    And so it begins!!!
Great diversity, no over processing- Adam sounds gloriously beautiful!!
Love Music Again, Strut, Soaked, Broken Open- there truly is something for everyone on this album.
What a great success for Adam to have done this!!

  • cheese

I liked Music Agan, Sleepwalker and Broken Open. Some of those were cheesetastic (but at least it didn’t sound like one long song) I think FYE was a good choice for the first single.

  • Squirrely

here is a rip someone made

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7XX51KKG

This is going to be fun and beautiful album.

    Thanks Kirsten!

  • Mary102

Thanks, Kirsten! I was waiting for a new thread to post my first impressions. Listened to most of these several times, and my immediate reaction (more geared toward what I think could be good on the radio and w/ singles sales then necessarily what I love the most (because I’m just a tad biased about loving all things Adam ;-) )

The snippets sound awesome! Really excited about a lot of these songs. And you can hear his very very distinct and beautiful voice! YEAAA!!!

    Quick takes:

Strut - really really digging this one! Go Kara and Adam!
Whatya Want ‘“ strong contender for radio play (along with Strut and some others). Can definitely hear this on the radio already.
Loaded Smile ‘“ Another fave ‘“ just really like the sound of this one
Soaked ‘“ OMG ‘“ so beautiful, maybe too slow and melancholy to be radio-friendly, but it should be on the radio ‘“ it’s that good
Fever ‘“ DEFINITE radio material! Love it! Lady Gaga is AMAZING!!! I heart her forever!
Sleepwalker ‘“ not getting the WLL reference Aimee made before ;-) Still, good song.
Broken Open ‘“ Big fan of this one as well
If I Had You ‘“ definitely sounds very radio friendly too.

    Also enjoying Sure Fire Winners.

Pick U Up ‘“ Not as much Weezer sound in it as I expected ‘“ but hard to tell based on the small snippet. But still liking it.

Music Again ‘“ Probably feeling this one the least right now, mainly because it seems a little TOO much of a Queen throwback (too dated). I can’t see it on the radio at all, but I like the fact that this is Adam doing the kind of music he loves (and I love Queen too, don’t get me wrong, it just seems less current than some of the other tracks).

FYE ‘“ Absolutely still loving this song! And think it is the PERFECT first single :-)

  • aa618892

It really seams to me that they went in a different direction with this album than they had originally planned. There is more of a rock feel now as opposed to electro-dance music. I am loving Music Again and Soaked and Strut and Sure Fire Winners and, and, Ok I love all of them for different reasons. They are all so different! Thank you Adam for not giving us an album that runs together! And thank you for making your voice the focus! Can you tell I am excited?

  • rblaha1234

Music again——- you make me want to listen to music again..
    F Y E ———- amazing
What do you want from me. —— LOVE I IT
STRUT ——– I CAN SEE ADAM DANCING TO IT
SOAKED ——— IS SO GREAT I LOVE HIS SEXY VOICE BEAUTIFUL
A LOADED SMILE———– LEATHER AND LACE
IF I HAD YOU———- FALSETTO BEAUTIFUL
PICK YOU UP ——– LIFE WOULD BE A PARTY IF I HAD YOU’ ¦’ ¦.
    FEVER —————- LOVE IT
SLEEP WALKER ———- AFTER THE WAY YOU LOVE ME
AFTERMATH ————- YOU ARE NOT ALONG
BROKEN OPEN ——– I DON’T WANT YOU TO GO OUT IN THE COLD A +
TIME FOR MIRACLES ——- LOVE IT SO MUCH

  • Studio57

    Standouts to me:
Fever- I love how he sounds “snotty” and demanding, lol. This will definitely be my favorite, I think.

Soaked- Loved it more than Muse, and I was scared I wouldn’t because I didn’t like Adam’s Starlight as much as theirs, but when i heard Muses version it sounded a little whiney to me, but Adam version seems to make it sound more longing.

FYE- Forgot to add this because we have heard the whole thing- I absolutely love this song, my teenage girls already have some of the lyrics on their facebooks and I really think it will be a huge hit!

Music Again- Like, might love- have to hear the whole thing. very Queen’s “I Want It All”, but hope the full version is not too much of a throwback.

Also love Broken Open, A Loaded Smile, Strut and Sleepwalker.

If I Had You sounds like a club hit, which I am really not into, but alot of people are.

Not liking the Pink and Weezer ones. Sadz.

Gotta hear the whole thing but my overall impression is this is full of great songs, something to please everyone. Man that guys range- no wonder the industry is in love with him!

  • Chicagolaw

Oh my gosh, I am loving them so far! Very eclectic, which makes me happy

  • boredinschool

Not liking the Pink and Weezer ones. Sadz.

Ita. I love pink though so Im hoping that Ill like the full version one better!

  • Mary102

So which one has the big orchestra? Other than TFM – there’s another one that’s supposed to have a string orchestra iirc?

  • Mary102

Not liking the Pink and Weezer ones. Sadz.

Ita. I love pink though so Im hoping that Ill like the full version one better!

IMO they were the two most generic songs, as in, not really enough to grab onto to make them more interesting (especially the Weezer one). The Pink one is not as strong as some other Pink material, but seemed to have more potential, and this is just based on the short snippet, so it’s hard to tell what the full song will sound like.

  • Squirrely

Music Again is very Queen, I think that’s why I like it so much.

  • leeann

Moving my comment from the headlines thread…

The snippets are also streaming here (in case they get taken off Amazon).

I am absolutely loving the album, all 30 sec snips of them.

  • leome

    no over processing

I think we are listening to different things. But every mainstream album is over processed these days, so that’s natural.

Judging by these, I think the album has a lot of fillers, but there are a few stand outs in those 30 seconds. Obviously one of them being Soaked. . Music Again makes me think of Mika, sounds like a fun tune to be heard in a live show. I also like Aftermath, it’s something I could see in a David Cook album. lol It’s a bit different from the rest of the tracks (more like WWFM). And I’m also curious to hear the rest of Broken Open.

Now, the horror? If I Had You, Pick U Up and Sure Fire Winners sound like something that would be part of that circus of crap music called Eurovision. Strut and Fever are on the meh side. Also not feeling WWFM.
ah, and Sleepwalker, it sounds good, but it really reminds me of some other recent song. I’ve been thinking what song, but so far I can’t remember.

  • boredinschool

So which one has the big orchestra? Other than TFM ‘“ there’s another one that’s supposed to have a string orchestra iirc?

    2 of them actually
I wonder which one has Orianthi on it? Im guessing strut but I am in no way a guitar expert
When will we know if Adam is managed by Simon Fuller?

  • Kirsten

So which one has the big orchestra? Other than TFM ‘“ there’s another one that’s supposed to have a string orchestra iirc?

I was wondering that myself. It could have been cut or maybe it’s just part of the song we haven’t heard yet. You know how songs start with one sound and then suddenly become very different? You know, like “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”? or “I Just Came Back”.

  • jms

Not liking the Pink and Weezer ones. Sadz.

Yeah, those were the two that I kind of shrugged at. We’ll see. These short snippets make it hard to get a feel for the whole song.

  • Jae

This is just a short initial reaction post but ADAM KILLED IT! This album will be huge and totally take him out of the Idol realm. I think the weakest songs are:
Whatya Want From Me( I don’t like but Ithink a lot of non core adam fans will)
    If I had You
    Pick U up
Sure Fire Winner ( well actually this song might be great but I need to hear more)

Seriously, I think I flove the other 10. Thank You Adam!

  • rblaha1234

“WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME”– LISTEN A FEW MORE TIMES
IT IS REALLY GOOD. “WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME JUST DON’T GIVE UP NEED A SECOND TO BREATH.. “– OH IT IS GOOD.

  • http://twitter.com/glamtwinkle twinkle

right now i am loving all of them, but im pretty high on the excitement. im sure some favorites will emerge. fever and soaked are definitely stand outs.

this album sounds like it will have something for all facets of his fanbase.

SO EXCITED!!!!! way to go adam!

  • Squirrely

I think Soaked may have the orchestra.

Can’t stop listening, so many favorite snippets.

  • Susan M.

Wow!! Such diversity. Definitely not homogenized AI dreck of myth and legend. I am loving the ballads particularly ‘“ so raw and haunting, particularly “Soaked” and “Sleepwalker” but digging “Loaded Smile” too.

“Strut” and “Fever” jump out as having great radio and live performance potential. I’m with you, Mary102, from the snippet I think I’m feeling “Music Again” the least.

    So exciting!!!

  • mitchellvii

Funny, but I find myself liking the slow stuff more than the dance tunes.

  • BeckyMD

    Judging for the snippets,

    Love
Music Again (upbeat, dancing), A Loaded Smile (Adam’s falsetto), Broken Open, Fever (fun and Gaga), Soaked (omg)

    Interested:
    Strut, Sure Fire Winner.
Aftermath, Aftermath and Pick U Up sound similar to pop songs now on the radio. Very early Kelly C’.

    So far not liking
the pink song. It fits Pink’s voice better. If I had you is to pop dancing.

  • Mary102

It’s interesting that he actually seems to have a good mix of really strong slower songs (A Loaded Smile and Soaked, especially), plus some possible radio contenders with the dance pop fare (Fever and Strut being the strongest imo). Good combination.

Oh, liking Sleepwalker more too – go Aimee :-) Kinda midtempo, which is not my thing usually, but I like!

  • rblaha1234

The more I hear “What do you want from me” the more I Love it.
Listen a few more times, it is really good. I need to hear all of the songs but my first impression is I really am going to like this c d.
and I find my self singing “What do you want from me.”

  • Susan M.

I think Soaked may have the orchestra.

Can’t stop listening, so many favorite snippets.

I think so too, Squirrely ‘“ especially from the Muse demo it starts out with dramatic orchestration and then goes stark, IIRC. Love this song!!!

  • rockvixen

I love FEVER omg can I say hit? I like If I Had You, Soaked, Aftermath, Sleepwalker. The rest Idk have to hear the full thing.

  • zuper

This is why an eclectic album is so SMART. Everyone likes different things and there is something for everyone here.

Just reading through the comments there are some peoples favs I really don’t care for and then other people that I agree with completely. What’s best is that we all win. No one will ever say that all his songs sound alike.

  • adamlover

i keep listening over and over…there is really something for everyone with one common bond…adam’s incredible vocals!!

which one is the pink song?

  • ilovekrisallen39

Was it the Pink song that was rumored to be his first single. If it was I think it was smart to go with FYE. Am loving that single alot.

  • mgk

I love so many of these songs. Favorite right now is Fever. So effing hot!

  • Squirrely

Was it the Pink song that was rumored to be his first single. If it was I think it was smart to go with FYE. Am loving that single alot.

    I agree!

  • http://www.twilightslo.com Mateja

I listened to these snippets and now I just can’t stop smiling. :)

  • becausehelives

I am so excited. so far i like Fever, sleepwalker, soaked, broken open, a loaded smile, and strut .

he sounds like and angel on broken open and loaded smile.
    he sound sexy on fever
and sleepwalker has some awesome lyrics. aimee wrote a good one there.

  • Squirrely

I love Music Again that is repeat

  • jms

I love so many of these songs. Favorite right now is Fever. So effing hot!

Totally with you there! I’m thinking this should be the next single for the CHR market.

But if the rest of Soaked lives up to the snippet, I really, really hope they release it as a single. It deserves some major radio play.

  • beehiway

What a wonderful eclectic mix. I am so happy for Adam. I liked all of them for different reasons.

You know how songs start with one sound and then suddenly become very different?

I am so curious to hear the whole album. Music again was intriguing, like everyone else my immediate thought was Queen! It will be interesting to hear his take on that. And that falsetto at the beginning, wow, hope there is a lot more of it on that tune, sounded fun.

  • sr4mjc

Which one is the Weezer song?

  • Mary102

Was it the Pink song that was rumored to be his first single. If it was I think it was smart to go with FYE. Am loving that single alot.

    I agree!

Yes! FYE was a really really strong single to pick! I think they were pretty sure it would be the single for awhile too – only other strong contender IMO would be Fever, and that was a last minute add, it sounds like.

Pink one is “Whataya Want From Me”.

  • lizziegs

wow…his vocals are amazing throughout!! Loving Soaked (loving it!!!), Sleepwalker, Music Again, Fever – way to go Gaga – and even Strut which I was convinced I wouldn’t like. I’m happy!!
now get FYE up on itunes please!

  • http://www.planetfierce.proboards.com rowenaaine

Borrowed some ear buds from a co-worker and listening now. I’m really, really pleased with the overall sound.

Music Again – totally a Queen vibe and it sounds very much like I expected being written by Justin Hawkins. Good guitar work. Can’t see this on the radio, but bet it would have a fun video (especially if Justin was in it!)

FYE – I’ve already weighed in on this: I love it. Sounds fantastic on the radio and Dr. Luke did a great job.

Whaddaya Want From Me – Not feeling it. Like Studio57, I think this feels a little generic from the snippet, but maybe I will like the full version. I’m sure his voice will salvage it.

Strut – Like the guitar work, turns it more into a rock song than I anticipated. Of course, I worry about Kara’s lyrics…but so far so good.

Soaked – gorgeous! I was afraid Matt Bellamy’s demo would overshadow the actual recording. Not at all – it’s haunting and emotional, and perfect for Adam’s voice.

Sure Fire Winners – I know it’s not everyone’s cuppa but I love electronic production and think this is nicely done. Interesting to see how much they’ll tweak him with autotune on this one.

A Loaded Smile – dreamy. I get the “floating in space” description he gave, and it works.

If I Had You – I could envision this as the second single. Very CHR friendly with good dance beats. Need to hear more of it to decide, but I like it.

Pick U Up – Studio57, get out of my head! It doesn’t sound enough like a Weezer song…can see why Rivers didn’t record it with his own band…kind of generic and bland.

Fever – I love how he’s using his lower range, and using that faux accent he gave us in Life on Mars. This sounds arrogant and fun!

Sleepwalker – Kirsten nailed this. Sounds like a Ryan Tedder song through and through. That’s not a negative in my opinion, just a trademark sound. I don’t like it as much as some of the others, but a good song from the snippet.

Aftermath – I guess this is one of the songs Adam considers an “anthem.” I could see this as a third single from the snip that is offered here.

Broken Open – beautiful, 80s feel. Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, name a “First Wave Alternative Band” and you’ll find a song on their roster that evokes this. I love it; it’s one of my favorite eras, glad to have the nod.

    Initial Verdict:
Favs – Music Again, FYE, Soaked, Broken Open
Least – Whaddya Want From Me, Pick U Up

  • Mary102

Weezer song is Pick U Up.

Not feeling Aftermath as much – but fuller version may help with that. One of the more generic ones, imo.

  • Squirrely

Fever is WOW! Lady Gaga did good.

  • ilovekrisallen39

Yeah am really happy with what I heard so far. When I heard Lyndsey talking about some of the songs I was really lost and afraid I wouldn’t like the album at all, then I heard FYE and started to get a little more excited, but now hearing them snippets made me decided am going to buy the whole album and not just certain tracks. Adam’s my second favorite so am really happy I love it so far.

  • JazzRocks

I love so many of these songs. Favorite right now is Fever. So effing hot!

