – and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”…both with David’s own flavor added – but at least they weren’t “Man in the Box”  - David’s idea of a holiday song for the 2008 Jingle Ball promos.  *snerk*

ETA: DC’s actual answer to would he make a Christmas album was that Twisted Sister had that covered. Which, they do – with ‘A Twisted Christmas’. lol

As ptebwwong says – not everyone can just make a Christmas Album…not everyone wants to.

  • fuzzywuzzy

“Yes, that was when sales took off”

As I posted below, sales for “Noel” would have taken off regardless because that was the week of Thanksgiving and Black Friday sales. Josh has a huge fanbase.

“Both Josh and Michael Buble were on Oprah’s very favorite things shows
on their respective years. There is no bigger endorsement, or was. ”

Josh’s “Noel” was still on Oprah’s Favorite things list for 2011, but Buble’s “Christmas” CD was not.

    http://www.oprah.com/gift-list/O-Magazine-2011-Holiday-Gift-Guide-Oprah-Holiday-Gift-Guide/1

In addition, Oprah’s last network show was on May 25, 2011, long before any promotion for Buble’s CD was happening (released on October 25, 2011), and her new show on OWN, “Oprah’s Next Chapter”, did not debut until January 1, 2012, so Buble could not have promoted his Christmas CD on her show. Michael’s Christmas television Special on NBC (December 21) was most likely the main promotional vehicle for “Christmas”, however, sales had been very high for a couple of weeks before its airing. Buble also has a huge fanbase.

    http://www.nbc.com/holidays/a-michael-buble-christmas/

With both CDs and not suprsingly, sales increased dramatically as Christmas approached.

  • ptebwwong

I don’t think it makes sense for Idols who are struggling in sales like David Cook or Kris to do a Christmas album. It might have made sense in between their 1st & 2nd albums to have done one considering they had a long period in between those albums & their 1st albums had good sales.

But I don’t think everyone can just make a Xmas album & expect good sales. Certain genres don’t make much sense to make Xmas albums like rap or rock & even if artists in those genres do release a Xmas album I don’t think they expect it to sell very well.

Also, your fanbase has to make sense to buy a Christmas album. IMO I think Kris fans would have been willing to buy an album, but not David. I don’t think Cook’s fanbase would buy a Xmas album. I don’t think it mattered what Lee released or did because I don’t think he still would have sold well. It doesn’t make sense for GaGa, Katy Perry, etc. to do Xmas albums because their fanbases don’t want one & probably wouldn’t listen to it anyway.

Scotty’s fanbase & genre make sense to do a Xmas album & I expect it to do very well. I wouldn’t be surprised if it even sells more than Blake Shelton’s Christmas album. Blake’s album sales are not great for a country star. He sells better in singles.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I agree, making a Xmas album isn’t a good idea for all (or even most) artists. I do think that Chris Mann releasing a Christmas EP is a very good move, especially since he’s a singer in the Groban popera vein and will likely appeal to fans who like Josh and classical crossover enthusiasts, and Groban’s “Noel” has sold over 5 million units.

  • jpfan2

I think this is all about not paying royalties and taking advantage of a popular Idol who can get away with selling Xmas music. Rappers, rockers, pop stars not so much. Country singers, HAC types yes. I think the label will probably be happy if this sells about 50//60K and thrilled with anything more than that.

Plus if Scotty’s career has longevity, they can sell it every Xmas season for a few extra bucks!

  • too-cool-for-school

Haha, the cover is pretty bad. Couldn’t they have photoshopped some snow in the clearly summery, green background on the left side? XD

But good luck to him with the album anyhow.

  • Kitwana

I think popstars have always released Christmas CDs. Destiny’s Child did. Christina Aguilera released a Christmas CD before her second pop album. Even Gaga released a Christmas EP last year. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2065863/Lady-Gaga-A-Very-Gaga-Holiday-Surprise-Christmas-album.html. It’s all about making money for the label. If a Christmas cd sells 250,000 units but costs a fraction of what a pop album costs, the label makes money and will be more likely to look past a sophomore slump. Since most Idols suffer sophomore slumps, why not strengthen your position with the label by releasing a money making Christmas cd before the next pop cd is ready?

Yes, Susan Boyle in 2010 with her 2nd album The Gift. Susan DEBUTED at #1 and it was the best debut week in history for a Christmas album, plus she’s the only woman to reach #1 with a Christmas album on Billboard 200, and is tied with Elvis for second most weeks at #1 (behind Buble and Groban at 5 weeks). Double platinum in the US and 4 million worldwide.

