David Cook’s Older Brother Adam Dies

Adam Cook, a married father and lawyer from Terre Haute, Indiana, died on Saturday while undergoing another round of chemotherapy to treat the deadly disease, which had reportedly spread to his spine.

“David is beyond the most courageous young person I have ever known, ” said Jeff Kolodin, co-chair of the charity race, which benefits the National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure, according to People. Cook’s team was the top fundraiser for the annual event, totaling more than $98, 000 in pledges out of the race’s total $2 million.

“Idol” judge Paula Abdul told People that Adam Cook was part of the show’s “extended family, ” saying he “supported his brother wholeheartedly, even through his own fight. My heart goes out not only to David, but his family as well.”

Fellow judge Simon Cowell also had kind words for the family, telling the magazine, “I was incredibly saddened to hear the news. I met Adam Cook a few times at ‘American Idol.’ He was an incredible guy, and right now my thoughts are with David and his family.”

No Idol worship for nice guy David Cook at Sunfest, just a show that’s easy to like

When David Cook sang David Lee Roth on Saturday night at Sunfest, with the American Idol champ covering Van Halen’s Hot for Teacher, it was a good moment to reflect on the differences between rock stardom then and now.

Cook, 26, is the approachable guy who toiled in bands and worked as a bartender until he signed up for a televised talent competition. Roth, of course, is Roth — an imperial showman who in his Van Halen heyday took worship as his due.

Michael Johns: I’d Kiss Susan Boyle

Although Susan Boyle admits she was just joking when she said she’s never been kissed, former American Idol star Michael Johns is happy to do the honors.

“I already said I’d kiss her myself if I ever saw her, ” the Australian singer told Usmagazine.com at the L.A. premiere of Wolverine Tuesday.

The Scottish singing sensation — who is favored to win Britain’s Got Talent — has gotten as much attention for her frumpy look as she has for her voice.

“As a person that loves music — when did you have to be good looking to be a good singer?” Johns, 30, tells Us. “It doesnt matter what you look like. Idol’s proven it doesn’t matter what you look like. If you can sing, America will vote for you. Susan Boyle is a good story, I like that.”

Review: Jennifer Hudson and Robin Thicke at Nokia Theatre

Jennifer Hudson and Robin Thicke shared a few things Saturday night at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live: a band, a semiformal approach to fashion and, of course, an audience. Bringing their national tour to the city where Thicke grew up the son of entertainers and Hudson became an “American Idol” finalist and movie star, the pair proved complementary though the less ostentatiously talented Thicke threatened to outshine his young queen of a co-headliner, offering a stronger show if not as many out-of-the-park high notes.

With this tour, Hudson’s first and the most prominent for Thicke, both rising stars hope to establish themselves as mainstays of hot adult R&B. That’s the realm of royalty like Patti LaBelle, Lionel Richie and the late Luther Vandross, musicians whose fans still prefer albums to ringtones and are willing to pay the baby-sitter to go to concerts with their spouses. Thicke and Hudson, both of whom have a knack for old-fashioned showbiz, fit in well there.

Weekend Edition Saturday, May 2, 2009 – If you’re not among the tens of millions of people who watch American Idol each week, now is as good a time as any to meet Elliott Yamin from Season 5.

His warm, self-effacing personality, mixed with his awesome pipes ‘ and his love for his mom ‘ won over fans of the show. As for the singing part, he covered R&B classics from Donny Hathaway to Stevie Wonder, and that flavor runs throughout his new album, Fight for Love.

Jay-Z Says His Concert With Kelly Clarkson Shows Racial Unity

As odd as it may have been to see a bill featuring Kelly Clarkson, Third Eye Blind and Jay-Z, it’s even stranger to see a blog post from Jay-Z.

Jay admitted that he doesn’t use Twitter, but he managed to post a blog for RapRadar.com following his performance Thursday evening at the University of Arizona. The MC said he was caught up in the excitement of the moment, as well as the technical difficulties, and he missed the opportunity to say something important.

“On the show as well were Third Eye Blind and Kelly Clarkson … I thought that had to be the oddest pairing ever, but soon realized it’s what I’ve always professed. There’s NO such thing as Black music or White music only Good or Bad music.”

Now even congressional spouses subject to scrutiny

Are congressional spouses dangerous? Anyone who was at Thursday’s Congressional Club luncheon with first lady Michelle Obama might be forgiven for thinking as much.

Mrs. Obama was warmly received by the 2, 000-odd attendees, but the biggest cheer of the afternoon was for Paul Pelosi, husband of Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the only male at the head table.

“American Idol” star, Blake Lewis, from co-chair Julie Reichert’s home state of Washington, performed. The 2009 charity recipient from the luncheon was the Pediatric Interim Care Center, The Newborn Nursery, which provides care for babies prenatally exposed to drugs.

Handicapping the remaining 5 ‘Dancing With the Stars’ competitors

One week after “Dancing With the Stars” opened this season, I handed an editor a sealed envelope predicting which three contestants would be in this battle to the end. And now I reveal my scores: Gilles Marini, Melissa Rycroft and Lil’ Kim. And if Rycroft’s ribs heal up enough for her to continue, I’ll be right. But that may be a tall order: Rib injuries make it an ordeal to breathe, let alone do the Lindy hop.

Shawn Johnson Ready to Be Aggressive, Says Bruno Will Never Sniff Her Clothes

She’s guest-starred on The Secret Life of the American Teenager, but Shawn Johnson’s acting skills will really be put to the test on Dancing with the Stars Monday when she tackles the intense paso doble. “I’m a little nervous because I’m not a very angry person, ” Johnson tells TVGuide.com. Her work doesn’t stop there as she also has the perky quickstep on her plate. See what else the Olympic champ has to say about her progress, who she’s in a Twitter war with and what she thinks about injured stars getting judged on their rehearsals.

‘Dancing”s Melissa Rycroft ‘Working Through the Pain’

Melissa Rycroft exclusively gives ET the latest update on her injured ribs, and she reveals her secrets to working through the pain while rehearsing not one, but two dances for tonight’s “DWTS”!

As Melissa and pro partner Tony Dovolani practice their two new routines, the Viennese waltz and the samba, Melissa admits to ET that she’s still hurting from the hairline fractures to her ribs. But, she says, nothing is cracked or broken and the fractures will gradually heal on their own.

“This week, the difference with practice is that we can do things, and if it hurts a little bit, it’s okay, ” Melissa says. “I mean, it’s fine — grit your teeth and move on.”
