I had the privilege to attend the Little Kids Rock Right 2 Rock Celebration on October 16 in New York City. An all-star assemblage of musicians got together to present Steven Van Zandt of the E Street Band with the “Big Man of the Year Award.”

American Idol Season 8 winner, Kris Allen, was on hand to perform on of Steven’s songs, “The Time Of Your Life.” Before the gala concert, that also featured Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Darlene Love, Tom Morello and more, he spoke with the press. He took questions from reporters first, and then later I was lucky enough to talk with Kris one on one.

Kris spilled details on his upcoming Christmas EP (I got him to spill a song!), future projects including a NEW album and more! Kris is heading into this new chapter of his life with optimism and an air of excitement. Good things are coming, people. Check it out. I’ll be posting a recap of the evening later, so watch for that.

I do hope that Kris has realistic expectations about how many people will buy the EP

If it’s a couple of guys with guitars and piano and tracking in a home studio, which makes fidelity easier to achieve, then he’s already baked in realistic expectations on the cost side and won’t need much revenue to match or exceed that.

I think it’s fun for him. I hope it will be fun for his fans.

For me, the reason Kris is doing a Christmas ep is quite simple. As mj said in her post, he really LOVES his fans. His fans have been requesting a Christmas ep since season 8. This ep is simply Kris “giving back” to his fans.  Kris has a lot of shows this month. As a fan, I appreciate his taking time out of his busy schedule to do this for me.

Okay – is there an mp3 of this performance until he records it and we can buy it?

Ah, I suppose it was ‘agnostic’ that he said. I just remember him mentioning it in an interview a few years back.

I hope Kris’s Christmas songs are released on i-Tunes elsewhere like Michael Johns did with his EP for fans! It gets really frustrating with idols on large labels whose songs are not released here in Australia but Indy artists with less restrictions are. I hope Kris now that he is free form RCA & 19 ‘s clutches can make that happen if not with the Christmas music then with his new album. You would hear me cheering all the way to LA & back!!

Thank you for the interview, MJ! I’m really excited for him and his future now.. he seems very at peace and happy about what is to come. The Christmas EP will be awesome, too.

Once these people part with their record company, they seem to be everywhere,  Much luck to him, he is a talented singer, musician and songwriter.
