The American Idol 10th Anniversary – The Hits: Volume 1 CD is now available everywhere.  It’s a collection of the best music (arguably) from Idol contestants of the last 9 seasons.

All the winners are represented, plus a few popular runners-up like Clay Aiken and Adam Lambert. And, of course,  what would a collection like this be without  successful 4th place finisher Chris Daughtry.

Yes. I would have included David Archuleta’s “Crush” if I had picked the track list. But I digress.

Wiki shows that Lee sold 44,000 of SS.

    Here’s what I think happened:
    a. They had an obligation to include a song from each winner, no matter how successful (or not successful) they were.
    b. 9 songs makes for a pretty thin compilation, so they had other factors to consider, such as popularity of other runners-up, fanbases, sales, etc.
    c. As indicated, this is Volume One, which presumably means there will be a Volume TWO. My guess is that Two will not include, shall we say “less successful” Idol winners (not naming names, I want to avoid fanwarring as does MJ), and will have more tracks from the Carries and Kellys, etc., plus other runners-up left off this one, such as Archuleta, Jennifer Hudson, Crystal, maybe Kellie Pickler or Josh Gracin?

I heard that RCA compiled the track list leaving off Crush (Jive). One more reason why I am not wasting my money in this low economy. I am sure if this album doesn’t sell well, they won’t make the volume 2. Why couldn’t they compile the most selling ‘HIT’ songs from American Idol alums? Kelly has several biggest hit songs and Carrie, Daughtry, too. It would sell better if they collected the most popular hit songs instead of songs from 9 winners and RCA idols.

Is the Wiki page for AI singles not complete and accurate? It shows Clay’s “Invisible” as selling 104,000 units. I’m just surprised considering how many albums Clay and Ruben sold, they sold very little singles.

It was an album market back then, rather than a digital market, so it makes sense to me.

Invisible was not available for download until after June 2008. You could not even buy the complete MOAM album on itunes or amazon until then.

might be cool for people like my mom/sister who live outside the Idol bubble and haven’t really bought any Idol music. Is it available in physical form?

tierbee: yes it is according to the Amazon page. It’s $8.59 there. I clicked on the music sampler and the songs are represented in varying degrees. (ex. Cook’s showcases the chorus of LO, but LLWD never gets to the chorus). There is a total fail for Ruben—in the 30 second snippet, he never even sings! It’s all strings and syrupy instrumental.

I wonder how much promo the show will give to this compilation? I think it’s a nice idea and will consider buying it since I only own the last 3 songs and I’ve been wanting Carrie’s BHC. We’ll see…I might just cherry pick on itunes!

I know it’s not exactly “mainstream,” but former contestants like Mandisa, Chris Sligh, and Phil Stacy have had a lot of success in the Christian music market. They have some songs that aren’t “as religious” as others and they should be considered, too…

  • mmb

Wish they had chosen one of Jordins other hit singles instead of no air. There was no need to include chris brown on the compilation when jordin had other top ten platinum sellers like Tatoo or ( my personal favorite) Battlefield

there are some decent songs on this album but the absence of CRUSH (which hovers at around double-platinum) is so glaring it kind of diminishes the whole premise. and if it’s not RCA picking the songs than how can anyone justify CRUSH not being on there? i love Archie so maybe i’m taking it too personally. but no thanks, i’ll save my money.

    That’s gonna be volume 5.

CRUSH should have been on it but I really don’t care. I would never buy this CD anyway even if CRUSH was on it and I am a big Archie fan. They should just forget about Vol. II.

    Crush should be on it

    HAPPY 10th bday AI

I still can’t believe they left out Crush. Jordin is Jive and CB isn’t even an idol yet it’s included.

    I’ve bought Ruben’s, Clay’s, Fantasia’s, and George’s cd’s. No reason to buy this.

I’m patiently waiting for David news :)

This CD was just promoted on the E News. They showed Carrie, Kelly, Daughtry and Adam.
