As rumored, actor Charlie Sheen, revealed he was HIV-positive on the Today show Tuesday morning. He’s speaking up to stop the rumors and set the story straight. He learned his status about 4 years ago after cluster headaches, migraines and night sweats sent him to the hospital.
In the four years since he’s known, Sheen claims to have payed millions to extortionists who threatened to expose him. He also claims to have been honest with his sexual partners regarding his status. He’s only had unprotected sex with two partners who both knew he was HIV-positive, Sheen said. He’s not sure how he contracted the virus.
In the second segment, Sheen’s personal doctor joined the discussion. Antiviral medications have suppressed the virus. He does not have AIDS, the doctor confirms. He added that Sheen has been vigilant about taking his medication.
As far as his five children are concerned, Sheen only recently told he oldest daughter. His ex-wives, Denise Richards and Brooke Mueller have known about his diagnosis for years.
“If there was one guy on this planet to contract this, that’s going to deliver a cure, it’s me,” said Sheen.
