After leaving his job at FOX at the end of June, as president of alternative entertainment, Mike Darnell has landed on his feet. He is in final talks to join Warner Bros Television, where he’ll be president of unscripted and and alternative entertainment, reports The Wrap.
Sounds pretty identical to his job at FOX, where he oversaw reality programs like American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance.
But here’s the rub. The new job puts him in charge of unscripted programming for Warner Horizon which produces NBC’s singing competition, The Voice. You know, the show that beat American Idol in the ratings this past spring. DUN DUN DUN.
When he announced that he was leaving FOX in late May, it sounded as if he wanted a new challenge. “… the world has changed drastically over the last few years and now with hundreds of channels and limitless ways to watch television, I’ve decided this was the perfect time to take advantage of the rapidly changing marketplace,” he said.
But it looks like he’s picking up his toys and taking them to a new playground, making me thinking he really WAS pushed from his position at FOX. Hm.
