  • girlygirl

FYI – no video on Rickey TV…just audio

  • Constalicious

I can’t follow Twitter…*kicks puter*, so could someone be kind enough to transcribe what is going on? Purtty please? Adam-centric is only request! THANKS peeps!

  • Lu

MJ _ Girlfriend… it’s 7/5/09! At least I hopt it is – I’m supposed to leave for vacation this week!

  • Sinochick

    it’s starting!!! Woohoo!

    I’m watching on Rickey’s cellcast…he’s hysterical ;)

  • girlygirl

poor Rickey is freaking because the cell caster isn’t calling in even though the show has started

  • girlygirl

    well, I hear screaming…

  • GeminiDolly

Michael Gavin Degraw song seemed like eternity.

  • girlygirl

I think Sarver’s doing the Ne-Yo song now

  • twinkle

well i hope the glittery alien works some magic and manages to sound clear on the cellcert cuz the audio is pretty bad. not that i expected much.

  • Ellie2

From Twitter about Sarver: Starting! In love with a girl from sarcee. Does he have a cross on his jacket?!?

Just got gospelized between songs… Not religious just in style

Closer by neyo now sounds ok his jacket has sparkles.. Adamized??

All of the above from @allenarose. (Is it okay to post this stuff here for people who don’t do twitter?).

  • girlygirl

The audio stinks…but Sarver didn’t sound too bad from what I could hear. It’s gonna be hard to give any real reactions listening to this…hopefully You Tube videos will pop up by late tonight/tomorrow

  • Sinochick

So Sarver only sang two songs?

I’m in Love with a Girl – Gavin De Graw
    Closer – Ne Yo

    Now it’s Megan!!!

  • ravengirl

Rickey’s cellcast has pretty bad sound, but I could tell it was Sarver singing Nee-Yo. Whoever is cellcasting does a lot of “whooos” so that is killing my eardrums. not sure I can sit through all of this like this. Maybe someone else has something better?
Can’t even tell what is going on right now.

  • Heart

Listening to Rickey’s cellcert. This is fun! Sarver’s Neyo song came in pretty clear!

Someone said that the screams were really loud for Adam during the prepackage! Imagine when he comes out on stage!!!!11!!!

Megan’s on! She sounds good! Wonder if her pink mini is going to ride up too high like in rehearsal!

  • LadyBeBop

I’m on Rickey’s site, and this is the first time I’ve ever attempted to listen to a cellcast. Is the audio usually this crummy on a cellcast?

Edit to add…I just read the posts from a minute before I posted…I guess this is pretty normal. I’ll attempt to listen to Scott (he was my favorite), and wait for the YouTube videos tomorrow. Gotta get up in about 6 1/2 hours.

  • Mary102

Ah – this live casting sucks for us on the east coast – I guess the concert starts at 7pm on the west coast, which makes it 10pm here. Oh, well.

  • girlygirl

    Heart:

You heard that? I can barely hear Megan at all

  • Jx223

It seems like Megan only sung like a minute and a half of her first song.

  • Ellie2

That audio sucks, big time. It hurts to listen to it.

  • Ellie2

@allenarose says the sound is great live: “For whoever asked, the sound is great, but I am only ten rows back, so…”

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Rickey’s cellcast has pretty bad sound, but I could tell it was Sarver singing Nee-Yo. Whoever is cellcasting does a lot of ‘whooos’ so that is killing my eardrums. not sure I can sit through all of this like this. Maybe someone else has something better?

Cellcerts suck. It won’t get much better than what you got right now. Cellphones aren’t designed for broadcasting music. I’d rather wait for the video.

  • Heart

    http://twitter.com/idoltourbenches#/idoltourbenches

    She is sending out twitpics!

Girlygirl – maybe the sound comes out betterwith stereo speakers? Dunno, it’s better than nothing!

Scott is on – I think I’m taking a break until Adam’s set! Woo Hoo!

  • girlygirl

I can hear Megan better on her 2nd song than I did on her 1st one…Richard Rushfield (LA Times) tweeted that she sounded great

  • Constalicious

(Is it okay to post this stuff here for people who don’t do twitter?).

MJ–YES PLEASE! Same with Ricky’s cellcert! Help us poor pre-21st century ocd fans! OX

  • Jx223

This concert seems to be moving fast.

  • LisaE

    Great Megan picture:

    http://twitpic.com/9gmfd

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

Reading some of the tweets. I can’t do cell certs, plus it’s almost my bedtime in an hour or so. I’ll get the goodies tomorrow.

Glad that Megan is doing well. I have high hopes for her being between Sarver and Scott!

  • dsp

ok i just tried to listen at rickey.org is there anyway to turn visual off– lol

  • Ellie2

    Here are some more tweets:

@allenarose: “Scott came up at his piano from below the stage. Bend Or Break sounds really good!”

@allenarose: “Omg lol Scott made a bunch of blind jokes”

  • Ellie2

More from @allenarose: “He has a black jacket with swirly sparkles on. David A’s thousand miles is better.”

  • girlygirl

In between his songs, Scott joked with the audience about Ryan trying to high 5 him.

    Richard Rushfield tweets:

#It’s @scottmacintyre time. Every one of them sounds like they are having a million times more fun then they ever did on the show#half a minute ago from TwitterFon

#It’s on! Megan joy sounds fantastic. #idoltour09#8 minutes ago from TwitterFon

  • mandabutter

Scott is in the middle of his 2nd song, Lil will be next… cell-cast at Rickey is bearable, the chatters are really funny.

He just passed 2500 viewers!!!! Go RICKEY!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ellie2

@allenarose: “That said, everyone so far sounds much better live.”

  • http://myspace.com/morganmadelynne marymagdalene

I am working on a totally different screen while listening to Rickey.org… :-)

  • mandabutter

Lil doing Mary J. Blige, “Be W/O U”

  • will

LOL – that “cellcast” is AWFUL! Is it even legal anyway? It’s kinda fun looking at Rickey grimacing, but I think I’ll pass.

  • Ellie2

@allenarose: “Lil Be Without You now. No group opener, cool video intros for everyone”

  • girlygirl

Lil sounds pretty good. Wish I could see her dancing

  • unique28v

I thought they were supposed to sing the full version of the songs?? I’m listening to Richey’s cellcast and Lil did not sing the full version of Without You. She missed a full verse.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

(Is it okay to post this stuff here for people who don’t do twitter?).

Yes, anybody who wants to “live blog” the cellerts can do that if you’d like…

  • mandabutter

“I just finished my set and that was one of the most amazing feelings in the world. I hope everyone enjoyed it.”
2 minutes ago from TwitterFon — MICHAEL SARVER.

First Idol twitter after their set in Portland.

Lil is now doing “No One” by Alicia Keys

  • Squirrely

Cellcerts SUCK! Lil sounds better then the first ones, I can at least make out what she’s singing. She’s singing ‘No One’ now

  • In the Stars

I am on Rickey’s blog but nothing is playing for me. There is just his picture in the video box and nothing is moving and no audio.. PLEASE help me!!! What am I doing wrong???

  • shadow-rider

    Rickey is entertaining. LOL

  • Sinochick

Watching Rickey dance to Single Ladies is making me LOL!!!!

  • LisaE

Here’s Lil’s full setlist: A Mary J. Blige medley (Be Without You/Just Fine), Alicia Keys’ No One and Beyonc’s Single Ladies. (Mansfield Twitter)

  • dsp

its really painful watching rickey do the single ladies dance!!!!!!! lmao I think Mj should do this

  • unique28v

Ahhh ok. According to USA Today’s Brian Mansfield, Lil did a Mary J Blige melody of Just Fine and Without You.

  • megkat

Lil kinda did a Mary J Blige medley with ‘Be Without You” and “Just Fine” so it was I guess three songs, MJB medley, No One, and SIngle Ladies

  • twinkle

it seems like the audio is better now than at the beginning. i could hear lil a lot clearer than michael and megan.

  • girlygirl

    Anoop is up!

  • Mom in the Suburbs

Lil sounded good with that Alicia Keys song. Her voice is very rich-sounding. I can’t take the cellcert any more, but I heard some of Scott, too; he has a tenor-ish voice, high and sweet. Hope some good vids show up tomorrow!

  • Ellie2

@allenarose: “Anoop came up on a stool from under the stage”

  • mandabutter

go back to the original .org site and click Watch Now, its red, under the first post. There may be a 20sec ad, it will refresh.

  • vanjess38

Rickey is just making my day over here. Hahaha.

  • Jx223

At least I can hear Anoop a little better than I could hear some of the others.

  • ravengirl

Was reading a tweet that said that Lil was wearing a black bodysuit for the Single Ladies song. Oh Lord, that is bravery considering the junk in the trunk she has. Well, more power to her.

  • girlygirl

Richard Rushfield has loved everyone so far. Brian Mansfield (USA Today) isn’t commenting at all…just saying what songs the Idols are doing!

  • Ellie2

    Tweets about Anoop:

@allenarose: “Always On My Mind. His video was his face in clouds, lol. He sounds incredible!!!!!”

@idoltourbenches: “If I were a real person with real emotions I’d be in fucking tears”

  • dsp

i saw a pic of lil in a grayish black dress—did she take it off???

  • In the Stars

mandabutter thank you…I did that before will try again.

  • Ellie2

i saw a pic of lil in a grayish black dress’”did she take it off???

Yeah, someone tweeted that she took the dress/coat off for Single Ladies and had a black bodysuit on underneath it.

  • ravengirl

    Allenarose tweeted this:

Karaoke words on the screen for single ladies. She stripped off her coat to a black bodysuit

  • girlygirl

The sound cut in and out there, but Anoop sounds really good…he’s doing My Perogative now

  • wiccagirl2009

My Rickey link not working. :-) Have to content myself with twitter updates.

  • jmaster

I hope this person’s cell phone battery doesn’t die before I hear Kradison.

  • girlygirl

    allenarose tweets:

#Between songs he put on big black framed glasses… did I miss something?#3 minutes ago from TwitterFon

  • LisaE

Wow, extensive blogging on-site. Didn’t realize!

    http://blogs.usatoday.com/idolchatter/

  • shadow-rider

The sound is better. Anoop is coming across pretty clear. Sounding good Anoop.

Ohhhh I’m hearing lots of screaming!!!

