Joshua Ledet – It’s a Man’s World – Live! With Kelly (VIDEO)

Joshua Ledet is finally out on his promo tour in New York City after his elimination in 3rd place. He stopped by Live! With Kelly today and proceeded to basically KILL an acoustic rendition of “It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World” with Michael Orland on piano.

Kelly Ripa and co-host, Martin Short chatted with Joshua beforehand about his time on Idol, his elimination and more.

Good job dude! Hope he at least gets a good single.

Love this performance. Joshua brings something new in each performance. I also enjoy the audience’s reaction throughout his performance. He’s so good.

  • Ira

The only reason we are buying tickets for the AI Tour is to attend the church of the most reverend Ledet. Awesome!!

  • Eriko

    HELL YEAH!!! Whoohoo!

  • Tinawina

I just love him so much. He’s the reason I want to go to the tour. I can’t imagine what it’s like to experience him live. So many of them would be fun to see on stage this year. :)

  • Gwen

I’m with Michael Orland.  How does one sound like that so early in the morning?  Phenomenal.

  • Anonymous

I didn’t think he could sing it better….WOW!!!

  • Anonymous

Amazing performance.  I love the crowd reaction all throughout the song.

  • Joyce @

    Thanks for posting

  • bigd13

Joshua sounded amazing and the audience reaction was great too, they normally don’t have any reaction to these performances. lol

  • Axxxel

    Michael Orlando LOL

I don’t know how anyone can sit when Josh performs.  I’m at work and was having a JLO moment because I wanted to jump out of my seat.  Can’t wait to seem him live!!

  • Axxxel

Was so impressed during Joshua’s farewell song on Idol, when Joshua hugged J-Lo and kept on singing beautifully…

    This performance on Kelly…wow !

I’m going to my first AI tour this year with my sister, and I’ve been luke warm about it. Thought it would be a fun little “adventure” for us. But, now I’m really, really excited for Joshua’s set.  Wow!

  • Anita P. Barber

Does is seem to anyone else that the Idols are lip-synching when they appear on this show?  Their mouths are never in sync with the music.

  • Kesia Monteith

Jesus Christ! Excuse my language, but how the hell did this guy NOT make the finale? I was just hooting and hollering in my room while this was on. Goodness, this man, THIS MAN! I feel so passionate for this dude is not even funny. I should consider buying tickets for this tour in Toronto, now.

Nice interview and Very good performance.  Michael Orland is looking good these days. Always nice having him there playing.

My hope for Joshua is that he displays his talent without screaming.  He did so today!!

  • Anonymous

He is fantastic! Wow, standing ovation!

I still say if this was a real singing competition, he should have won, hands down. Wow, what a talent!

  • Anonymous

” My hope for Joshua is that he displays his talent without screaming.  He did so today!!”

I have a feeling that being in the big halls with the thumping band that drowns you out — and the screaming audience that drowns you out too, along with the necessity to make every song seem like a complete drama in about 100 seconds — encourages all the singing-as-screaming we get on the show. Heck, I know it does.

Plus, when people don’t scream, then they very often get slammed for not showing much passion — partly because subtler, quieter singing and nuances just get squashed with all the noise and lights and over-banding on the show.

  • Anonymous

That may be a delay in the video.  He was most definitely not lip-synching.  ALL the way live.

  • Tinawina

Not to mention that it’s not considered “screaming” by everyone. It’s sort of a delicate balance I guess. The truer you are to the subgenre you come from, the less “crossover” you can be. Which is fine, but I guess everyone has to make a decision about just how mainstream they want to get. Patti Labelle wasn’t a pop superstar for a reason, and all the crossover hits she did have were sang in her more toned down voice except maybe Lady Marmalade.

Jessica will likely have the same issue. I actually feel a lot of what she did on the show was her trying to adapt to that kind of reality, as opposed to coming out and singing hip hop songs all the time.

I would imagine James, being a metal head, had to deal with that last year as well.

This guy is a natural. It’s so interesting to see him transform from a relatively soft-spoken, mild mannered interviewee (kinda boring actually) to a powerhouse on stage. I think he would have been in this Finale if they had given him more contemporary songs to sing.

Don’t know where he fits into the contemporary music scene but I hope they find a spot for him. Performing just seems what he was born to do. I think he has passed Jessica as my favorite this season.

    Another Standing-O Performance!

Joshua has such a great future ahead of him.  Love you so much!

Would somebody please give this boy a record deal already!!!  So we won’t have to wait a year for his record to drop!!

  • Anonymous

    Thanks Gwen!  Much better!

  • Anonymous

I want the record this year, but on the other hand, I don’t want junk.  I hope they don’t try to make him another Usher, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo type singer who relies more on hooks than actual lyrics.

I want SOUL music, not R&B Pop stuff; those of a certain age know what I’m talking about.  I just hope that there are people out there still writing that kind of music and radio stations willing to play it.

  • Nanc

    One Word…..WOW….that sums it up

“The only reason we are buying tickets for the AI Tour is to attend the church of the most reverend Ledet. Awesome!!”

Can I hear an AMEN !!!???

  • Angela Smith

    I’ll second that AMEN!

