Alicia Keys Croaks Her Way Through A Greatest Hits Medley (VIDEO)

Yesterday’s NBA All-Star game (Feb 17) featured pop singer, Alicia Keys, as the entertainment. From what I’ve seen online, the performance has sparked a Beyonce vs Alicia fan war.

But it’s like shooting fish in a barrel.  Beyonce may not have sung as much during her well received Superbowl half time appearance, but her set was super high energy, and she was in fine voice.

I don’t know whats going on here, but Alicia looks like she’s falling asleep (OK, an exaggeration, but c’mon step it up–IT’S A HALFTIME SHOW) as she croaks her way through a medley of her well-known hits.

I wasn’t watching but heard it. Half way thru my family just gave up on the whole thing and turned the tv off.  Terrible.  Just terrible.

Alicia Keys isn’t necessarily a “pop singer”. She almost exclusively makes R’n’B music, doesn’t care about the commercial aspect and is overall a better artist/singer-songwriter than Beyonce is.

‘Yawn’ this one diva vs another is so yesterday. Or it should be. Beyonce and Alicia are totally different performers. Alicia has always had issues vocally. IMHO. What’s the story here? Another opportunity to put folk and their fans against each other? Yay!

  • Tinawina

She’s always been a shaky live singer. Oh, Alicia. SMH.

LMAO @ the fanwar. Really people? Cna’t they both be just good at what they do? Ugh.

  • forwarddad

She sounded sick . Perhaps the lethargy was due to cold /cough medicine?

  • Lovesyesha

Yikes! If I were her I would get my voice checked out because it honestly sounds like she has developed vocal nodules or a cyst. This is really rough and quite hard to listen to IMO.

  • David??[08-09????]

She sounded pretty great on Ellen. So I think she must had some issues that day

I too think maybe there’s something wrong with her voice/vocal chords. She didn’t use to sound to rough, but lately it’s always been like that. Especially her VH1 Storytellers episode, which didn’t sound very good. It’s unfortunate, because I think she has one of the best voices out there.

This Grammy performance was one of my favorites from her:

For her sake I hope she has been singing properly, because If you don’t you can damage your voice permanently. It does sound like she has a cold though.

I’ve always thought Alicia keys was a horrible live singer. She’s a hit and miss, sometimes she does well for some live performances, others I just want to take a Valium and knock her out.

Alicia is trying to be Beyonce, from past performances.  Like the time she stood on the piano and danced!  Oh no, Alicia — that’s not your style.  Your style is to sit at the piano and sing along.  I also think there’s pressure on her to sell records, as IF she needs to.  She’s rich.  She doesn’t need to compete with these other singers.  She’s a songwriter.

I know Alicia is coming to the United Ctr in Chicago and it seats from 10-20K, but I don’t think she can fill it.  Beyonce is coming later and SHE CAN fill that stadium.

Yea, Alicia lost her great voice she once had. What a Shame.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I thought that I remembered Alicia singing really well live a while ago (even though I don’t follow her). It’s too bad if she’s lost her voice.

  • Chris

Wait, I thought when Beyonce lip synced everyone said they would rather hear a rough live performance than a perfect lip sync??

    Careful what you wish for…

Alicia is live, but clearly in rough voice. I’ve seen her quite a few places, Superbowl, award shows, so she’s probably due for a vocal break.  “This Girl is on Fire!” has been everywhere and probably strips her voice if not done properly.

I thought Alicia was the dignified type.  JLo can’t sing either, but she’s a natural in this kind of thing, whatever it’s called.