  • girlygirl

Picture of Anoop Dogg doing his thing on stage

    http://twitpic.com/9gpa4

  • Ellie2

@allenarose: “Omg body rolls during My Perogative. And it did not stop there! Literally lol at the dancing”

  • ravengirl

People seem to be liking Anoop a lot. Seems like he is getting some great audience response. Me? Meh.
Big cheers just went up and some odd techno music. Matt?

  • shadow-rider

allenarose: Omg body rolls during My Perogative. And it did not stop there! Literally lol at the dancing

Oh I would so love a visual. LOL

  • girlygirl

Matt is on now. The crowd sounds really into this. And there’s more than 3000 people over on the rickey TV site!

  • Meg23

Anoop sounded great. Can’t wait to see him.
    Matt sounds good so far.

  • Ellie2

allenarose: “Everyone on their feet for the first time all show for matt”

  • Ellie2

allenarose: “Holy frickin crap hard to handle was effing amazing!!!! Best song so far! Georgia now.”

  • Jx223

I have a feeling that Matt’s performances are going to look and sound really good when video of the tour is put up.

  • Ellie2

allenarose: “You found me is my least favorite of his by far.”

I was sort of surprised he decided to do that one, since it definitely wasn’t one of his strongest showings on AI.

  • maracaibo

    Me too.

Matt’s songs sound so good! Can’t wait to see him!
I am so excited everyone stood up for him!

  • girlygirl

Sounds like Matt pretty much totally killed his set. He got the best response, anyway. Good for him!

  • spring2009

bottom 5 singing a group number. I wish they would ban duets and group numbers….never sound good together imho.

  • cookcricket

Brian Mansfield (USA Today) isn’t commenting at all’ ¦just saying what songs the Idols are doing!

girlygirl, he’s doing a live blog. See under blogs above, USA Today. Last I read, he was up to Anoop.

  • girlygirl

The USA Today blogger says Matt started great, but lost his momentum on his last two songs:

Quote from USA Today blog: Matt may know that soulful stuff like Hard to Handle works well for him, but he just can’t give up the moody piano-rock numbers. His third choice is The Fray’s You Found Me, and he’s just about lost all of the momentum he had when he took the stage. Choices like this were his fatal flaw on the show, and they’re his downfall now, too. He leaves the stage to polite applause — nothing approaching the level of what greeted him.

  • ross

Sounds to me like they’re all underwater. I can’t listen to it.

  • ravengirl

USA Today blogger indicates that after Hard to Handle, matt’s first song, it was all downhill from there and that he left the stage to polite applause. Oops.

Matt may know that soulful stuff like Hard to Handle works well for him, but he just can’t give up the moody piano-rock numbers. • tierbee

Having listened to David Cook cellcasts that roughly translated as “Glub… glub… glub…” this one sounds pretty good!

  • Qcloud9

Rickey’s dancing to Lil’s Single Ladies song was pretty funny!

I can’t wait for the You Tube videos of Anoop!! His voice came across better on the cell cast than anyone else so far, but I can’t wait to hear him when the videos show up later, hopefully some with better quality audio.

  • JustWatching

black bodysuit for the Single Ladies song. Oh Lord, that is bravery considering the junk in the trunk she has. Well, more power to her.

Maybe Queen L let her borrow her black jumpsuit.

  • iluvai

I think Lil looks beautiful. She’s petite with curves. You go girl!!!

  • GeminiDolly

Allison is next after the break. woot woot.

  • girlygirl

Is there an intermission now? Or do they go right into Allison’s set?

  • iluvai

    GeminiDolly
    Jul 5th, 2009 at 11:22 pm

Allison is next after the break. woot woot.

This sure seems to be going fast via computer.

  • Lu

The USA Today blogger says Matt started great, but lost his momentum on his last two songs:

I’m sorry to hear this. Matt was my pick and I was hoping he would kill it on tour. I didn’t feel great about it when I saw he was doing that Fray song though… just not his wheelhouse.

  • Ellie2

Rickey is cracking my shit up. He’s squeeing worse than any fan girl!

  • GeminiDolly

How long are these intermissions half an hour? 15 minutes?? Im ready for Allison already!!!!!

  • dsp

ellie2== I am cracking up watching Rickey also—–but i hope when it comes to kradison he puts their pics up instead i dont want to watch him dancing to whole lotta love

  • will

I hope TPTB allow Matt to adjust his set so that it doesn’t peter out at the end like that — maybe he should reverse the order at least.

  • iluvai

So anyway… I’ll try the cellcast one more time because my faves are coming on soon.

  • In the Stars

im getting the audio now but I really hear anything but static. Can’t even tell what they are singing or who is singing. I wish I could hear like some of you guys can. My computer is crappy so that may have something to do with it. Have a new computer on the way from Dell. Wish it would hurry and get here!!

  • ravengirl

    Intermission is 20 minutes

  • iluvai

but i hope when it comes to kradison he puts their pics up instead i dont want to watch him dancing to whole lotta love

    Yes that!

  • smartcookie

Intermish is usually 20 minutes at least. Have to have time for all of the women in the audience to use the restroom, for the dancing Pop Tarts and Guitar Hero schmaltz, for the rush for T-shirts and refreshments, and all the other assorted halftime activities.

  • twinkle

hehe. the cell caster said she’s gonna put the phone in her bra because she doesnt want to hold it for the final 4… BOOB TUBE!

  • GeminiDolly

rickey is too cute. Im enjoying this cellcast bad sound and all.

  • Squirrely

I can’t wait for full length pictures of Adam’s JACKET!

So far everyone has been getting great reviews – Lil’s was the most positive so far I think.

  • spring2009

OMG – I have to get up for work in 5 hours and Adam is still probably an hour away – arghh.

  • Squirrely

    http://twitpic.com/9gt62

Dueling piano pictures, not sure why but I was picturing baby grands instead of upright piano’s

  • maracaibo

Rickey’s friend said Matt was the best of the first half, and then Anoop.
So who knows? I am really happy Matt was well received.

  • girlygirl

Jason Castro’s mom is on the chat on rickey tv???

  • Miss Chaos

They look kinda _____ in that picture, Ya, baby grands would have been better.

  • lamslova

what is taking so long for rickeys friend to call back???

  • Qcloud9

Wow, Anoop looks HOT in those twitpics Rickey’s showing!

LOL, Rickey’s humming & singing “Mananoop” & showing pics of Matt & Anoop.

  • cookcricket

Maybe Matt needed to do the Fray 1st or 2nd so it wouldn’t be a let down after his high energy songs.

  • ravengirl

Please let the intermission be over soon — I tire of Rickey’s manumanoop.

  • lamslova

    cmon cmon lol start!

  • GeminiDolly

I hope we arent missing Allison.

  • Mtlfan

    Rickey pink wig is hilarious!!!

  • GeminiDolly

OMG- what is that on rickeys head? ha ha

  • LisaE

I love how everyone looks otherworldly in the pics. Glowing halos and backlighting. lol. Allisons’ up! Yay!

  • Kirsten

Dueling piano pictures, not sure why but I was picturing baby grands instead of upright piano’s

Baby grands would have been large and heavy to move. Plus, you have to tune a piano every time you move it so they would have to have piano tuners on hot stand-by in every city. I just don’t see Idol wanting to do that with two pianos.

Those are electronic pianos unless I’m very much mistaken (no place for the strings/sound box to be). Electronic pianos can sound very real these days (ie sound like acoustic pianos and have better tactile response) for relatively cheap these days.

I’m just happy 19E ponied up the cash to bring two pianos with them.

  • mandabutter

Allisonnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, SAVE THE ROCKER. Opening with P!nk!!!

  • Squirrely

I’m not liking how Allison is coming over through the cellcast

  • girlygirl

Allison! Someone said she’s playing guitar?

  • lola

    Allison’s rockin it!!!!

  • Qcloud9

Allison sounds great, I love that song (So What) for her!

  • vanjess38

Rickey made me almost pee (Kris) on myself. What is he wearing on his head?

  • GeminiDolly

Yep, on guitar. She looks great.

  • iluvai

Wow. I can totally hear Allison. Yeah!

    I like Rickey’s hair. Funny!!!

    People are screaming!!! That’s awesome.

  • tierbee

My husband just wandered by to listen to Allison – he never watched much of Idol with me before this past season but he was hooked on Allison (and refused to watch after she was gone, lol).

I might have to go to a show, darnit. I’ve never gone to an Idols tour show before (not even for David Cook!).

  • Vak33

Allison sounds fricking amazing on Cry Baby.

  • Q3

Alison sounds good even on a cell-cast.

  • Qcloud9

Wow, Cry Baby is even better, amazing!!

  • Squirrely

Crybaby sounds waaay better than So What.

  • cookcricket

Lol, in a lot of the pics of Anoop he’s glowing! No wonder he needed the glasses. lol, or do we!! ;)

  • GeminiDolly

    Cry baby is friggin brilliant

  • girlygirl

Allison sounds great…but the sound keep cutting out!!!

  • Qcloud9

Looks like Rickey’s getting twitpics of Allison singing on stage.

  • Squirrely
  • iluvai

Allison and Adam duet should be coming soon… Squeeee!!!!!!!!!

  • ravengirl

One of the tweeters says the audience has been on their feet for all of Allison’s set. The rocker chick rules!
Should be interesting to see how that contrasts with Gokey.

  • twinkle

no, i think it is during adam’s set.

she sounds good even in the crappy audio!

  • iluvai

    Danny sounds great!!!

  • tierbee

Wow, love that pic of Allison!

  • Squirrely

    From USAToday

She’s claiming the rocker-chick look from the start, with her black outfit and white guitar, her hair blowing from fans on the stage floor. And this time, the entire floor of the venue is on its feet — and she’s not going to let them sit down during her second number, the Janis Joplin/Garnet Mimms classic Cry Baby.

    ETA: http://blogs.usatoday.com/idolchatter/
the whole article about her is great

  • GeminiDolly

    from usa today about Allison
I have to admit that I haven’t always seen what others saw in Allison. I wondered if the rocker-girl thing was a little too narrow. But she’s totally working the stage, and she has sounded fantastic on every song. If you liked her on the show, you’re going to love her live. And if she gets the right material, she will be a star.

