Rumor: Janet Jackson to perform on the Idol Finale? (And Other Finale Rumors)

Which special guest stars will be performing on Wednesday’s American Idol 9 Season finale?  Let’s start with the RUMORS.

I’m hearing from sources that Janet Jackson is set to perform on Wednesday’s season closer.

Other rumored guest stars: Chicago, the Bee Gees and Hall and Oats have supposedly been tapped to keep the Baby Boomer demo happy.

According to the UK Daily Mail, Robin Gibb missed a flight to the US yesterday due to an altercation with airport security.  Oops. Maybe the Bee Gees won’t be performing…

And, according to Cleveland radio station @WQAL, “We are now hearing a Hall and Oates tribute… “I can’t go for that” and “You Make my dreams come true.”  Hm.

Confirmed for Wednesday’s finale:  Christina Aguilera, Carrie Underwood, Kris Allen and Enrique Iglesias will be appearing to perform their new singles.

Various Idol alumni, and maybe Paula Abdul will appear in a special tribute video to send off judge Simon Cowell.

And of course, the Top 12 will be on hand to perform and look on as either Crystal Bowersox or Lee DeWyze are crowned the new American Idol.

Who would you like to see perform on this year’s finale?   So far, except for the Idol alumni, I’m not feeling the guest stars so far…

UPDATE:: Just tweeted by Elliott Yamin, “my homie taytay hicks gets in town 2day…gonna get 2 share the stage with him again!..1st time since r idol days..can yall guess what 4 ??” Hm.

3rd Update: Idol Tracker reports that the Melissa Etheridge/Crystal Bowersox duet may be back on the table (The appearance contract Etheridge signed with Dancing With The Stars would not allow her to appear on the Idol finale)

4th Update: @Q104Rebecca “Rumor #28 Jordan Sparks to perform with Blake Lewis at the American Idol Finale!” Blake Lewis tweeted that he would not be performing on the finale.

5th Update: Who thinks there’s going to be a big musical sendoff for Simon Cowell featuring ex-Idols?

6th Update: Michael Johns tweets, “It was fun being back at the Idol finale today. Good to see some old friends. I got asked to perform on Wednesday night. Pretty excited…Can’t give too many details sorry but its going to be pretty epic”

7th update: “American Idols Top 10 perform “Schools out For The Summer” by Alice Cooper Tuesday” via @MIX1063

    I haven’t read these linked articles to find out why she’s postponing her tour, but I suppose she might not have wanted to be unfavorably compared to Adam since they would have been touring at the same time. By waiting until he’s finished, she won’t risk being outperformed by him and the inevitable reviews that would compare them. I’m not sure what her real reason is, but it’s something to consider.

    The articles just give some bullshit PR answer, but I’m pretty sure it has more to do with the poor reception her single has gotten, the meme that she’s become a copycat and is no longer relevant, and the either negative or just plain disinterested press she’s gotten after some of her frankly tone deaf interviews. I love Xtina, but she’s either been bitchy about Gaga or other artists, or waxed on about motherhood and creating life with a tone that was a bit superior and offputting rather than the woman power vibe I think she was shooting for and missed.

    I don’t think it has anything to do directly with other tours specifically, other than possibly an unwillingness to risk any more negative press if there ended up being lower than expected sales. I think they’re hoping that the movie Xtina is in with Cher that will be coming out soon will be a hit, and if she waits to tour till it’s out she might get another shot at the buzz they counted on for her just coming out of post-parental retirement that never actually happened. She’s pretty much buzz-less at this point.

    I don’t think anyone would be posponing their tour because of Adam, I am sure Xtina doesn’t give too hoots about him. And what about all the other tours that are happening at the same time as Adams, should they all chancel their tours so they wont be compared.

    Looking forward to the AI finale, looking forward to it being over!! Last year was really good and this crop of entertainers (the ones we know about so far) don’t excite me, neither do the two finalist. Last year I was excited to see who would win and was very pleased with the outcome. This year I don’t care, looking forward to season 10, hopefully they will make some good changes to the way it is run.

    I’m still not excited by any of these rumors. Even Kris will be performing one of the songs from his album I don’t like at all (yeah I know it’s the single but it’s not as good as others).

    In every other season, even S6, I’ve been excited about seeing the Top 12. I’m sorry to admit this, but I’m actually dreading the thought of seeing Lacey, Paige, Andrew, Katie, Tim and Aaron performing again. That’s half the Top 12 and to me they are all not worth listening to. Now if we had Lilly or Katelyn, I’d be feeling the opposite way.

    Crystal and Melissa could be the one performance to watch if it actually happen.

    And of course, a Crystal win would make me forget every single negative thing I’ve said about the season.

    Please give us Mellisa and Crystal. And the reason they are pushing Christinas toor back is because her comeback has been and epic failure. He single is doing horrible, she has insulted the current golden girl (Lady Gaga) and all of her album (leaked) is pretty bad.

    When Christina was on top of the world she could wipe the floor with anybody…but from everything I have read and heard she isn’t blowing the critics away with her latest efforts. Sometimes trying to reinvent yourself on each album (aka Madonna or the Beatles) works really well, but sometimes it might just be best to enhance what got you to the top…not try and compete with the new Lady on the block.

    And..just because I think its funny…my local HAC station is giving away tickets for Gaga’s March 2011 concert. Hell, that is nine months away…as fast as Singers careers go up and down that ticket might not be worth the paper it is printed on come Spring.

    I certainly think Simon deserves the tribute. Without him this show wouldn’t have been the success it is. He wasn’t pulling in that multi-million dollar pay check for doing nothing. Of course it’s going to overshadow the two finalist, but it can’t be helped. This is a giant moment for this show. The backbone of this show is leaving and it’s going to change this show forever.

    Lu, I watched season 5 AI Rewind too and started hating on Kat all over again. In her interviews she says right before top two performances she felt something pop in her throat and knew her voice was giving out. Then she pointed out that she didn’t get the note she needed to start her acapela portion of Somewhere Over the Rainbow.. It was like she was making excuses for why she lost to Taylor. It really irritated me. Not to mention her heavy eye makeup made her look like a hooker.

    I don’t get to read all the blog, so not sure if this was posted;
    but according to iTunes, it appears Lee and Crystal will only do
    2 songs. One is the winners song (gag!) and the second is Simon
    Fuller’s choice. hmmm

    I never got into the obsession with U2 or Coldplay. I didn’t like Viva la Vida the album and my favourite U2 song is ‘walk on’, i don’t like One, beautiful day or with or without you. I love Oasis and Blur much more than U2. nvm