Agreed! A lot of attitude. Love it. My other fav is SOAKED – Just gorgeous. Better than M. B.
Also loved A Loaded Smile & Aftermath & Broken Open. Heck I love most of them.
I have to keep listening. A bit disappointed in Music Again, but can’t really tell much from a 30 sec snippet.

The sound is very cohesive throughout yet doesn’t sound like one long song – as someone else said.

This makes up for the I-Tunes fiasco.

  • Squirrely

Oh and Broken Open sounds so sweet.

  • Dallas

Where is SueBro when you need her. Be sure and tweet Aimee and tell her that Sleepwalker is one of my top 3 so far. Flove it. Strut! Way to go Kara (whew) and Fever is going to be MONSTROUS for radio. Actually lovin’ them all but since we haven’t heard anything but a snippet, will be anxiously awaiting to hear the rock songs in their entirety.

    ADAM ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • downeast

It’s everything he promised, and something for everyone. Fantastic job. Clearly he was allowed to run the show here, and had the vision to do so.

Bravo. Can’t wait to hear the full versions!!!!!!!!!

  • glamatheart

I hate listening to snippets because, well, you just never know but…WOW. This is exactly the kind of eclectic album I was hoping for. So many great tunes showcasing Adam’s voice. It is so exciting!

Add me to the list that thinks FYE was the perfect single. ( I love that song!) The Pink song is just too Pink. I love her but I just hear her sound too much here. It’s the only one I’m not feeling so much.

  • DLee

Broken Open ‘“ beautiful, 80s feel. Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, name a ‘First Wave Alternative Band’ and you’ll find a song on their roster that evokes this. I love it; it’s one of my favorite eras, glad to have the nod

I love this one…Is this one that Adam wrote?

  • Valentin432

I like most of the snipets, Strut sounds really good and Soaked seems even better than expected.

If I Had You sounds way too much like If I Can’t Have You (Kelly Clarkson).

  • http://www.planetfierce.proboards.com rowenaaine

Mary102, I think Aimee had two songs in contention. The “WLL” rock song didn’t make it, but Sleepwalker did. Maybe the other one will turn up as a bonus down the line.

  • http://www.planetfierce.proboards.com rowenaaine

DLee – yes, I believe he has a writing credit on “Broken Open.” It’s really lovely, isn’t it?

  • Mary102

If I Had You ‘“ I could envision this as the second single. Very CHR friendly with good dance beats. Need to hear more of it to decide, but I like it.

Yes – that was my thought as well. Very much reminds me of something like Good Girls Gone Bad – very big on radio now.

  • Studio57

I GOT IT! It’s been bugging me what Sleepwalker reminds me of. It is a cross between JT’s What Goes Around, Cry Me A River, and My Love. Has that Timbaland remix feel to it.

The more I listen to it, the more I love it. I cannot even decide noew which one I love more, lol. I am all mixed up and confused!

  • OhMyRawrrr

hmmm, am I the only one who thinks he sounds fantastic on whataya want from me??? Love it!
Music Again – HOT! Queen, boston, retro – so intrigued!
Sounds like quite an eclectic mix that will appeal to a wide variety of people with the main feature being that delicious voice!

  • http://www.irish-wolfhounds.com Buderschnookie

If I had to pick a first single purely from these snippets it would be Strut hands down!
I understand using FYE from a performance standpoint re AMA’s, but Strut kills me!

Soaked and Broken Open, too, but not as singles.

  • Mary102

Mary102, I think Aimee had two songs in contention. The ‘WLL’ rock song didn’t make it, but Sleepwalker did. Maybe the other one will turn up as a bonus down the line.

Oh, for some reason I thought this one was the WLL-type one. I was like, uh, this isn’t very WLL AT ALL :-)

  • FlowerGirl

OMG I love Soaked! So plaintive and moving…going back to hear it again. This albums kills.

  • schufly

Oh hell yezzzz.. Don’t have time to review them on here, but after one listen this album has surpassed my wildest expectations. I can’t wait for the full songs. Way to deliver Adam!!!!

  • OhMyRawrrr

Aftermath – his voice sounds so hot here! Yum yum yum.
Feeling like a tongue tied fool right now.

  • beehiway

“I was born with glitter on my face, my baby clothes made of leather and lace” on Sure Fire Winners. 8) 8)

  • Mary102

If I had to pick a first single purely from these snippets it would be Strut hands down!
I understand using FYE from a performance standpoint re AMA’s, but Strut kills me!

    Loving Strut too :-)

    Order for singles (imo):

    1. FYE
    2. Fever
    3. Strut
(would love Soaked or another ballad too, but not sure if that would make it since it’s not as pop friendly)

  • tinawina

Was not crazy about the first 3 snippets, but from Strut on it picked up nicely for me. I think Sure Fire Winners and If I Had You sound like strong singles, I also liked Strut a lot and Broken Open. These sound good, and though you can’t be definitive with snippets I think things are looking pretty good for this album right now!

  • KayGee

I liked 57% of this CD – translation – there were 8 songs I could listen to automatically (Nos. 2, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, and 14), but the others would have to grow on me. I mostly listen to my music in my car, and on random this CD would be just fine…

  • DLee

    Feeling overwhelmed.

  • ilovekrisallen39

Yeah am really loving Broken Open awhole lot too. I gotta go and do some boring housework now, well be back later to talk some more.Still have alot of stuff to do before the move to NY, at the end of the month. Gotta find away to buy his cd on the 23rd and put it on my i-pod since I won’t have my computer after the 18th. Probably have to talk my hubby into letting me buy the cd before Christmas. The only reason I got to get The other guy’s was I got the i-tune pass. If I can talk my hubby into it then I’ll have to download it from i-tunes and borrow my Hubbies laptop. Really excited for this album, am so happy for us Adam fans.

  • Mary102

hmmm, am I the only one who thinks he sounds fantastic on whataya want from me??? Love it!

I put Whataya Want in the good range – not as memorable as the strong tier (Soaked, Strut, FYE, Fever, A Loaded Smile), but based on these snippets I think it is still a strong contender as a radio-friendly single – just more generic than other Pink stuff, or other stuff on the album, which is my main problem. But hard to tell, again, based on the snippet.

Aftermath sounds like it could be on David Cook’s album :-) LOL.

  • Dallas

ooooo, Sure Fire Winners ……good one.

Oh hell, I really am lovin’ all of them, for different reasons! I will be playing this entire album without having to hit the FF button. Good Job.

(I know we need to hear the entire song, these are first impressions.)

OF COURSE FYE is a F**in’ masterpiece IMHO and was a brilliant first single.

Yes! That’s it exactly. The first time through listening, this didn’t strike me as anything special. Second time I put on my head phones and he sounds totally gorgeous.

LOL at you putting FYE on your favorites list. I didn’t even consider it when ranking them since I’ve been listening to it so much. Taking that into account my Top four: FYE, Music Again, Fever, Soaked

And, like rowannaine my least favs (and the only two that I don’t like a lot) are: Whaddya Want From Me, Pick U Up

Not surprised I’m not feeling the Pink song. I had a hard time imagining Adam sounding good on one of her tunes. I’m disappointed that I’m not feeling Pick U Up though. Hoping I like it more when I hear the whole thing.

Overall, I think I’m going to love the album. So very exciting.

I know I am going to like the whole album. Adam’s voice is so pretty. Didn’t hear any autotune or over processed. Well, I hope the full songs are not going to be anyway. Happy day for being able to hear the snippets.

  • Kaykohl

Strut sounds like a Rihanna song. It reminds me of SOS.

  • DLee

Aftermath sounds like it could be on David Cook’s album :-) LOL

I know what you mean…I was actually thinking Daughtry.

  • Squirrely

Strut is hot too. … hell I like them all.

  • realvivi

omg. I love all the songs!!! I really really do!!!

  • Mary102

Broken Open ‘“ beautiful, 80s feel. Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, name a ‘First Wave Alternative Band’ and you’ll find a song on their roster that evokes this. I love it; it’s one of my favorite eras, glad to have the nod.

ITA – and I LOVE those groups :-)

  • DLee

I wonder how they choose what part of a song to feature on the snippet?

  • Studio57

Aftermath sounds like it could be on David Cook’s album LOL

I know what you mean’ ¦I was actually thinking Daughtry.

I agree too- doesn’t seem like Adam at all.

  • DLee

    Who wrote Aftermath?

  • Balance

Aftermath sounds like it could be on David Cook’s album LOL.

That must explain why it’s one of my favorites. Really like Aftermath and Aimee’s Sleepwalker, LOVE Broken Open. Probably won’t buy the whole CD, but will definitely be picking up some of these singles.

  • unique28v

Do we know why FYE isn’t available on Itunes today?

  • boredinschool

Im just happy that I like the songs and that they didn’t make him bland or autotune out his vocals.

Not yet, lol. Will go listen now, be back. :)

  • sunchick

This is why an eclectic album is so SMART. Everyone likes different things and there is something for everyone here.

And exactly why I’m so disappointed. :( Its hard to pass final judgement from the snippets, but I don’t get a sense of one strong creative voice holding this together as a cohesive album. I dunno, I’m a big fan of the album as an album, not a collection of singles. This is coming off like a Frankensteining of different creative energies and it’s not really hanging together for me. Fits very well into the current pop landscape I suppose. I dunno…suddenly I’m leaning more towards downloading the songs I decide that I like after they leak rather than buying the whole album. Sads. So far I’m intrigued by Aftermath, Soaked, Strut, and Fever. If I Had U sounds like something that would have been on Blake’s first album. Sleepwalker is probably my least favorite. Still excited to see Adam peform this stuff live, though.

  • Miss Chaos

I wanted to add my comments before I read any. I still love FYE, I am excited to hear all of Fever, a different sound from him. Soaked sounds beautiful, a couple sound like pure Adam, I think there is a lot of different sounds on the album, it didnt sound much old rock to me, but more of the modern stuff you hear on the radio. Excited to hear all the tracks, Happy!

  • boredinschool

    Who wrote Aftermath?

Adam, Ely the Creep, Ferras and Alisan.
I wonder if this is the one that Howard Benson produced. I know that Alisan and Ferras were tweeting about laying down back up vocals for this song but I cant remember if they said that the same day Adam said he was working with Howard Benson or not.

wow’ ¦his vocals are amazing throughout!! Loving Soaked (loving it!!!), Sleepwalker, Music Again, Fever ‘“ way to go Gaga ‘“ and even Strut which I was convinced I wouldn’t like. I’m happy!!
now get FYE up on itunes please!</blockquote>

You can download FYE on adamofficial.com for 1.29 right now!

  • http://www.planetfierce.proboards.com rowenaaine

jms, I am going back and forth on Fever. I like it, but not as much as I thought I would from GaGa’s demo. (That’s why I shouldn’t listen to demos!) I think my expectations were too high for it. But maybe hearing the whole song I’ll see more why folks are loving it and think it could be a killer single.

LOL about FYE. Yeah, couldn’t forget that one because I really do think it’s a perfect song for his “introduction” to the radio.

It IS exciting to hear an ecclectic yet beautifully rendered collection of songs. I’m really so thrilled that he was able to pull this off. Kudos to 19/RCA for getting out of the way and letting him do his thing.

  • Tara

That’s what I want to know too. Come on Itunes!

  • Lynne

    Wow. Very exciting!

    I LOVE:
    Music Again!!!!
    Broken Open
    Fever!!!
    A Loaded Smile
    Aftermath
    Sure Fire Winners!!
    Soaked!!!!!!!!!!

    I really like:
FYE (although it is growing and growing on me, and maybe I LOVE it)
    Strut
    Sleepwalker

    Like:
    Whataya Want for Me
    Pick U Up
    If I Had You

But might grow to love them more with more than just the snippet and after repeated listening.

Anyway, I am very excited and can’t wait to hear the rest of these songs. I do think that there are a lot of different types of songs here, and that there really will be something for everybody.

  • carmine2008

Its sounds disco/electronic/pop. Pretty much what Adam said he was going for. It actually sounds like a hit record to me. And I’m going to have a listen to the whole thing ’cause some of the songs sort of appeals to me even though I don’t like electronic music.

I was kinda hoping for atleast one song that was similar to Tracks of My Tears, but its nowhere to be found. Well, as they say, you cant have everything.

Some of the songs sounded like the theme songs for some of those Japanese live action shows (I think the term is “Sentai”). And I don’t intend this to be rude or disrespectful. I’m pretty sure listening to the entire song will change some of my first impressions.

  • sma11ie

Wow, I really like most of the snippets! I’m not a fan of Adam’s voice most of the time, but this is the exact type of dance/pop that I enjoy. I like the Lady Gaga/Pink vibe of some of the songs.

So, hilariously, I listened to Sleepwalker without reading the track details Kirsten/MJ posted previously, and thought instantly that this must be the Ryan Tedder song. Oh, Tedder is such a hack, LOL! But man, good job overall, RCA for picking fun songs!

I liked Soaked, Broken Open, and TFM least. Soaked is pretty but probably one of my least favorites. I preferred the Muse demo, and I generally don’t like Adam’s voice on ballads. I’m an example of someone who only liked Adam some times on Idol, so if this album appeals to me, I’d say they’re aiming to expand Adam’s audience to non-Idol fans. Yeah, I might end up getting at least a couple of singles on this album.

  • larc

WOW!!! I really like so many of the tracks based on short snippets that I’ll just list the ones I don’t particularly care for. Here they are:

    *crickets chirping*

  • dhunken

Has anybody heard whether FYE was suppose to be available on Itunes today. Was it an Itunes glitch or was the information about it being release Nov 3 wrong (Even though that came from Adam himself)

Snippets from Album so far are good…I never really judge just on snippets but mostly what I have heard is good.

Do we know why FYE isn’t available on Itunes today?

Ahh, the question of the moment :-) Currently overshadowed by the fact that we actually have song snippets :-)

One theory on headlines was that they’ll wait a week to have the song pick up more spins on the radio first before putting it on itunes. My biggest problem with this strategy (though it probably doesn’t matter in the long run) is that all the hardcore fans will have already bought it, so you won’t have as much of a push on itunes to the top right off the bat.

  • Sassycatz

Sounds like he’s trying to do Bowie in many of these songs.

  • aa618892

It IS exciting to hear an ecclectic yet beautifully rendered collection of songs. I’m really so thrilled that he was able to pull this off. Kudos to 19/RCA for getting out of the way and letting him do his thing.

rowenaaune-ITA I just listened with earphones and I couldn’t be more pleased. Each song is special in a different way with Adam’s vocals tying everything together just like he said. I can’t wait to hear the full versions, especially Soaked and Sure Fire Winners!

  • mmb

WOW!!!!! I LOVE this! I actually liked every song (which is really rare for me)…i definitely hear the 70s and 80s influences, hear the “Sweet” sound mentioned by Lindsay…the album definitely has its own sound, while still providing an eclectic mix….

  • LaurelG

I’m still kind of shaking my head over how eclectic this album is, due, I’m sure, to the influences of its many contributors ranging from Justin Hawkins to Ryan Tedder.

I think I must be the only person who doesn’t like Strut. LOL. It’s just too repetitive and uninteresting musically for me, at least based on this snippet.