  • madefourbabies

Lmao…Rickey is killing me with his moonwalk and MJ dancin’… :lol_tb: :clap_tb:

  • GeminiDolly

I love PYT and Danny did a good job.

  • GeminiDolly

My heart is beating a little faster. I can smell Adam. ha ha

  • spring2009

Omfg gokey grinded his crotch in front of my face. Brain bleaaach :(

Yep, pretty sure there are lots of us who would feel the same!

  • LisaE

Allison was awesome! I think the last four are perfectly separated. The rockers aren’t next to each other, so each can shine and give the audience a bit of a break in between!

  • will

Rickey started pole dancing during Danny’s number! WTF? I think he’s bored.

  • lola

What happened? No one’s excited about Danny? The crowd seems to quiet down after Allison.

  • girlygirl

I take it Danny tried to break out some salsa dancing?

  • ravengirl

Omfg gokey grinded his crotch in front of my face. Brain bleaaach :(

Oh. My. God. Sounds just weird.
The crowd seems to be kind to him, though.
Oh time for Rascal Flats treacle.
    WHERE IS ADAM????!!!!!!

  • spring2009

Danny is wearing jeans with combat boots over them and a big fatty chain. I kid you not.

GOKEY THREW HIS JACKET AT ME. Thank god for the barricade that blocked it from actually getting on me

    ROFLMAO

  • LisaE

Best four tweets in a row:

allenarose: Danny is wearing jeans with combat boots over them and a big fatty chain. I kid you not.

richardrushfield: Danny gokeys got salsa moves!

idoltourbenches: GOKEY THREW HIS JACKET AT ME. Thank god for the barricade that blocked it from actually getting on me

onportland@richardrushfield: I don’t know. I’m not feeling Danny as much as Alison who was a surprising tough act to follow.

Wow. I don’t know what to make of his act!

  • LaurelG

That USA Today blogger is fast. Great recaps!

  • ravengirl

Of course, the dead wife again. …

  • will

Yuck. Danny’s giving a revival meeting about overcoming tragedy. Spare us.

  • Mtlfan

Allison was really awesome and can’t wait youtube videos of her. Danny did very good on PYT; i like less Maria Maria. After the 3rd song he was getting loads of cheering

  • lola

Well, it seems Danny is doing good too. Good job!

  • karenw

I thought Gokey had finished but he was just preaching before his last song … how much time did that take up all you clock watchers? ….lol

  • girlygirl

Did Danny just stop the concert to basically preach at the crowd?

  • madefourbabies

Rickey poking fun at Gokey is too funny. Enough of Danny already…we NEED and WANT some ADAM!!! :jittery_tb: :clap_tb:

  • lola

    Gettin ready for my ADAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LisaE

Is it weird that I’m nervous for Adam? I think it’s because he’s so different than the other contestants. I hope the audience is ready!!!

  • Tess

He didn’t just fuckin’ preach to me during the middle of an idol concert. The guy does have some oversized balls, doesn’t he. I just can’t stand the guy!!!

  • karenw

    So Danny get’s 4 songs and a sermon ….lol

    That’s just like Adam’s 4 solo’s and a duet and Kris’s 5 solos …lol

  • tierbee

    Lol, Rickey. Silly man :)

    Adam time? YAY!

  • Susan M.

Finally!! I get back on the thread. I think it’s moving too fast and was hunting and pecking all over the place. Rickey’s is just cutting in and out and sounding underwater to me. Rushfield and Seattle Times are okay, but this is still the best commentary and best photos (how do you do that, MJ?). For some reason, I couldn’t get back.

  • iluvai

    Here comes Adam!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • GeminiDolly

The crowd is going insane. adam!!!

  • girlygirl

allenarose not impressed with Danny’s preaching:

#It was seriously gospel style preaching. Ok, be back after Adam if I’m still alive. That’s a big if.#3 minutes ago from TwitterFon

and now nothing but screaming…it’s Adam!

GOKEY THREW HIS JACKET AT ME. Thank god for the barricade that blocked it from actually getting on me”

LOL! This is killing me! LOL!

  • karenw

OMG the crowd are going balistic ….. come on Adam

  • tierbee

Haha, are we going to be able to hear Adam over all the screaming?!

  • iluvai

    I’m silent screaming! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • GeminiDolly

    he sounds so damn amazing

  • iluvai

It sounds like Adam under water, but it’s Adam. I’m so jealous of everyone at the concert!

  • Vak33

Danny sounded great, and I don’t see the big deal about the speech. It’s a bit cheesy, but it wasn’t like it was religious. Sometimes it’s nice to have the corny stuff in life. Crowd was going absolutely crazy for him according to Twitter. They seem oddly quiet during Adam’s performance, but I think that’s because many of his fans at these concerts may not know about the awesomness that is Led Zeppelin.

  • wiccagirl2009

“I thought Gokey had finished but he was just preaching before his last song ‘ ¦ how much time did that take up all you clock watchers? ‘ ¦.lol”

And he doesn’t want to sign with a religious group! LOL!

  • Qcloud9

OMG, Rickey was hilarious wearing his Ireheta Red wig hat& pole dancing during Adams’s “Whole Lotta Love”.

  • LisaE

Zero tweeting during Adam’s performance. That’s impressive.

  • girlygirl

Adam sounds fantastic…of course. i could do without the cell caster chick screaming right into the phone though!

  • girlygirl

Starlight! This is my favorite Muse song ever — and one of my favorite songs by anyone

  • koolgurl

Brian Mansfield thinks Danny did great, and so do a lot of people there.

  • Vak33

Honestly, Adam’s musical taste may be too eclectic for your typical Idols Tour crowd.

  • tierbee

OK, I want to go see Allison… and not be preached at by Danny… and Adam… I better step up my proofreading and earn some $ (maybe I should be doing that instead of listening to underwater Adam, lol).

  • Squirrely

Starlight is fantastic, Muse would approve!

  • iluvai

Adam sounds fantastic’ ¦of course. i could do without the cell caster chick screaming right into the phone though!

Seriously. LOL! My eardrums are being traumatized.

richardrushfield: Yes. That would be an opening. @adamlambert again leaves me amazed and duMfounded

I won’t torture myself again with these cell casts. I’ll wait until August 8th and 9th for the real deal. I just can’t help myself this first time. I love hearing everyone’s love and energy!!!

Maybe it’s just the crappy sound, but I’m not loving this so much’ ¦not up to Muse’s version.

Yeah, I seriously don’t think it’s possible to fairly judge any of the performances based on what we’re “hearing.”

  • GeminiDolly

yeah slow ride. They are tearing it up.

  • ravengirl

I’m noticing that Adam comes over the clearest, even those amazing high notes. He is just so so so good, even on a crappy cellcast.

“Adam” is a trending topic on Twitter. Apparently, people liked the pics. lol!

  • Susan M.

Finally, I was able to discern SOMETHING from the cell cast. And generally, I have a great connection and a reliable computer. Adam sounded like he was in a glass jar, in an oil drum at the bottom of the ocean, but I could hear something, finally. Rickey’s reactions were pretty cute though. He was transfixed.

  • Michelle

Lots of love from the crowd for Kris :D Heartless up first

“Is it weird that I’m nervous for Adam? I think it’s because he’s so different than the other contestants. I hope the audience is ready!!!”

Same here. I am always nervous because he is different and i really really like people to like him. To see what i see in him. He is so nice that i become protective of him, defending him against detractors. I think i made it a life long pledge to defend it. LOL! *crazy*.

  • LaurelG
  • CindyM

Didn’t listen, but love this from USA TOday..

“Second song is Muse’s Starlight, and the six disco balls hanging above the stage turns the Rose Garden into a planetarium. It’s Adam’s typically impressive song choice — for the arrangement, imagine Erasure’s Andy Bell fronting the Sisters of Mercy — and he sings it flawlessly, beautifully, slipping in and out of falsetto. (I wonder if this begins to approach what his album will sound like — you wouldn’t hear me complaining if it did.) Matt’s version of Hard to Handle was pretty cool, but this is the first of the new numbers I’d lay down cash money to hear again.”

    I can’t wait!!!

    Yeah!!!!!! Finally Kris!!!

Adam Lambert finished second? You couldn’t tell it from this crowd, which greets the explosive sounds and strobing lights with shrieks. Adam kicks off his set with Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love, and the stage fills with smoke. He’s wearing a blue-and-black metallic-looking studded jacket that comes down to his knees, along with a sleeveless black T-shirt and black pants. The crowd may have been dancing for Allison and Danny — for Adam, they’re screaming. Suddenly we’ve gone from the world of AC pop into a real rock show.

  • tierbee

Poor dude having to sing No Boundaries 3 zillion times this summer!

  • Qcloud9

    It’s just you, Sparkles!

  • unique28v

The crowd sounds like they REALLY loved Adam!! I could definitely hear the screams when Allison joined him. I have a feeling their duet will be one of the highlights of this tour this year. It sounds/looks like a good time!

  • GeminiDolly
  • girlygirl

Kris sounded great on Heartless…the crowd seems to have loved it to. Now let’s get through the climbing mountains song and get to Bright Lights and Hey Jude

Even through a crappy cellcast Adam sounded AMAZING!!! The crowd loved him! They were also going C-razy for Kris, especially at the beginning of Heartless…he’s sounding great as well!!! It even sounded like the crowd might have been singing along w/ NB….(or maybe it was the echo, heh.) Anyway, I was almost tempted to sing along, haha. Almost. :)

    USA Today

    Your American Idol: Kris Allen

Kris Allen gets a big build-up on the video screens. The stage hands need the time, because they’re setting up a smaller, more intimate environment for him on the stage. A kabuki-drop curtain goes down behind him, and one of the lighting rigs descends from the rafters, while Kris comes up on the lift with his acoustic guitar. It takes a moment for everything to settle into place, but the girls in the audience don’t mind: They fill the pause with their screams of delight.

When Kris finally sings, it’s his version of Kanye West’s Heartless. The crowd is into it, though nothing like they were with Adam. Kris’ career, it seems, will live and die on his songs and their arrangements. Adam, on the other hand, will be able to rely just as much on the reputation of his live performances.

Next up, it’s No Boundaries, but it’s not getting anywhere near the level of reaction that Heartless did. In fact, people are starting to sit down. It’s just inexcusable that the Idol winner has to include a song that elicits that kind of reaction. It’s a set killer. I’d heard the studio version of No Boundaries just enough since the Idol season ended that I’d almost decided it was benign, but Kris has to be royally ticked that he’s been shackled to this ball and chain.

