Simon Cowell has signed Forte, the Il Divo-like pop opera group that competed on America’s Got Talent, to SYCO/Columbia records. The group’s self-titled album will drop on November 12 and feature fellow AGT finalist, Cami Bradley on “The Prayer.”

Il Divo, Susan Boyle and Jackie Evancho, so this signing comes as no surprise.

Forte, the multicultural, operatic tenor trio whose performances on America’s Got Talent captivated millions and launched the group into the national spotlight, has signed with Syco/Columbia Records.

Forte is pleased to announce the release of their self-titled debut album, available everywhere November 12. The lead single “Caruso” is available digitally today: http://www.smarturl.it/forteiTunes. Pre-order the album here: http://www.smarturl.it/forte. “We are excited to be joining one of the most prestigious labels in the entire music industry,” the group said. “To go from complete strangers to a bona fide group on the same label as the top names in music is simply incredible. We can’t wait to share this album with our fans.”

Forte are gearing up for a very special New Year’s in Las Vegas. The New Tropicana Las Vegas will play host to three very special New Year’s weekend headline performances by the group, taking place December 28, 29, and 30. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit http://www.troplv.com. Forte will also headline New York City’s famed Carnegie Hall on Saturday, November 16 as part of a benefit concert for Kate Winslet’s Golden Hat Foundation, which supports those living with autism. Tickets are available starting Friday, October 18. Visit www.carnegiehall.org for more.

It’s hard to imagine the members of Forte were complete strangers a few months ago. Having met just days before their first audition for America’s Got Talent, the trio mesmerized millions on the eighth season of the reality competition series. Solo artists in their own right, Josh Page, Sean Panikkar and Fernando Varela combine their individual talents to create one incredible, multicultural vocal force.

Josh Page answered his musical calling in 2011, after randomly being pulled on stage by Josh Groban to duet with the superstar at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. He has since been invited to fill in for Andrea Bocelli at rehearsals and joined former America’s Got Talent contestant Jackie Evancho on tour as a guest. Sean Panikkar, whose parents are from Sri Lanka, never dreamed of a career in opera. In fact, he enrolled in the engineering program at the University of Michigan. Opera gradually became a bigger part of Panikkar’s life, and after college, the singer performed with several prestigious institutions, including the Metropolitan Opera and San Francisco Opera. Raised in Puerto Rico, Fernando Varela was discovered on YouTube by hitmaker David Foster and ultimately won Foster’s “Born To Sing” contest. Varela’s global performances span some 31 countries, including a performance in Monte Carlo, Monaco with Maestro Giancarlo Chiaramello (conductor for the late Luciano Pavarotti), the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra in Canada and the National Symphony at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC.

Good for them. Simon has had success with these groups & I guess it makes sense to release ASAP. ( Hello Candice?)… I hope if it does well, we’d get some original music & not just more covers. More & more, it pays not to win. I want to see if anyone signs Taylor to a development dealor a long term ccomedy gig. What does someone like the winner does without a Vegas type gig

  • mason williams

the cash prize of a million dollars, which is not really a million, but 25,000 a year or a lump sum of somewhere like 400,000 if the winner chooses

i sent this tip to mj, who put it thanks mj

  • Amy Beth

Simon loves these faux highbrow acts.

  • mason williams

i knew simon would probably sign them after the show

  • girlygirl

I don’t get this whole opera-pop genre, it’s not anything I’d ever buy or listen to more than once. Having said that, they sound good and this genre does seem popular, especially in some European countries, so I can see why Simon signed them. Good luck to them.

  • Listening

Huh they already have an album. That seems super quick but I guess you’re just doing covers how hard is it you don’t have write nothing. They’re striking while the irons hot it’s actually smart I just wasn’t expecting it.

  • Listening

Oh but what I keep thinking about is the guy that left the group. I can’t help but think he got pushed out of the group b/c why leave a good thing. He was on the fast track if he wanted to leave the group why not wait until they failed not when you get your big moment. Then he gets replaced by someone good looking and a great singer. I think they found Sean Panikkar and said yous got to go to other guy.

I bet that guy that’s gone is crying right now.

You know what that actually crossed my mind. LOL

    “1. The Prayer

    3. Somewhere

    4. Unchained Melody

    5. My Heart Will Go On

    6. Caruso

    7. Nessun Dorma

    8. Bridge Over Troubled Water

    9. Something

    10. O Holy Night

    11. Silent Night”

Oh, look! It’s the only songs that Simon knows! (And the same ones that are on the first album of everybody in this pop-classical-mashup genre that he — or anyone — signs. Makes the rights issue much easier, I’m sure!)

I know they’re pretty, but doesn’t it seem odd that everybody isn’t a little bored with them by now. Music is so funny that way.

And way to get Christmas in there, Simon.

“Something”? Is that a companion piece to “Somewhere”?

  • lola

Love these guys. Didn’t know the back stories.

  • milwlovesadam

There is no denying that these guys are terrific. However, having been fans of Il Divo for a long time, and having just had the pleasure of seeing them live on Mother’s Day weekend, in a sold-out venue, they continue to just astound the senses with aural pleasure.

The whole season of AGT all I could think was “these guys are just a new Il Divo.” I don’t get it. They literally copied Il Divo’s songs, arrangements and style. What is original here? They are younger, less “professional”, wear jeans, not tuxes? What? They don’t have a smirking Spaniard? They don’t ooze sex and charm?

And they will sell millions of CD’s and pack theaters and make Christmas albums and Simon’s baby boy will have an even bigger trust fund.

  • usedtobelucy

“They are younger, less “professional”, wear jeans, not tuxes?’”

Aaa, they’re just a replacement, as Il Divo ages or Simon thinks they’re becoming outdated or not new enough or dressed in the wrong outfits to draw in the younger demographic who likes this music. It’s just a sign of all these people being interchangeable parts in a money machine that Simon et al hope to make a perpetual motion device. Or, if he’s really lucky, turn into *two* perpetual motion money machines that can both be pumping out Benjamins at once, drawn from slightly different groups of fans.

The “same songs” thing is the real giveaway, to me. It’s a formula that’s been proven to work. Now he’s just plugging in some slightly different variables.