Everything about this project – from possible songs to that….cover – makes me snort with laughter.  Scotty is the nearest thing to Lawrence Welk this decade will ever know.  Heh, heh.

There are a lot of words I’d use to describe Scotty, but ‘cool’ is not one of them. ;)

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

Christmas albums aren’t supposed to be innovative or interesting – people like them traditional – that’s what sells. Scotty appears to me a more ‘traditional’ type of country artist, so he is right in his wheelhouse in regard to hitting his home base and reaching beyond it to sell if his marketing team is on point. And I expect them to be. I look for his sales to be stellar, and for him to appear on many specials to promote it – Fa la la la la, la la la laaaaa cha-ching! :)

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

I take that to mean his name is or will be a household word? Cool – everyone at least knows who Lawrence Welk is!  Wow, some of these alum are going at it all wrong – who’d have thunk the ‘Alfred E. Neuman’ (sp?) of Idol would outshine or outlast some of the flashier and more vocally bombastic alum who are still trying to get over? Thumbs up to Scotty and Co. for making ‘vanilla’ pretty darn cool :)

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

Yep, everybody it seems in the industry tries to get in on the surefire money that Christmas cd’s generate – even Jewish singers who you’d think a Christmas CD (or those who have written some of the most enduring standards) would be a definite nonstarter. Labels and singers of all races,  religions, belief systems etc. tend not to forego almost guaranteed money that these CD’s produce. Making them doesn’t confer or take away ‘cool’ points – at some time or other in many careers big and small, a Christmas CD will be part of the repetoire. I don’t stay pressed at any artists’ hustle these days to get paid legally. They gotta eat too :)

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

‘Cool’ – like everything, is in the eye of the beholder.

(Leans in to whisper in ear)  Something tells me his sales after the season will be a sight to behold. *wink* Christmas is the season of ‘vanilla’.  Old boy knows what he’s doin’.

  • BonnieDee

Oh sorry it was on a list of Christmas CDs to be released that I found on the net.  Now I see it’s Songs from the Silver Screen

I have no idea who Lawrence Welk is…should I?????

  • fuzzywuzzy

Evancho is releasing 2 CDs. One is the movie songs,
“Songs from the Silver Screen” to be released on October 2:

    http://www.amazon.com/Songs-Silver-Screen-Jackie-Evancho/dp/B008R3EYWM/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1346713789&sr=1-1&keywords=Jackie+Evancho

and the other is “Heavenly Christmas”, which was only available as an “import” last year and is being re-released domestically on October 16:

Both are available for pre-order now.

I have a couple of xmas cd’s from years ago, 1 being a double cd of xmas number 1′s that we do normally put on on Christmas Day. But in reality I don’t know anyone that buys christmas cd’s. By December eveyone I know is so fed up with all the christmas songs that have been playing in the shops since october that the last thing they want is to listen to christmas music at home or in the car!!!

but saying that, if my ‘favourite’ were to make a christmas cd, I would certainly buy it…..even if I never listened to it. and given the genre Scotty is in, I;m sure his will sell very well..

  • fuzzywuzzy

“I look for his sales to be stellar”

What sales figure do you regard as “stellar”?

  • fuzzywuzzy

Only if you’re ancient. lol LW was an American institution on television and had a weekly variety show featuring “Old-fashioned, melodic music” (description from my TV listings) that was a favorite of middle America. He was the most un-cool guy ever, but laughing all the way to the bank. lol

Here’s the classic closing theme song from the show:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMvqPffzDMQ

It should give you an idea of the kind of show it was. It’s still shown on PBS stations, so there’s still an audience for that kind of show and music.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

For a Xmas CD, from a traditional Country artist AI winner? I’d think clearing 100k+ for him will start becoming stellar in my book. IIRC, David A’s Xmas cd has sold over 200k to date? I think Scotty has potential to met and exceed that, easily.  I don’t think he will match Clay’s numbers on his 1st Xmas CD, but he’ll easily sell at least 100k. Pretty darn stellar in my book. Lots of artists struggling to sell 100k with a much longer promo market/window. After the 1st 100k will be when the fun begins for Scotty.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

We can only police or restrain our individual selves. How others choose to handle themselves or respond is on them. I think everyone involved here are grown folks – our snowflakes certainly don’t need us to police or defend them – in my mind I think they could really care less what anyone says about them, as long as somebody is talking about them.  Most of them know how the game is played – it’s the fans that need to be schooled at times.

