More Idol performances have been added to the American Music Award lineup!

Carrie Underwood, Daughtry and Kelly Clarkson have been added to a lineup that already includes current American Idol runner-up, Adam Lambert.

Adam is set to perform his yet-to-be determined lead single from his upcoming album,   For Your Enertainment,   due out 11/23.

American Idol continually produces great talent, and we are looking forward to hosting Kelly, Carrie, Daughtry and Adam. It’s a great fit for the AMAs,” said producer Larry Klein.

Other performers on the show will include Rihanna, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez and the Black Eyed Peas.

The AMA’s will air on ABC on November 22 at 8/7c pm.

I love seeing Adam’s name mentioned alongside my other Idol faves, Kelly and Carrie! Can’t wait for their performances!! :D

  • http://www.twilightslo.com Mateja

I read on PerezHilton’s blog that Rihanna will also perform at AMAs. Her album also drops on 11/23.

  • HannaB4

Wow! They’ll b worth watching this year! Makes me happy 2!!

  • amiroamor

Is Taylor Swift performing? She should since she’s nominated for like 100 categories lol

  • KritterNotMe

Great seeing Adam along side the SuperStar Idols Kelly Carrie and Daughtry.

Can’t wait for the AMA’s this year.

  • melirose89

awesome!!! cannot wait to see the show this year!! i dont think so many idols have performed like this on a single show!

  • suebrody

AWESOME!!! Kelly, Carrie, and Daughtry are my favorites after Adam EXCEPT that Cook is missing from the list. If they had released Lie…oh, well…

  • LambertLover

So cool! Let’s throw in Cook, Archuleta, and J-Hud too!! Can’t wait!!! This is one to tape for sure!!

  • snood199

Kelly and Adam at the same event! Sweet!

  • KritterNotMe

Also MJ shouldn’t the lead in be Kelly, Carrie and Daughtry join Adam Lambert as performers at the AMA’s as Adam was announced first and that is how the news story broke?

  • abbysee

Kelly and Adam at the same event! Sweet!

Yeah, how about that. I am actually looking forward to the show this year. Those two are gonna blow the roof of the sucker.

  • 1wildegirl

For me, Kelly and Carrie! Squeeee! Now, will they actually be seen together? THAT is the question! ;)

  • sma11ie

Is Taylor Swift performing? She should since she’s nominated for like 100 categories lol

Don’t really care about Taylor, but I wonder if KOL will perform, they were nominated too!

My favorite performance last year was probably the duet with Pink and Sarah McLachlan. I love those unexpected pairings at award shows. Kelly/Carrie will probably do songs from their albums, but I’d love if they did something different. I know Kelly’s a big fan of KOL and does a great Use Somebody/I Would Be Good mashup in concert. My dream is a Kelly/DC duet one of these days, but a Kelly/Caleb collab would be so tight. Those boys have tended to strike me as a bit “too-cool-for-school” though, but who knows? One can dream :)

  • windmills

For me, Kelly and Carrie! Squeeee! Now, will they actually be seen together? THAT is the question!

Girl (1wildegirl ;) ): I am with you!! Those 2 ladies are my faves though I’m betting Adam and Kris’ll be up there with them depending on how their albums sound!

I’m loving this because I bet the Idols are going to be so supportive of each other and it’ll be so great seeing it. Not to mention I’m sure they’ll all give awesome performances.

No. The news item is not about Adam Lambert

  • weareallinnocent

    Cool.

My favorite performance last year was probably the duet with Pink and Sarah McLachlan.

I think I remember loving that, too! :-) Also a solo by P!nk? Beautiful stuff.

Count me among those who would love to see Cook singing “Lie” at the AMAs, but ahhhh, not meant to be…

  • yeahyeahsure

Wow this is the first time that the 3 most successful Idols are all in one awards show. Chris and Carrie have appeared at a lot of shows at the same time but never Kelly so this makes me happy. YAY! Idols represent!

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I don’t want this thread filled with posts about the headline. I fixed it.

  • mgk

And then they’re going to be like, “Who the eff was that?! He’s amazing!!!”. ;)

ETA: Not gonna lie, I worry a little about how well Adam’s album will do, but I have total confidence in his live performances. I am so ready to see one again.

I’m also looking forward to Carrie and Kelly. I wonder if Kelly is still going to be promoting Already Gone, or if there is a new single lined up? I hope Carrie sings something fun, like Cowboy Casanova.

