Caleb Johnson auditioned last year and was in a group in Hollywood with James Durbin. He reminds me of David Cook lite. They have similar tones, but David has more finesse while Caleb pushes his voice at times into almost screaming territory. I think he would make a decent middle of the pack contestant, but I would worry the audience might become attached to him and push him farther than he belongs.

Another reject from last year? Were the producers too lazy to dig for new talent this season or new talent simply didn’t come so they had to take so many rejects? I’m not against one or two people from previous seasons, but this season it really feels like it’s the year of rejects.

I’m not impressed with this one.

I like what I hear in the first two vids.

Not able to see the videos but concerned about MJ’s “screaming” comment.  We had too much of that in Seasons 8 and 10.

I just got through watch the performance of “Faithfully” and mj was right about the screaming.  For those that complain about the HAC wgwg, then I would say he fits that bill perfectly.  I think the female viewing audience especially would get too attached to this guy.  I don’t want to comment on spoiler lists because as we saw with Jaycee last year, he was of course cut during the green mile episode and didn’t make it contrary to him being on that list in the beginning so I’m not going to take the list as gospel yet till we see that particular episode but I think it would be better if Caleb didn’t make it into the top 24.

Actually, Gangrene wrote this! I just posted it for her and forgot to make her author.

The final spot for the guys has not been confirmed yet. There are only 2 guys left. Both of them were Hollywood contestants from last year. Caleb was in a group with James. Chase said in an article how he met Scotty in Hollywood & knew instantly he would get far because of his unique voice. Chase is a country singer. So either way the final top 24 spot will go to a S10 Hollywood contestant.

I have a feeling that many people who auditioned for the 1st time this year were underwhelming which is why we have many rejected contestants make it. It kinda makes sense since nobody has really blown us away at the auditions. Actually, most of the auditions they’ve shown so far has underwhelming voices. And this is coming from a Idol fan who’s watched since the beginning. The contestants that auditioned for the 1st time that made it were talented enough to make it like Jessica Sanchez & Phillip Phillips IMO.

I remember him. He was there with James when he screamed for the R&B children, hehehe

What’s the problem about put someone who was in another season? didn’t Pia tried out 5 times? People improve. These videos posted MJ don’t do him justice. He got much better in the last videos he psoted. I pick him for the win. LOL at him singin Adele with an Iron Maiden’s t-shirt.

I can’t believe Steven Tyler would not put a single rock singer and jsut a bunch of indies and R&B singers. People like that Jeremy Rosado and Creighton have no chance to make top13.

I really like his voice. It reminds me a lot of Chris Cornell, and a bit of David Cook, and a bit of Adam Lambert.  I think he has a good rock/alt rock voice. Of the videos I’ve seen I like him the best.

Funny he’s called WGWG even though he isn’t playing guitar in 2 of the videos :) But most rock singers do play guitar so that is to be expected.

ETA: Found an Audioslave cover by Caleb Johnson, he really sounds like Chris Cornell here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64zlTBTrssY

ETA2 Here’s one of Caleb doing Soundgarden’s Outshined http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtGYOOSFE0c and Man In The Box by Alice In Chains . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFZOR3Dby-4&feature=related Though, I think David Cook’s MIB shows more range, but Caleb’s is very good.

Almost every male singer play some guitar. This thing about WGWG is getting boring.

If you look at current male artists in the music industry many of them play guitar. Almost all the country & rock artists play guitar. Many of the pop artists play guitar. The only genres where males don’t play much guitar are R&B & rap. We all know not many Idol contestants are usually R&B & rap artists. So it makes sense that many guys on Idol can play guitar.

James Durbin, Tatynisa, Haley Reinhart, Lauren Turner, Pia Toscano, and Rachel Zevita all auditioned before Season 10(probably a few other people I’m missing). I think its cool when they come back for another try.
