American Idol Ratings – The Numbers Improve

Nielsen Fast Overnight ratings from Marc Berman:

-Ratings Breakdown:
Led by American Idol, Fox got over à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“the humpà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  in winning fashion, beating second-place CBS by 5.33 million viewers and 2.8 rating points among adults 18-49. Third overall was ABC, followed by NBC and the CW.

American Idol was, of course, the top-rated show of the evening, with 23.07 million viewers and an 8.5 rating/20 share among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m. But recently introduced Fox drama Lie To Me, now in the 8 p.m. hour, deserves props for dominating the time period with 10.03 million viewers and a 3.1/10 in the demo. Despite the ongoing success of American Idol, keep in mind that the year-ago telecast was considerably stronger at 26.08 million viewers and a 9.8/25 among adults 18-49 (based on the final nationals on March 19, 2008)

The ratings are up from Tuesday, but still down from last year. Let’s see if the numbers improve over the next couple of weeks.

    Still no one is buying my St. Paddy’s Day slump theory for Tuesday? I know it doesn’t cover the entire drop from last year, but surely it can explain (in part) such a significant drop from last week and the dubious claim that a results show was more popular because of the silly “to save or not to save” drama?

    Oh well, I think this Tuesday can’t be fairly compared regardless. YMMV

    I agree. There were three very popular country music artists performing on the show Wednesday night. Country music fans who had no horse in the race this season probably tuned in to see those artists.

    Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley are both nominated for the ACM Entertainer of the Year. Randy Travis is a legend in country music.

    Too bad that the tools at Fox will think that the cruel twists caused the increase. Sad, really.

    I don’t think they do. It seems to me like they’re just grasping at straws to make the Judges Save look good. I doubt they actually believe it increased ratings, but they need the public to think that. Otherwise, all they can say is, “Oops, we screwed up… again.”

    Oh I buy that, people at work take off that day and the day after and I do not think it is because they want to recuperate after watching Idol all night long! heh
