Carrie Underwood’s Nigel Lythgoe/Adam Shankman produced, holiday special, Carrie Underwood’s All-Star Holiday Special, featuring David Cook, Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley, Kristin Chenoweth, Ryan Seacrest, Neil Patrick Harris and more, will air tonight on FOX at 8 pm.

Carrie will sing songs from her new album, Play On, a some of her beloved hits, plus a few holiday favorites.

She’ll duet with her guest stars, but unfortunately, the song she recorded with David Cook, Van Halen’s “Why Can’t This Be Love”, may not air due to clearance problems. BOO. But, we will get a performance of “Lie” from David and his band.

We’ll also get another side of Carrie as she performs in several comedy sketches. Actress! Carrie!

After the jump, more Carrie satellite interviews with FOX stations across the country (More HERE) and a radio interview with David Cook;

Really really really want my duet tonight, however, I’m earger to see Lie! :)

I just got off the phone with my BFF (who adores Carrie). She’s going to watch it now. What she does not know is that it’s all part of my Cookie brainwashing plans.

Another radio interview with Cook from this morning, this time on MIX 105.1 in Orlando. He talks a lot about the duet here, again saying how great they sound performing together. But yes, he gives the caveat that he hopes the legalities can be worked out so people get to see it:

So excited. I’ve been looking forward to this special for months! Go Carrie.

Go David! Really hoping the legalities get resolved. *fingers crossed*

One more DC radio interview promoting the special:

Sounds like these were all from Friday morning. Similar refrain w.r.t. the duet’s legal issues with the Y98 interview and the one from Friday. Sigh… so sad that we may not get this. Nonetheless, very much so looking forward to the special tonight! Also, if this Cookwood is a fail, I’m hoping that’s more reason for them to create an opportunity for Cookwood #3 to appease some very disappointed fans. C’mon, they both admit to sounding great together, so they can’t deny the public forever! Heh, I’m thinking IGB may be a good opportunity :).

IGB would be the perfect opportunity for a Cookwood duet! Hopefully the producers read this blog.

“She’ll duet with her guest stars, but unfortunately, the song she recorded with David Cook, Van Halen’s ‘Why Can’t This Be Love’ , may not air due to clearance problems.”

One thing we know – she is trying really hard to persuade Van Halen to clear the song. But I think a wig might not be enough unless Cook do the same thing.

I have a party to go to tonight. Please add videos if you can! I am also excited to see Sons of Sylvia’s duet with Carrie on “What Can I Say”
Ashley Clark’s voice is beautiful with Carrie’s voice! I hope it gets a boost from tonight!

Is it just me or does Carrie look like she’s sporting a penis in those pants?

I am so dorkily excited to watch this tonight. Cookie + Lie = win.

This and Carrie’s duets with Dolly Parton and Brad Paisley are the probably the ones I’m most excited about tonight because they’re all probably 1-time event performances unless SOS tours with Carrie next year. The clips of What Can I Say and I Will Always Love You sound so incredible and Carrie looks so, so happy to be singing with Dolly.

FOX’s YT page put up 3 1-minute clips from tonight!

I don’t understand why they are calling this a ‘holiday’ special when most of the songs are not holiday songs.

  • IndyMuse

I am so fired up about this tonite! I am just giddy! I can’ wait.

I don’t understand why they are calling this a ‘holiday’ special when most of the songs are not holiday songs.

Um, it’s a special that airs during the holiday season, which is typically the period between Thanksgiving and January 2nd in the U.S.

Christmas and holiday specials are not obligated to only or mostly feature Christmas songs.

Regarding the Van Halen song rights – how come the producers didn’t secure these rights BEFORE taping the special? Methinks someone didn’t do his/her job properly.

Leather pants, leather glove, bare chested male dancers….hmmmm.

And commenting that they can’t kick her off her own show!

    LOVE CARRIE!!!

    Oh, and MEGA-talented!

Hee, my 4 year old absolutely loved the part about her dog. Between David Cook and my 4 year old’s giggle… we enjoyed that ;)