Third song is also from the show: Bill Withers’ Ain’t No Sunshine, followed by Matchbox 20′s Bright Lights. Kris is holding his own, considering how much of a bring-down No Boundaries was, but he’s going to need some big hits of his own if he ever hopes to fill halls this size again. Musically, his brand of pop seems like it might be better suited to smaller halls, like theaters in the 2,500 to 5,000-seat range. During Bright Lights, he leaves the piano and grabs an electric guitar. The audience is thankful and begins to stand again — but maybe just because he’s farther back on the stage and it’s harder to see him. Regardless, the energy level in the hall starts to rise again.

“Has everybody got their lighters out?” he asks. Well, a few of them do. Most of them have cellphones. Or glo-sticks. They wave them happily anyway for the Beatles’ Hey Jude. Kris gets two sets of “na-na-na-nas” on his own, then he gets the audience to sing along — they’re all with him. Several of the Idols return stage to finish, and that brings the remaining few sitters in the crowd. It’s a big love fest — and, more than 40 years after its release, the simple chorus of Hey Jude remains undeniable.

As are the opening piano chords of Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing, and Matt and Scott are playing them as they rise out of the stage again behind their pianos. It’s the cheesiest moment of the night, but it’s effective, and the song’s strange song structure is oddly suited for an Idol group sing, since the chorus doesn’t come in until the very end of the song, giving Adam and Kris, who left the stage after Hey Jude, a perfect spot to return to maximum screamage. The Idols spread out around the edge of the stage for a chorus of Steam’s Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye, and they’re back into the Journey chorus. Adam gives the band a shout-out. Bubbles descend from the ceiling. The Idols pump their fists with a final “Don’t stop!” Cue the theme. That’s a wrap.

everyone should check out brian mansfield’s (USA Today’s Idol Chatter) review of the concert tonight. I think he does a good job of balancing the good and bad of all contestants.

  • lola

But what does Rushfield meant when he said Kris transforms the arena to a little club?

  • Susan M.

The real question: how does Brian Mansfield get those critiques up in real time, coherently, with no typos? I thought Kris sounded really good (well, as good as anyone can from the bottom of the Dead Sea). Maybe my streaming was getting better or maybe I was just getting used to it, but his energy and tone really came through.

  • GeminiDolly

Does Kris really really really have to sing NB? I agree with USA today. its a set Killer.

  • KenzTK

But what does Rushfield meant when he said Kris transforms the arena to a little club?

He means that he made it intimate. That it felt like he was singing it to him and not 20,000 others. Not too many artist can do that, it’s a very unique quality.

  • Susan M.

He means that he made it intimate. That it felt like he was singing it to him and not 20,000 others. Not too many artist can do that, it’s a very unique quality.

Actually, he was describing how they changed the stage set up to LOOK like more intimate show. He said it took a little time to change the set up from Adam’s big dramatic one.

  • girlygirl

I just wish Kris could drop that crappy No Boundaries song. Why does he have to do it on tour? The song has been out for over a month — it isn’t going to get some bump in sales now just because he’s doing it on tour.

Let Kris do whatever songs HE wants to do — just like the other 9 Idols get to do.

Still, it sounds like he more than held his own after Adam’s set, which is pretty hard to do. As far as I could tell, no one did poorly. And I bet they all had a blast up on that stage in front of that huge crowd.

  • Squirrely

What a shock- the reviewers who preferred Adam during the season still prefer him. They still don’t speak for everyone.

I actually gasped when the Twitpic of Adam in his sleeveless shirt opened up. Whoa! What an entertainer. I am VERY entertained. :jittery_tb:

  • lola

Thanks, snuffles. Now I get it. USA Today….I agree. Rushfield…I agree too.

  • colette

But what does Rushfield meant when he said Kris transforms the arena to a little club?

He means that he made it intimate. That it felt like he was singing it to him and not 20,000 others. Not too many artist can do that, it’s a very unique quality.

Absolutely right. I expected that Adam, with inherent theatricality and love of big showmanship, would have a blast in this kind of setting. But just as the AI judges praised his fearlessness, I give props to Kris for doing his thing too. Next time Kris plays a stadium it will be with his own band. This time he’s tied to the format and the wretched coronation song, which he makes sound as good as it possibly can get given its essential dreckyness.

Someone compared his kind of music to James Taylor’s. Sweet Baby James, one of my all time favorite performers, does not play stadiums often. He does a lot of outdoor concerts, larger theaters, etc. And he has a wonderful band and backup singers. But he also makes you feel he’s singing right to you.

Anyway, no excuses are needed for Kris. He is who he is, and me likee.

And sexiness, as well know, is in the eye of the beholder. I find the boyish cutie pies a lot more attractive than the guyliner guys with the smoke bombs, but that’s just me….. :cool1_tb:

He was truly amazing, mad props to him for writing such cogent and evocative reviews on the fly. And nary a typo or grammatical error!

  • CindyM

The reviewers don’t speak for everyone, they speak for themselves and they were THERE to actually experience the concert, which is more than I can say for some. BTW, I’d say Adam’s always seemed more like a ringmaster to me, rather than the clown. Although, according to Nancy O’Dell, his shoe shize may fit in the category of “clown size”. Oh well, different strokes. It sounds like all of the idols did fantastic and I’m glad they were all treated well by the crowd from what I read.

  • iluvai

If this was a contest on smokin hot photos, Adam wins hands down.

I like real men. In any way shape or form!

  • Squirrely

USA Today was giving pretty fair reviews for everyone tonight. And I did think they raved about Adam.

  • helaena

this is what kara pointed out, “if you can’t feel a kris allen performance, there is something wrong with you” kris makes us feel like his singing the song for us…he makes it really intimate! it’s always a feel good…

  • idolislife

“And sexiness, as well know, is in the eye of the beholder. I find the boyish cutie pies a lot more attractive than the guyliner guys with the smoke bombs, but that’s just me’ ¦.. ”

hee hee and Adam does things to me i will never be able to fully understand or express…it’s just a matter of personal preferance haha

  • Trina

And sexiness, as well know, is in the eye of the beholder. I find the boyish cutie pies a lot more attractive than the guyliner guys with the smoke bombs, but that’s just me’ ¦.

Yep same here! I’ll take sweet and low key any day of the week.

  • Tess

What does it matter what anyone else says….if I LIKE SOMETHING that is all the matters. I don’t need validation from a hundred other sources. If we all liked the same thing, the world might as well just be colored black and white instead of all the wonderful colors and shades we get to enjoy.

The important thing, to me, is that, as far as I can gather, the Idols really enjoyed themselves and that they had fun on stage, probably for the first time. They got to feel like “real entertainers” which they are and they got instant feedback from the myriad of fans. Congrats on opening night, Idols, and you all sounded really nice even through a crappy cell phone.

  • rockvixen

  • https://twitter.com/pmhowden undercooked

Kara is going to continue to take a beating on this No Boundaries song. I wonder if they will bring the song writing contest back next year. Let’s face it, TOML is still hanging in there. It’s a catchy tune.

  • hwc

this is what kara pointed out, ‘if you can’t feel a kris allen performance

She’s the woman who wrote No Boundaries and Open Toes, right?

Oh and even though the audio was pretty bad, that cell cast still made me even more excited for when I gt to see this show in person ‘” in just 11 days (yay)

I have to wait until the middle of August. :(

From what I heard, the crowd sounded plenty loud and extremely responsive for Kris. They seemed to love him. I don’t know what the USA Today guy was talking about. Maybe he has an agenda?

But anyway, Kris isn’t doing a rock show. The songs, like Ain’t No Sunshine, are songs you stay still and listen to. You can’t measure on a decibel meter chills a singer gives you, or the rapt attention an audience gives a singer. Or the way a singer draws you in and makes you feel he’s singing only to you. I’m glad I “get” him. It’s been a privelege to get to know him and his talent.

  • Anne03

Here’s a good picture of Adam and Kris together.

And if Adam wasn’t the main draw before now, he certainly will be after word of tonight’s concert gets out.

    http://twitpic.com/9h292

  • Michelle

I know I’m desperate when I sit thru a crappy cellcast (Rickey was hilarious though). Looking forward to seeing the girls (seems like Megan and Lil are better here than on the show), Anoop, Matt and Kris! That “hey hey goodbye” part inserted into the end number sounded awkward, maybe it makes more sense if you can actually see them, lol.

  • cookcricket

Brian Mansfield based a lot of his blog on the response of the crowd. IDK how significant this is, but according to the geopredictions on DI, Adam got the most votes in both Oregon and Washington….

  • Squirrely

Kris is cute, Adam is GORGEOUS! I felt they both did well tonight and can’t wait to see them live.

  • AC

Haha.. I don’t care if I’m the only one standing up. I will be up standing and singing along to the best craptastic song eva- No Boundaries!! I’m so excited to see Kradison and Manoop(that’s Matt and Anoop right?).

  • robie88

And not one pic of Megan!!! :furious_tb: boy oh boy! I don’t get the whole thing with Adam. In these pics he looks about 20 pounds overweight, with the flabbiest arms I’ve ever seen on a twenty-something gay man. While all the girls on twitpic are raving nuts for how drop-dead gorgeous he supposedly looks. I keep expecting him to go into some blubbery theatrical rendition of “One Last Kiss”.

Adam looks better with his jacket on, cool jacket!

I thought so too. Wasn’t diggin’ the sleeveless black shirt.

  • rockvixen

MJ ok so posters are allowed to insult the idols but we can’t talk back to posters.

  • whyso

I think Adam should keep his jacket on. Of all those guys only Kris has the body to pull that look off.

  • star

I hope to wake up to a video of Adam singing “Starlight” with crystal clear audio in the morning. Guhhhh. :wub_tb:

  • Natasha

I’m dizzy after Adam’s set. Man oh man. I loved every minute of it even if I was just listening to it over a cell phone at Rickey’s (thanks Rickey!). Incredible, or in the immortal words of Paula Abdul – Phe nomenal.

Loved Allison too. She rocked especially on Cry Baby. Sounded great.

  • Squirrely

But what does Rushfield meant when he said Kris transforms the arena to a little club?

