Idol Headlines for 8/16/13

Angie Miller enters the post-‘Idol’ fray – When Angie Miller opted to sing her self-penned original “You Set Me Free” instead of one of the better-known songs pre-cleared for performance during the high-pressure Hollywood week of this season’s “American Idol,” she knew it was a huge risk. But the 19-year-old Beverly native approached it from a strategic standpoint: “I wanted to be able to show the world that I could play piano,” she says, “and I didn’t want to learn something [I didn’t know] real quick.” – Read more at Boston.com

Beverly’s Angie Miller is ready to shake up her image – “‘American Idol’ pegged me as a Disney princess who sung rock stuff,” Miller said ahead of Monday’s “American Idol” Live tour stop at Agganis Arena. “Sure, I am always this bubbly, happy person, but I’m not some perfect princess. The show showed off a lot of my personality, but there’s still a lot more to me.” After the “Idol” tour, which also hits Connecticut, Rhode Island and New Hampshire this week, Miller plans to record and release a solo album. ‘American Idol’ Candice Glover at Nassau Coliseum on first tour – “I always love waving at the dancing kids, so that’s always fun,” Glover said backstage at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale Thursday, before the “American Idol Live” show. “It’s so surreal to know that I looked up to people like Jazmine Sullivan, Jennifer Hudson and Whitney Houston. Scott MacIntyre will kick off a Kickstarter campaign – NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Scott MacIntyre captured America’s hearts back on season eight of American Idol with not only his powerful voice but his inspiring story. “I’ve overcome a lot with blindness and kidney failure before Idol. I wouldn’t be where I am today without holding on to hope.” Scott says. Hope is what he wants to spread with his next album. It doesn’t have a title and the songs aren’t selected yet, because he’s leaving every single decision up to his fans. “They are the reason I am here today and I am hoping they are the reason this will be my best album yet.” – See the Video at FOX Nashville

Simon Fuller Doubles Down in Sports Management – Fuller has added Wimbledon champion Andy Murray and Formula 1 racer Lewis Hamilton to his XIX Entertainment client roster, seeing them join the likes of the Beckhams, Annie Lennox, Steven Tyler and Carrie Underwood. While Fuller has been involved in sports and music since the ’90s, it’s his constant presence in the Murray family box at tennis matches, and his rumored courting of Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins and golf pro Rory McIlroy, that suggests he thinks sports is where it’s at. The 53-year-old Fuller has been responsible for softening Murray’s image, making him more likable to the public. Reports suggest Fuller’s management of the tennis pro could boost the Scot’s fortune from $49 million to $300 million. – Read more at Variety