The three ballads – Soaked, A Loaded Smile and Broken Open – are all amazing and I love them all in different ways. If I had to pick which one I thought would be the most radio friendly, I’d have to say A Loaded Smile. So beautiful.

Three others that I could see being radio hits are Whataya Want From Me, If I Had You and Sleepwalker. Fever could also do well, but I’d need to hear the whole song.

But I love the whole album! I can definitely see people wanting to buy the whole thing … not just a few cuts. His voice sounds incredible!

  • Mary102

Snippets from Album so far are good’ ¦I never really judge just on snippets but mostly what I have heard is good.

And my take is, songs usually sound A LOT better, regardless, when you finally get the full version – so all is well :-)

IMO, a bad or mediocre song snippet MIGHT be salvaged after hearing the full version, but good to great song snippets only get better when you hear the whole thing!

  • sweetmm

    Base on snippets;
    1. Soaked
    2. Broken Open
    3. Sleepwalker
    4. Aftermath

  • May

I think I just took a time machine back into the 80s…I even had an ABBA flashback in the beginning. Will wait to hear the complete songs. i have a hard time judging non-ballady songs on 30s snippets.

  • http://twitter.com/terra_zephead terraj

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the 30s snippets.

  • suebrody

    Okay, back!!!

Kind of surprisingly (or maybe not, given how much I love MW, FG, ACIGC, Starlight, and One, studio), the slower songs were my favorites. I LOVE Soaked (I knew I would). I LOVE Aftermath (ditto). I love Sleepwalker. (duh) .I also really like Broken Up, What Ya Want from Me, Pick You Up, and Sleepwaker (The only song I really DID NOT like is Sure Fire Winnter (waaaay too over-produced for me). I love Adam’s vocals–I wanna hear them, un-processed. I kind of think Strut would have been my first choice for a single.

I think this album is gonna kill–something for everyone. Including TfM FTW! ;)

    ETA: sweetmm, YEP.

  • cmc25

Very impressive snnipets, nothing boring at all. There are many tracks on just first hearing to justify my first ever CD purchase from American Idol alumni.

Two songs have already grown on me- FYE and to my surprise TFM. I guess if a song is played many times, it’s either one will like it or totaly consider garbage and never would want to hear again.

  • jill16

I didn’t think I could be anymore excited for this album, but after hearing these snippets, Wow, just WOW!!

FYE was the perfect first single. Fever, I absolutely love and Strut conjures up all kinds of visuals:):). And I really like If I Had You.

Broken Open sounds beautiful, but at 5:03 long, I doubt would get airplay. Soaked reminds me of another song, can’t think of it now.

Whataya Want From Me and Music Again, I need to hear more of to decide.

Overall I think it’s going to be a great album.

  • zorana84

God I can’t choose a favourite…love them all except maybe Whataya want from me…. A+++++ decision on the first single…

I think my favourite part of the album are the lyrics… and the way his range is utilized…swoons

AND HE DIDN’T CHANGE THE PRONOUNS ON FEVER….GO ADAM!!!! I was so scared that would happen!!!

“I was born with glitter on my face…my baby clothes were made of leather and lace” :) :) :)

  • ljsmack

ADAM DELIVERS! Feels as if one is turning a prism with many facets of Adam breaking through. Soaked and Fever are favorites from the snippets. One would have to combine Sue Brody’s and Luv’s squeeing to capture my euphoria.

  • Ladyguard

I have a feeling that this is going to become my favourite cd. :)

  • Truthiness

Mmmm. I agree the Pink and Weezer songs were weakest for me.

  • Lynneville

Adam delivered exactly what he said he would, and I love every bit of it. How can I wait until Nov 23?
Also, who thinks FYE would be perfect to OPEN the AMA award show?

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/Valilac1 VAlilac

Taking a minute from work just to say that if we are excited about the album after listening to low quality 30 second snippets, imagine how the full tracks are going to sound in high quality.

    DW November 23rd! :-)

  • suebrody

    BTW:

    *flailing and squeeing*

Aftermath and Sleepwalker: my Twitter buds did not let me down!!!

    *happy dancing*

  • Mark

This is why an eclectic album is so SMART. Everyone likes different things and there is something for everyone here.

Possibly. But it also then runs the risk of not having enough content for any one buyer to want to buy. Not saying this album doesn’t, though.

The snippets are interesting. I don’t really have time to do a full review at the moment of the snippets, but some thoughts; Broken Open definitely is going to be my favorite track on the album, which didn’t surprise me, as I’ve been a fan of Adam’s downtempos more than his other stuff, even as I’ve enjoyed that too. What did surprise me is that it’s really the only one of its kind that I actually enjoyed at all, even upon repeated listens; the others just seemed like outright bombs. The uptempo tracks are fun, but almost none of them stick out in my mind at all, after repeated listens and a five minute hot chocolate break. If I Had You did, though; if I was choosing a second single, this would be it. Least favorite has to be Sure Fire Winners; from the snippet, I actually cringed (so corny!), though I would hold out hope that it’s the way the snippet is set up. The clips haven’t changed my lack of clarity on whether I want to buy the whole album or poach my favorite tracks.

  • AdoK

This album is going to be a music list shaker! Such original, fresh and bold. I love majority of the songs, especially those with a rock vibe.
Waiting impatiently for more! And yes Sunn (I hope I remember correctly) – Black Swan for sure!

  • Studio57

I broke my favorites up into tiers just based on the snippets, and just for fun. I will probably change my mind wwhen the full songs come out.

    First Tier:
    FYE
    Soaked
    Fever
    Strut
    A Loaded Smile
    Sleepwalker

    Second Tier:
    Time for Miracles
    Broken Open
    Music Again

    Bottom Tier:
    Sure fire Winners
    Aftermath
    Pick U Up
    Whataya want from Me
    If I Had You

  • CindyM

OMG…I love these snippets, can’t wait to hear the whole album!

    Music again…WOW!!!
    Fever…Funky, I love it!!
Broken Open and Soaked…Haunting and beautiful.

    November 23rd get here fast!!!!

  • Tara

Exactly Lynneville. how in the heck do we wait, argh. I am so happy about the CD. Phew. I can stop worrying about a complete stranger now.

  • SCORPIO14

OMG – LOVE ALL THE SNIPPETS – Soaked – his voice sounds better than Bellamy.

  • midwifespal

Gah Gah Gah Too Much Awesome Cannot Compute….

One comment that I have enough brainpower left to make at this point is that for all those who worried that Adam’s album wouldn’t gel and would sound weird and fragmented because it is so eclectic–I think listening to all these snippets in a row like this shows how much the Adam in every song pulls the album together into a beautiful, logical whole…

But I gotta go listen again to get the gahFREAKOUTgah outa my head!

  • http://www.twitter.com/halfie6 halfie

I think these songs are shockingly good for a post-Idol debut. High-quality material, top-shelf production. Fascinating.

  • realvivi

soaked is the most beautiful thing ever!

  • mr

    Uuuuurgh!

I was fighting myself hard not to listen to the snippets, so that I’ll be able to listen to the songs in their whole for the first time…
But I lost the battle!!!!!! I just had to listen! And there are quite few that sound VERY promising!

I agree with those who liked “Broken Open”- it automatically pulled me into another world… for a few short seconds, lol

And I actually liked Pick U Up too, and A Loaded Smile and Soaked.

Some of the others too, but I really need to listen to the full songs to know…

    Very exciting!

  • jms

AND HE DIDN’T CHANGE THE PRONOUNS ON FEVER’ ¦.GO ADAM!!!! I was so scared that would happen!!!

Huh? What pronouns? Maybe I’m not hearing the lyrics right, but I don’t hear any pronouns at all on this snippet.

  • mmb

    Absolutely.
I am so happy that he was able to fulfill his own vision- God knows whether he had to battle over much, but if he did YaY perseverance, and if he didn’t Yay 19/RCA.

WOW- a debut CD by someone where I won’t have to skip any tracks!

  • sr4mjc

    I’m in love..

Soaked is so beautiful. And good job Gaga on Fever!

  • FlowerGirl

Can’t wait to see how Adam styles each of these songs with hair, wardrobe, expression, attitude, moves. Oh yeah we’ve got a LOT of Entertainment to come!

  • deshae78

Hard to tell a whole lot from a 30 second snippet…but I do know I liked what I heard so far. My fave is Fever, wow that’s really catchy. I cannot wait to hear the whole song! His voive is awesome on that…really affected & that’s why I love it. Of course I will love his voice on everything he sings, for different reasons..but I love how they kept the catchy melody but switched up the vocals…nice. Soaked sounds very beautiful. I am surprised the album sounds a lot more rock than I expected. Honestly I thought it would be more dance-y sounding…well I guess it is exactly what Adam said it waw i.e. rock with a dance element…just a little more rock sounding to me. Whatever it is, me likey. Very much!

I wonder what Adam will sing at the ADL event. Probably something very beautiful! Can’t wait to hear that…hope there is great video so I can make an MP3.

  • Miss Chaos

OMG A Loaded Smile, I cant wait for the whole song, it is beautiful, I get a favorite everytime I go back and listen, and FEVER, WOW! Lets see when does this come out???? Gotta have it NOW!!!!!! Going back to listen again, OH!

  • http://www.planetfierce.proboards.com rowenaaine

jms, I think he says “there he goes…” in the snippet, but not positive.

  • suebrody

Where is SueBro when you need her. Be sure and tweet Aimee and tell her that Sleepwalker is one of my top 3 so far. Flove it. Strut! Way to go Kara (whew) and Fever is going to be MONSTROUS for radio. Actually lovin’ them all but since we haven’t heard anything but a snippet, will be anxiously awaiting to hear the rock songs in their entirety.

HERE! I am going to tell her. YAY FOR AIMEE!!! Sleepwalker, Aftermath and Soaked are my favorites. lol (but seriously, they are).

Ya know…I was wondering if this would happen…I like the mid-tempo and slower ones the best. I am sure the others will grow on me (do NOT like Music Again or Sure Fire Winners which of course will end up being the next singles, lol), but for me for you for me , this album is going to kill. FYE is already getting mucho play. And yes, I think A Loaded Smile is really nice. But Soaked will be the one I will listen to over and over and over. *happy smile* Thank you, Matt Bellamy.

I guess I am not a club person…maybe I need to hear the remixes (there will be)–but I just do not hear Adam’s voice in them, and I WANT TO. This, my friends, is why I (and 2 other people) love TfM. The way his voice swoops and soars…magnificent. Plus he looks super hot in the video. SUPER HOT. Emo Hair!Adam.

iTunes: Epic fail. You suck it hard.

Going to listen again and all day. WOOT WOOT SQUEE FLAIL

ETA: May I emphasize again just how much I lurrrve Soaked and also Sleepwalker and Aftermath? And no bias, nooo. 8)

It IS exciting to hear an ecclectic yet beautifully rendered collection of songs. I’m really so thrilled that he was able to pull this off. Kudos to 19/RCA for getting out of the way and letting him do his thing.

Oh I love this!!! The album is everything Adam said it would be, well based on the snippets!! Different genres, his beautiful voice the key component that ties it all together. I’m beginning to believe Tedder when he said that RCA was backing Adam’s vision! Woohoo, it’s great to be an Adam fan!!!!

  • Studio57

One comment that I have enough brainpower left to make at this point is that for all those who worried that Adam’s album wouldn’t gel and would sound weird and fragmented because it is so eclectic’“I think listening to all these snippets in a row like this shows how much the Adam in every song pulls the album together into a beautiful, logical whole’ ¦

  • DLee

I hope Matt Bellamy writes more songs for Adam.

  • 4evrmomof4

wow, REALLY feeling overwhelmed, so much to listen to and process– also we don’t know where in the song these snippets are taken.

I found the snippet of TFM very deceiving as to the true beauty of the song

Can’t wait to get home so I can really listen, boy is it hard to crouch over my computer in work, with the audio so low as to not disturb anyone else in the surrounding cubes, can’t really get a real feel for the song..

    WTF with itunes, huh?

  • christyo

Like what I hear so far. Music Again totally sounds like the Electric Light Orchestra. Anyone remember them from the 80′s????

  • zorana84

@jms eep sorry I heard there he goes instead of there it goes…lol well let me change that to I hope he doesn’t change them :)

over excitement, it’ll do things to your ears I guess…

  • Chicagolaw

The ballads are seriously gorgeous; Soaked must be the one with the orchestra.

And I am actually loving all the glam/dancey stuff, which I was a tad bit worried about, lol, as I am not a huge electrpop fan. Adam makes it all work for me.

Aftermath definitely has an “anthem” feel. I think the snippet starts in at a weird place, though, maybe midway through the chorus?

    Fever has an incredible beat

    I need this CD now!

Not hearing as much about A Loaded Smile – I am LOVING that one!

  • Maddy

  • Q3

No wonder it took them so long to pick the single! What great music.

I can’t pick a fav but Soaked, Broken Open and Pick U Up are amazing. And Sleepwalker could be played on the pop-country crossover station in Tupelo, MS is a minute.

It is absolutely better than I expected — hard for me to believe that this album has a 19R label on it. The only song that sound like a 19R production to me is “Aftermath” (Howard Bensen — as in Daughtry produced it — so it is what one would expect, fairly generic rock track.) The whole Aftermath track may be better because I think that is the song with the Orianti guitar solo and that could be great with Adam’s vocal.

  • alaadam

Loved Fever! Wow! and Strut! Broken Open was like floating is space – luved it. The ONLY one I didn’t like was Music Again. I am really excited about listening to the whole thing! I can’t wait to get my CD, my glass (bottle) of wine, sit by the fireplace, and have an exciting, enjoyable, sexy, seductive, calming night with ADam!!!

  • Maddy

I love A Loaded Smile Mary. That was one I was interested in after the EW article. And I agree with what you said about the Weezer and Pink songs-but I like them.

    11/23, hurry up!

Er, yeah, I tweeted Aimee and Alisan and Ely and Ferras. ;)

ETA: DLee, yes. My dream tour: Muse and Adam. *sigh*

ETA 2: Didn’t like Music Again, either. And I know I am the only one who was not feeling Sure Fire Winners, but Adam/RCA/19 do not care, b/c they do not like TfM and I do.

You know, re: iTunes…do you think 19 wanted to focus on Allison’s single, Carrie’s album and Kris’s preorder? Wait until the field is a little clearer in a few days?

The snippets I liked after one listen:

    music again
    whataya want from me
    surefire winners
    a loaded smile
    fever (not sure though)
    broken open

  • LTinND

Adam has certainly made me want to listen to Music Again. Thank you, thank you. I have discovered so many bands/sounds I did not even know that I wanted to hear. I loved/liked all the snippets.

  • selena

this is seriously a brilliant album.

Favorites so far: Soaked, Fever, Music Again, the two other ballads, Sure Fire Winner.

The only ones I will wait to make a comment about are If I had You, and Pick me up. they haven’t grabbed me yet. Maybe the one with Pink also.

But the rest are fu#%ing awesome…….Supersonic awesome

  • greeneyedlady

    Oh wow!!!
This album is going to be AMAZING, I can’t even believe how good these snippets sound!
Instant faves: Music Again, Fever, If I Had You, Pick U Up

But Soaked… Holy heck this song is going to be gorgeous. The purity of his voice just breaks my heart.