He was referring to the set design – the show producer talked about it as well in his LA Times interview today. He said Adam’s was big and explosive and Kris was more subtle (I’m paraphrasing of course)

  • listen

    KRADAM!
    http://twitpic.com/9h292

WOW >> Adam looks really HOT in that photo. Kris, looks like a lost, little kid. Kris is cute, but not in Adam’s league.

Oh, and just ’cause Adam is “on fire” doesn’t mean he can’t be sweet. I bet he is a real sweetheart off stage and in a one-on-one situation. Being “sexy-hot” and “sweet” are not mutually exclusive….

  • colette

I like real men. In any way shape or form!

LOL — I guess we’ve come a long way, because my old dad would have said no guy who goes for other guys and wears makeup could possibly be a “real man”! It’s good to get those barriers knocked down. And though my gaydar always goes off loud and clear when Adam is performing, I do think it’s neat that he has a very androgynous appeal.

Meanwhile, let’s set the record straight here. Mr Rushfield DID say Kris turned the place into a small club atmosphere. And that ain’t so easy.

In any event, I went to the AI show last year and this one sounds waaaaaay better. Last year there were four good performers IMO, and here it sounds like there were 10 (maybe 9, I didn’t read about whether Megan sounded good….)

  • Tess

MY only complaint about the whole show and the only part that put a damper on the proceedings was Danny’s little Sunday sermon. Oh well, you can take the preacher out of the church, but you can’t take the church out of the preacher. It wasn’t cool, or inspiring…it was nauseating and a mood killer. Way to go, Danny!

  • BestAI

It’s not just the critics who love Adam, apparently the audience did too. I’m sure in different venues, the audience will love Kris more than Adam. I’m getting excited to see Adam just from the comments. For sure when Adam has his own concerts, we’ll need earplugs because the whole audience will be his fans. Can you imagine the noise level?

And no, you cannot insult the posters back. Maybe you should read my guidelines.

Loving the Kradam pics! I’ve seen at least 4 … all awesome! The great thing about living in S. Cal is that if I wanted to, I could take in both LA shows and the SD show. I’m soooo tempted! I’ve officially lost it.

I’ll be honest, I was personally worried about the “tank top.” I was worried it might be a little too much like “YouTube Adam,” which, let’s face it, isn’t “commercial/rock star Adam” (which I prefer). But the tank he chose looked awesome on him. He rocked it for the second half of the Bowie medley. It sounds like it was appropriate to what he was doing onstage, and I don’t know if you can fully appreciate Adam unless you can see him doing his thang.

  • rockvixen

Yes Adam talked to the crowd. Don’t know what he said as it was inaudible.

  • star

Did Adam even talk to the crowd at all? i dont remember??

He said something before “Starlight” I’m pretty sure. I couldn’t understand it, however.

  • Jayd

“Here’s a good picture of Adam and Kris together.”

Thanks for the pic, Anne! I wonder what Kris is thinking in this picture? It kind of looks like a WTF moment, or How the hell does he do that?

ETA: Noticed just now that I missed a similar comment before, thought I’d read everything. Oh well, it’s almost 1 a.m. here, and I’m tired from the big weekend.

  • Laurie

“I never liked the circus or their clowns”….Neither do I Nola, LOL! Ultimately it doesn’t matter what the reviewers say, it is whether or not the buying public follows their careers once the AI tour is over and supports their music. They have to be able to sell records and fill concert halls to have any longevity beyond this tour. I know I am stating the obvious, but only time will tell, and right now is far too soon to know if any of them has staying power.

  • Gigi3

You could always tell Adam’s voice was gonna be GREAT in a big arena. The finale performances with KISS and Queen showed that to be true; tonight he filled the arena with his voice alone. I had chills listening to a cellcast from across the country over the internet. Imagine the effect on the audience there! I can NOT WAIT till I see the tour in August, and I’ve never even considered attending an AI concert before this year.

I listened to the top 4 on the cellcert…well, I listened to most of Kris. The sound was AWFUL. The only song out of all that that I could hear even halfway decently was PYT. I won’t be listening to a cellcert again, I don’t think.

I read the USA Today blog and it sounds like the idols received applause pretty much in accordance to their respective finishes, with maybe the exception of Adam and Kris.

I’m not a Kris fan, but unlike Allison, Danny, and Adam, his set did not start out with a really fast driving or real rock song. Heartless starts with a very mellow vibe. I think it’s like comparing apples to oranges. Kris’s set is much more mellow than Adam’s set….people react differently to mellow songs.

Again, I prefer Adam to Kris, personally, but I don’t the the clap-o-meter says much.

  • AC

haha.. I thought Kris is looking at Adam like that because he’s thinking wtf is going on with that jean vest?! hehe..

So I know that during the group performance, I am going to be taking a ton of pictures of Kradam- must document their every move. haha

  • twinkle

no matter. i dont care what HE likes. i know what I like… and that is adam and his black sleeveless shirt and leather pants. meow.

im imagining paula saying “take it all IN” with this picture.

i think they all sounded great. and kris and adam are both fantastic and totally different, and i LOVE that about them. i needed something soothing to calm me down after adam’s set. kris gives me chills and adam gives me gasms. and i really CANNOT believe i do not have tickets to this concert. i gotta find a way to get there.

  • colette

Let’s remember, though, for all these kids — you can be a wonderful artist and not a huge commercial success. I wish them all the best, and think Kris and Adam at least have a great shot at recording big hits. But some of my favorite singers/songwriters don’t rack up huge sales — and in the arts, it was ever thus. If you move people with your music, you’re doing something great no matter who many widgets you sell….

  • iluvai

Tall, dark and handsome. That’s sums it up for me…..heehee.

  • Q3

Brian Mansfield based a lot of his blog on the response of the crowd. IDK how significant this is, but according to the geopredictions on DI, Adam got the most votes in both Oregon and Washington’ ¦.

To be fair to Brian Mansfield, he reported on the crowd response and also reported about his opinion of the performances and the crowd report. Here’s an example from his review of Matt’s performance:

As he introduces Georgia on My Mind, he talks about how, not so long ago, he was singing just that kind of song in hotel lounges. And his performance has just a little too much of the hotel lounge left in it. The crowd loves it, but they’re responding more to the song (and memories of Ray Charles’ rendition of it) than they are to Matt’s performance.

It’s hard to know how accurate his opinion is unless you were at the show and didn’t have a fav. I am not sure I could be unbiased about Danny or Adam since I have strong opinions about both of them.

  • Cakenbake

    Richard Rushfield:

They took a big risk on kris’ slo mo silent intro but it played perfectly

Heartless holds up. Beautiful opening for kris. Transforms the arena to a little club.

Seems to me he’s talking first about the risk of the set and then about Kris himself.

  • Q3

I do believe the strangest part of this whole concert was Danny’s “speech”. From what I could hear and had now read online, it sounded very preachy. I hope he drops this before he comes to Memphis (my show).

  • twinkle

fat gut? are you kidding me? the only picture where he has the slightest belly is one of the sleeveless ones and im pretty sure that is because of the way he is leaning back and powering through a note. honestly, i think hes losing too much weight. it bothers me that he keeps bringing it up that he needs to lose more.

  • star

LOL forever. (I’m guessing this came from ONTD AI.)

  • lilbrusc102

I love Adam. And Allison. And Kris. I think they are all amazing at what they do, and they all sounded incredible, even through a crappy cellcast, and the crowd in Portland seemed to love them, as did the reviewers.

It’s an exciting season when not only my favorite (Adam) but also my second and third faves get record contracts at the end!

and to whoever said that Kris gives them chills and Adam gives them ‘gasms: Me too…That is the perfect way to describe it, haha.

  • Jayd

Wondering 1) Do they tweak the show in big or little ways as they go on? Like rearranging songs in their sets, as some said Matt should rearrange his. It sounds like a great show, but I’m not going to get to see it until September, which leads me to my next question,

    2) Overall, does it “improve” as they go on, or do they sound more tired towards the end? I would think that those who are used to singing on a regular basis would know how to take care of their voices on such a grueling schedule.

I flove the pics of Adam: jacket or no, s’all good!

  • Tess

Do they tweak the show in big or little ways as they go on?

Yes, they tweek the show if needs be. I think that some song order may end up changing if the singer and director really feel that the current order has an adverse affect on crowd response.

And…the Idols usually get much better as the tour rolls along. They become more comfortable, their voices actually tend to become stronger, they have better stage presence and their nerves tend to dissipate.

  • isisdagmar

It made me really happy that Brian Mansfield loved Adam so much–during the show he seemed to like Adam the most, but he wasn’t a head-over-heels-can’t-be-remotely-objective fan, and he criticized Adam when he felt he deserved it, so his praise tonight really meant something.

And it sounds like he thought that Allison was amazing and Kris was excellent, so good news all around. :)

This is my first year, but it seems like the reactions from some of the bloggers (such as Rushfield) are that this is the most exciting, current concert ever produced by AI. I seriously can barely contain my excitement until I actually see the show.

  • tierbee

And, sniff, I am now wondering if I will ever get to see a dancing PopTart. Boohoo!

I’m super excited to see the concert now that I’ve seen the pictures and read a couple of opinions. I tuned in for the first minute of Sarver’s set, but decided that I wanted to be “surprised” by how the rest of the Idols sound. I can’t wait for Adam, Kris, Danny (except for the preaching :/), Allison, and Anoop. It appears that everyone did a great job. Oh, and in the pictures both Adam AND Kris look pretty darn amazing. :wub_tb:

Josie, y’know, it really does feel good. I’ve been reading here so much, that I had this very nervous feeling in my gut that Danny would be pelted with tomatoes and booed off the stage….lol. I mean, on one level, I knew that pretty much everyone I’ve come in contact with around my parts liked him, but reading online did have me worried.

That quote above from the idoltourbenches is good. She/He really didn’t like Danny, but commented on the love he got from the crowd….so you know it’s real. I’m happy for Danny because I know that he knew about the online hate.

I’m very happy for all of the idols. Sounds like it was a good show and I CAN”T WAIT to go see Adam and Danny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • stelladallas

Regarding Danny’s speech or preaching, don’t we have a “preachy” idol every year during the concert? Last year Syesha was like that, and season 5 it was Mandisa. I didn’t go to the concert for season 6, so I can’t say, although I could see Melinda filling the role.