How great would Joshua be if he was cast in a movie? Oscar for sure!

  • Anonymous

I”m sure that’s already been done.

  • amy

Another? Million+ Joshua Ledet addicts created! YEAH!

  • Anonymous

This one’s gonna be the breakout star of Season 11.
    Wait and see.

  • Anonymous

Just put him in a room with some producers who know how to modernize soul (The Smeezingtons, Paul Epworth, hell, even Diplo), and he’ll be just fine.

  • Anonymous

“Not to mention that it’s not considered “screaming” by everyone. It’s sort of a delicate balance I guess.”

True. A lot of times I hear about “screaming” that I considered strong singing, not screaming …. Lots of times that happened with Josh, for me, for example. I do hear things I think of as “screaming” at times, though.

This season, for example, I thought that Skylar screamed a few songs from beginning to end, and I blame a lot of that on what happens when a high-energy person is trying to fill a big hall and is in competition with instrumental backing to do it. heh

  • Tiffany

I agree memphis.  I want some soul on Josh’s record. I wanted it on Reuben and Fantasias records too and never got it.  Clive Davis so dropped  the ball on those two with the lousy songs they gave them, not even talking about the crime he committed against Bo with stupid songs.  To me, Joshs performance on Idol of  IAMW was a grammy winning performance. I still cant get that Phil beat him out.

  • Anonymous

“I want some soul on Josh’s record. I wanted it on Reuben and Fantasias records too and never got it. ”

I think Elliott’s new album has some real old-fashioned soul on it. …. He’s sold about three copies.

I love his new album, and I know that his sales problems come at least partly from the fact that he’s an indie and has a hellish time getting radio play. But I wonder whether there’s much of a market for old-school stuff, or whether people would just rather buy a cd or a download of their old faves and play them.

With his newness, maybe it would work for Josh and maybe there’d be some way to make it sound old-schoolish and contemporary at the same time, to tempt more sales. But it is kinda worrisome, to me.

  • Anonymous

Interscope, please do right by this guy! This kind of talent cannot be ignored.

  • Anonymous

I was eavesdropping on a large group of women talking about idol–I would say medium age of 70– I don’t know how relevant this age group is–but their consensus was that they were glad Jessica didn’t win because she should be in school.( Jessica looked younger than most previous young female contestants so this seemed like an issue for older voters.)  They felt there was a Joshua on Idol every year and that he was a dime a dozen.  Nothing special. (Crazy, I know).

  • milwlovesadam

Once again, Joshua appears on my TV screen, and I just sat there slack-jawed and nodding and saying out loud “THAT’s how it’s done!”

He held back, he emoted, he got all nasty and stank faced, and then he held back. He felt it from his head to toes and made me feel it too.  WOW.

And when they scanned the audience, they felt it as well.

I just hope he has a career. He’s the one of best since you know who in season 8. IMHO. I just hope they do right by him. He’s the real deal.

  • Gwen

Sounds like those people who lumped Fantasia, JHud, LaToya London, Melinda Doolittle, and LaKisha Jones into one group, even though they are as different from each other as night and day.

To simply call Joshua a Gospel singer is so broad, and it speaks nothing of his gift.  That he gets so lost in a song and conveys that passion to an entire room and through a television screen speaks volumes , and it’s a very rare to find such an emotive performer.

Joshua’s a soul singer with a Gospel imprint.  I think finding him the right kind of music is going to be extremely important.  It can be done, but he’s got to find that balance between IAMW and Ready for Love.  I really hope they do right by him.  If not, it’s a wasted opportunity.

Someone like that is not a dime a dozen.

  • guinness 416

Ha ha, my thoughts entirely, I will attend the gig in TO with you, kesia!

  • Nanc

I have one of those three copies….best Elliott album yet

  • Anonymous

Awesome performance! I love Joshua…he’s got a great voice and is a natural performer. I still think he should’ve won, but he’ll be just fine…can’t wait for him to put out new music :)

  • Kesia Monteith

Was Shirly Halperin and that Joseph moron there too, saying Idol is not looking for the next gospel star? But yet people are eager crowning the next hot AC guy. People like those two and that group of woman you mentioned leave a bad taste in my mouth.

There is a lot more to Joshua than people give him credit for.

  • too-cool-for-school

So, sooo good. I’ve listened to his version of this song so many times and it never gets old or loses its power and spark. SKILL! Joshua Ledet is pure skill.

I second all of the thoughts hoping he gets to do a good soul album. Haley came in third and got to do exactly what she wanted, so hopefully the same will be said for Joshua if Interscope signs him! But hopefully it won’t take quite as long to release the album. :)

  • Anonymous

” I have one of those three copies….best Elliott album yet”

Yeah, I have one, too. (maybe he sold a few more than three)  I liked his earlier albums but this one is truly great, to me.

That’s partly why I wonder, though. Elliott has so far gotten absolutely nowhere with an old-school album that pretty much everyone who hears it says is quite strong. So would they even blend any such feel into a Joshua album or do they look at sales like Elliott’s (who, granted, is an indie with no ability to do legal payola, among other things …) and say — No way?