  • mmb

If the full Strut is as good as the snippet, Kara might, maybe, someday, be forgiven for NoBo

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ Zsus

I’m going to make an easy guess that “Fever” will be the second single. Then, “Sleepwalker” will be the first ballad released. I think I might like it a lot. It’s not as beautiful as “Soaked” or as haunting as “Loaded Smile” or as gorgeous as “Broken Open.” But, it is the most radio-friendly and hit-worthy of the ballads.

I think “Loaded Smile” is going to end up being a stunner once we can hear the whole thing.

  • BestAI

What an unbelievable album. Seriously, I’ve never heard an album with new music that had so many good songs. And especially as Adam put it, eclectic, and still fuses together with his voice. No wonder all his collaborators were raving about Adam after they recorded with him.
This is so bad now because Nov. 23 just can’t come soon enough.

I have to continue to listen to them all again to pick favorites since I’ve loved every one I heard. Oh, and sorry for Bellamy fans, but I love Adam’s version of Soaked better than Bellamy.

  • 1994yahoo

sleepwalker stands out for me. music again sounds like mika

  • girlygirl

After one listen, my favorites are Broken Open, Soaked and A Loaded Smile. But pretty much all of the snippets sound good.

    Yay for Adam!

  • midwifespal

Just listened to them all again and I’ve gotta say (now that I’ve somewhat caught my breath):

WOW. I am so incredibly impressed at the quality of almost all these snippets. The only one that I didn’t totally fall for was If I Had You, and that was just because it sounded to me like standard Gaga, and I REALLY LIKE standard Gaga–I think she’s awesome–so there you go! Adam’s just completely adjusted the scoring system in my head!

I LOVE the sound of Music Again, Strut (love the guitars on Strut), Soaked, Fever (FEVER!! SO GOOD!!), Sure Fire Winners, Broken Open, GAH all of them. He really wasn’t overhyped, was he?

On that note, I have a question for all of you guys who know more about contemporary music than I do:

Does this sound like a new sound to you, like Rob Cavallo said? I mean, a new-old sound of course, because Queen, Bowie, etc are like splattered all over this album (in a great way), but with the modern dance beats, etc, it sounds new to me–excitingly new, but I’m a certified ignoramous and I’d love to hear from those of you who aren’t.

SO Friggen excited. So damn good.

  • Dallas

    @studio57
Plus- anyone who has gotten used to listening to their Ipod on shuffle instead of by artist, this is like having your own personal mix

    THIS.

Q3 And Sleepwalker could be played on the pop-country crossover station in Tupelo, MS is a minute.
AND THIS. is why I think it will be a big hit. People love that crossover shit. Guess I do too because I am lovin’ that snippet.

I love all kinds of music though. My iPod is quite electic.

  • mmb

Aftermath actually reminds me of 70s/80s rock ballady (but not quite a ballad) stuff — has a bit of a Boston vibe, but updated…i like it! Damn, I’m psyched…must focus on the pile of documents on my desk

  • ptslittlecomment

Based on the snippets I like A Loaded Smile, Music Again, Sleepwalker, Aftermath and Broken Open the best. And maybe not in that order.

At least on first listen. That might change.

  • ptslittlecomment

    Sorry, clicked twice

  • gangreen29

I liked several of the tracks. I like Broken Open, Fever, If I had You, Sure Fire Winners, and Music Again (despite how cheesy it sounds). Sleepwalker sounds sort of like a Jordin Sparks song and it made me burst out laughing. I really don’t like most of the slow songs, they are too morose, but they appeal to a certain type of fan, and there is no way they would be released as singles so it is fine. I would give the overall album a B+. I would put it ahead of most of the first Idol releases, probably only behind Carrie and Daughtry (not a Daughtry fan but his album was a hit machine and was great for what it was).

  • DLee

AND HE DIDN’T CHANGE THE PRONOUNS ON FEVER’ ¦.GO ADAM!!!! I was so scared that would happen!!!

Huh? What pronouns? Maybe I’m not hearing the lyrics right, but I don’t hear any pronouns at all on this snippet.

Sounds like he says “here ee comes” ee could be short for he or she I suppose. Sounds more like it was meant to be he.

  • jumpstart

So far, I really like what I hear. Can we just have the damn album NOW?

  • midwifespal

    can I just add:
rhyming “met ya” with “reason de etra” = pure f*ckin genius!! Love the audacity!

  • DLee

The only one that I didn’t totally fall for was If I Had You, and that was just because it sounded to me like standard Gaga, and I REALLY LIKE standard Gaga’“I think she’s awesome’“so there you go!

I thought “If I had you” was Pink. Isn’t FEVER Gaga’s?

  • Chicagolaw

In terms of iTunes, maybe someone realized that the majority of Adam’s fanbase has probably already purchased the single from AO; and they are giving the song another week or so to get radio play in order to bring in more of the general audience for iTunes sales.

  • http://www.twitter.com/halfie6 halfie

I think it’s, “There IT goes, you stole my soul,”

No gender-specific pronouns in the snippet. Halfie has spoken. :P

  • midwifespal

And for the person who commented that this music justifies the overthetop album cover: TOTALLY

  • Lynneville

I think that verse says “there IT goes, you stole my soul”

    can I just add:
rhyming ‘met ya’ with ‘reason de etra’ = pure f*ckin genius!! Love the audacity!

LOL I wondered how many people picked up on that! I agree – very clever and unexpected. ;)

ETA: and since I love French and some people may not know the phrase, raison d’etre means “reason for being.”

  • midwifespal

I thought ‘If I had you’ was Pink. Isn’t FEVER Gaga’s?

yup, Fever was Gagas–I just meant that If I had you SOUNDED like Gaga. I think Whataya Want from Me is the pink song.

Gah. Block quote fail. switch the indentations around. can’t edit.

  • larchcat

Wow. Its always when I decide to go away that things happen. I guess a watched pot never boils.

Anyway, promised myself I would be objective about Adam although that is hard. And frankly, there have been moments of worry. But I can honestly say, based on these snippets, this album is going to be fantastic. And truthfully, I just don’t have that much confidence in the Music biz anymore. I seriously cannot believe they let him make this album this way but thank God they did. Because, I truly, truly think this album is gonna be like PURPLE RAIN. Yeah. I said it. Purple Rain. Epic. Because seriously, you couldn’t put Purple Rain or Prince in a category. Rock? Pop? New Wave? Dance? R&B? Funk? All of that and none of that all at once. Prince is just Prince and Adam is just Adam. I may be criticized for being premature and OTT but It’s my opinion and I’m entitled to it. I truly didn’t think it would have as many strong tracks as it does.

And, it actually seems like they paid attention to track order, which used to be a big deal and is what made classic albums in the vinyl days so cohesive. It’s in EXACTLY the right order. So shuffle if you want, but there is no need.

    OK Track by Track.

Music Again – I love this. So SWEET, QUEEN, etc. You wanted glam rock, bitches? This is it!

FYE – While his voice his the least distinctive on parts of this track, now that I have heard the rest of the track snippets, absoulutely convinced they made the right choice here. And it will be great live. It is addicting.

Whataya - Agree with most peeps here. Kind of generic. But its fine.

Strut – So worried about this one since I’m pretty anti Kara but it is great. This is the one that most reminds me of Prince. Maybe this is Orianthi? And, lest ye not forget, ye who are loving the idea of a female shredder, before there was her, Prince, a fantastic guitarist himself, had the incredible Wendy Melvoin. (Just an aside!)

Soaked. Holy Crap! You want THE VOICE ? There it is. THe orchestra is there. So effing gorgeous. Matt Bellamy, I love you.

Sure Fire Winners – Couldnt’ really get the feel of this one but the lyrics are FANTASTIC!

A Loaded Smile. Love IT! So Cosmic sounding! Reminds me of Berlin. Which is very good.

If I Had You – Very dancy – IMO FYE is much better, But again its fine. The weakest songs on this album are still OK and that doesn’t happen often.

Pick U UP – Yup, with the majority here again. Expected more of Rivers Cuomo. Kind of a throwaway. Hopefully full track will be better.

Sleepwalker. His voice sounds great, but just can’t deal with the Tedder sound.

Aftermath. Wow, I actually love this – I don’t hear it as a David Cook song at all. It’s very rockin and has a cool late 80′s pop metal vibe to me kind of like a lost track off of Def Leppards’ Hysteria. LOVE IT

Broken Open – So Great for the last track. So etheral. Again THE VOICE.

Anyway, someone on here a few days ago quoted the line from the film High Fidelity about how difficult it was to make a great mix tape, bringing it up, cooling it down, etc. So true. And they so got it right.

Awesome Adam. You did it. Wow.

  • Tristessa

I can totally imagine Strut and Fever being possible other singles from the album.

I also adore Music Again (this one actually made me smile, I love it), Soaked and Broken Open (for some reason, I hear Tori Amos singing this).

If I Had You is my least favorite, only because it sounds sort of generic. Whataya Want From Me is towards the bottom as well.

My boyfriend hates Sure Fire Winners but I really like it. Has good club remix potential.

I think the full version of Pick U Up might be a lot better than the snippet, if other Weezer songs are anything to go by. They are usually quite quirky with a lot of changes, I’m really curious to hear the whole thing.

  • lucy

I would give the overall album a B+. I would put it ahead of most of the first Idol releases, probably only behind Carrie and Daughtry (not a Daughtry fan but his album was a hit machine and was great for what it was).

Yep. Totally agree. And on hearing the full songs, I expect I may even end up pushing it into A territory.

Plus, even better, for the first time, I actually personally like one of the high-quality Idol debut albums (since modern country pop and Nickelback are really not my thing.)

As someone else mentioned, wonder whether it turned out so well because Adam pushed it or because when they have somebody they truly believe could be a major star, they actually try a lot harder to put out an album that might actually be a hit.

Really love the way his voice does weave the whole thing together, just the way he said it would.

  • http://www.planetfierce.proboards.com rowenaaine

Ooh, we need lyrics. I thought he said “There he goes, he stole my so-and-so…” But only one listen with cheap earbuds while worrying someone comes up behind me at work, can’t say I’m right.

    And if halfie has spoken…well…..;)

  • DLee

My head is spinning….I thought I knew who wrote each song, who played on each song…who talked about what they heard and what they thought….. and now with the music in front of me I can’t even think straight….Must have a FEVER!!!

    People! Come on!

He’s definitely singing “There HE goes” and after a few verses he sings “HE knows me”

Why would he change it anyway? He would only change stuff when it was about girls … Yay Adam!!

Making me smile FlowerGirl! Yea, a loaded smile. Want to hear all the lyrics for that one.

  • emmuzka

Okay, I’m officially in team “Fever for the next single!” now. It sounds very Scissors Sisters, by the way.

And then a slow song, preferably “Broken Open”, or “Sleepwalker” if “Broken Open” is too weird for radio.

I’m also very taken by “Strut”, but not that much by “Sure Fire winners”, “If I Had You” and “Whataya Want For Me”. “If I had You sounds so 80s its hilarious. Will need to hear whole songs to make a judgement on these :)

  • larchcat

ACK! How could I forget Fever?

    Epic fail on me!

Its probabl ygonna the best song on the album! Love the lower register, attitude, the song. Hope this is the second single! I have gone back and forth on Lady Gaga, but first she gives Poker Face to South Park for a Cartman worthy rendition, and then gives Adam this. Yea, she gets it. AWESOME

  • Studio57

Who did the guitar on Strut? Is that the Orianthi one? Cuz it was GOOD.

Aww, screw it- every time I listen another one pulls me in and makes me ant to change my favorite. Now I love everything but:

Sure Fire Winners (just don’t like the first few seconds of the snippet- the restt of it sounds really good).

If I had You- but it IS going to be a club hit.

Pick U Up- Please, please let it just be the snippet. It’s WEEZER for crying out loud and I heart them!

  • sunchick

The clips haven’t changed my lack of clarity on whether I want to buy the whole album or poach my favorite tracks.

Yeah, that’s where I’m falling as well. I don’t agree that the same voice singing all the songs, no matter how extraordinary that voice may be, is enough to create a cohesive whole. I’ve been biting my tongue as the list of collaborators grew and grew, hoping that Adam worked with someone in some sort of executive producer capacity to cherry pick the songs that would work together as a whole and make the extra effort to find some sort of key elements or common ground in each tune, like the electronic influences or the lyrical content. Maybe that will happen when we hear full length versions.

  • greeneyedlady

My thoughts exactly. Let it radio play since Adam Stans have already purchased it through AO. We’ll see. I’ve been consistently surprised but the roll out has been perfect so far. IMO.

  • Janus

All I can say from hearing the sound bites, Adam has kicked it out of the arena! This is going to be one hot hot album! I’m so very happy with all the different styles (especially can’t wait to hear Music Again, absolutely love the retro-glam, yet modernized sound).

So, to loosely quote Billy Joe Armstrong: Wake me up when November 21st ends.

  • BestAI

You guys already picked favorites? I can’t decide. They are all so good, and different things make me love one, then the next one, then the next one.

ETA: I’v bought so many albums where the songs sound alike. What brilliance, Adam, to mix it up. So, Adam, why do that? Cuz you could.

  • anthrogeek

Holy freakin’ crap, people!! I came here expecting to find out whether iTunes had FYE yet, and instead, I find… I find… THIS!!!! I’m practically speechless that this stuff is as good and as varied as it is! I rarely bother with snippets because they don’t really tell the story, but these snippets not only speak volumes about the quality of this album, but they speak a veritable epic tome!! Every track sounds different enough that my fear of one long song has completely vanished, along with my dread that it might be all over-produced electronica. The haunting vocals on Broken Open and the power rock…oh, CRAP! I’m too busy squeeing to sort it all out! SQUEEEEEE!!!!

  • DLee

I can’t wait to hear the rest of BROKEN OPEN.

  • http://twitter.com/Shantilux Lux

I looove the album, it surpassed my expectations really, those are really good songs!! something for every taste, I like uptempos and ballads the same so my favorites so far are: Fever, Strut, Music again,SFWinners, Sleep Walker, Loaded Smile, Soaked and Broken Open, of course FYE.

    Pick U Up

  • sanduskyday

Adam the 80′s called and they want their music back. Seriously disappointed based on the clips but hoping the full songs will change my mind as it’s always dangerous to base opinions on clips. Maybe the overhype also caused my expectations to be too high.

  • sdmama

I never use these shorthands, but I have to make an exception today.

    OMG!

I started to hyper-ventiate with joy and excitement when I went through the snippets. I started to like FYE more, but it is not my favorite by a long shot among all these amazing songs. I hope somebody kept journal of selection process and someday publish it for our entertainment.

These are ALL great songs. I imagine multiple songs going up on the chart. The first round of competion is over when the songs were chosen. The second round of competion starts to see which ones will go up higher? If I were the song writer/producer, my nails will be gone by Christmas from over chewing.

Now, please put these things for SALE, so that anybody can buy them! Wny isn’t FYE not for sale yet? And why is UK stores have act together than US stores? Is this the indication that Adam is more popular there than here? Am I reading too much into it? I am stunned Amazon UK is always the first one that we hear things from.

  • suebrody

I have no idea who wrote what, except Muse (Matt Bellamy), Fever (Pink, right? Or no?), Sleepwalker (Ely/Allisan) and Aftermath (Aimee/Ferras).