  • jammasta

Kris’s shirt looks like tape and patches in the close up picture. It kinda makes him look like a shirtless military man with only patches covering up his wounds but still going out to sing to a crowd. It’s kinda cool, actually.

I really can’t wait until I go on Friday.

I was surprised how smoothly the concert went along…it didn’t seem like 3 hours. The Idols must be exhausted now…all that nervous anticipation, then actually getting out on stage. It’s a good thing they have tomorrow off.

I hope we get some pics and tweets from the afterparty (if there is one).

  • JosieX

aek, did you see the USA Today blog? The link is in MJ’s original post. Bruce Mansfield also talked about the crowd reaction to Danny, and it is very positive. I think I remember seeing you write that you were going to the show…now you can look forward to it even more!

  • Cheetara86

    a little excerpt from twop:

I loved Allison’s set. She was able to hold her own with bandzilla on steroids the best. I thought Barracuda was excellent, although my husband called it a trainwreck. He later revised that to he thought the song was too big for her. I disagree. She sounds amazing live.

Slowride was o.k. I think maybe it loses a little because it’s no longer a surprise. I hate the song, so there’s that.

When I was watching her I really thought I was looking at the next Kelly Clarkson.

    She was a crowd favorite.

  • babybelle32

This from Brian Mansfield, he somewhat gives Kris his due, after writing a very idiotic review for Idol Chatter:

    http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news/2009-07-05-idols-tour-recap_N.htm

The night’s winners included Lil Rounds, who came across as far more comfortable away from the judges’ critical glare, and Allison Iraheta, who combined youthful exuberance with convincing rock chops. Adam Lambert and Kris Allen dominated, though ‘” the place went haywire for Lambert’s extravagant vocals and lithe moves, and Allen’s more intimate appeal.

It’s odd how peopel who weren’t even there are trying to say that the crowd wasn’t in to Kris’ set.

It’s amazing that Kris could create an intimate atmosphere, despite performing in front of a crowd of 20,000 screaming fans. That speaks to his talent, and one of his biggest strengths during the season, he has the ability to make an emotional connection with the audience. That little fact makes Brian’s original review seem even stupider.

  • Cakenbake

Anoop looked hot in that photo. He looks good in white. Many people don’t look good in white, but Anoop pulled it off.

  • Cakenbake

So did they do a Dance routine or did the group just stand there and sing? I wonder how Scott handled the group numbers?

Matt and Scott look like twins. At first I didn’t know who was who, since Matt’s trademark is his fedora hat.

    A recap from IDF:

Confession – I haven’t read the thread – I just got home from the Portland show so I’m giving you my raw impressions.

I literally decided at 7pm tonight to go to the show. I left my house at 7:15, was parked and in the stadium by 7:40 and seated in time to see Lil, Anoop, and Matt. They were all awesome. Anoop could be a real hottie if he would grow his hair long. Matt really rocked out on the piano. Lil looked beautiful and sounded great.

At the box office I accidentally asked for Adam Lambert tickets and the girl in the booth cracked up laughing.

On the way in, I stopped for a glass of wine, and I asked the woman next to me who was singing – she said “that scott guy – the adam show doesn’t start for another hour or so”.

I was seated pretty close to the stage, but on the side, about 20 rows up.

Allison blew the roof off the place. She was so freaking awesome. I love her.

Gokey was ok for the first couple of songs – he did a good job with PYT, but then he got boring.

Then it was Adam. The stadium went insane. Insane!! He’s so electrifying in person. WLL, followed by Starlight, which was incredibly beautiful – he stayed still for the performane, then Mad World, then Slow Ride, and finally he took off the jacket and it was just him and his biceps and his gyrating and Bowie, and I totally died and went to heaven. Gahhh

Kris was good, Heartless, and Hey Jude were very good, but goodness the energy drained out of there when Adam left the stage. He and Kris came up through the riser for Don’t Stop Believin, and Adam had lots of shiny glittery stuff on his vest and boots and jeans, but the real show was over when his solo was done.

Great crowd, great show, Adam was clearly the star (sorry kris). The acoustics weren’t that great, it was less about Adam the singer, than Adam the hot sexy performer.

Explain to me what is “trending topic” on twitter? How is that figured out?

  • Truthiness

Crappy cellcast quality and all, I was pleasantly surprised that it seemed that some people sounded MUCH better than I was expecting. Sarver, Megan, Lil, Scott and Matt, I’m looking at you.

And it just zipped along! I was really surprised at how quickly the show went and how they just cranked it from one person to the next. I don’t know if this is how they do normal AI concerts, but it is different from regular concerts I’ve been to.

The only down spots I heard were Matt’s last number, I think he should move it to the middle. And parts of Gokey’s set, and I facepalmed when he started talking about his dead wife and sermonizing. Oy vey. DNW. Allison, Adam and Kris all sounded great despite the poor audio quality. Though I will say honestly, it was a bit of a letdown after Adam’s set and Kris’s great Heartless, to hear that Natural Disasters song. Can Kris ditch it? I’ve heard David Cook stopped singing his crappy coronation song at some point, is this true? If so, please let Kris be able to do this.

  • twinkle

i believe it’s based on how many times that word, or similar words, are included in people’s tweets. sort of like the trending topics on google are based on how many times people search for that word or name

lol Adam is #4 on Twitters trending topics. People can’t stop talking about him even though they didn’t go to the tour.

I was just talking with my friend who went to the concert. She’s bummed that she didn’t get Adam’s autograph but she did say that Adam received the most screams and attention tonight. And I just read some twitters and it seems like he was the most well received! I’m so happy for him.

    From TWOP:

Oh My Ra, I was at the show tonight . I am literally gob-smacked by how insanely good (and gorgeous) Adam-freaking-rockstar-Lambert was.

It was just the scenario I had expected, a bunch of somewhat talented kareoke singers did their things, then Adam comes on and blows the roof off the place. WLL and MW were awesome, Slow Ride w/Allison was fantastic, but holy flipping crap was the Bowie Medley good!!! The sexy, sexy dancing! He took off his jacket! The mod updated version of Let’s Dance! Did I mention he took off his jacket? I think that might have been my favorite thing , lol.

I know this might sound cheesy, but I honestly felt like I was witnessing the birth of a superstar. He kinda messed up the lyrics a bit on WLL. but I think all of them, even Adam were probably a bit nervous, being the first show and all.

Oh, the crowd to me, anyway, seemed to be very much pro-Adam. He got the more and louder screams whenever his picture was shown on the jumbotron, and when he actually appearded in the flesh, the place went nuts.

  • lola

Love that slow ride video….new moves from Adam. Is he having his own signature moves (@1:16) like his idol MJ?

  • Truthiness

And Adam fantard that I am, was he attacked by a bedazzler before the show? Can I hope that being the clotheshorse that he is, that Adam ditches his last outfit by his next show? And possibly burns it after that. Though it at least it was a flattering fit. That’s the only nice thing I can say about that outfit. Oh and possibly it was easy to spot from far off, so nice of him to think of people with cheap seats? okay, that really is the last nice thing I can say about that outfit.

  • twinkle

i agree truthiness… i can do without the bedazzled denim jacket.

that slow ride video was AHHHHMAZING! they both rocked it out and adam just moves around the stage so effortlessly and with such great moves! i love when he says “sing it to ‘em” to allison.

ugh. it’s 3:21am and i have a ton of work that has to be done in about 12 hours but i cannot focus until i see footage of the bowie medley. no sleep for the fantarded.

What I am really excited for are those YouTube videos, and the ones that are coming, anything that involves Adam/Allison and even Kris, I was not a fan of his voice during the season, but I love the guy and his song choices for the tour.

I am seriously amazed about Adam being a trending topic on twitter. Every single U2 fan was tweeting about U2′s opening show in Barcelona last Tuesday. We did not manage to make U2, Bono or Barcelona a trending topic. Tonight, on a smaller tour, Adam Lambert appears at the #4 trending topic. It really surprises me.

    - the only one he really gave high praise to was Allison. But from the overall reviews everyone did great.

I thought he gave pretty unequivocally high praise to Adam too, no? He loved Allison (which made me so happy), and I think he was a bit surprised by that since he didn’t love her completely while she was on the show, but seemed to love Adam a lot as well. And his praise to Kris wasn’t unequivocal, but it was probably the highest praise after Adam and Allison.

And Sunn, I have to disagree. :) I was nervous about Starlight because that’s probably my favorite Muse song, and it can be difficult to hear even wonderfully sung new versions of your favorite songs, but I thought it was pretty much perfect–ethereally delicate yet powerful simultaneously.

So glad that Kris, Adam, and Allison did so well.

You can’t measure on a decibel meter chills a singer gives you, or the rapt attention an audience gives a singer. Or the way a singer draws you in and makes you feel he’s singing only to you. I’m glad I ‘get’ him. It’s been a privelege to get to know him and his talent.

  • isisdagmar

It seems Adam does the same thing when he slows his set down. Apparently Mad World is so beautiful it can reduce people to tears when you hear it live

The USA Today writer said, “Low-level fog creeps in, as Adam takes a seat on a stool to sing the Tears for Fears/Gary Jules song Mad World. The crowd is still on its feet, and they’ve brought out their cameras — you could practically read in here, the flashes are so steady. Some people are singing along; most of them just look entranced.”

  • Mom in the Suburbs

Let me add my thanks to MJ for having a forum like this and thanks to all the video links. !From the parts I’ve seen and heard, many things to look forward to on July 31: Danny and Lil are excellent vocalists with great tone. Anoop is also very powerful. As expected, Allison and Kris sing and perform like pros already!

And Adam, wow, Starlight (and I’m a fan of the original) is gorgeous, though not exactly like Muse. The Bowie medley is one I’ve already rewatched. That dancing….Is it getting warm in here, or is it just me? So mesmerizing on stage, his voice, his moves, his style and good looks. After seeing these clips, no wonder Brian Mansfield gave such high praise and noted, “Adam Lambert finished second? You couldn’t tell it from the crowd…”

  • Squirrely

The crowd is still on its feet, and they’ve brought out their cameras ‘” you could practically read in here, the flashes are so steady. Some people are singing along; most of them just look entranced.’