I can envision a Joshua album that has soul feeling plus some contemporary edge — but the album I envision has great songs on it, of course. I suppose that’s the real problem.

I don’t know if I’ve ever wanted someone from this show to succeed more so than I do Joshua. He’s just so talented. I know he got alot of flak for all the standing O’s but I really do feel like he’s top 5-10 singers this show’s ever seen, IMO.

The track record for pretty much all non-finale participants is mega discouraging, but we can dream Joshua! We can dream!

  • Anonymous

WOW!  My body is a goosie village!

  • Anonymous

Amazing. Love this guy. Wish him all the success in the world. What a talent…

  • Anonymous

I haven’t experienced that kind of raw emotional reaction to a singer since Teddy Pendergrass.  Luther Vandross had it too, but in a more sublime way.
Josh is like Teddy, Al Green, with a little Luther.

Makes you just go crazy…in a good way.

  • Trina

I have a feeling that when I go to the AI tour and experience Josh live I’ll truly understand why JLo lost her shit with him every week lol  As amazing as I think he is I cant even fathom how insane he is live.

  • supersonic

What can I say that hasn’t already been said?  I mean, the audience clapping halfway through the performance shows you something right there.  I’m just sitting here, shaking my head, pretty much speechless.  That is how it is done.  And I hope they don’t screw him over during the album process with songs that don’t fit him and all that other nonsense.

  • Anonymous

The sky’s the limit for this kid!  I am constantly just blown away by his level of talent and his natural performance skills.  I just can’t get enough of him.  I am so excited and looking forward to where he goes in his career.  I think many, many good things are in his future!

  • Anonymous

“WOW! My body is a goosie village!”

Well, it takes a village to raise a Joshua …    ;^D

  • dabney c

    Hi everybody,

I’ve been lurking on and off for years, and I finally just have to post, lol. I love Joshua so much. He’s in my top 3 or 4 idols of all time, including Elliott Yamin, David Cook, and maybe Haley. The fact that Josh didn’t make top 2 worries me to no end. He needs promo more than anything, and I’m not sure they budget for anyone who lands outside of top 2. Man, what a waste if they don’t give him the best chance possible.

Josh deserves the best push 19/Jimmy/whoever can afford, because this guy is not your everyday talent. I can only hope that his alleged facebook post about signing a “huge deal” is accurate. Why have we not heard anything official yet? And what might a “huge deal” entail? We already know they’ve restructured the finalists’ contracts to allow for a non-album, singles-only deal to be possible. What does “huge deal” mean to Joshua … if that rogue facebook announcement is even true?

P.S. I’m totally in with the the Toronto crew at the Idols Live show in August! :D

  • shell29

My Lawd.  I’m with you Trina-I MUST hear Josh live.  I’m buying a ticket to the summer tour just to hear that voice in person.

    Lord. Lord Lord Lord.

This is the 3rd time I’ve heard Joshua sing this song and the tears started right on cue anyway. And I’m *still* sniffling. It’s just an amazing thing to see (hear, feel) how he takes charge of this brilliant, beautiful song and goes straight for the heart (guts, soul) of the audience.

I want SOUL music, not R&B Pop stuff; those of a certain age know what I’m talking about.

Oh hell yes. Yes, PLEASE. (Though I also think (hope!) that if R&B Pop stuff is all that’s available, with the right song, he will still find his audience and all the success he deserves.

  • Anonymous

    Good Lord he is good.
I have been trying to force my way-too-hip-to-watch-Idol 20-something son to find some Idol that he likes for years. This year I played him the Adam Lambert clip from Idol – his rxn: “His album got good ratings on metacritic but the song – meh. I wouldn’t download it.” I played him Hayley Reinhart thinking at least he would find her er…compelling. Rxn: “Yeah she’s hot but that is a totally lame video. No guy my age is going to go for that. She is too blatant. If she is going to go for sexy she has to have a sense of humor about it like Niki (Minaj).” I played him Phil Phillips “home” and for the first time EVER he said, “that song is really really good. I would download that song and I would want to hear more from that artist. The song is good.” Wow, I was surprised. Then I played him Joshua Ledet and for the first time ever he said, “that guy is really really good.” He didn’t like the song necessarily but Joshua stood out to him and that has never happened in all the years I’ve tried to force him to say someone was good. He doesn’t listen to Joshua’s style music. He is into Indie rock, hip-hop, rap and pop. But he would go see Josh.
    I think I would too. He’s good.

Now here’s a guy I’ll be rooting for and buying music from.

Forget top 5-10, I’ve been watching since S1 and Joshua is the best singer/performer, ever. Better than Kelly, Ruben, Fantasia, Carrie… all of them.

  • DianaB

Josh is amazing!!  I am retired living on a fixed income and would have to travel to see him but I am seriously thinking of making the sacrifice.  I really want to see him live.  Maybe I will wait until he does his own tour.

  • Linda Boehmer

Joshua is one in a gazillion. Can’t stop listening to his songs & KNOW his 1st album will be superb like him. He will be HOT on Broadway, on stage singing, in
a movie etc etc. Totally gifted. Never seen anyone DO IT ALL…..!!!
