One Direction Make a Play For Longevity on First American Headlining Tour
U.K. boy band relies on vocal prowess and charisma to keep fan base loyal
One Direction’s stateside arrival has been an indisputable success: their March appearance on the Today show drew record numbers, their first-ever headlining tour sold out to the point of needing to add matinee performances and the group’s already recording a second album while sales for their 2013 summer tour are going strong. But the quintet, bred from the U.K.’s X Factor program, has been enjoying this status abroad since their 2010 debut. So while Americans are eagerly eating up One Direction’s boyishly preppy act for the first time, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson are working from heavily recycled material – and sometimes it showed at Saturday afternoon’s sold-out New York City performance.

X Factor fans give their verdict on new judge Geri Halliwell… with the deafening sound of boos (again)
When she first tried her luck on the X Factor panel two years ago, Geri Halliwell was booed by the audience.

And despite ITV bosses hoping she would get a better reception on the show this time around as a guest judge, it seems fans just can’t take to the former Spice Girls star.

Rather than win round the audience at the Liverpool auditions, Geri angered fans by taking a swipe at their favourite judge Gary Barlow, before criticising the singing skills of a girl band.

More than anything I am glad the Obamas are letting their daughter indulge in a typical teenage girl rite of passage – acting gaga over a bunch of singing teen age boys.

  • Anonymous

Great, probably one of my few chances to see her, and I’d have to put up with Adam Lambert in order to do so.

Glad to hear she’s on the iTunes Festival Lineup (along with Emilie Sandé, woohoo).

Actually you wouldn’t have to put up with him. Adams headlining, meaning he’ll go last. Plenty of time to leave after Rebecca. :)

I have to say I am extremely impressed with the song and video put out by Aiden Grimshaw-  much better than what I anticipated even though I did like him while he was on the show.