Ok, this is all I need to get me through a day at work after the holiday! Holy hottness with that pic of Adam! And the tank top!!! :wub_tb:

I’m a little torn about how much to watch of the vids – I’m not used to knowing this much about a tour before I go, and I kind of like the suspense – hmm, reminds me of the spoiler sites I frequent for some of my other fav shows. I’d almost rather watch everyone but Adam, so as not to ruin that for me.

But more Adam in anticipation of my tour date (which isn’t till August) is always a good thing to tide me over!

  • Mary102

It seems Adam does the same thing when he slows his set down. Apparently Mad World is so beautiful it can reduce people to tears when you hear it live

Reminds me of watching him perform the song on the Today Show – it was absolutely entrancing, and the audience was really noticeably affected by it. His voice is just so unbelievable on that song, and the song itself is so haunting.

  • BeckyMD

Wow Starlight was fantastic. I already re-watch it several times. WLL and Mad World were great too. I think he needs to work on the Bowie medley tho, especially ‘let’s dance’. I don’t know if it’s because the quality of youtube video, there his sound was a little off bit and not as clear as his previous songs, and the choreography needs polish too.

    Go to re-watch Starlight, again.

  • Kirsten

It seems Adam does the same thing when he slows his set down. Apparently Mad World is so beautiful it can reduce people to tears when you hear it live

Top 10 Things that the Audience Does When Idols “Slow it Down”

    10. Michael Sarver – they start writing songs. Some have been known to write 10 songs in 4 minutes! I hear that a little girl in the audience was able to bang off in 33 seconds the next coronation song last night in Oregon. I hear it’s even better than “No Boundaries”. Like 10 times.

    9. Megan – audience members start molting. Some even lay eggs.

    8. Scott – Believe it or not, they’re walking on air. They never thought they would feel so free-eee-eee. Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be? Believe it or not it’s just them.

    7. Lil – start texting Simon back-talk.

    6. Anoop – join a Frat and then quickly quit the Frat when they realize that Anoop was never in Frat. Text Kara some hate-mail.

    5. Matt – leave the show, come back to the show, leave the show, come back to the show, leave the show, come back to the show, and so on.

    4. Allison – suddenly, the audience dye their hair red. But don’t worry, nobody cuts themselves. Text Simon some hate-mail. Surf the web on their phones, find a florist, send flowers to Slezak.

    3. Danny – they slip into a trance during which they begin doing pelvic thrusts whilst trying to inspire people. Let’s just say, it gets kind of ugly in the floor seats.

    2. Adam – start bedazzling the sh!t out of everything in sight. One woman even bedazzled her cat. Why the cat was there last night, I’ll never know.

    1. Kris – spontenously start thinking that plaid is chic and think about where they can buy a red apron. Then, they text their senators and try to get Kara banned from writing songs.

  • Renina

  • emmuzka

Even when I think tht Adam put out the best show, Kris’ “Hey Jude” was the one that got me shivering. I didn’t remember that the song was tht good! Who would have thought that that would be the one to get a physical response out of me!

  • Mary102

Great crowd, great show, Adam was clearly the star (sorry kris). The acoustics weren’t that great, it was less about Adam the singer, than Adam the hot sexy performer.

This is kind of what I expected. Regardless of who is your fav singer or style (and Adam is certainly not everyone’s cup of tea, to be sure), it’s hard to deny that he has A-MAZING (word of the day ;-) ) charisma and energy on stage. One of the best of all time on idol, imo.

Not to say he’s the end all be all, just that he has a level of OTT showmanship when he gets on that stage.

  • Kirsten

The RollingStone review of the concert is out:
    http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/07/06/adam-lambert-kris-allen-hit-the-stage-again-as-american-idols-live-tour-kicks-off-in-portland/

The two biggest stars of the show ‘” winner Kris Allen and runner-up Adam Lambert ‘” embraced what endeared them to millions of fans throughout Season Eight. ‘Glambert’ was out in full force, with tight pants, his otherworldly wail and a tribute to the original rock androgyne, David Bowie. Wrapped in a plaid shirt and a pair of jeans, Allen kept it simple and real, embracing the stripped-down soul sound that elevated him from dark horse to worthy champion.

Has nice things to say about everybody.

Well, considering it is (I believe) the first time he’s ever performed the song publicly, and in front of such a huge crowd, I thought his vocal was stunning.

Actually, I wasn’t sure if I should mention this, but to my ears “Mad World” was a little pitchy in spots, which surprised me.

Let me also thank everyone for posting these videos, a very nice surprise to wake up to this morning.

Top 10 Things that the Audience Does When Idols ‘Slow it Down’

    Bravo Kirsten!!! :lol_tb:

  • terraj

    @Kristen, that was hilarious

From the YouTube sources, his version of Starlight seems like a song that should be appreciated from a slight distance with full view of the galaxy backdrop. The seattletimes video doesn’t do it justice, but the homemade fan video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cb-ARgw3D8E is awesome. My favourite vocal from him to t

I agree that Mad World sounded pitchy from YouTube (which would be a first because he has nailed all his performances of that song so far) but from the audience reports I read there were some major sound issues going on at the arena so it’s hard to critique.

I LOVED LOVED The Bowie renditions. My favourte Bowie song is Life on Mars and I am thrilled that he was covering that one.

  • Mary102

It’s not just the critics who love Adam, apparently the audience did too. I’m sure in different venues, the audience will love Kris more than Adam.

Agreed. I think it depends on what town you’re in, in terms of popularity. The hometown people (Kris in Arkansas, for instance) are gonna get mad love from the crowd, to be sure.

And just a quick note on Adam’s weight – I think it fluctuates a bit, just because of his body type, etc. Certain people are like that. I’ve never thought he looked fat though, and at times he does look ridiculously skinny. He definitely seems to fluctuate within a very short amount of time though. Again, just his body type most likely.

  • JazzRocks

Thanks for all the links. It’s all so exciting. Sounds as though the entire show is good, but my focus is on Adam. Starlight was vocally & visually stunning! I thought it was perfect – no tweaking needed.

  • Anya

Kris’ fans got on Brian Mansfield’s case for the non-review of his perf. This is BM response burried in the comments. Sorry if it was posted already.

“Actually, it’s not really a review (well, I guess it sorta is, but … ). Tonight, it’s a real-time blog, where I’m typing as fast as my fingers will let and am not really filtering the way I normally would if I could spend thinking about the shape of what I’m writing. It’s pure gut reaction. If I’d pre-written it, I’d have been much nicer to Kris, because he did a fine job with his performances. But, man, that “No Boundaries” song is Kryptonite. I hope nobody holds it against him for having to sing it on tour, and I’d lay down cash money that he wishes he didn’t have to. (On the other hand, I guess having to sing it beats not winning American Idol.) Being able to bring an audience back around after that song the way Kris did is, in its own way, a feat as remarkable as anything Adam did.”

  • jpfan

    From what I can deduce:

    1. A very entertaining show by All the Idols. There didn’t seem to be a mass exodus for the bathroom at any point in the evening. Even Sarver sounded good to my ears.

    2. I didn’t hear any boos for Gokey during the loud cheers/screams.

    3. Adam puts on a great show. Listening to him and not seeing him doesn’t carry the same punch. He needs to keep the jacket on or do some more sit ups. I don’t think his bod is all that.

    4. Kris suffers not jusing coming after Adam but high energy sets from Allison and Danny.

    5. Even though most of the commenters here this Adam is IT, all the Idols have their fans and it’s not a One Man show.

  • spring2009

Just noticing while watching some of the video that is up – Adam spends a whole lot of time effing around with those ear pieces….

  • jonoave

Just absolutely had to comment for Kirsten: You rock!

They should paste the list of suggestion at every Idol tour arena. :P

  • oceana

Adam was very sexy doing Fame. Loved Slow Ride.

    Allison – Cry Baby

    Allison – Barracuda
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4e0giObqBvw (far away but good sound)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYeVW7lbXZ0 (close up but poor sound)

Allison is awesome! To me, she steals the show.

  • Mary102

Next up, it’s No Boundaries, but it’s not getting anywhere near the level of reaction that Heartless did. In fact, people are starting to sit down. It’s just inexcusable that the Idol winner has to include a song that elicits that kind of reaction. It’s a set killer. I’d heard the studio version of No Boundaries just enough since the Idol season ended that I’d almost decided it was benign, but Kris has to be royally ticked that he’s been shackled to this ball and chain.

Just read the USA Today review – too bad about NB = I kind of felt the same way about Cook having to sing Time of My Life last year, and that was a MUCH better song than NB.

I remember thinking to myself, after Adam didn’t win, that, well, at least he wouldn’t have to sing NB. At moments like this, that truth becomes all the more apparent.

  • mahrikka

Wow, what a way to start the morning! Thanks for all the videos, photos and recaps. I appreciate all of them, and I’m looking forward to a great show. But, Adam, OMG, you kill me! It’s a good thing I only have to wait until Friday.

  • JudyOhio

Adam looked heavier than usual, but maybe that’s because I’ve been watching Michael Jackson all week. :ponder_tb:

  • isisdagmar

Adam puts on a great show. Listening to him and not seeing him doesn’t carry the same punch.

I definitely don’t think this is true–at least not in the way that I think you mean it. Adam is a very gifted performer and brings more to the table on that front than most artists do–the experience of watching him live is unusually exciting. But his vocals on their own are stunning, and the popularity of his studio version of songs indicates that people love listening to him as much as they love watching him. The performance skills are a terrific bonus–but it’s the voice and interpretive skills that draw people to him most of all. A good parallel would be Bowie: Bowie puts on an amazing show and the experience of actually seeing and hearing him live is like none other (so I’ve heard–I’ve never done it personally)–but his CDs are insanely amazing on their own.

  • Ellie2

I thought Adam looked and sounded amazing. And I hope he keeps taking off the jacket and rocking the black shirt all the way until August 30th, when I see him in KC!

  • Chipmunk

Kris’ fans got on Brian Mansfield’s case for the non-review of his perf.

All these rabid, knee jerk reactions from fans to people’s blogs when the reviews arent so great to their idols are so comical.

There are 50 shows, there will be good and bad reviews for all of them, different writers/different perspectives……….this is just the first day, and already it’s started.

    It’s gonna be a long summer :razz_wp:

  • lizzy12345

Would love to see some video of Danny’s My Wish. I listened to Rickey’s cellcast last night and Danny brought down the house with that song. The applause were deafening. I was so happy to hear that ALL of the Idols received lots of love from the crowd last night. Rushfield from LA Times said Danny’s voice could fill three arenas.

