Welp. The spoilers claiming the middle round of Idol would be split by age? Not true. Also, There will be a Top 13 rather than a Top 12. And you can scratch that Candice special too.

Here’s the official schedule from American Idol. The middle rounds will take ONE 3 episode week. The Top 31 will be split boy/girl with the Top 13 results airing on Thursday.  The “twist” is probably a Top 31 instead of a Top 30. ETA: The judges will each pick a wildcard bringing the finalists number to 13.

*Just wanted to mention that the spoilers were emailed to me as a full fledged Press Release, done in exactly the style and language that FOX sends out. It was very convincing. VERY convincing. The spoiler told me the release was set to come out this week.  I tacked the VERY official looking press release that was mailed to me onto the original spoiler post HERE.

UPDATE: Also, there’s the matter of that New York City spoiler possibly being true. (The Hollywood Reporter reported it AFTER we did HERE) I don’t know what to think. I’m hearing that the New York finale is defintely NOT happening.

The original music show phenomenon returns this week! Hosted by Ryan Seacrest, AMERICAN IDOL XIII features a new all-star judging panel, including Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr., along with in-house mentor Randy Jackson. Seacrest and the judges travel across the country, with stops in Atlanta, GA; Austin, TX; Boston, MA; Detroit, MI; Omaha, NE, Salt Lake City, UT; and San Francisco, CA, searching for those who have the potential to transform from an everyday singer into a successful recording artist and join the ranks of famous IDOL alumni, such as Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, Scotty McCreery and Phillip Phillips.

AUDITIONS
The two-night premiere event begins by showcasing the nation’s best talent from the Boston and Austin auditions on Wednesday, Jan. 15 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). Thursday, Jan. 16 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) brings more amazing auditions from Austin and San Francisco. NEW HOLLYWOOD OR HOME ROUND

But, even before they unpack their bags, the contestants will learn they must compete in a surprise “Hollywood or Home” round, airing on Wednesday, Feb. 5 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). In this intense new round, the judges will decide if these hopefuls really are committed and talented enough to become the next singing superstar. Some of the singers will be asked to perform one more time for the judges – and for some, this will be their last performance. It’s a tough decision for the judges, but even tougher for the contestants, because those who don’t make the cut must head straight home.

On the season’s first LIVE show, airing on a special night, Tuesday, Feb. 18 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live /PT tape-delayed), the 15 remaining female contestants will face their IDOL fates; the 15 male contestants will do the same on the following night Wednesday, Feb. 19 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live /PT tape-delayed). Just wanted to mention that the spoilers were emailed to me as a full fledged Press Release, done in exactly the style and language that FOX sends out. It was very convincing. VERY convincing. The spoiler told me the release was set to come out this week.

Also, there’s the matter of that New York City spoiler actually being true. I don’t know what to think.

  • http://www.holyhomo.com/ Rand

Hmmm, I preferred the spoilers. Bummer.

  • Roimeister

AHA! so it WAS an ELABORATE hoax… let the beatings begin! :p

  • gclay

BUT BUT BUT maybe the Candice special can still happen cause its not an official episode…please

  • fuzzywuzzy

I was wondering about the “Candice Special”, when people were tweeting her about it and she never responded.

  • perfectstorm

The Candice Glover special never made any sense considering that they never did that with winners who were much more popular than her.

  • washpd

I don’t see anything in your post about the NYC finale. Am I missing it or was it reported elsewhere?

  • Roimeister

did the Fast Pass get axed also?

  • Aakash Mansukhani

that NYC finale spoiler thing better be true man :I

  • Amy Beth

Where is the Hollywood or Home round taking place? LAX baggage claim?

  • http://www.mjsbigblog.com/ mjsbigblog
  • washpd

    Ahhh gotcha, thanks.

  • inmyslumber

Kind of bummed that there’s not going to be 30-minute results shows this season. :/ And I was hoping they’d do a Top 12, so that way only one contestant would have to go home after the save. (I know it backfired on them in S12, but still.)

  • justmefornow

Yeah, I have nothing against her, but seriously an hour special about just her was hard to believe, lol.

  • Mateja Praznik

1 Hour Results shows … so much for the changes, lol. How typical.

  • http://www.mjsbigblog.com/ mjsbigblog

I added the very official looking press release that was emailed to me to the original spoiler post. It’s at the bottom.

    http://www.mjsbigblog.com/american-idol-xiii-spoilers-entire-schedule-format-changes.htm

    Jarett Wieselman @JarettSays
Randy Jackson to host a 2-day #Idol workshop between Hollywood & live shows and then mentor week-to-week #TCA14

    TV Guide Canada @TVGuideCanada
.@AmericanIdol producers say Randy Jackson will host two-day workshop to educate kids leading into performance episodes #TCA14 #dawgpound

  • girlygirl

Except for a few minor tweaks (Hollywood or Home), this looks to be much the same as what the show has always been. Where are these so-called interesting format changes? because I’m not seeing anything all that different from what has happened in previous seasons..