    Here are my favorites:

    Soaked (OMG yes)
    A Loaded Smile (so pretty)
    Aftermath (ballad sound, very 70s)
    Sleepwaker (also beautiful)
    Broken Up (ditto)’
Pick u Up (U, lol), good HAC vibe
TfM (seriously, guys, GIVE IT ANOTHER CHANCE!)

    Next category
If I had You (dancey, great vibe)
    Strut (ditto)
FTW (still good, catchy, not my favorite, not a bad lead song)

    Final cateroy
    Music Again (just no)
Fever (dance club, but not my thing)
Sure Fire Winners (total ugh for me)

I think I got them all, tho I don’t know who wrote what. Don’t care right now. Need to do RL work, but can listen whilst doing so (data entry today, blah).

  • 4evrmomof4

Funny, that people here are talking about Purple Rain.

I had a non idol watching 29 year old listen to FYE last night and again this morning.

First impression, sounds like PRINCE, love it. 2nd listen today? I stand by what I said yesterday, it really does sound like Prince…will be a hit and great club tune!!!! He said, I could imagine all the couples dancing and hitting it to this song, he said, ya gotta with those lyrics and beats….

  • Dallas

You know what I am loving? The fact that everyone has a different favorite but nobody is hating on any of them. To paraphrase what Adam has been telling us:

Something for everyone, very eclectic, very retro, very glam, rock with futuristic touch, poppy, dancey, rock ballads

I just never believed that one album could actually have all of the above. I just thought the album was fluid and going through changes! Ha!

  • Natasha

I’m going to make an easy guess that ‘Fever’ will be the second single. Then, ‘Sleepwalker’ will be the first ballad released. I think I might like it a lot. It’s not as beautiful as ‘Soaked’ or as haunting as ‘Loaded Smile’ or as gorgeous as ‘Broken Open.’ But, it is the most radio-friendly and hit-worthy of the ballads.

I think ‘Loaded Smile’ is going to end up being a stunner once we can hear the whole thing.

Totally agree. Fever is HOT baby!! Love it!! Agree on Loaded Smile too. It’s so ethereal.

I like everything I heard across the board. Can’t really judge on snippets but this album could actually live up to it’s hype which would be pretty extraordinary.

  • larchcat

Well, I’m just thrilled to be inside so many of your heads. You have such beautfiul cerebelli . . .

Seriously, I’m glad so many of us agree this will be great.

ETA: Everyone (almost everyone) will find songs they will love. How often is THAT the case? I think radio will as well. BTW, MJ, you got mentioned at yes.com. ;)

  • mmb

Interesting how some people seem to LOVE the glam stuff and like the more straightforward pop stuff less, and some people LOVE the pop stuff and not the glam stuff…I like it all, but am finding the glam stuff to sound really fresh and new while still nodding to the past

  • Frozen

Loved Soaked and Fever, Music Again too, the others are okay, but i hate the P!nk’s song

  • Elspeth

Awesome! Not feeling Loaded Smile or Pick U Up and Soaked was a bit overhyped I think but overall this album is totally awesome!

I’m interested in Aftermath because I wouldn’t be surprised if it was used like Daughtry’s Home as the exit song this year on Idol.

Music again is totally Queen. Love it.
    Broken Open and Sleepwalker-beautiful.

    Kara can now be forgiven.

Favorites: Fever, Sleepwalker, and Sure Fire Winners.

    Yes I’m a sucker for electropop! :)

This album is everything that Adam said it was!! *squees and flails in 30 second snippets*

  • jack5791

I know I’m the minority probably here, but I’m disappointed with how the album turned out. There are a few promising songs, and I do really like the single, but the others, based on these clips anyway, are way overproduced and really don’t show his great voice. It reminds me very much of Blake’s album, and I don’t really have that high of expectations for it.

  • anthrogeek

Another thought about the fear of that it might be one long overproduced electronica sound – that stuff is popular now and comes and goes with the trends in music history, and I really wanted him to record something classic that stands the test of time, just exactly the way classic rock, glam rock, and funk of the 70s and 80s has done – and it really sounds to me like he’s managed to do exactly that. And if I can deduce that from a couple of mere snippets, I cannot WAIT for the whole damn album! Yes, Adam, I CAN handle what you’re ’bout to do!!! Hurt me, baby!!!

  • BestAI

I just thought of another thing. His tour. OMG, his tour. He won’t ever have to sing a cover because every one of his songs are incredible. Just can’t wait to hear all of these live. I know, I know, first things first. THE ALBUM.

  • Ladyguard

I was so afraid. I shouldn’t have been and trusted Adam. This cd has surpassed my expectations. It’s been a long time since a cd has stirred me this much.

  • beehiway

I can’t pick a favorite either. Expect my favorite will rotate as I play the album over and over again just like my favorite AI performance rotated the more I listened to the collection.

  • Sassycatz

I seriously cannot believe they let him make this album this way but thank God they did. Because, I truly, truly think this album is gonna be like PURPLE RAIN.

Purple Rain was a cohesive work considering it was the soundtrack to a movie.

Interesting how some people seem to LOVE the glam stuff

I wonder if we could even get consensus on what the “glam stuff” is. (and that’s not a bad thing, necessarily)

  • lifeisgood

    I think I love:
    11. Sleepwalker

    Like:
    14. Time for Miracles

Not sure yet from the snippets :
    3. Whataya Want From Me
    5. Soaked
    12. Aftermath
    13. Broken Open
    7. A Loaded Smile
    8. If I Had You
    9. Pick U Up

  • Studio57

Anyway, someone on here a few days ago quoted the line from the film High Fidelity about how difficult it was to make a great mix tape, bringing it up, cooling it down, etc. So true. And they so got it right.

That was me!!!! lol! It’s a quote from my favorite movie High Fidelity:

The making of a great compilation tape, like breaking up, is hard to do and takes ages longer than it might seem. You gotta kick off with a killer, to grab attention. Then you got to take it up a notch, but you don’t wanna blow your wad, so then you got to cool it off a notch. There are a lot of rules

Halfie- the only thing really glammy to me from the snippets are Fever, Music Again and Strut- maybe SFW but I can’t really tell from the snippet

Thanks Studio57! Yes, a great line from a great movie. Thanks for repeating it again because it is exactly what I think they have achieved with FYE!

  • Mary102

Does this sound like a new sound to you, like Rob Cavallo said? I mean, a new-old sound of course, because Queen, Bowie, etc are like splattered all over this album (in a great way), but with the modern dance beats, etc, it sounds new to me’“excitingly new, but I’m a certified ignoramous and I’d love to hear from those of you who aren’t.

IDK – it sounds, in many ways EXACTLY like what Adam promised and what I expected. It’s eclectic, got a little bit of something for everyone (yea!) but it also fuses the old with the new in terms of 1970s/80s electro elements on top of what could be modern dance hits. Some of them are a little too far in the old (Music Again) – which I still like, btw. But others do a better job of fusing the two into a more modern style.

  • jpfan

Well it sounds well produced and his voice sounds good. They’re solid songs at least from the snippets. Some of them do sound a bit “80s” or something. And I’m not hearing anything really alternative or electronic.

I don’t love it or hate it.

  • merrymary

I have never looked forward to an album this much!! These snippets have surpassed my expectations and I can’t wait to hear all of the songs in full. I am especially excited about music again, soaked and fever.

  • LoveContinuum

I definately hear Queen and Prince. A touch of Erasure too.

Based on these snippets, this will be a blockbuster album. Well done Adam.

  • beehiway

Studio57, thanks for that quote. Love that movie as well. John Cusack rocks.

  • Studio57

Oh- hey guys i just remembered this is the UK album- aren’t there different singles on this one than from the US one?

beehiway- you’re welcome! So many good quotes in that movie!

  • SybilTrelawney

Lyndsey Parker loved Music Again — said it was her fave from the tracks she heard — but I can’t tell from the snippet. Sounds a little like Queen, so it’s probably going to be good, but Adam’s voice is muffled/processed in the snippet, which is frustrating.

I really like Strut and Whaddaya Want From Me, and Soaked.

Why are these things available in other countries and not the US?

  • Daytripper73

I LOVE Music Again and Strut. Sleepwalker, If I Had You, Aftermath and Whataya Want From Me are just sort of eh so far. I’ll definitely buy most of the songs. The cd sounds to me exactly what Adam promised it would be. Good for him and good for RCA for finally not screwing up a runner ups cd.

  • mmb

I wonder if we could even get consensus on what the ‘glam stuff’ is. (and that’s not a bad thing, necessarily)

I would say Music Again, Strut, Sure Fire Winners and Fever all have a glam vibe

  • jpfan

Oops, I can’t edit. My only criticism right now is some of it doesn’t sound modern or current enough. But it’s hard to judge on snippets. The rock songs actually sound a tad Bon Jovish. ;) I don’t hear any Bowie though.

  • zorana84

His tour will be the most EPIC thing ever… I’m so happy…He promised he’d surprise us, that he wouldn’t fit into any one genre. I doubted him I will admit, I didn’t think it was possible for a post-idol album to be all those things, but he did it. Thank you Adam, you make me want to listen to music again :)

  • Mary102

Ok, I can honestly say that I have only bought ONE other AI alum album (Daughtry) and even that (much as I loved him) was more of a “wanting to help him out” (not that he needed it!) gesture, because despite the big hits on it, it was a little less daring and edgy than I would have liked.

That said, Adam’s album is sounding absolutely AMAZING! Particularly as an AI album! So many different styles, and truly something for everyone! The dance songs are fun and cool and sexy, the ballads are aching and lovely and dark (not at all cheesy and lame like so many others).

    Oh, so happy for him!

  • 4Msrmyn

Someday, I’d like to hear the story of how this album was put together. I mean who had how much influence over the final package. Just wonder if there are any songs he didn’t want or songs left off he wanted. This album sounds like ALL Adam to me.

  • tierbee

I think I’ll be buying some of the songs and not others, we’ll see. Hard to tell from snippets, I think I remember liking totally different songs on Cookie’s albums from what I thought I’d love based on snippets. I suspect I’ll like the slower stuff. Maybe one of the more rock-ish upbeat ones can join my workout playlist on my iPod ;)

  • austintoo

I really think I love it all. Music Again, Soaked, Loaded Smile, Broken Open, Sleepwalker, etc. It’s pretty amazing.

  • jms

From the little bit of the snippet of If I Had You, I’m thinking it might have the same type of mixed retro sounds that Pink’s Funhouse does. The opening to the snippet had me worried with the total 80′s vibe (I can’t identify the exact song they used, but just like pink did, they pulled the melody straight from an 80′s tune), but then it switches to a more modern sound and I’m wondering if there’s another one or two melodies fused in also.

Gah!! How am I supposed to retain my sanity as I wait to hear the CD in its entirety to find out the answers to all these questions????

  • BeckyMD

seriously, I need this album NOW!!

  • Mary102

And now I have FYE running non-stop in my head :-) LOL! Thanks for another day of unproductivity, Adam ;-)

  • Destry

    I love:
    Strut
    Soaked
    A Loaded Smile
    Fever
    Sleepwalker
    Broken Open
    FYE

    I like:
    Music Again
    Aftermath
    TFM

Not crazy about (but need to hear the whole song):
    Whataya Want From Me
    Sure Fire Winners
    Pick You Up
    If I had You

  • CindyM

This album sounds like ALL Adam to me.

Yes!!! I agree with this completely, 4Msrmyn. Especially if you’ve listened to any of Adam’s pre-idol work, these snippets sound like he’s put all the influences he loves on this album! You can’t completely tell from snippets, but that’s one thing I had no doubt about listening to the snippets, it’s Adam!! I was so afraid, based on the info from people here who have been entrenched in Idol for so long, that Adam’s vision or description of what his album would be like would get tamped down or stifled. I’m so glad from the snippets that it seems like that wasn’t the case!! This is my first time on the Idol merry-go-round like this and I’m having a great time squeeing and flailing…Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!!

  • FlowerGirl

Sure Fire Winners is fast becoming my 2nd fave (after SOAKED!). Love that picture in my mind of BB Adam in glitter, leather and lace!

  • suebrody

Oops, I can’t edit. My only criticism right now is some of it doesn’t sound modern or current enough. But it’s hard to judge on snippets. The rock songs actually sound a tad Bon Jovish. ;)

See, that’s the think for me. I think mid-tempo sounds are of the Kings of Leon/Nickleback/Daughtry flair (but MUCH better), in particular Aftermath. The dancey songs, like Fever, FYE, Music Again, and Sure Fire Winners, are very popular as well, in the BEP/Kanye West/.Jamie Foxx/GaGa way. And the ballads could also do well (when you think of James Morrison, perhaps, and of course MUSE). So you do get a major variety. Besides Music Again, which I JUST DO NOT LIKE, I am happy with all of them. Different strokes for different folks. He promised this, he delivered. BTW, my HAC station plays Daughtry, Lighthouse, Nickleback, Kings of Leon, and the like all the time, along with older fare like Aerosmith and Bon Jovi. (OH, and Taylor Swift, kill me.) So I think Mix will be playing cuts from this album A LOT. *hopeful*

SO HAPPY. I still think iTunes should put this out for download. Maybe it makes ppl go to AO, but for the many ppl who do know of AO, where can they go for downloads? I see only six ADDs to date…

I’ve been listening and tweeting all morning. I’m in heaven.

My fav’s are Music Again and Soaked.

    sunchick

I don’t agree that the same voice singing all the songs, no matter how extraordinary that voice may be, is enough to create a cohesive whole. I’ve been biting my tongue as the list of collaborators grew and grew, hoping that Adam worked with someone in some sort of executive producer capacity to cherry pick the songs that would work together as a whole and make the extra effort to find some sort of key elements or common ground in each tune, like the electronic influences or the lyrical content…

Well, I’m not an expert but seems like the title, For Your Entertainment, says it all… something for everyone… dance beats like Fever for the club goers and music lovers in general who like to shake their booties & Soaked for those wanting to hear soaring lyrics that Adam sings oh so well…

Although Adam has been influenced by other artists, I think he has molded this CD into something not only current, but with a brand new sound. I predicted 4 hits off his very first CD even before hearing the Amazon.com UK clips. I am standing even more firmly behind my prediction after hearing the snippets. 8)

  • BeckyMD

Did you catch the lyrics in SureFireWinners? I was born with glitter on my face, my baby clothes made of leather and lace.

I want Adam make a visual presence of this one line of lyrics.

  • Studio57

Yeah, that’s where I’m falling as well. I don’t agree that the same voice singing all the songs, no matter how extraordinary that voice may be, is enough to create a cohesive whole. I’ve been biting my tongue as the list of collaborators grew and grew, hoping that Adam worked with someone in some sort of executive producer capacity to cherry pick the songs that would work together as a whole and make the extra effort to find some sort of key elements or common ground in each tune, like the electronic influences or the lyrical content. Maybe that will happen when we hear full length versions.

I think you are going to be disappointed then. Adam has said from day 1 the album would be like this. You do not have to buy the album. I absolutely LOVE that he did this, and I am sure those that have realized long ago that the “album” as we know it is deader than a doornail will love it too.

