Monday Morning Mediabase Update: June 20-26

Three milestones this Monday Morning – but the chart doesn’t have a lot of bullets (increases in spins since last week) – just 7.

Debuting on the charts this week is Jason Castro from Season 7 of American Idol. “Rise to You” rises onto the CAC chart to hold at 50. The track appears to be from his 2013 album “Only a Mountain”. I caution you to not judge the song before you hear him sing.

Then, we switch over to X-Factor. Fifth Harmony is working their second single from “7/27” and it achieved yet another milestone this week. “All in My Head (Flex)” moved into the top 30 on Pop. Also moving into the top 30 on Pop is Zayn’s “Like I Would”. It is the second single off his debut album. The debut singles off of both their albums went to number one on Pop.

Drake continues to top the BB200 due to the power of streams. This is the 8th week “Views” has enjoyed the top of the chart and the album has presided over split charts for most of its run. This week, it is credited with 124K in equivalent albums (+2%) and 33K in pure album sales (+25%). Sales were up due to the album being on sale at many digital retailers.

The best selling album this week was from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. “The Getaway” debuts with 118K (108K in sales) and it is the band’s third number 2 album. They have 7 top 10 albums and one number one album. Beyonce’s “Lemonade” is third (49K, -13%), “Hamilton” is 4th (49K, -21%), Radiohead’s “A Moon Shaped Pool” is 5th with 48K (+1112 – it was released in physical format and to Spotify). Sales of albums alone were up 1,366% (46K).

Sixth through tenth feature YG (Rap – 38K/28K), Rihanna (37K, +1%), Twenty One Pilots (37K, +13%), Mumford & Sons 36K/34K) and Meghan Trainor (34K, +39% – featured on Today and album on sale at iTunes).