  • fuzzywuzzy

” For a Xmas CD, from a traditional Country artist AI winner? I’d think
clearing 100k+ for him will start becoming stellar in my book.”

OK, thanks. So you consider 100,000+ for such an album “stellar sales”? Interesting. I would consider that “good” sales. My definition of “stellar” would be “exceptional”, at least platinum.

  • Oksana4626

it’s the fans that need to be schooled at times.

And you decided to be a schoolmaster?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

He’s as ubiquitous in American culture as… cheese, lol. Not the brightest, or shiniest, or the most hip or sexy thing out there – but it’s there, been around forever, regardless how many new upstarts come on the scene to dethrone it, plain old American cheese still sells by the truckload. There is a huge market for those things deemed unhip in America – Lawrence Welk and cheese are here to stay. As are cheesy reality music shows, and Christmas CD’s :)

  • ptebwwong

I think you need to look at the genre. Many country Christmas albums in history didn’t even sell 250K including Brad, Faith, Reba, etc. So “stellar” sales in country would be considered 250K.

Remember people saying Scotty opening with first week sales of his album of about 195K wasn’t good. But it was amazing for a country artist. This is the same idea that you need to consider it’s the country genre.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

Nah, not delusional enough to think he is in Groban, Bocelli or Buble territory with platinum + sales for Christmas CD’s. What fool would set him up with such ridiculously high benchmarks? 100k+ for Scotty IMO will be stellar. If – very big if – it looks like he’s going to pull a Groban or a Bocelli or Buble in sales, then I reserve the right to be gobsmacked, then I’ma sit back and enjoy every minute of it – as heads explode all around, lolol… It’s going to be a lot of fun watching.

  • Oksana4626

I’m glad that we finally agreed on quality of Scotty’s music.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

I decided nothing… just made an observation. Those are words you’ve inferred or are projecting all by your lonesome… :)

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

Hahahahah – how did you arrive at that? I may think nothing of the kind – that’s your inference, not mine. :)

  • fuzzywuzzy

“What fool would set him up with such ridiculously high benchmarks? 100k+ for Scotty IMO will be stellar”

I thought that you were using “stellar” in a general sense, not “stellar for Scotty”. I understand now that you are referring to Scotty individually, and not some kind of general standard.

  • fuzzywuzzy

“I think you need to look at the genre. Many country Christmas albums in
history didn’t even sell 250K including Brad, Faith, Reba, etc. So
“stellar” sales in country would be considered 250K.”

So in your opinion, “stellar” would be around 250,000 units sold from a country artist?  OK, thanks.

  • http://twitter.com/doesmonaknow DoesMonaKnow

I’m expecting Scotty’s Christmas album to sell what Archuleta’s did and possibly a little more, since Clear As Day’s sales are somewhat higher than David’s first album, which possibly indicates a slightly larger core fanbase. But maybe Archie’s voice appealed more to general “Christmas music” buyers than Scotty’s will, IDK.

  • fuzzywuzzy

“We can only police or restrain our individual selves.”

I think that MJ would disagree with you. ;)

  • fuzzywuzzy

” Nah, not delusional enough to think he is in Groban, Bocelli or Buble territory with platinum + sales for Christmas CD’s.”

Well, Groban (>5 million), Bocelli (>2.5 million) and Buble (>2.5 million) are far beyond the level that I was referring to, where I would regard “stellar” sales of at least 1 million. We just have different perspectives.

  • hellomusicgirl

I’d think clearing 100k+ for him will start becoming stellar in my book. IIRC, David A’s Xmas cd has sold over 200k to date?

Yup, David A’s Christmas From The Heart sold approximately 211K in the first Christmas season it was out. Overall sales for album as of April 2012 are just over 258K.

  • ptebwwong

I think “stellar” means exceptional so since 250K is rare in country IMO that should be considered “stellar.”