And ugh to hour long results shows and to the boy/girl split. Why can’t they just advance the best contestants regardless of gender? What is so difficult about that idea?

  • Eilonwy_has_an_emu

Yeah, the fake reads convincingly… and its innovations were a lot more sweeping and interesting than the reality. #SenseOfLetDown

  • Sicola789

There was an official press release that said results shows would be cut to 30 minutes when the new show “Surviving Jack” will air for 8 weeks. So it might mean only 8 weeks of that.

  • Sicola789

I think we learned in Season 8 that the audience won’t vote for the best in the semi finals, despite the genders. Only 3 girls were voted through because they had to be and 2 others were wild carded. The other 6 that made it were all men. Some other girls like Felicia should have been there instead of Scott or Jorge.

If it was up to the audience, most of the top 12 would be men.

  • XxYogurtxX

i was always wondering if they cut the result show to 30 minutes if they would invite old idols to perform,so kind of relieved its 1 hour result show

  • fuzzywuzzy

I would have been suspicious when the phony press release claimed that JLo had won a Grammy. She hasn’t.

  • Sicola789

I don’t think anybody said the changes would be interesting lol. The Randy Jackson workshop is something new.

Plus I’m glad that the joke auditions will be cut down.

  • Eilonwy_has_an_emu

That actually would have lulled my suspicions. TV and record label promo get easily wikipedable facts wrong all the time. Being 100% accurate would have been more likely to make me think “fan hoax.” #viciouslycynical

  • Sicola789

Lol I had to chuckle a bit that somebody would take the time to make up this hoax. Whoever it was was probably laughing at their computer screen since we fell for it :p

  • fuzzywuzzy

To me, that was a pretty obvious gaffe.

  • Madilo

Maybe it was a The Voice fan lmao, why would anyone do that ugh :(
Candica not getting her special then, it would give her great exposure.

  • Mateja Praznik

How did the email address that sent you that fake press release look like?

  • Larc

I guess it could still happen, but it wouldn’t be on February 18. The official schedule shows a 2-hour Idol that night (Top 15 females performing).

  • Sassycatz

I’m sure she’ll get a performance spot, though. And I wonder if they’ll have an official boot song? Maybe she’ll sing that as well.

  • http://www.mjsbigblog.com/ mjsbigblog

They’ve already scheduled a half hour comedy in the slot, so they are really planning on 30 minute results shows. Just not the first one.

  • http://www.mjsbigblog.com/ mjsbigblog

There was a name, sent from an Outlook address.

  • http://www.mjsbigblog.com/ mjsbigblog

Yeah, they do get stuff wrong. And they exaggerate. Jlo has been nominated, at least.

  • Jenn

theres nothing in the press release that says anything about the idol finale being in nyc which if it were true they would have announced that so where do u get that is still true?

  • http://twitter.com/ElizabethThe Elizabeth Rosalyn

I knew it was way too good to be true. They should invite her as the first guest performer, but at this rate, who knows if they’ll even do that…

  • http://www.mjsbigblog.com/ mjsbigblog

TWO DAYS AFTER I reported it, The Hollywood Reporter reported it from a source. It then entered the news cycle.

    http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/idol-worship/american-idol-finale-be-held-669732

I better add this to the post. This is the second time I’ve addressed it here in comments, for people not reading through the comments first.

  • Larc

I was so happy about the idea they would have a special for Candice that I didn’t stop to think they haven’t done it for any other winners. It would look a lot like favoritism.

  • http://twitter.com/ElizabethThe Elizabeth Rosalyn

It’s a great idea that they should have implemented years ago for every winner. At the very least, Idol should continue to promote their own home-grown stars by inviting alum back every week to sing on the results shows, or maybe even mentor the contestants if they’re up for that.

  • Jenn

oh im sorry that u actually have to do your job. I know it must be a lot of work for you to answer questions that people have about your false information all the time. the least you can do is answer without ,making nasty comments.

  • Incipit

This is interesting; now I see it has its own post – moving my comment there

  • ANNIEBA

Good god, they still can’t get rid of Randy.

  • Kesia Monteith

I guess my thing is now, what about that debacle for the 13th performing contestant? So now that their are 15 in both guys and girls, how would they address that? Something tells me some contestants may leave before they are voted on, during the night they perform….

  • http://www.mjsbigblog.com/ mjsbigblog

Sorry if that came off as nasty. Just pointing out that I had already answered the question right here in comments.

I don’t want to answer it anymore, so I made my response part of the original post.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I read during her #Idolblitz sessions that when a fan asked if Candice was going to perform on Idol this season, Candice responded “Maybe”. This doesn’t sound promising.

  • Amy Beth

MJ have you considered that THR also got fake spoilers or that they used what you posted, without attribution?