Also looking forward to Alicia Keys. I love her.

  • Mary102

I’m actually going to be watching these shows that I never would before! Wow! This sounds like a great line up! Cannot wait :-)

TOP SELLING AMERICAN IDOLS OF ALL TIME TO PERFORM AT ’2009 AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS,’ NOVEMBER 22 ON ABC

VERY exciting – this is gonna be the show to watch – I bet the ratings will be great – one to set the DVR for – for sure.

  • Winks8

    Just who/what/why are the AMAs?

    (From the Press Release.)

In 1973 Dick Clark created the American Music Awards to pay tribute to popular musicians from various genres of music and to put audiences in touch with the latest phenomena in American music.
Since its founding, the AMAs have honored and showcased the talents of some of the biggest names in the music industry. For the third year, AMA winners are determined by online voting at amavote.com. For press credential requests, please go to http://ama.dickclark.com (deadline to apply is November 1st).

  • cmc25

Wow! Will all these AI alumni sing their single to promote their albums given the time constraint?

If their respective fans will be watching, that will mean more viewers resulting to better deals with current sponsors if not adding more to support the show.

Looks like Adam will be in the company of big guns. Hope his music will be good and exciting enough to attract interest from viewers outside his fan base. Otherwise he could be overshadowed by these established singers. Maybe he should seriously consider wearing a high tech battery-operated but safe fiery flame on top of his head. JMHO.

I can already expect more hits to this blog- talking about the songs and the singers. A lot of comparison, pros and cons. MJ will be busy reviewing comments.

  • saga

I am kind of excited about the Rihanna performance. I love her new single, though I am apparently one of the few. Alicia Keys should be great too.

  • Lux

I wish they take a picture together! that would be so cool.

I remember when Chris Brown performed a year or so ago (before his legal troubles) and no one knew who he was. After his performance, EVERYBODY was talking about him the next day and he rocketed to stardom. He had a high spriited performance with a good voice and peeps recognized it. The same will happen with Adam! I am excited!

  • hwc

I also don’t want this thread to turn into a fan war. Please? Four talented Idols will be performing on the AMAs. Lucky us. The end.

So, by “the end”, I take it you don’t think any more Idols will be added to the lineup? How about for the pre-show?

  • star

I hope Kelly performs something other than “Already Gone” too.

  • snood199

That’s actually pretty good cross-promo for the Idols, too. Daughtry’s got the faux-rock fans, Kelly’s got pop fans, and Carrie’s got the country section, so they (and Adam) should be introduced to somewhat new audiences (I say somewhat because the three mentioned in this thread already have HUGE followings).

  • Janus

Has the host for the show been announced yet?

  • dhunken

Four talented Idols will be performing on the AMAs. Lucky us. The end.

couldn’t have said it better myself!…..Why is this concept so hard to understand….I feel this reinforces my believe that no matter what one thinks of AI contestants….. the show does introduce us to the upper echelon of Live performers in the music industry today…..

  • dhunken

I am even more excited now! I was overjoyed when I first heard that Adam was performing….Now Kelly, Carrie, and Daughtry……OMG……Kelly, Carrie and Adam are my absolute Favorites (with Kimberley Locke, Carly Smithson and Kris Allen)….Daughtry is a very very close. (Lets just say I would maime for him but would kill for the other 3) ;-)

  • LeeTravers

This is terrific – performers who can actually SING – not the auto-tuned dreck on the Top 40.

  • LeeTravers

Maybe those who survive the AI meat grinder will start to get their due.

  • maria4hitz

I’m looking forward to see Kelly and Adam. I hope she performs Already gone, if it continues to do as good as it’s doing now on radio, the AMA’s will be right at the time Already gone is peaking on radio.
I’m so happy these 4 talented artists are doing so good, it’d be cool to see them perform together.

  • gangreen29

I remember when Chris Brown performed a year or so ago (before his legal troubles) and no one knew who he was.

What are you talking about?!? Chris Brown’s first ever single in 2005 hit #1 on billboard, I think a lot of people knew who he was before the AMA’s

Anyways, this is really exciting. It is incredible to me how much of an impact American Idol has actually had on the musical world, and how many stars it has produced.

  • clwadamlover

NGL … uh,,, It’s so great that Kelly, Carrie, and Daughtery are going to be joining Adam at the AMS….Can’t wait to see Our Rock God!