There has been country Christmas albums that have gone platinum, but it’s very rare. Those albums are all by legends such as Garth, George Strait, Vince Gill, & Dolly & Kenny.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

Unless you are in that Groban or Buble League of almost being able to guarantee a platinum seller at Christmas, everyone’s ‘standards’ will be different… other bigger names and more established artists across genres are releasing Christmas CD’s… ‘stellar’ IMO for them in no way resembles ‘stellar’ in Groban/Buble/Bocelli world… based on Scotty’s sales track record to date,  coupled with being in a genre that is super supportive and fits the ‘traditional’ mold that most holiday music buyers want their albums to be recorded in, throw in some good mgmt and marketing, some hi profile gigs and appearances to sell this puppy, along with the AI winner tag, and he should be able to clear 100k easily. It’s how much past 100k he could possibly sell that will make watching interesting. Outside of the Big Christmas 3, 100k+ I’d consider ‘stellar’ for anybody. Those wanting to further debate the semantics of the word stellar can have at it – I’ll be content to see how strong his base and those beyond show up and show out for him, saleswise.

  • Maya100

There actually was one Christmas album that debuted at number one – Susan Boyle’s The Gift.  It went on to sell around 2.5 M, I think.

  • lovetheusa1776

Everytime I see the word “stellar,” can’t help thinking of Marlon Brando in Streetcar at the bottom of the stairs shrieking, “Stelllllllaaaaa.”

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

Yeah, it’s all good.  I’ve learned to lower my expectations about a lot of things related to the music business these last few years, lol… sales has been the biggest one. It’s like there are, what, 5 artists that are selling and everyone else is scratching and hustling to stay on the grind. These Christmas CD’s are beginning to look all kinds of lucrative from that aspect – low/no overhead to produce, usually a built in base ready to buy, people will impulse buy more at Christmas… why hasn’t Idol or 19E put out a christmas cd, with some of their most popular winners/runnersups yet? That would sell, LOL

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

Brandoooooooooooooooooooooo – he didn’t record a Christmas CD did he, lolol…

  • fuzzywuzzy

It’s interesting to see the sales of holiday albums over the years to get a sense of perspective. Country artists are pretty well represented, but as you say, most of them are well-established artists.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Best-selling_Christmas/holiday_albums_in_the_United_States

Kenny G. has done exceptionally well in the sales of his 2 previous albums.

1994, Kenny G, Miracles: The Holiday Album, Arista, 8x Platinum

1999, Kenny G, Faith: A Holiday Album, Arista Records. 3x Platinum

I’m curious to see how well he will do with his new release this year.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

MJ needs a medal, and a lifetime supply of Jack to put up with the day to day flow on this blog, lol.. Dunno how she does it, she’s way tougher than I.

  • http://twitter.com/LexieONeill Lexie O’Neill

For some reason, I had in my mind that the Christmas cd would sell somewhere around his ep numbers, at least.  On one hand, the ep had only one original song (the Christmas cd will have at least 2 according to Scotty) so that might lead to think the Christmas cd would sell even more…  On the other hand, the ep was cheap so that would lead one to think the Christmas cd would sell less.

One of the reasons I believe Susan Boyle’s The Gift sold so much was the heavy marketing by Christian sellers.  Over Black Friday (and yes, I venture out on those mornings), a number of those stores had big deals on that cd.

Scotty’s album cover is that of a clean-cut, wholesome if you will, young man who could very well get that marketing.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

Thanks – adding her to the Holy Trinity of Boffo CD Sales at Christmas – it’s now a quartet – lol – Groban/Bocelli/Buble/Boyle

Let’s pretend Clay Aiken never released a Christmas album. And while we’re ignoring let’s not mention that he debuted with 270,000 the first week and it sold platinum in just 6 weeks.

  • babylockthemdoors

I hope there will be a CMA Country Christmas Special again this year. Scotty performed there last year and it was well-received. Performing this year will be a nice promo for Scotty, Blake and other country artists releasing holiday albums. :)

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

I gave Clay some props a few comments back, lol… I know his 1st Xmas CD was a huge seller, and said that I didn’t expect to see Scotty getting those numbers… I think Scotty is going to do very well in sales, but times have changed, he won’t pull Clay numbers unless the stars align for him majorly, lol…

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

why hasn’t Idol or 19E put out a christmas cd, with some of their most popular winners/runnersups yet?

Idol did, in 2003. It was called American Idol: The Great Holiday Classics and included tracks from Kelly Clarkson, Justin Guarini, Tamyra Gray, Christina Christian, Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, Kimberly Locke, and two cheesy group sings!*

It peaked at #28 on the BB 200, which was unimpressive for an Idol compilation of that era. (Prior to S6, it was the only exception to the rule that Idol compilations always peaked in the BB 200 top 10.)

