Here’s the official press release from Epic Records announcing the signing of X Factor alums, Chris Rene, Marcus Canty and Astro.   L.A. Reid is the chairman of Epic and will be working closely with all three.

Isn’t it an amazing coincidence that Simon and LA made this big announcement on Idol day?

INNOVATIVE CONTESTANTS FOREVER CHANGE THE MODEL FOR TALENT PLATFORMS

NEW YORK, NY – Epic Records is pleased to announce the signing of The X Factor contestants; Chris Rene, Marcus Canty and Astro. Following an exhilarating first season of the show whereby all three artists were mentored by The X Factor judge, Mr. Antonio “L.A.” Reid and became known in twitter-verse as #TeamLAReid. These recording deals place Chris, Marcus and Astro back under the leadership of the legendary music executive, Epic Records Chairman/CEO and reunites them with The X Factor winner and now Epic Recording artist Melanie Amaro.

Chris Rene
Destined to be a musician, finalist Chris Rene won over America’s hearts from day one with his inspirational story, charisma and original songs finishing third overall behind winner Melanie Amaro and runner-up Josh Krajcik. The road to success however has not been an easy one for the Santa Cruz, California native. Throughout his life Chris struggled with numerous addictions but with the support of his family and drive to change his life, made a decision to enter into rehab. With just 70 days sober under his belt Chris took a leap of faith to pursue his dream and auditioned for The X Factor performing “Young Homie” – an original song that he wrote and produced, which quickly became a fan favorite throughout the season. That original song performance of “Young Homie” garnered Chris a deserving spot in the live shows where he continued to showcase his unique talents. Rarely has an original song ever led to a spot on a talent competition. Confident in his writing, producing and vocal abilities Chris Rene then followed suit by penning and performing his second original track, “Where Do We Go From Here” garnering such fan appraisal that it saved him from elimination. Chris’ introduction of original compositions has forever altered the model for these talent platforms. Since joining The X Factor, Chris Rene has seen over 20 million views on YouTube.

“I’ve dreamt about this momentous moment my whole life and now it’s here,” says Chris. “I’m more than honored to be an Epic artist. Working with L.A. Reid ‘Big Homie’ is a dream come true. He’s a great man and I look forward to the opportunity to share my music with the world.”

Marcus Canty
Marcus Canty, the 20-year old finalist from Bowie, Maryland, began singing at the age of 5 reciting his favorite television jingles and Disney movies. Raised by his mother who first exposed him to gospel music at church, he began performing publicly at the age of 11. His grandmother exposed him to the likes of Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Donnie Hathaway, and Stevie Wonder – the musical prodigy instantly grew fond of R&B music where his passion lies. With aspirations of pursuing a career in the music industry, following High School graduation Marcus was given a two year window to make that dream a reality. Determined, he auditioned for The X Factor just shy of that two year mark and blew the judges away with his rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish.” Marcus delivered unique soul-stirring performances each week that captivated viewers across the world. Marcus Canty is a true testament that with fortitude dreams do come true.

“I am very blessed and grateful to God for the opportunity to become a part of the Epic family,” says Marcus. “I am excited about working with my mentor L.A. Reid, and I am ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work. This is history in the making, let’s go!”

Astro
Brooklyn bred 15-year old hip-hop phenomenon, Astro (Brian Bradley) rose to mainstream stardom following an impressive 10 week run on The X Factor. After making a lasting impression at his audition Astro secured his position as a prominent mainstay and kept viewers on the edge of their seats week after week with his original, prolific lyrics and high energy performances. As the only contestant to consistently write new material each week – which has never been attempted before -Astro took Grammy-nominated Eminem’s “Lose Yourself,” (a track that had previously never been covered) and made it his own. Honing his craft since the age of 10, Astro first burst onto the scene a few years back with his original composition, “Stop Looking At My Mom,” which became an instant viral sensation.

About his signing Astro says, “I’m excited to continue my journey with L.A. Reid and his staff at the new Epic Records. The first time LA saw me he said I’d be a star, and I can’t wait to get to work and prove him right. 2011 was Dope, but 2012 is gonna be Epic!”

The X Factor was created by Syco Television and is produced by Syco Television and FremantleMedia North America. Rob Wade and Siobhan Greene are executive producers for Syco Television. Cecile Frot-Coutaz, Richard Holloway and Andrew Llinares serve as executive producers for FremantleMedia North America. Globally, more than 100 million records have been sold by artists launched through The X Factor series, including over 100 No.1 singles and albums and more than 150 Top Ten records.

I always knew LA Reid had the strongest and most marketable category, so no surprise he signed all three boys.

I was hoping Drew would get a deal as well :(

If LA Reid comes back next year, all the contestants are gonna want to be on HIS team.  I feel like LA Reid chose is contestants on who he thought would be a good fit for his label, rather than “good TV”.  Kinda like that about him.

I think LA has a better eye for current talent more than Simon..and good on him for standing by his boys even after the season ended.  I’m looking forward to music from all 3. As much as I love AI, I also love R&B and Hip-Hop/Rap and all 3 are such a different change of pace from what we’ve seen on AI the last few years.

Really excited for Astro. I hope they pair him with a great producer and get some high profile feature artists. He’s the first reality contestant in a while that I’ve actually been excited about post-show.

Couldn’t care less about the other 2.

    Very exited for Astro.
Do not quite understand Marcus’ signing. But it takes all kinds of R’N'B singers to staff a po-R’N'B label, I guess.
Finally can not wait so see what they are going to do with and for Chris Rene. The thought gives me giddy excitement.
I have to assume that guy has enormous amount of “it factor”, like everybody says, because every time I see his face I can not help but jump in disbelief thinking, “oh my god, what an ugly mug that poor fella has”, and even his supporters admit that the guy can’t sing.
If TPTB do manage to make a star (or lets say a successful singles artist) out of him (and at this point I am not disregarding the possibility) I am to watching his chart progress with a sadomasochistic curiosity, like a pick into some kind of Bizarro world, where everything is so bad, it is good.

That’s the thing I liked about L.A. Reid from the beginning. I think he’s got a good eye for both talent and relevance in today’s music industry. It’s a damn shame that during the live rounds he came off as overly competitive and biased. With the competition aspect, he probably would have fit more on Idol where he wouldn’t seem to have that bias. I think he should stay, but the competition aspect between the judges needs to be simmered, and the judges need to be real and honest (Kinda like another show that starts today in a way…. What’s it called? :P )

That said, congratulations to all 3! I love Idol but I like the genres of all of the contestants L.A. had. I’m especially excited for Astro.

I love Chris Rene but for God’s sake give him some vocal lessons. I don’t really want him to have to rely on auto-tune. He’s not THAT bad a singer (I’m being generous, I know), but he could definitely use some.

If LA Reid puts in the time & effort & markets them correctly, all three could have a solid shot at having success. And the show needs this right now. They need to legitimize themselves to survive.

I’m happy for all the guys. They are all talented in their own way but i am especially happy for Marcus. He was my favorite and he was  the only reason I watched I am so excited to hear some new music from here. They can’t go wrong with La Reid he makes superstars and I am excited for all. I do think they will have to work on Marcus as far as his image and how they want to market him. With all the comparing people love to do with him they have to be careful not to market him like Jason Durelo or Neyo. I would prefer for him to be a classic r&b singer and bring the good soul music back i can only listen to old Brian McKnight and Boys 2 Men for so long .