“”What are you talking about?!? Chris Brown’s first ever single in 2005 hit #1 on billboard, I think a lot of people knew who he was before the AMA’s”"”

I think that the AMA’s introduced Chris to an audience that did not know him, like me, because back then I did not listen to his kind of music. When he danced, jumping from table to table and sang on that show, from then on I knew who he was, he was great that night.

  • http://www.dallascowboys.com GeminiDolly

I think I know what you mean it is similar to Rickey Martin’s performance at the Grammy’s. Everyone knew who he was on some level but after that performance people looked at him very differently and he became the IT guy…I think Adam will be the IT guy in very much the same fashion as Rickey M and Chris B. (except I don’t think we will be hearing stories of him smacking Drake around) ;-)

  • adamlover

i think most people know who adam is at this point.

  • Kipper

I may watch for Carrie & Kelly ~ maybe not ~ will have to think about that one. We’ll see who ELSE is added. If David Archuleta performs, I will DEFINITELY watch.

Wow… If I were asked who are the most successful 3 Idol graduates, I would have picked Carrie, Kelly, and Chris, too. I am so excited to see Adam group together with these three. It is a bit odd that Adam got booked first , and the other three were added later. No idea what that means. Any industry insider to enlighten us?

  • Miss Chaos

You know what it means sdmama (wink)!!!!

  • yeahyeahsure

It is a bit odd that Adam got booked first , and the other three were added later. No idea what that means.

The order of announcement doesn’t mean the order of the booking or what not. It doesn’t mean anything. They just space out the announcements to keep the buzz about the awards show alive. There will be much bigger artists than any of these Idols who will probably be announced later (like Beyonce or even Britney).

  • maria4hitz

Kelly cancelled a tour date (nov 22) some time ago due to “scheduling conflicts” and now we know it was because of the AMA’s, I’m pretty sure they were all booked a long time ago. The fact that Adam was announced first doesn’t mean anything.

  • Esqt

So this is gonna be like: “Presenting to you the best artists the AI show ever produced!!!!” I can’t wait to read the thread watch the show!

Yes and Carrie’s promo schedule leaked on Sept 10th and included the AMAs so she was already booked before that.

Like yeahyeahsure says they space out the announcements for buzz and ITA there are bigger names that’ll be announced later.

  • Tess

Personally, I wish that American Idol was dropped from these promos. Kelly, Carrie, and Daughtry are legitimate performers totally outside of the bubble and should be given credit for that. They haven’t gotten this far because a few Idol fanatics make up their fan base. They contend day in and day out with the biggies of the industry. They may not have the hype of some of the OTT stars but they are doing extremly well and have put the other idols to shame.

They may not be my personal favs but I will extend them the courtesy of referring to them as award winning Artists with million selling hit albums.

Kelly, Carrie and Daughtry will be always be associated with American Idol. They wouldn ‘t be where they are at, without that cheesy show. No one is taking anything away from them as artist and singers, because all of them are very talented. AMA’s invited Adam because he is the hottest thing coming out of American Idol and he will put on an OTT performance. Practically everyone there is going to be a bigger star than Adam, but not too many will be as talented. I think it’s great all of them are going to be there, I just wish David Cook could perform.

I remembered such discussion here. Some people posting in MJ’s blog are really music industry savvy.

  • Sherena

Whoa. So that’s the top echelon of Idol alumni, plus Adam. Says something about what they hope for him, and I’m crossing my fingers for him to have success like any one of those three.

  • Tess

    bridgette12

See, I don’t quite understand why it is so important to brand these kids like that…I mean Justin T, Britney S, Christina Aguilera have been allowed to drop the Mickey Mouse Club Banner from their intros. We don’t title Star Search winners with that title. I just find it a little off-putting. Just like we should put past seasons of AI behind us when the new one starts, past Idols shouldn’t be introduced as such.

C’mn, Carrie has won numerous Country Music Awards, Kelly has had numerous successful albums, and Daughtry came out of the gate selling 4 1/2 Million albums. They are musical entertainers…not Idols. If I was their publicist I would be pissed. Especially considering how Idol fans drop like flies and are always moving on to the new kid on the block.

  • Chipmunk

    Totally agree with you Tess

And yep, fucking A, bring it! Kelly,Rihanna and Adam? Noice!I watch it every year, this will be tres special

    Is Lady Gaga performing?