The show has never had the nerve to try it again, and I think “themed” compilations  were discontinued after the “Soul Classics” compilation for S3.

*I do not own it. I do not buy Christmas music. At the same time, I can pretty easily imagine a McCreery holiday CD with a little something contemporary, a couple of holiday classics, and one truly tear-jerking religious song doing well in the market. (I started to say “topping 100k in sales,” then realized numbers this year keep being worse than I expect, so I ain’t betting on anything for fall.)

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

Bingoooooooooooo – I didn’t know if country put on any big Christmas specials or extravaganzas… if they do, I think he’ll get some invites, and get some good exposure on them, leading to good sales… if he makes a video, or two, that could help him move some units.

  • songsungblue

Now that I consider, Lawrence Welk isn’t the right ‘Scotty’ analogy.  He’s more like Pat Boone.   American cheese.  Velveeta.  The manure yellow kind that comes in a box, and sits forgotten at the back of the fridge for years.

I’m sure he’ll sell Christmas music, and personally I hope they play it constantly at Target this holiday season.  I really need a reason to get out of there more quickly. ;)

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

  • Oksana4626

MJ, I though that we are allowed to express our own opinion on a subject whether it’s positive or negative. Or is it reserved for selected Idols only?
I really think that this album cover is bad.
    Just my opinion.

  • babylockthemdoors

CMA Country Christmas was aired last year at ABC so it was a nationally-televised event. I think it drew around 7-8 million viewers so it was not too shabby for a Christmas show. Scotty performing in there (should there be one this year), will be a nice promo!

  • ptebwwong

I’m not MJ, but I can answer your question. You’re allowed to express your opinion. The problem is that the posts on this thread are offtopic as MJ stated. The thread is supposed to be about Scotty & his album cover which is why the posts that were unrelated were deleted.

This is a rule for the blog. All threads need to be on-topic or MJ can delete your post.

  • Oksana4626

ptebwwong, thanks for explanation, but my post was strictly about Scotty and his album cover, yet it was deleted. Contrary to everyones opinion on this thread I didn’t like the cover, however I stated that this album will sell well anyway.
Now tell me what was so off-topic?

    Reminder

Sorry, I should have peeked into this thread earlier today before the trolling and hijacking got out of hand. But it was a holiday and all, so I was a little lax.

This thread is strictly about Scotty and his album cover. I almost banned EVERYONE involved, but instead I deleted a bunch of posts, including some that may have appeared on topic. Sorry, but when you start going off the rails, your motives are suspect.

Don’t complain in the thread. Don’t mod other posters. Don’t talk about the thread. All of that is also off-topic.

Say what you like about the cover.  It does not matter to me. What I am interested in is the Singer, that is Scotty.  The suave handsome country and sport loving singer whose voice I love to hear and have love since the audition and I am here to support him all the way.  I don’t buy Christmas albums but this album certainly I must have though I am a Muslim.

nvm – can’t respond to comments about my post without breaking board rules.

edit: Then why the hell even mention it?

Since you felt the need to ask in the comments section – not terribly politely, I might add – I’ll respond in the same place, although I’m sure it was intended to be rhetorical.

    I posted something, thought better of it, and went back to edit.  When I did, I saw someone had already responded to what I’d said, so I provided a brief explanation for both the edit and the reason for not commenting on the response.  I thought I was doing the right thing. {shrug}

  • SaSa8

I really love the cover.  Scotty looks handsome and it is classy and will appeal to a lot of folks.  I am excited to see the track listing.  Hopefully more details to come soon.  I think the sales will be very good but I am going to be realistic after seeing on this thread that only the really big names like Buble and Groban have huge sales.  But one thing I know for sure is I will be buying it.

  • http://twitter.com/CanadianLady2 CanadianLady

After hearing him singing several songs last year, I was really hoping he’d do a Christmas album. Cover is fine, although I’d have liked the photo of him smiling. However, as long as it says Scotty McCreery, I’ll buy it.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I watched a video of Scotty singing “Mary Did You Know” and thought that it was beautiful, and not one of the Christmas songs that has been recorded to death.  lol It will be interesting to see the track listing for this CD.

  • mjsbigblog

Your initial comment didn’t even mention the Idol the thread was about! It was just a snarky aside that verged on trolling, and pretty much began the train wreck.

Just pre-ordered the cd.  You get lots of goodies (or potential goodies) with the purchase–he’ll be calling 100 people (I’m too old for that), a chance for a trip to see him on his 2013 tour (which begs the question, what tour:), as well as a thank you video.

