    No Derek Hough? Woot!

I think Kirstie Alley will be great. She can dance, she’s funny, she’s not shy, and she’ll lose weight in the process. I don’t feel sorry for Maks at all. They will be the couple to watch.

  • Allison

    I thought Dmitri was on.

Do you think this is Maks’punishment for being so bad last season? Poor guy. Good thing he’s big for a dancer. Hope he’s been lifting some heavy duty weights.

Mike Catherwood. BLAH. I just might watch the show to root against that asshat.

  • LaRue

Hope he’s been lifting some heavy duty weights.

There’s no lifting of partners except for Argentine Tango and the finals. Should they make it to the end, I imagine Kirstie will have lost weight and be fairly easy to lift. The only thing hurt right now is Maks’ ego. But Kirstie is more than capable of handling that.

Think I’ll pass! I don’t see any stars there.

Because DWTS has always been about the stars, right? Every season the media denounces a cast as the worst cast ever or lamenting the lack of real stars? Did anybody know who Gilles Marini or Kyle Massey were prior to their seasons?

FWIW, I’m intrigued by this season. There’s no obvious tabloid fodder (Bristol, Kate G.) and there’s nobody political (again, Bristol). There are also no obvious ringers (Jennifer Grey, Mya, etc.) and I don’t think there are even any fanbases that will be impossible to overcome (Kristi Y.) I think this show is at it’s best when there are a bunch of semi-famous folks as opposed to people that are so ahead of the pack from day one.

This is a horrible crew. I thought people wanted to be on this show so couldn’t the producers do a better job than this. I thought they started with more contestants than 11 as well? I’ll pass this go round.

  • LaRue

Let’s be realistic: No A or B-list star, outside of sports figures, is going to be part of DWTS. They have strong careers and don’t need to put themselves through weeks of dance training that won’t serve them any purpose.

The show reportedly tried to get Bill Clinton one season. The response? Clinton’s assistant hung up on them instantly. No one and I mean NO ONE that high up the celebrity food chain is going to be part of the cast. Not gonna happen. We have to accept that.

Every season, it’s the same thing–where are the stars? This cast sucks! Actually, I think they did pretty good this time around. I only drew a blank on two celebs–the Disney girl and Dr. Drew’s sidekick.

At this point, most folks are watching for the pro dancers, anyway. It’s interesting to see if they can teach/tolerate their partner or have come up with new routines.

DWTS is a campy show that attracts C and D-listers, looking to revive their career or, in the case of some athletes, parlay their time on the show to landing endorsement deals. That’s all it’s ever been. That’s all it will ever be. And there’s no shame in that. The show understands this. We viewers need to do the same. The expectations that DWTS should have big-time celebs knocking at their door is unrealistic.

I’m actually going to follow this simply to see what happens with Kirstie Alley and Maks. I suspect it’s either going to be a spectular fail or surprisingly great – entertaining no matter what. Also curious about what Sugar Ray Leonard might be able to pull off.

You only have 10 couples listed. The last couple is Petra Nemcova (the supermodel) and Dmitry Chaplin. She wasn’t at the cast revelation because she was speaking at the U.N. I’m so glad Dmitry is back on the show :)

  • Grammie Kari

Ok, I see Lacey and Chelsie, but where is Dmitry?

There are a few stars, but this is a really weak crew of celebs!

  • Ratna12

i’m going to DVR Monday and Tuesday and probably just watch Dmitry and Petra in full and just fast forward every body else and just watch the dances. Should be done watching in 15 minutes.

I also don’t feel sorry for Maks one bit! Before they even announced the pairings I knew Kirstie was going to be one of the most fun to watch. I can’t wait to see her dance & cut up!