  • Sherena

Kelly,Rihanna and Adam? Noice!I watch it every year, this will be tres special

Yes, Rihanna!! I’m excited about her. I really like Rihanna’s new single. Her musical evolution has been REALLY well orchestrated and smooth and almost not noticeable and yet if you look at it as a big picture– it’s a DRASTIC change from Pon de Replay to Disturbia… if the rest of her upcoming album shapes up to be as good as Russian Roulette, I will be buying my second Rihanna album this fall.

  • fearbear

Wow, that’s lot of American Idols. Go Kelly and Adam! =)

  • Valentin432

I don’t understand the criticism about the AI label, these artists all came out of the show and they owe a lot of their success (or will be success) to that platform.
It’s even more clear for Adam who spent years of his life in LA trying to make it without getting a break.

And it’s not like any of them are denying it, Carrie and Daughtry have always been positive about the show and return whenever they need to promote a single, Kelly after having some contract issue was back in the show this year too and Adam has declared how delighted he was with his album.

Bottom line, unless any of them become bigger than the show, which I don’t even know if it’s possible, they will always be labelled american idols.

  • wiccagirl2009

Wow! Haven’t watched AMA for the past 4 years. Now i have a good reason to watch. AI stars + Adam. Woot ! Woot! Definitely good exposure for Adam! Can’t wait.

  • oceana

They haven’t gotten this far because a few Idol fanatics make up their fan base. They contend day in and day out with the biggies of the industry.

It’s true they have succeeded in the wider arena, but they got their start with Idol, not just “a few Idol fanatics” but tens of millions of people watched them on that show, that is nothing to sneeze at. It’s a huge jumping-off platform and the power of that can’t be belittled as “a few fanatics.”

They may not have the hype of some of the OTT stars but they are doing extremly well and have put the other idols to shame.

They are doing extremely well, but it doesn’t put other idols to shame. There’s nothing shameful to have made it to the top 10 on Idol, for anyone. And most of them are making a living singing, performing, or hosting tv shows. They can’t all be superstars, and that’s okay.

And when 4 Idols appear together on one show, they are going to be referred to as Idols. Not to do so would probably look like they were trying to hide the obvious.

  • TwigLA

I have a tendency to agree with Tess on the constant references to American Idol for these people. While they came to the public’s attention on that show, it is the work they’ve done beyond it that has earned them their spots today.

Yes it will always be a part of who they are, but it’s not ALL they are. A good chunk of people consider it a cheesy talent/karaoke contest – reality show. Check the banner of this blog as a perfect example.

It is very nice that many AI alum are doing well post-Idol. That helps to bring credibility to the show, which is EXTREMELY hard to do. As long as they continue to showcase the terrible auditions of clueless people and put people on the show who obviously shouldn’t be there, American Idol and its stars will have an uphill climb.

With that said, it’s nice that Carrie, Kelly, Daughtry, and Lambert will be on the AMA show. I am a bit sad that Kris Allen and David Cook weren’t invited. Of course, it could be scheduling conflicts as well. (No, I don’t believe that.)

  • Izzie2

Maybe I missed a previous comment, but it seems to me that the reason that Kelly, Daughtry, Carrie and Adam are on the show this year is because they have new albums to promote. The first three have all been highly successful so of course the AMA’s would be interested in having them participate. Correct me if I am wrong, but don’t think any of them performed on the show last year. David Cook performed on the red carpet and was a presenter last year, as he was the one promoting a new album. I say hooray to their labels for being able to get them on the show. I feel bad for Kris Allen…hopefully he will have some other high profile publicity.

  • http://flamingnose.blogspot.com Scott

Bridgette12, I agree. Talk to any HAC program director and they will tell you that AI is one of the main “farm clubs” for the format. It is dominated by Kelly, Daughtry, Cook, and Jordin, with plenty of Carrie & Elliott thrown in. I’m confident Adam & Kris will do well there too. Archie also has a presence there. Kelly, Daughtry & Jordin do really well on CHR. Idol is a legitimate spawning ground for recording artists, despite the negativity often associated with the franchise. I too wish David Cook was performing, and perhaps they’ll add him. I was at the taping of the Underwood holiday special and he just brought the house down. Which brings me to one of the many things I admire about Cook: he has made the decision NOT to distance himself from Idol & Fremantle in the hopes of gaining rock cred. He embraces it and his relationship with the hand that fed him.

I guess I understand why Cook isn’t on the AMA roster, since he hasn’t won an AMA in the past. But Jordin won last year and I think it stinks she’s not included. She’s had quite a few CHR hits and her debut album did go platinum. She’s got a hot single out right now.
