Vidcon, the massive Youtube and social media convention, took place over the weekend amid higher security than ever before. A new wariness comes after one of their own, Christina Grimmie, was fatally shot in Orlando, Florida earlier this month.
Christina eventually went on to compete on The Voice 6 (3rd place), but YouTube is where she got her start. At Vidcon, the community came together to grieve for their sister with a beautiful tribute video that left the audience in tears.
Introduced by Vidcon co-founders Hank and John Green, the video features a montage of clips from Christina’s YouTube videos and her appearances on The Voice and behind-the-scenes clips with friends and family. The edits are set to a rendition of her song “With Love” sung by her friends and collaborators.
The Green brothers encouraged attendees to buy “Love is Love” wristbands (Inspired by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony speech) that would benefit those affected by the mass shooting at Pulse nightclub the same weekend Christina was killed.
Once again…get those tissues ready. Hank and John can barely keep it together. #RipChristinaGrimmie