  • flicker

    5. Even though most of the commenters here this Adam is IT, all the Idols have their fans and it’s not a One Man show.

Adam puts on a great show. Listening to him and not seeing him doesn’t carry the same punch.

So far, I have listened without watching to get an opinion without the sexiness.. and I love love love it.. The new songs, Starlight and the Bowie medley are amazing..

  • oceana

Every year, the coronation song is atrocious. I think David Cook did the best with his of anyone. And it was a better song to begin with than NB.

Clay’s This is the Night wasn’t too bad, or Kelly’s A Moment Like This, but AI shows their poor taste year after year and won’t budge on the coronation song. Fools.

  • Jx223

I thought that Matt’s “Hard To Handle” performance was pretty entertaining. He is a very talented pianist. I am looking forward to seeing his performance of “Georgia”, I think that will be a pretty good performance too.

I thought that Anoop did a pretty good job with “Always on My Mind”, and I am glad to see that he was pushing himself more vocally than he did, at different times on the show. If though the cellcast’s sound was pretty crummy, I could hear Anoop better than I could hear some of the other contestants on the cell cast. I think that his version of “Mad” will probably be pretty good too.

I thought that Danny looked and sounded good. He looks like he has lost some weight, and been working out more. He has really nice arms. And his voice sounds good in his “What Hurts The Most” performance. Looking forward to seeing the rest of his performances.

  • Ellie2

I think Adam is equally brilliant whether you’re watching or just listening. I’ve been listening to his version of Starlight while doing other things and I’m totally mesmerized. And I’ve watched his Bowie medley about 20 times already. That boy does things with his hips that should be illegal….

  • oceana

I’ve listened to without watching starlight for numerous times. Love it. They should put the tour songs in a CD. It will sell.

  • Chipmunk

From the reviews they all did really well, especiallly Adam, Allison and Kris.

And I give a fuck not whether Adam takes his jacket off or leaves it on…his set is great, he moves great, he sounds great, just awesome……..

The only thing i’d change is that glittery denim mess

  • oceana

Adam is very cool, but his voice overall is too high for my tastes. Kris seemed kind of quiet for that stage, I think he’ll be better in more intimate settings. Allison is the breakout star this season for me. Also, unlike most of the others, she never seems to hit a bad note or a false moment. She has unerring instincts. Whereas from what I saw of Adam’s numbers, they were sometimes hit and miss, and with his many more years of experience, I expected more perfection from him. Allison is amazing to me. She reminds me of Joss Stone, a phenom.

p.s. Danny’s What Hurts the Most sounds so corny to me, but then again I don’t like Rascal Flatts either.

  • Renina

“The Idol groove continued with a charismatic Matt Giraud, who got the crowd moving with his piano-pounding version of Otis Redding’s ‘Hard to Handle,’ then paid tribute to another soul great with an outstanding ‘Georgia on My Mind,’ giving his elastic voice the full workout, from raspy growl to falsetto.”-Rolling Stone review.

Wott!! Go Matt, Go Matt, Go Matt :clap_tb:

I noticed that, but I think his heavy look in this set is from the clothes worn..because before(during his backstage interview with lil) and after the show(When they came out to meet the fans) he doesnt look anywhere near as heavy as in some of the stage pics.

Thanks for posting this link. I agree it was better than the Seattle Times video. And thank’s oceana for those additional Alison clips.

I only have found the short clip of WLL – quality is not so great. Hopefully, there is a better video somewhere:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4zUze92uYQ

    1. I watched all but one of the clips — in order. (No I am not watching NoBo — no matter how much I like Kris.) I agree with the comment above that it was tough to cool back down to Kris level after Alison – Danny – Adam.

    2. I’m pleased that everyone got (and deserved) a really great reception from the audience and that FanWars stayed out of the arena.

    3. From everything I have read and heard, Danny got a great audience response, and do not take this as a dis of Danny, BUT the huge applause after Danny’s last performance and the screaming was mostly for Adam. If you read the online comments, or listen to the crowd, you can even hear people screaming “Adam”.

    4. The Bowie medly was amazing. Adam’s performance was great and the arrangment of “Let’s Dance” was updated but respectful. Amazing way to end his set. Looks like WLL was also very HOT! I still haven’t seen whole thing.

    5. Adam looks great in the black sleeveless T and the jacket was amazing. The outfit he wore at the end was just OK for me.

    6. Kris looks great in black shirt at the end. I think he should loose the plaid shirt — I would love to see him in a black sleeveless T — Maybe he could go shopping with Adam!

    7. The closing number was a bit cheesey but fun. It must have been amazing to see Kris and Adam rise up on the lift at the end.

  • Squirrely

Speaking of Adam’s weight – this just popped in my inbox

i definitely do not think adam is fat. water, greens and whole grains??? dudes gonna pass out in the middle of his set! you can’t absorb protein just by wearing lots of leather!

i do agree that maybe the shirt wasnt all that flattering at times. i think it is the way that it hangs and clings to him. plus he has a penchant for the tight pants which gives even the skinniest of people a bit of a muffin top. he just needs to work a little on tone, but even if he didnt do a damn thing i think he is smokin hot.

and i totally feel it just by listening to him. starlight has been on repeat for hours now and i can’t get enough. i loved the original, but i LOOOOVE his version.

Yeah, I don’t get the “Adam is fat” comments at all. He is not fat. Camera angles can add pounds. But personally, I don’t think he looks even slightly heavy in any of the videos or photos from last night. And I think he looks borderline too skinny in the video interview with Lil from yesterday. He’s perfect just how he is.

Is there a full-length video of Adam’s Whole Lotta Love somewhere from the concert?

  • whyso

I’m a huge Kris fan. So that should put into perspective about what I’m going to say next…

I watched the Bowie medley and laughed out loud. I have tired to understand his appeal. I really have. I really like Adam as a person (I love Kradam) but on stage he makes me laugh with his acting like a “rockstar”. The writhing and running his hands down his body and side of his face. To me and I know it’s probably only me but it’s seems very staged, choreographed and inorganic.

Please don’t feel hurt that I’ve said this. I just want to offer a counterpoint to the “Adam is a rock god” perspective. I know this a Adam heavy website but I’ve been coming here for years and feel that providing some alternate view is important to discussion.

  • Chipmunk

He isnt fat..he’s gorgeous, but the tank top isnt very flattering from certain angles, but I dont care…….he could be strutting on the stage butt nekkid and I’d still think he’s awesome!

So what’s the next stop? I give myself a week at most, maybe 2 or 3 more concerts to follow on youtube and here, and then I’m done with this summer tour…cant watch them do the same songs all summer on youtube clips, I’d run batty!

    Oh September!

  • madefourbabies

Can’t believe that there isn’t a video circulating anywhere of Adam’s entire WLL performance…I’m dying to see it, especially since I’ve read somewhere that he does some pelvic thrusting and mic stand straddling! :devil_tb: As if after seeing his Bowie Medley I can take much more of his hotness! *drools*

I can’t comprehend why anyone would consider Adam fat. He may not be muscular and could improve on his tone, but he’s nowhere near fat. Hard body or not, Adam exudes sex appeal like no other and I’m sure most women would attest to that. :wub_tb:

In reading lots of reviews, people said they loved “Starlight”. They said Adam’s vocals were unbelievable. Some were familiar with the song and were afraid he would not do it justice, but said he did. Others had never heard the song, but said if he recorded it, they would definitely buy it. A few people said all the special lighting (stars and stuff) were not necessary because his vocals alone was so spectacular, that is all that was necessary.

None of the comments I read said he looked overweight. They said he was really gorgeous.

And you are entitled to your opinion and I don’t feel hurt. I appreciate the fact that Adam’s performance is just not your cup of tea. He will not appeal to everyone. Just as Kris won’t. At least you are giving a critique on his performance not on his look or how he talks. That is what bothers me. To me Adam is an amazing performer and I love his voice, all aspects. (rock, ballad, pop, soul) I like Kris too but his range as a performer is no where near Adam’s. But that does not mean he will not be hugely successful or that Adam will be. Just my taste. I personally will support both and respect your reasonable opinion. (even though I do not agree)

There are so many comments on Twitter about Adam’s Starlight performance from people who saw it and say it was “amazing”, “better than Muse” etc. And there are now a couple of good videos without distortion that have surfaced. It seems like the people who recorded it from the close rows got some kind of distortion — in the Seattle Times video, it’s even hard to hear the back-up electronic vocals. Yes, I would buy it if he recorded.

Didn’t Adam say in Rolling Stone the whole rock star thing is like playing dress up on Halloween? Or something similar to that?

As cheesy as TOML was/is it didn’t really kill DC’s set though, at least not the shows I attended. I have memories of the huge crowd singing along, word for word. I found it hysterical at the time until I realized people LOVE that song :laugh_tb:

  • twinkle

i’ll be honest, i do think he has an occasional celine dion-like tendency to move his arms uncontrollably…. but i think rather than being fake or staged it’s just energy that finds it’s way out of his body that way and helps him transition that vocal out. thinking about it, i would think it would be hard to spit out a huge note the way he does remaining perfectly still. but it’s probably because ive watched the videos so many times now, it is hard to imagine it any other way :)

he did give an interview yesterday, though, where he was asked whether he consciously thinks about the little gestures during performances (e.g., he was asked specifically about the little shirt raise during ROF) and he said he doesnt pre-plan it. (and the shirt raise was an accident – his finger got stuck on his shirt hehe). i think he just gets in the zone. a crazy writhing, arm flailing, sexy zone!

  • CindyM

AS far as him being staged and choreographed, I enjoy that. I don’t think it’s inorganic, that’s how Adam has performed forever. It’s who he is. Growing up in the musical theater community, interacting with his circle of friends and his innate sense of the dramatic come out in his performances. I don’t think he’s putting on a persona, his early youtube performances show that level of perfectionism and planning. Like Simon says, “it’s like asking a cow not to moo.” I think that’s who Adam is. I’m glad he makes the effort to try to perfect his performance, I think it shows a great deal of respect to the audience that he works so hard to prepare for his performances. I’ve always been the type of person that wants to attend a concert to stimulate both my audio and visual s