Kings Of Leon is the first album I bought in years. i bought it because I loved three songs on it. I was actually pretty disappointed with the rest because after the first three songs ( Sex On Fire, Use Somebody, and Notion) the rest started to be TOO cohesive- they all sounded alike. i don’t think Adam is going to have this problem at all.

“FYE, Music Again, and Sure Fire Winners, are very popular as well, in the BEP/Kanye West/.Jamie Foxx/GaGa way.”

Wow, I really disagree with this. Those songs have no urban edge to them at all. That may be a problem for them in getting radio play. The rock stuff may do better on HAC but again it might lack some edge.

I like the album but I would not say it has surefire hits in it. Of course, based on snippets, it’s pretty useless to make any predictions. ;)

Was it officially announced that FYE was going to iTunes? I know today is the Top 40 adds date for sure.

  • listen

Just listened to all the snippets and I am thrilled with what I heard. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this album has exceeded my expectations. Exactly what Adam promised !!

Really amazed that almost every snippet sounds like something I will like. Need to hear the full versions, of course, but still, based on what I heard so far, Adam is going to put out a great debut album

Didn’t think he would be able to pull it off, BUT HE DID !!!
Adam’s voice is truly amazing and it is not over processed, not at all.

The line-up is great and TfM fits in at the end, perfectly.

Now I need to go back and listen again , and again, and again.

By the way, Broken Open is just gorgeous !

  • daenarys

The songs I’d like to check out:

-Whatta ya want from me (I’m biased – Pink can do no wrong lol)
-Soaked (both the Muse and Adam versions)
-Fever (I liked the way he put on an affected lower vox on the verse but am not into the electronica’d chorus. OTOH I looooooved the more stripped down ladygaga version – first time I liked anything I’ve heard from her so far)
    -Sleepwalker
    -Broken Open

  • http://onlinepastrychef.wordpress.com/ onlinepastrychef

Judging by how “Adam” this album is sounding, based on the wee snatches we get to hear right now, I have no doubt that before long, our Glittery Boy will, indeed, get to have flames coming out of his f*cking head! He’ll just say the word, and the folks at 19 will call Bob Mackey to create a custom-made, bedazzled flaming headdress. And it will be Good. :D

So excited and happy for Adam! And, although I don’t have any real right to be, I am very proud of him. Well done, Adam.

I really think that L’Oreal or someone needs to get him to push their hair dyes. If anyone personifies the power of a head full of black and blue hair, it’s Adam. Not sure that any of this would have happened for him if he still looked like Opie Taylor. Shallow, maybe, and I’m not necessarily proud of myself for thinking it, but I think it might be true. He was born with that voice, and good on him for having the savvy to package it in pretty/edgy/sexy/glittery/leathery wrappings!

  • LaurelG

I would say Music Again, Strut, Sure Fire Winners and Fever all have a glam vibe

I would third or fourth this. Sure Fire Winners sounds like a song he would have performed in The Zodiac Show. I can just picture him in some bespangled, bedazzled and beleathered outfit. The Queen influences in Music Again are unmistakable.

To me, If I Had You is more clubby, dancey and I completely agree with whoever said this song is ripe for a dance remix. By the way, did Kara G. and Greg Wells really write If I Had You? I know they’re listed as the writers but I wasn’t sure if that had been irrefutably confirmed.

  • Ellie2

I can’t remember the last time I bought a cd and loved every single song on it. But For Your Entertainment is going to change that; I can tell already. It’s almost impossible to pick a favorite song because they are all so good and so different and offer something for every taste and mood. And his voice is amazing on every single one! OMG, November 23rd needs to get here RIGHT NOW!

  • sidewalkstory

When I listen to Whataya Want From Me, I do not hear Adam; I only hear Pink. I don’t feel this way for Lady GaGa’s song, Fever. It completely works for Adam.

I love every snippet, with the exception of Whataya Want From Me. The snippet makes it sound a little generic. Thank Ra the debut single was FYE and not this one. Although I like TFM, it really doesn’t belong on this album, however.

It really does, doesn’t it? Based on what little we knew up till the release of FYE and then the stark difference between TFM and FYE, I assumed it would stick out like a sore thumb, but it really seems to fit right in, after all. That’s vocal virtuosity for ya.

Cannot wait for the AMAs!! Forget Flaming Headress – think Flaming Codpiece!! It doesn’t even have to be lit to be smokin’ HOT!!

  • Chicagolaw

I can’t believe I am addicted to these 30 sec. snippets!

Fever has to be the 2nd single, it is insane.

I am also loving Sleepwalker, Whataya Want From Me, and Aftermath more and more each time.

Broken Open is beautiful, as is Soaked (love Muse)

And, I can’t believe that I actually really like Music Again which, from Lyndsey’s description, I expected to hate. It has such a fun vibe–definitely hear Queen/Mika

  • sunchick

I absolutely LOVE that he did this, and I am sure those that have realized long ago that the ‘album’ as we know it is deader than a doornail will love it too.

Maybe I will be disappointed, and maybe I won’t buy the album and just download a couple singles. Maybe Adam and the label would be thrilled with that anyway. That’s fine. I have been holding off expressing my concerns over the whole “the voice ties it together” idea hoping my gut feeling was wrong. Whatevs. It doesn’t change my opinion that Adam is a fearless, dynamic performer and I will be there to plunk down mah money when he tours. But I gotta say, reports of the “album’s” death have been greatly exaggerated. I’d like to think someone somewhere will always care about the album as a concept rather than a marketing tool for a bunch of singles. Kinda reminds me of the people who used to say that episodic well crafted TV drama was dead and reality shows would completely take over television. It hasn’t happened yet, and the two still coexist.

RE: Purple Rain comparisons…Prince wrote that entire album with his band. Yeah, it’s a fusion of his core funkadelic sound with some pop and rock influences, but the driving creative force throughout the album is all Prince.

I think you might have misunderstood me sunchick. I said the album “as we know it” is dead . I am sure there are some really good bands out there that will have a great cohesive album from beginning to end, but people for the most part listen to mixes now, not albums. Hell, I can’t even get my kids to listen to a whole SONG anymore, lol. I think I can probably name on one ( maybe two if I try hard) hand how many albums I have loved from beginning to end ( excluding the whole 70′s era, which produced a whole shitload of them).

Nice review! I see that Rivers Cuomo wrote “Pick U Up,” which partly explains why I like it so much (Weeeeezer’s new album drops today, and they are playing in Boston next month; I might go to see them).

This is the picture I wanted on the album cover. lol As if… ;)

ETA: Whata Want from Me is one of my favorites. Remember, I am of the slower ballad/mid-tempo song framework (MW!!!). But no complaints, except for Music Again. Just no.

No add’l adds yet today? :(

  • HotHotHot

These snippets all sound great but I really want to hear the full songs before I chose. Sometimes full soungs sound better and sometimes the snippet is the best part of the song, not that I think that will happen. It’s all good and I can hardly wait to get my hands on this album. And add me to the bunch who are glad this album is so diverse. I haven’t bought many albums for the last few years because if you buy one or two songs, you know what they all sound like.

  • KLI

Love it all not surprisingly, but particularly like the music that has attitude–Fever and Strut. I love the “with attitude” Adam. In fact, I REALLY like Fever. Lady Gaga is a fabulous songwriter. So glad they included this tune. It should do great on radio.

Music Again so reminds me of Mika at the beginning. Mika’s most recent album is fab–so well produced. You can definitely hear the Queen/Freddy Mercury influence in Mika’s work the same way you can in FYE. It all links together.

Can’t wait for the full album. I’m surprised there isn’t more elctro pop sound in here. I think this was the identity crisis Adam was referring to when the tour was done. WLL was so well received on tour, I think he went more in a rock direction here than electro pop. That being said, I love FYE as the first single. It’s a great manifesto for what is to come!

Wow! I am actually blown away by these song snippets. I really feel like Adam lived up to every promise he made. The songs are totally different and showcase different parts of his range and taste. I particularly enjoyed Pick U Up, Sleepwalker, Fever and I kind of feel a big sobfest coming on when I hear Soaked in it’s entirety. Could his voice sound more beautiful? I think not. WTF iTunes?

  • golcook

I’m very impressed to see everybody is loving this album, but when Lady GaGa was on Idol nobody liked her or her music, when Adam is her male version, and I mean it in the whole extension of the concept (the exaggeration, the androginy looks, the electro retro pop sound), Red One really wanted to make a GaGa clone, and he has truly achieved it.

Es for his debut album, it’s not that bad, I really like some of the songs like Whataya Want From Me (My favorite by far), Sleepwalker, Pick U Up and Sure Fire Wins. I’m sure he’s going to do well with FYE.

OMG, Soaked and Music Again, djfkdkdljfldjfslfjdedfjdkf!!!! I got chills and goosebump listening to 10 seconds of Soaked and I wasn’t even a Muse fan who liked the demo. Sleepwalker is my other favorite, so radio friendly and I love the One Republic sound. Gosh, what a relief, I seriously love everything I heard. Way to go Adam.

Red One really wanted to make a GaGa clone, and he has truly achieved it.

Except that there doesn’t seem to be any songs produced by RedOne on this album…

  • glamatheart

I love FYE as the first single. It’s a great manifesto for what is to come!

YES!!! That’s why I love FYE so much. I just grin like an idiot when Adam sings “Can you handle what I’m ’bout to do?” IMO, this is the REAL meaning of the song. It was the ideal selection and now I’m weak from listening to these snippets.(LOL) The only thing I would change is the album cover. Yep, I still can’t get into it. Everything else – perfection.

Posted this in headlines, but it belongs here too!

Great article from MTV featuring Rivers Cuomo and Adam mentions:

From Rivers: Then I was invited to sit in with Adam Lambert and watch him sing, and he was checking out the song. And as it turns out, he came up with a few ideas for it for himself, changed the melody around, suggested some lyric changes and before you knew it, I was writing a song with Adam Lambert.”

And I loved this quote from him:

Cuomo clearly enjoyed his time with Lambert and was phenomenally impressed with his instrument. “He has the most amazing voice. It’s exactly the kind of voice I convince myself I have on my best day, but of course I’m nowhere near that amazing,” he said.

Except, I don’t think Red One has anything on this album. Definitely think there was a change in direction somewhere along the way, and a decision to go more “rock,” with the inclusion of Cavallo, Bensen, even Teddar. I, for one, am glad.

  • bjames

Loving “soaked”, but the rest is just too much for me. Happy for Adam though.

I have never been one to buy albums just to run up an artists sales but I must say that I would have no problem gifting this album to almost everyone I know because I am confident there there would be more than one song that each recipient would love; well, except perhaps for my dad who really only listens to Grande Ole Opry, but even then he loves me and would listen once just to find out what kind of music I like. And what kind of music do I like…..all of this!

Funny, because we don’t even know if Redone has a producing credit on the album. Who’s “nobody”?? I fricken loved Lady Gaga when she performed on Idol. I like someone who’s artistic and brave creatively. Beats the dreck that’s so prevalent on Idol most of the time.

  • http://www.irish-wolfhounds.com Buderschnookie

    Please elaborate.
    There’s no RedOne here.

I must be one of the few who does not like Strut. Not liking the Pink song much either. Really like the rest. Can’t stop having Fever on repeat. He sounds so yummy….sorry, can’t think of another word right now. Still on repeat.

  • jms

but when Lady GaGa was on Idol nobody liked her or her music

huh? who’s nobody? I love Lady GaGa.

Red One really wanted to make a GaGa clone, and he has truly achieved it.

    - As far as I know Red One did not produce ANY of these tracks
    - Other than the GaGa written Fever, none of these tunes sound remotely like Lady GaGa
    - What Adam has most in common with Lady GaGa is a love of pop music and glam performance. Neither of which is a bad thing in my book.

  • Mary102

^^THIS! Yes – I know all too well how blandified and lame some of the AI first albums can be – and I’m often underwhelmed even when my favs are involved. Adam is so further out there to begin with than any other previous AI alum (with the possible exception of Blake) that I was really really nervous about how blandified 19 would make his album.

But it really, surprisingly, sounds like 19 gave him a lot of free reign to do it his way – these songs really do sound SO Adam to me :-) Love it.

In fact, I REALLY like Fever. Lady Gaga is a fabulous songwriter. So glad they included this tune. It should do great on radio.

Gaga is fab writer. She has a great ear for melody and lyric. But her voice is subpar. That song needed to be tricked out and Adam did that!

Music Again so reminds me of Mika at the beginning. Mika’s most recent album is fab’“so well produced. You can definitely hear the Queen/Freddy Mercury influence in Mika’s work the same way you can in FYE. It all links together.

Definately! I really like Music Again. The voice is Mika-esque and the back-up vocals give the strong Queen flavor.

There is a heavy electronic element. The fact one can’t point to a song a say “electropop” means that Adam has taken away alot of the cheese in that category. There is a heavy rock sound. And I think that is why Adam is having an identity crisis. When you do something new or fused it’s hard to pick a label for yourself. I think it has very little to do with the reception of WLL or alienating his fans. He has always been very open about the type of music he wants to try. I think he’s just shocked that people are gobbling it up. :)

  • suebrody

BeckyMD, be still my heart. Sleepwalker. Sigh.

@OhFerras is getting inundated with tweets (including one from yours truly). Aimee is in South Africa, so I guess she’s busy on a safari. ;) Nothing from Ely or Alisan yet.

ljsmack, I will trade you Music Again for Sleepwalker and Broken Up. ;)

  • jammasta

Adam’s first single, I admit, was terrible. I am hearing so many different sounds from this album that other artists have done. For example, I’m hearing

Katy Perry (If I Had You sounds like Hot’n'Cold)
Flo-Rida (I think it was Strut, but it sounds like Right Round)
*NSYNC (Surefire Winners made me think of some songs they did, like It’s Gonna Be Me).

May not be as original and electro-opus as Lyndsey Parker put it, but is it worth the buy? This Kris fan says hell yes. Based on those 30 second snippets, it may not be the most original sound like we were expecting from Adam, but it’s pretty eclectic. I think most people can like at least 2 songs from the album. For me, so far, I really love tracks 3-7 and 13 (And of course TFM). I don’t really like FYE or If I Had You, though. I’ll have to listen to the rest of them at some point, but I was expecting more electro-rock. I’m glad my expectations were wrong because personally I hate that type of music.

When can we preorder this on iTunes?

  • sanduskyday

I think FYE will do very well as it is/will be pimped to death. Heck it has to do well to make a profit. This level of well known contributors does not come cheap. Upon a second listening to the clips I can pick out one or two songs that are growing on me.
I wish Adam well but it’s also good to keep in mind that this blog (and in fact snobby music reviewers as a whole) is not representative of the general public.

  • tj17

Love the snippets and cannot wait for the full versions! Adam has certainly delivered on all my expectations for his first album. I personally enjoy the more glam upbeat songs! I still am surprised at how many of the songs I think are going to be great hits.

Loving ‘soaked’ , but the rest is just too much for me. Happy for Adam though.

I got good laugh at this because, while I adore what I hear of Soaked in the snippet, it’s so perfectly theatrically Adam, that it’s the type of song that I would expect people to say is “too much for them”. Yours was just a bit startling of an opinion.

  • Dallas

I cannot recall anyone who actually stated that FYE would go to iTunes on a specific date. I think it was a collective theory that went viral.

