Darren Criss & Naya Rivera – “Valerie” – Irving Plaza – NYC

<<performs>> at Irving Plaza on June 15, 2011 in New York City.

Darren Criss performed at Irving Plaza in New York City last night on one of his rare nights off from the Glee tour, currently performing across the country.

The Glee star’s 90 minute set included his usual Disney covers, original tunes, songs from his Starkid musicals AND an EPIC duet with Glee’s Naya Rivera! Here they are performing “Valerie”.

Plus, I’ve added a few more performances, including “Sami” and “Teenage Dream” with the Warblers, a couple originals, and a song from “Back To Hogwarts”, Darren and Starkid’s viral internet Harry Potter spoof.

MJ, were you there? How long does it take to speed from Boston to New York? :-) I’m surprised the Glee tour management would let him do it, wanting him to rest his voice. Maybe record label execs were there? Do the Warbler guys have actual names? I know one of them is Teddy Leong but I don’t recognize him being on the tour. There are 10 of them in addition to Darren. Yes, I counted.

No, I wasn’t there. I found the photos and vids on the internet. :).

wanting him to rest his voice.

The very last thing the Glee tour is about is anybody’s voice. These kids could croak out their songs and the audience wouldn’t give a damn.

@Tess… yeah… pity they were singing too loud along in this video…Would love to hear the Warblers sing…

Except that nearly every cast member sang live solos–and really really well, at that.

MJ, thank you so much for this awesome post. I’ve been on a video frenzy since the show, catching up on all the great videos, and you brought some of the very best here.

I’m going to actually get to see Darren a few weeks from now, in London. Ridiculously excited about that.

I’m sure the glee kids are singing very well on tour…auto-tuned or not on the recordings. But I don’t think the “voices” are what interest many of the fans, from what I can gather. It’s much more about the glee experience and the whole ambiance associated with that…rather than being concerned about how well an individual is singing.

Oh, I think if someone wasn’t singing well their fans would notice. Then go on blogs and wonder if they’re sick and should be resting their voice. If it happens with fans on the Idol tour it happens with Glee as well.

Pet peeve of mine at these types of concerts: I get super annoyed at the excessive screaming, talking and singing along by the fans. Come on! Don’t you all want to actually HEAR the performers sing???