  • http://www.mjsbigblog.com/ mjsbigblog

Shirley is based in Los Angeles and has real contacts at the show. She wouldn’t just repeat a blog report verbatim without corroborating it with her own sources.

The report reads like she talked to her own sources.

Looking back at her report, she updated it. Now, there are two sources that contradict each other. So who knows.

  • Incipit

Heh. Randy must have extensive Black Files on everybody, by now. *snerk*

  • ANNIEBA

Yup, he must have some serious dirt, lol.

  • fuzzywuzzy

“Looking back at her report, she updated it. Now, there are two sources that contradict each other. So who knows.”

I’m guessing that the MSG finale isn’t true. The Nokia theatre has a capacity of 7,100, and it’s hard to imagine the Idol finale pulling in 18,000 at MSG.

  • http://www.mjsbigblog.com/ mjsbigblog

The MSG finale may not be true, but it’s easy to reconfigure a stage so that it looks fuller than it is.

I attended the X Factor auditions at an arena in Providence with a 12,400 seat capacity. It was completely retrofitted for the show, for far fewer attendees.

On television, the space seemed completely full.

  • Niall

It’s sad when a hoaxster has better ideas than the show itself.

I’m still hoping the NYC thing is true. I haven’t checked to see if MSG is booked on those dates.

  • Sicola789

Maybe they will completely revamp their phone numbers or it will just be online voting for the week.

  • Sicola789

Even on a bad season, they have no problem selling out the finale venue.

  • nycguy

No other winner had their first release in the middle of the season.

  • maymay

In February, Idol will face the Winter Olympics` challenge. Did the Olympics hurt S5 and S9 ratings during February?

On the other hand, 30 minutes result show airs at totally the same time for The Big Bang Theory. It is not a smart idea. FOX should move the result show to 9:00 PM if it want to set the only 30 minutes result show.

  • b_james

Wow. I’m bummed about the NYC part not happening. I know it would’ve basically killed the contestants, but it could’ve been a cool twist.

Also not feeling the fact that they are going from 15 guys and 15 girls to only FIVE of each at once. 20 to 10 was hard enough! Those contestants better pray for lots of screen time or a pimp spot.

  • XxYogurtxX

so lyndsey tweeted there is a candice special I’m confused?

  • Gameplaya

Im a very sad Glovernator right now,i was looking forward to that “supposed” 1 hour special….oh well

  • DCAIfanHelsinki

In the above text it seems that the live result shows would still be an hour long. MJ, do you have further information on that? I haven’t had time read all comments and now I have to go to sleep… I hope the result shows would remain one hour long because I’d love to see and hear former winners, runner ups and contestants. Very few of them are included in the finale show.

  • Montavilla

Well, Scott wasn’t terrible — and the best girls were all put into Group 2 — which ended up advancing five people (Kris, Adam, Allison, Matt, and Megan). Scott was kind of a no-brainer to advance, because of the novelty of a blind contestant. And his only real problem was that his performances were kind of sleepy.

Jorge was the only contestant to make the semi-finals from the Puerto Rico auditions. That might have given him the edge, since sometimes locals rally behind a home-town hero.

And in Season 3, where the same kind of system was used, the women outnumbered the men in the finals: eight women to four men.

  • Julie S.

Hasn’t a lot of this schedule been debunked by the official press releases? Like no Candice show and no semifinals by ages, but by male/female as usual?

  • Porfivor Nixon

She was probably hoping it was true, too. But sometimes when it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t.

  • Porfivor Nixon

Yeah, that was odd but she’s also the first winner to not have her album out during the biggest selling months before Christmas, so I thought it might be their way of trying to make things right and make up for it.

  • http://www.mjsbigblog.com/ mjsbigblog

Did you actually read the post? It IS the official press release.

  • http://www.mjsbigblog.com/ mjsbigblog

There’s a new FOX sitcom scheduled for Thursday’s at 8:30 beginning sometime in March. it was announced earlier this month. So yes, half hour result shows are still a thing.

  • jpfan2

I think the tip off was the Candice one hour special. Made no real sense.

  • Julie S.

Apologies, I meant to put this comment on the other post – http://www.mjsbigblog.com/american-idol-xiii-spoilers-entire-schedule-format-changes.htm, which is still coming up high in search when you look for American Idol schedule. But there are NO corrections on that post or retractions. So it is very confusing. You should put a retraction or correction on that post.

  • Kenneth Chow

How is the semi-finals gonna work…is it 15 girls perform…then 5 go through and the same for the boys…then judges pick the 3 more people as wildcards…how are they gonna get through 15 people in 2 hours???/…and what happened to the Fast Past and judges choosing…and isn’t going from 30 to 13 a bit too much…that is more than half…are they going to have 15 girls perform and the judges pick which 10 or 8 face the public votes and same goes for the boys…i’m still unclear about this works