Sure Fire Winners has me completely and totally hooked. I have listened to it a few more times and I am not sure I will survive until Nov. 23…. lol

I love them all. Cannot complain about any of them. Maybe when I hear the entire song, but for right now, I’m happy feet.

  • gulfluv

I think this is going to be a fun, dancable album. I think Adam is delivering what he promised. My fave from the snippets is Sure Fire Winners, sounds like a very fun song. I am intrigued by Broken Open and its stated 5 min length.

  • saga

    Nice to hear some snippets!

After a few listenings I agree with their single choice. I think Strut should be the second single, love the guitar in that one (Orianthi?).

Whatever my personal taste, this album is clearly totally Adam. A little too retro here and there for my taste, and I don’t like the drums on Soaked.

Like Strut, Soaked, Fever, Sleepwalker. Totally hate If I Had You, can’t stand europop.

  • Natasha

In fact, I REALLY like Fever. Lady Gaga is a fabulous songwriter. So glad they included this tune. It should do great on radio.

Gaga is some kind of genius. I had a feeling I was going to love Fever and I do.

  • Mary102

But no complaints, except for Music Again. Just no.

LOL – suebrody. My reaction to Music Again is sorta like my reaction to the album cover – I love it for being Adam (and as a Queen fan, I do love Adam’s vocals on it, plus the sound of the song), but I think it’s more of one of those “for Adam fans only” things – in terms of probably not being able to reach out to as many new fans because it’s an older sound. Just my take on it.

  • stellamarris

A loaded smile is my fav. also love broken open and sleepwalker. hate all the electro pop sound that sounds like pretty much everyone. i want songs that showcase adam’s voice and make me feel something (i am not necessarily a ballad fan but all the electro sound makes me feel dead inside, even if it has a great rhythm. )

The more I listen to the snippets, the more I like the album. (Glad I pre-purchased it! ) Most of all, I LOVE “SOAKED.” I listened to it over and over by Muse. But with Adam, I listen AND shiver. His voice — with that acoustic background is so full and rich. He is so versatile. No doubt he is THE singer of this decade. And I am looking forward to seeing his video and tour performances and how he renders these songs… for our entertainment

“A Loaded Smile” is killing me. The lyrics are so poignant,
    I Never felt so satisfied
    Everything falls into place
But I feel I need more time
And Yeah, I know my life has changed
But Honestly, I don’t know if we’ll survive

The album may not sell 5mil copies, ala Daughtry, and it probably won’t, but who does? This album is going to do very well,

The album is not going to sell 5 million copies because nobody is, even Taylor Swift is still at 4 mil and something. LOL.

Still, I can’t tell what Adam will do from the snippets. Y’all are braver than me in that regard. If he goes on to be this year’s Gaga, we are looking at something around 2 million domestically I think (1.5 plus idol fans), and 2 or 3 double/triple platinum singles. I’m not prepared to call all of THAT.

He should do well though. I still think he’s going to have a good Christmas season.

Also, the album sounds very electro influenced to me from the snippets. Yes he’s doing the glam rock thing but it does sound like they attempted to modernize it. I can’t tell how well they pulled it off until I hear the whole songs. It is retro sounding to me so far, but that can be good or bad depending on how you play it. I’m really interested in hearing the whole thing now!

  • Mary102

I’m very impressed to see everybody is loving this album, but when Lady GaGa was on Idol nobody liked her or her music, when Adam is her male version, and I mean it in the whole extension of the concept (the exaggeration, the androginy looks, the electro retro pop sound),

I think Lady Gaga’s track record this year for hitting the top of the charts would suggest otherwise.

What a great morning! I actually love all the snippets, too — except maybe the Pink song, although it isn’t bad, just my least favorite.

I love everything about Music Again *except* the lyrics. I loathe the lyrics. They make that snippet sound cheesy, but maybe they’ll be better once I can hear the entire song.

I agree that Aftermath could be a David Cook song. I want him to cover it now.

Pick U Up is growing on me.

  • Reflections On Life

I love love love how unabashedly, unapologetically retro Music Again is! It’s especially ballsy to have it lead the collection!

Same for Broken Open and TFM, very 80s.

TFM really stands out as the one where I can really hear the Adam I heard and floved on AI. I guess rock power ballads have a way of really showcasing a voice, regardless of how schmaltzy they can often be.

I can see Sleepwalker, Strut, and FYE doing well on the radio. Very current music. FYE is so totally Britney/Rihanna.

The Pink song fails. It would sound much better with Pink singing it.

Hate the title “Sure Fire Winners”, so lame, but then again, so many good songs have lame titles… I can totally hear this remixed by DJs at discos & nightclubs.

I wonder if the full version of Fever has the piano element that Gaga’s version had? IMO the piano gave it that extra elton-john louisiana-funk element that made it so special. Clearly Adam’s vocals & affectations gave it that extra oomph it needed.

Strong work Adam! I love how all the idols are getting their game going now… exciting!

So we get the snippets as smoke and mirrors to For Your Entertainment not being available on Itunes….Though I love many of the snippets I am not distracted….I still want an answer to why FYE the single is not available as we were told it would be. I mean if it has been changed to Friday or next week…Just tell us. Adam winning head to head contest on radio stations means that more then just AI/Adam stans are liking the song…Waiting to make it available is going to lose sales. IMHO….I just want some sort of answer from someone who is the know!…Again Love what I hear from the snippets but will not make a final judgment until I hear all the songs in their entirety.

I think I’m in love with these samples .. it’s always difficult to judge on such short clips but I can honestly say there isn’t one where I thought “hmmm not sure I like that one” … some stand out to me more than others but on the whole I think I’m going to love this album. It certainly seems to be just how Adam described it .. there’s a definite glam rock feel to it .. but updated to a more modern dance/club/pop sound .. plus I can hear the rock elements and there seems to be a couple of very lovey ballads.

Music Again is soooooooooooooo Justin Hawkins and The Darkness and I would give my first born to hear the full version of Soaked .. his voice sounds beautiful on it and they don’t seem to have left the vulnerability there that Matt Bellamy had on his demo.

I’m also loving the song of Sure Fire Winners .. from the sample the first thing I hear is “We Are The Champions with a We Will Rock You beat” .. then you get a similar beat to Robbie William’s “Bodies” .. and as a huge Robbie fan who loves that song that just makes me love it more.

Here’s Robbie’s “Bodies” to show what I mean .. it has the same beat and kind of talky/rap vibe to the lyrics

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjA8iJxDOnE

I was a bit worried about what Adam will come up with but I’m a happy bunny today .. and now can’t wait to hop “down the rabbit hole”

I wish Adam well but it’s also good to keep in mind that this blog (and in fact snobby music reviewers as a whole) is not representative of the general public.

NOT saying that this album will sell 1 million copies but just to illustrate:

If only 0.5% of Americans buy this album that is 1.6 million albums sold — so it would be nice if the “general public” likes this album — but if’s still OK if only the “Kewl Kids” buy it.

Pick U Up is growing on me.

Me too. I think this one definitely requires the whole song in context. I suspect there might be a lot of sound variety on the song that we aren’t getting in the snippet.

  • NewFan

OK. This is embarrassing. I really don’t want to sound like an over-invested fan so I keep listening for something that I don’t like. No luck just yet. Maybe when the full versions come out …

I have the same thought. Parts of some of the songs sound promising, but incomplete (no kidding with a 30 sec snippet ;-) )

    aww Will, such willpower!

  • Q3

I still want an answer to why FYE the single is not available

Just an online rumor — but from reliable sources — 19R/RCA decided to back off a couple of days because they had 3 other releases today — including Carrie’s album. And today is Carrie’s big news day with the GMA concert and all.

This make sense but I am puzzled about the poor communication by 19 about the single release dates — first Kris’ date(s), then Alli’s single was for sale for 2 hours on iTunes (early), and now Adam’s FYE — all that they have offically said is that it will be sometime this week. (10/30/09 Email to AO members.)

MJ, have you heard this from any of your sources.

  • aa618892

This was on the headlines thread but probably belongs here. It is Rivers Cuomo talking about Pick U Up. He says basically that he co-wrote it with Adam.

Actually, this does NOT make sense to me. You have record adds and radio stations have FYE to play, even if not in rotation. Listeners hear it, want to buy it, and…no. They have to go to AO? They have no idea what AO is.

I still this is Epic Fail on RCA’s end, but then again, as noted, Why am I surprised?!

Im getting an electro/pop feel from the snippest, w. a faint rock sound (no glam whatsoever). A bit of Cobra Starship in the production. Wait, didnt he work w. a guy responsible for Good Girls Go Bad? Maybe thats what im hearing. Im glad they tossed in a cpl of slower songs so we can actually hear his distinct voice. I curse the day autotune was made hip in the recording world.

I wont even get started on 19 and their odds marketing strategy concerning all the idols (kris, allison, and adam). doesnt seem organized or focused.

Wow, a video. Jim is becoming an Adam stan. ;)

What’s cool is that fans who like more melodic material *raising hand* get songs like Aftermath, TfM (Yay, others, like it!!!), Sleepwalker, Sure Fire Winners, Pick U Up, Broken Up, and of course SOAKED. And if you are more glam-dance oriented, you get Strut, Music Again, Fever, etc.

Something for everyone, seriously. And I am now getting AO/Sony CD and iTunes (whom I hate) download. Prob not amazon, but holding out on writing them yet till I see if they have a bonus disc.

Still disappointed that you can’t pre-order FYE at least. :(

  • NewFan

Aha. I’ve got something! The songs written by Pink, Gaga and Justin Hawkins really sound like something of Pink Gaga and Hawkins. Too much or is that a good thing? If I had You also sounds very like Gaga.

ETA … Ok … still reaching (for something I don’t like.)

  • Studio57

Anybody else get thoroughly pissed when listening to SOAKED and it starts to fade out? I want the whole damn song. NOW. It kind of reminds me of Eric Carmen……. a little All By Myself mixed with a little Never Gonna Fall In Love Again. Totally updated of course.

And Sleepwalker- Good Ryan Tedder, not bad Ryan Tedder.Something he would write for One republic, not Leona or Kelly. I totally feel this was his redemption for Halo just as Strut is Kara’s for NoBo. I am so so happy for Amy Mayo.

NewFan- If I Had You is very similar to Just Dance IMO

First of all, a pox on RCA for not allowing iTunes to release FYE. FYE is so obviously a hit and they need to allow it to get on the charts and in the public eye ASAP. It better be a hit or the public is just plain biased. B/c FYE is exceptionally poppy and catchy. It screams hit at you. And people would totally groove to it at any club.

Now regarding the snippets, I’m going to be honest and say, I’m not actually hearing any hit potential. So while many of us who already adore Adam and enjoy his vocal stylings will probably love all or most of the tracks, I fear they may not be mainstream enough. Of course these first impressions will hopefully change when I can hear the whole track.

Well two things on this…Selfish first comes to mind…and not everyone will go to radio station websites to look were to purchase the single…Also Itunes is where a huge portion of the public goes to get their downloads. Also if someone maybe interested to eventually ordering the whole album they would not want to buy the single some place else and then when they buy the album they will have to pay full price and not get credit for the previous single purchase. Not everyone is an Adam fan and willing to spend their money in multiple places. Also if someone likes the single, They maybe will not want to be forced to go to a fan website to get it. I just think this will prompt people more so to get it through illegal downloads.

  • Mary102

  • Truthiness

Agreed about wanting to hear the whole songs to see if they pulled off the retro, but updated 70s/80s stuff. And also agree that making predictions about how much he will sell. Certainly predicting 1million or over in this market is wacked to me. I honestly have no idea if it will do well, the music market is so crappy and so cranky. So I’m not going to set Adam up to fail by predicting big in such crappy music selling times.

  • suebrody

  • Mary102

Now regarding the snippets, I’m going to be honest and say, I’m not actually hearing any hit potential.

So I tried to listen to the snippets with two hats on:

    1. As an Adam fan, what do I love?
Pretty much everything (some just more than others)

    2. As a radio listener, what could I expect to hear on the radio, and to do well (a note that I listen to a lot of HAC and Top 40, and love a lot of of the songs at the top of the itunes chart, Gaga, BEP, Britney, hip-hop, etc.):

I can see these songs (just based on the snippets), moving over to radio nicely:

    * FYE (obvs)
    * Fever
    * Strut
    * Whataya Want

Some of the others have potential too, but harder to focus on which ones would be stronger just based on the snippets (I can see If I had You and Sure Fire Winners potentially being good on the radio).

ITA. I noticed where Carrie hit #1 on iTunes today. Maybe they did not want to pit Adam against Carrie this week.

@dhunkenMy thought process was that they are really trying to get radio hits and radio spins with this one. So maybe the DJ’s are saying go to KISS FM to play or download or whatever. Just surmising. This is not by accident, nothing about Adam’s roll out has been slipshod….I think it is all part of the big picture.

  • sunchick

I think you might have misunderstood me sunchick. I said the album ‘as we know it’ is dead . I am sure there are some really good bands out there that will have a great cohesive album from beginning to end, but people for the most part listen to mixes now, not albums.

No, not really, Studio 57. I just disagreed. What I was saying was that music trends can coexist and the more conceptual album hasn’t necessarily “died” to make way for digital music and the iPod mixes, much the way traditional episodic drama and sit coms have managed to eventually thrive again despite the influx of reality TV as the suits lost interest in producing the crappier reality TV clones. Vinyl, for example, has seen a surge in popularity in the last two or three years, not just among old fogies looking for nostalgia, but among young audiophiles. I’m a techno junkie as much as anyone, have upgraded my iPod periodically since the very first one was introduced and I jumped on it, and enjoy making a good playlist. But I so appreciate a great cohesive album as an artistic expression. I just do. I kinda think that appreciation crosses both music genres and generations and will never die completely, just like my 50 year old Pink Floyd lovin dad can talk music with my 30 year old MCR and Jay Z loving self and discover we both dig Arcade Fire (hey, so does President Obama.)

Anyway, it sounds like Adam probably has a commercial success on his hands, but I’m not ready to crown it as a groundbreaking artistic achievement.

  • suebrody

I doubt that mix104.1 in Boston will direct you to KISS–it’s a competitor. I think this is just slipshod thinking, IMO. Obviously FYE will be released soon, but I think listeners may want it sooner than soon.

  • Mary102

My take on the lack of itunes release:

My biggest problem with it is that, all the hardcore fans will buy on AO, and we’ll miss a big first day bump on the itunes chart because it will be more “outside the bubble” people buying at that point.

I can see the delay based on the fact that today is really crowded, though – with Carrie, Kris, and Allison all having new stuff out. But it’s still weird. Maybe release FYE Wednesday or Thursday? Does that ever happen?

  • sidewalkstory

And today is Carrie’s big news day with the GMA concert and all.

There looked like there were 20 people at that concert

  • Chicagolaw

Mary, I pretty much agree with your radio picks; I would add that Sleepwalker and Aftermath would seem to have, at the very least, good HAC potential.

Funny thing about Top 40 success (which I think/hope FYE will have), it opens a lot of doors in terms of giving other album tracks out there at least a chance–especially for someone coming off AI.