I never knew such things existed before getting involved in this Idol thing:))

  • http://twitter.com/doesmonaknow DoesMonaKnow

Hmmmm, a solo tour (that’s what it sounds like)? And if Scotty is touring what does that mean for the timing of his next studio album?

So this is a whole album, not an EP.

  • http://twitter.com/CanadianLady2 CanadianLady

I know they’re already hard at work on his next (non-Christmas) album. I’d expect it early in 2013, if not earlier. It was actually Scotty who pushed for October instead of November for his first album.

  • girlygirltoo

Since he’s releasing the Christmas album I would doubt that his 2nd “real” album will come out in 2012. I’d guess sometime in spring 2013.

I don’t buy Christmas albums (I don’t see the point of buying something I would listen to for maybe 2-3 days out of the whole year, but that’s just me) but I’m sure this will do quite well for Scotty and wish him much luck with it.

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

nvm — DoesMonaKnow‘s press release link contradicts the rumors that I’d been basing my opinions on.

  • Chris

Scotty looks cute and this should do well. The title is a little old fashioned, “Christmas with Perry Como” or Andy Williams comes to mind but maybe its just my age :-)

  • http://twitter.com/doesmonaknow DoesMonaKnow

Here’s a press release about the album: http://www.countrymusicislove.com/2012/09/scotty-mccreery-to-release-christmas-with-scotty-mccreery-on-october-16.html Song titles mentioned:

    Holly Jolly Christmas
Santa Claus Is Back In Town (the Elvis song)
    Mary, Did You Know
    The First Noel
    Christmas In Heaven (original)
    Christmas Is Coming Around (original)
    Winter Wonderland
    Jingle Bells
    Let It Snow
    The Christmas Song
    O Holy Night

  • ptebwwong

I don’t think his 2nd “real” album will be released until winter/spring 2013. I think the Christmas album is to keep Scotty’s name and the buzz there. IMO it wouldn’t make sense to do a Xmas album if the 2nd album is not out pretty soon unless it was pushed back because you would lose all the buzz.

  • http://twitter.com/doesmonaknow DoesMonaKnow

Two years between studio albums is not an unheard of interval so I wouldn’t be surprised if the second album doesn’t come until the fourth quarter of 2013. Spring 2013 is asking fans to buy a Christmas album and a regular one within the space of a few short months and I just don’t see that happening.

  • ptebwwong

Artists can have studio albums every 2 years. But past Idols like Archie & Clay did Xmas albums in between their 1st & 2nd albums & their 2nd albums didn’t turn out as well as hoped even when their Xmas albums sold well. Both had 2 years in between their studio albums.

The problem I see is that radio doesn’t really play any of his hits from CAD. Even if his Xmas album sells well, Scotty will not be played often on the radio until late 2013 (that is the release date you think). That’s a long time to not have radio playing your music especially if you’re trying to get new music out. So IMO as long as there is good material on the 2nd album I would rather have his 2nd album preferably in spring 2013 than late 2013.

  • girlygirltoo

We have had plenty of evidence that Idols can’t afford to go 2 years between studio albums. Even though Scotty appears to have a strong fanbase, so did Adam and David C — and look what happened with their sales for album #2. I would bet Scotty’s label wants album #2 before summer 2013 if at all possible.

  • http://twitter.com/doesmonaknow DoesMonaKnow

Or look at the other country winner, Carrie, whose first three albums came out in two year intervals and the fourth one would have if she hadn’t put her her foot down about having some time off. Adam, Cook and Kris released their albums two and a half years after their first, and in the spring, which is a whole different thing than releasing in the fourth quarter two years later. Scotty does have their problem of not being totally established on radio so it would probably be wise not to wait too long to try again with material for album #2. But until a release date in the spring or summer is actually announced, it’s just not something I’m going to see as a sure bet.

  • SaSa8

Even if his 2nd album isn’t released until spring 2013 or later,  he would release a single before the album.  The single would be released to radio like TTWG was.  So he would be getting radio play before the album.  Do you think radio will play one of his Christmas songs from the album?

  • ptebwwong

He would release a single before the album. But many country artists don’t have an increase in sales until a certain chart position or radio airplay especially if you’ve not established yourself on radio.