  • Niall

All in all I’m pleased with what I’m hearing in the snippets. I can already tell “Music Again” will be on repeat once I get it on my iPod. If that song wasn’t ELO influenced, nothing is.

If I Can’t Have You, Sleepwalker, Pick U Up, Sure Fire Winners and Whataya Want From Me sound like filler to me. I might forgo downloading them. Hopefully I’ll change my mind on a couple of them when I hear the full songs.

Meanwhile, Fever and Strut (Kara proves why she’s such a sought after songwriter here) have future single potential on Top 40. Love ‘em.

Just thinking out loud as to why there are links on these radio station sites to the AO downloads. AND, Adam has been prominently portrayed on these websites this week. There must be some method to the madness, just not sure what.

Yes – I agree – I’d add those to the general: good songs with radio play potential, but just harder to rank based on only hearing the snippets.

Plus, these two seem much more suited, actually, to HAC than Top 40. So, are we gonna get Adam all over the radio ;-) Pretty please!

  • JKL

MUSIC AGAIN should without a doubt be the next release.
It is f-n awesome! As is SLEEPWALKER.

I’m still confused as to why they released FYE when it sounds so generic, and as if it’s missing a major hook.

    MUSIC AGAIN
    SKEEPWALKER
    SOAKED
    SURE FIRE WINNERS
    PICK U UP
    FEVER

  • IndyMuse

Smartalek, I have to disagree that FYE better be a hit or people are biased. Not everyone likes ‘poppy, catchy’ dance-club style songs, regardless of who sings them. It fits into a genre I personally don’t like or buy from those who already have hits with it. If there is a bias, it would be against the style of music, which is a legitimate bias when buying music. I don’t follow the genre well enough to know how well it fits within it, whether it stands above the rest or not.

  • Chicagolaw

In terms of iTunes, haven’t most of the fans already purchased the single from AO? Does that seem like the case? If so, that leaves RCA in the tricky spot of having to rely on new listeners really early in the game for iTunes “chart success.”

  • Q3

I’m very impressed to see everybody is loving this album, but when Lady GaGa was on Idol nobody liked her or her music, when Adam is her male version, and I mean it in the whole extension of the concept (the exaggeration, the androginy looks, the electro retro pop sound),

I like Lady GaGa on Idol — so I guess I must be “nobody”. But even the Lady GaGa track sounds more like an homage to David Bowie than a Lady GaGa song. He even sings part of it with a British accent (sort of) — tenor melody track.

Regarding the RedOne comment — RedOne didn’t create Lady Gaga and it looks like he had little or nothing to do with the tracks on Adam’s album:

RedOne and Lady Gaga. RedOne only produced 5 tracks on “The Fame” and was not Executive producer. Lady GaGa “The Fame” Producers: Vincent Herbert (executive) Rob Fusari, Fernando Garibay, Bilal Hajji, Martin Kierszenbaum, KNS Productions, RedOne, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, Teddy Riley, Space Cowboy, Ron Fair

RedOne and Adam: RedOne did one know recording session with Adam and so far there are not any confirmed RedOne tracks on this album. The producer for Strut is not known so that could be a RedOne track. The only other track without a confirmed producer is Matt Bellamy’s “Soaked” but that is not RedOne — my guess is that Rob Cavallo produced it and that the string orchestra appears later in this song. So at most, 1 RedOne song is on this album — out of 15 tracks.

Adam and Lady GaGa: On FYE [album] Track #10 Fever 3:26 ‘“ Written by Lady Gaga. Produced by Jeff Bhasker (Lady GaGa’s Musical Director) not by RedOne.

Anyway, it sounds like Adam probably has a commercial success on his hands, but I’m not ready to crown it as a groundbreaking artistic achievement.

True. But, I think Adam was aiming to please a simpler audience. He would LOVE fans of Muse, Arcade Fire, The Shins etc. to dig his album, but he knows that the majority merely seek to shake their asses to his beats. Hence…”For Your Entertainment” not “For Your Cerebral Stimulation.” I’m hoping that Adam will eventually go in the direction of a concept album and push boundaries a little more. But, all in all, I’m pretty satisfied by this album (what we have heard) and I think Adam prepped us well for what he was going to accomplish. He wants to play dress-up and he wants to make people dance and screw and have fun. For Your Entertainment looks like it will fit that bill.

I definitely agree with you that concept albums have not died. But they do seem to be more successful in the UK!

  • jms

Anyway, it sounds like Adam probably has a commercial success on his hands, but I’m not ready to crown it as a groundbreaking artistic achievement.

Well, if it’s a commercial success that’s good enough for me. It’s the most important part and will let me have more music from him in the future. I don’t care if it’s groundbreaking or if it’s a spectacular artistic achievement. Bon Jovi has never received critical acclaim but their commercial success is phenomenal which has allowed them to continue to bring their fans new music. Hmmm. Bet Adam is delightfully Slippery When Wet. :)

ETA: Actually if it’s a commercial success, I would be ecstatic. :)

I haven’t listened to Kris’ snippets, or the clips with crappy audio from the tailgate party. And I’m not going to listen to these. Waiting for the real things. So there!

will, I think we’re going to suffer without your positive comments.

  • CCAdamFan

OH YEAH! I like the snippets of most songs better than I like the entire FYE. I am definitely getting a classic rock feel with a modern twist, which is a very good thing. My first thought on my first listen to “Music Again” was ELO. 20 days to go!

Edit: I had not even seen the previous comments about “Music Again” and ELO!

    Jim has officially LOST it:

    http://newsroom.mtv.com/2009/11/03/adam-lambert-album-preview/

Hmm – well I definitely disagree with him on some of those tracks. Some of my favs were his least fav, it seems. Whatevs. Overall very fangirly review :-)

  • Truthiness

Hmmm. Well putting it in the Adam thread, but not a lot of radio adds thus far, only one pop one today. Interesting as FYE is pretty pop to me, and I like it, even when stacked against the other songs, thus far of course.

Anyhew, I like Strut thus far, think it and Fever have single potential, plus I like them.

  • Natasha

In terms of iTunes, haven’t most of the fans already purchased the single from AO? Does that seem like the case? If so, that leaves RCA in the tricky spot of having to rely on new listeners really early in the game for iTunes ‘chart success.’

I agree it’s tricky and I still wonder why they did things that way. Adam’s hardcore fans already have the song although from what I’ve heard some will download it again from itunes since it’s only a buck and a half.

  • dhunken

I doubt that mix104.1 in Boston will direct you to KISS’“it’s a competitor. I think this is just slipshod thinking, IMO. Obviously FYE will be released soon, but I think listeners may want it sooner than soon.

LOL….Thanks for making me laugh and see that this is exactly me right now….

  • Mary102

ALL the tracks sound really solid, the only one I’m not keen on is Aftermath. The lyrics are cheesy.

Yes – that may be my biggest problem with it too. Many of the other songs have really awesome lyrics, and these were way too “Idol coronation song” to me :-) So not Adam imo.

Which is part of my point on wanting new radio listeners before it goes to iTunes. I mean, forget the invested fans, they need FIREFLIES lovers and GAGA lovers and BLACK EYED PEA lovers …. we all have already downloaded, preordered, pre exploded into a glittery mess. They need new listeners and radio and promotion are going on this week.

  • glitizen

    WOW!
Talk about “chameleon” type of album! He said it would have a little of everything and it does…and I love it! Can’t wait to hear the entire songs. “Soaked” reminds me a little of Freddie Mercury at the piano. Sounds like a great catch phrase in “Strut” “wanna be SOLO” ..if that’s really what the lyric is. “Aftermath” gives us the rock which sounds a little like Boston. “Broken Open”, part of the tune reminds me a little of Madonna’s “Live to Tell”. I love, love, love
“Sleepwalker”,”Loaded Smile” and “Broken Open”…really sounds like all the songs are hits. Just like he said it would be…current 70′s and 80′s sound…and I don’t know of another artist with this many different sounds on one album. GENUIS!

True. But where is Slezak? Methinks that he found something to dislike and Polly won’t let him out the door. Forced vacation.

BTW ‘“ is it just me or has Sunn been MIA for awhile ‘“ I miss her :-(

    Mary102:

Now that you mention it, Sunn has been very quiet as of late … Hope all is well. She would not want to miss any of this fun stuff.

And Teraj. Will you be letting the boys know about this? Or has their recent pissiness gotten to you as well as me? Ok. Maybe they’re allowed a little bit of irritation … but not too much if it effects their objectivity.

  • PattyH

Why can’t I find a place to make requests on the KIIS FM page? Do they have one? How do I request FYE?

  • Mary102

Well, if studying LLWD’s path (and other non-AI songs) has taught me anything, it’s that this will be a longer process than just two days of adds :-) We’ll just have to wait. I think FYE is a great song, and it seems to be getting lots of positive feedback outside of the bubble. So I really really hope that it takes off!

No, lol, I do not think that either. It was a hypothetical based on someone listening to KISS FM (national franchise) and maybe directing to the local website. Just thinking out loud as to why there are links on these radio station sites to the AO downloads. AND, Adam has been prominently portrayed on these websites this week. There must be some method to the madness, just not sure what.

I do agree with your assessment….I am not sure either and I think that is what really has me frustrated at this point.

I liked Lady GaGa on Idol. She was one of the few guests that could sing well during a live performance.

I also like the song Gaga has written that Adam is using. It is perfect for him and he puts his stamp on it. Unlike Pink’s song that sounds borrowed.

As somebody who’s watched all these post-Idol albums come out, the fact that anybody, anywhere is able to utter the phrase “awesome lyric” in connection with an Idol debut album, plus the fact that many people are instantly talking about as many as half the songs on this album being actually kind of *good*, rather than in terms more like, “Well, yeah, now that one; I’ve listened to it a few times now, and, hey, I think it’s okay,” makes this album an incredible success, compared to virtually all of what has gone before in the Idol universe.

And when it comes to hits and sales, who knows? In the snippets I hear stuff that sounds retro and stuff that sounds contemporary (to me, anyway) all mixed together, and I have *no* idea what combination of those things will actually take off with buyers these days. There’s obviously some mysterious amalgam that makes a song “current” and “catchy” and thus “buyable.” But danged if I know what it is. I can only hope that RCA knows and that they hit on some of it putting this album together. The previous big sellers, like Daughtry, have come out with albums that sounded *exactly* like something else currently on the market and that even I could immediately recognize and point to. That’s not the case here — I wish I knew what that portends!

  • http://www.twitter.com/halfie6 halfie

JimC and I had different takes on the meaning of Sleepwalker. He sees it as ” stuck in a dysfunctional relationship. He wants to leave, but can’t because the sex is good. ” I see it as being in a relationship that is so fucking amazing, he can’t believe it. A new love, taking his breath away, keeping him awake at night.

But Jim may have heard the whole song, so he could know things we don’t

  • AdamTwentyFourSeven

“always tough to judge from snippets” I don’t think it is hard to judge this album from snippets at all. The songs are so KILLER they grab you in 30 seconds. Some of them are just down right Record Smashing Hits…OMG I am beyond happy right now.

  • NewFan

But Jim may have heard the whole song, so he could know things we don’t

Ok, new thought – is Adam going to be doing any of the radio interviews and promo for FYE that Kris did? He was on Ryan’s show, but nothing else. What is the roll out strategy? I am so confused…

  • BeckyMD

thank you MJ for rotating it to the top :D

  • 4evrmomof4

maybe Suburban DEcay or one of the RedOne tracks are some of the uk, japan, itunes bonus tracks– just squeeeing to think their may be even more awesome songs coming

  • lucy

Ok, new thought ‘“ is Adam going to be doing any of the radio interviews and promo for FYE that Kris did? He was on Ryan’s show, but nothing else. What is the roll out strategy? I am so confused’ ¦

I can see that being kind of a problem, actually, since I guess he can’t sing FYE live until the AMAs …. so what would he do for that little itty bitty acoustic concert they often do when they do the promotional radio interviews? (and which I’d think you’d especially want Adam to do because he’s such a good, you know, *singer.*) You probably wouldn’t want to sing something else off the album, because that would mix the sales message … So I guess he’d just do interviews without singing a song snippet — just talk? and then they’d play the song, I guess. But you also probably don’t want to do those spots until somebody can at least buy the song at Itunes? So maybe some of those next week?

  • BeckyMD

I’m not going to worry myself with the roll out strategy. This album has its own freaking LIFE!!! It’ll grow on you and it will sell.

Let’s just fall back, relax, and enjoy the music :D

  • jms

Ok, new thought ‘“ is Adam going to be doing any of the radio interviews and promo for FYE that Kris did?

I’m thinking all his promo is going to be post AMA. If the spins don’t grow the way they’d like, he might do some radio interviews sooner. But I’m betting they’re hard at work designing and rehearsing both for the AMA performance and for the GMA performance (isn’t that going to be multiple songs?) These are his big opportunities to strut his stuff. They’ll want to make sure the performance (not just the music) is at as high a level as possible and that isn’t much time to accomplish this.

I am exactly that fan you speak of- Muse, Arcade Fire, Shins, Silversun Pickups,- totally in the alternative camp – and I am loving what I hear. Mind you, I would pay to hear him recite the alphabet (yes, he’s that good).
Down the line, I would like to see some collaborations with less pop/rock mainstream and more alternative musicians for some quirky variety and interest.

Or you’re projecting ‘ ¦ oh lucky one.

You’re not the first person to suggest this in the last couple of weeks. I have been extraordinarily happy lately, it’s true. Perhaps I’m projecting. Perhaps I’m just a hopeless romantic and want Sleepwalker to be a tribute to new love. Whatever the case, life is good!

  • Starr

I have to say, I am disappointed at how “Fever” turned out. I was super excited after I heard Gaga’s demo – gotta say I loved Gaga’s take on the song more than Adam’s.

“Music Again” definitely has that The Darkness feel to it. “Strut” also sounds promising. Kinda makes me wish Adam came out with either of these two songs as a first single, but hey.

“Broken Open” is probably my favorite though.

Not really digging the album, but will get the three songs I mentioned above if they prove to be promising full-length.

  • NewFan

Just a small gripe. If you don’t live in the U.S. of A. you can’t order FYE from Adam Official.

To me the perceived strength (at least at this point) to me I pretty evident in that so many folks have different favorites. To me this says that there are a good handful of strong songs with the album. The funny thing is that the FYE single doesn’t sound as strong as a 30 sec. snipet – so I have some hope for the songs that are not at the top of my list.

Ok, new thought ‘“ is Adam going to be doing any of the radio interviews and promo for FYE that Kris did?

My bet is that Adam will do radio interviews by no performances before the AMA’s. And since it looks like the FYE release date might be pushed back by 19/RCA to Friday or (urgh!) next Tuesday (all rumors at this point), maybe they have something coming up to kick off the on sale date.

The other thing going on with Adam is 2012 — he just did a big press junket for 2012 and the film opens on 11/13/09. And he need to do some promo work for the movie, too.

  • http://tenuousatbest.blogspot.com imyourmom

I’m certain that peeps will be flocking to ITunes to download FYE within half an hour after Adam’s AMA performance. So many unlucky music lovers all over the country that haven’t seen & heard what Adam can do (unrestricted by AI constraints). Yippee!

Also want to say I’m loving the sassyness I’m hearing in his version of Fever. Soooo sassy.