IMO sales & radioplay don’t really start increasing until you’ve reached top 40 in country. That means Scotty would need to have the song receive a lot of radio airplay to actually increase his album/single sales for people who weren’t going to buy it, didn’t know it was out, or not fans of Scotty. Scotty fans are going to buy the album anyway.

The label has to pick the right single. I always felt if they released other songs from CAD like YMTLG it would have been a hit & would have shown a different side to people who remember him from Idol. Also, country is very pop/rock now. Traditional songs are very rare, but when done right like by Josh Turner & Dustin Lynch it can be big hits.

  • girlygirltoo

Scotty shouldn’t rely too much on radio play to help his album sales. There’s no guarantee that his next single will even get major radio play. Look at his current single — it didn’t even crack the Top 40 on the country radio chart. And none of his singles have gone Top 10 in the format.

He will be touring, which seems to be a big boost in terms of exposure. And I assume his management and label will give him major promo once the album is more or less ready to go and the first single off it is released. This Xmas album will help as well in terms of keeping his name out there while waiting for his 2nd album to be released.

  • girlygirltoo

well nothing is a sure bet until it is actually released :) . But hasn’t Scotty himself said that they are hoping to get the 2nd album out early next year? I don’t follow him, but it seems to me I’ve seen that mentioned on this blog.

  • ptebwwong

Scotty and the label from all I’ve heard is trying to get his 2nd album out early 2013. That could always change. I guess if they always find better material, need better production, or there is a difference in direction the estimated release date can change.

But it seems like they are aiming for early 2013. For the Xmas album, he worked with Mark Bright like on his 1st album. I’m assuming he’ll work with him again for his 3rd album. So I don’t expect any of the complications I’ve suggested since they’ve worked together in the past. The only possible complication I see is if the label & new management are trying to push Scotty towards more country pop/rock material to be more radio-friendly. Scotty might do a song or two that’s country pop/rock, but I think he would put his foot down if there’s too much songs like that because I don’t think he would want to go in that direction.

WaterTowerTown, for all its faults, did crack Top 40.:)

Scotty has said that they plan on getting the 2nd album out early next year.     They’ve been gathering songs all year, so hope that’s possible.  As far as we know, he has very little planned for Nov.-Dec. so could be a lot of recording time then (or a lot of stuff we don’t know about:).

Seeing the tracklist, I’m so happy Mary Did you know is on there–loved it when he performed it last year!!

Thanks for posting! Looks like the Biebs song didn’t make the cut.

I’m a little surprised this is a full length Christmas album, kind of figured it’d be an EP recorded in between sessions for the sophomore studio album. But, this sounds like a serious album for fans to buy even though it came together relatively quickly. Between Blake, Lady A, and Scotty, it’s going to be a pretty crowded country market for Christmas albums.

I like the album cover. Scotty looks good, he looks classy, and he looks like he’s grown up a little since Clear As Day.

Earlier this year I thought the plan would be for Scotty to release a new lead single in October/November 2012, maybe to launch it at the CMAs since he’ll likely be nominated for New Artist Of The Year, with a sophomore album out in February/March. I figured that because I thought Mike Dungan would want to leverage as much industry visibility and sales momentum as possible for Scotty to launch the new single especially since Scotty’s momentum at country radio has stalled. But, I don’t know how the Christmas album fits in with all that. I still think it could help Scotty to be visible in November/December through the holiday album if they’re releasing a new single then. Any and every reminder to the country world that Scotty still has many fans can only help.

The thing about the 2 year gap between Some Hearts/Carnival Ride and Carnival Ride/Play On for Carrie is that SH had 4 singles, the last of which was a multi week #1 at country while BHC crossed over, and CR had 5 singles. For the 1st 3 album cycles there was a gap of only a few months between the final single off one album and the lead single off the next one. Scotty doesn’t have the luxury of that momentum at country radio. But, it’s possible the Christmas album is supposed to tide fans over and keep Scotty’s name out there while they continue to prep his sophomore album. UMG Nashville’s going through personnel changes and that’s the kind of thing that can delay the album making process. I’m not speaking with any specific inside info here, just thinking out loud about the possibility that the original timeline I speculated may not hold.

I definitely have my ear to the ground to try to get clues about how far along Scotty is in the sophomore album making process but don’t have good leads yet.

I´m a little confused about this. I thought I read (was it windmill´s
post ?) that CAD actually was country pop which would mean Scotty is fine
with it. And I also remember him saying in an interview long time ago that he
loves traditional country but with a contemporary twist.

  • ptebwwong

CAD is more country pop than what I would expect. Scotty likes different types of country. He has stated he likes some of Jason & Eric Church’s music. I meant I can’t see him lean all country pop or rock like Luke Bryan or Brantley Gilbert. I think he will always have a couple traditional songs on his albums. I can’t see him not doing traditional country at all.

Thanks for your always informative responses. Is there a history of country artists releasing Christmas albums and then a studio album less than six months later? Having such a short gap between full albums seems unlikely to me on the surface but maybe it’s a pretty common practice I just don’t know about.

The album cover photo is from the shoot Scotty did for Clear As Day. You can see him in that suit by that door around the :28 second mark of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tY2qj6Talew

I think this is interesting…several sites are setting up articles about Scotty’s cd AND Blake Shelton’s with both names on twitter as if to get hits from both sets of fans and as if they’re setting the two against each other…don’t know if that’s good or bad, but certainly flattering for the newbie…

I feel like labels these days in general aren’t as shy about flooding the market, at least in the case of acts with active teen fanbases like Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber. I don’t know if Scotty’s got a fanbase like that or if Mercury Nashville thinks he does. But FWIW, Taylor released a Christmas collection EP in October 2007, the Beautiful Eyes EP in July 2008, and her sophomore album Fearless in November 2008.

Going back 9 years Kenny Chesney released his Christmas album (All I Want For Christmas Is A Real Good Tan) in October 2003 before releasing a full studio album When The Sun Goes Down in February 2004.

This doesn’t specifically answer your question but, it’s also not unusual for country acts to have a quick turnaround between albums. For example this is the 5th consecutive year Toby Keith’ll be releasing a full length new album in October/November, and if you go back to the year 2001, the only year Toby hasn’t released a full length studio album was 2004.

Scotty’s Christmas album being an album rather than an EP definitely makes me less confident about my originally speculated timeline. It’s possible this is a way to make the label some money and keep his name out there while they try to make the right sophomore album.

  • http://twitter.com/doesmonaknow DoesMonaKnow

I looked it up and the first single from Kenny Chesney’s When The Sun Goes Down was released 10/23/03, ahead of the album dropping in Feb. 2004.  I really don’t see any new music coming this year from Scotty aside from the Christmas album. There are two original songs on it…how do Christmas songs end up getting airplay at country? Do PDs just decide what to play or with new music is there a “push” just like with regular singles?

  • mchcat

I just ordered two CDs – I am just so excited for this.

  • http://twitter.com/LexieONeill Lexie O’Neill

Scotty’s “sold out” the pre-order:))))  Fans aren’t too happy because those who bought today and tomorrow were promised autographed booklets, but I love seeing “out of stock.”

Wait–I spoke too soon–it’s just like the pre-order for CAD, they had the message and then they re-stocked the pre-order…Scotty’s going to be signing quite a bit:))

    Wait–sold out again…

Blake Shelton is doing one that I know of and Im super excited Scotty is doing a Christmas album who is to say how long you have to wait to do one. I think if your fans love you they will buy it and this will be a hit I’m sure.

  • nyc57

I don’t listen to country music but I did enjoy the country Christmas show.i usually do buy a Christmas cd most years.Last year i bought a Gene Autry one.I can’t,however ,think of a Christmas song written in the last 30 years or so that i didn’t hate except for the grandma being run over by a reindeer  song and the lyrics of the Christmas in Heaven song makes me want to gag.

  • http://www.facebook.com/sharilbus Sharil Brown

I ordered my cd early this morning and I am so very excited to get it in my hands. After listening to Christmas in Heaven I just know that will bring many tears and it is a beautiful song.

The cover, well I think it is very much Scotty. It is fairly simple but enough Christmas flair to make it beautiful in my opion.

I know I will be listening to Christmas music from October thru December.  Well I may be listening well into 2013.

I ordered one just about 45 minutes ago for my daughter who loves Scotty and thinks his so cute. It will be a late birthday and earlier Christmas gift for her. So excited because I’ll of course will be listening to it as well, and so will my two other kids.

  • SaSa8

I had not heard or read that Lady A is producing a Christmas album this year.  When is it to be released? They did one in 2010 but I think it was only an EP with 7 songs.

  • http://www.facebook.com/maria.romeo.900 Maria Romeo

im super excited for this.  Christmas music is very classical and scotty with his deep voice can sing those classic songs very well with his rich tone.  i cant wait to have this on repeat this christmas!
