With TV shows like The Voice and X Factor entering and diluting the singing competition market, and the continuing slide of American Idol’s ratings, it would only be logical for producers to be planning a few major tweaks–if not a full scale overhaul-of the new American Idol season.

The Idol Hollywood rounds are beginning next week, and what I’m hearing is that contestants are being instructed to show up on different days. Some are set to arrive in Los Angeles on Monday, December 10. Others on Thursday December 13. Hollywood is scheduled to end on Tuesday, December 18.

However, the separate arrival dates don’t appear to be random. It looks like the boys and girls are being split up into separate groups. The boys arrive on Monday, the girls on Thursday. But this is just speculation at this point, based on a small sample of contestants. Could the boys and girls be competing against each other for the first couple of days? I will update you all with details as soon as I know more!

Also, no word yet on a “Las Vegas” round. Perhaps the contestants will be staying in Los Angeles for the entire round. Again…as soon as I know you’ll know! Stay tuned.

Very interesting. As far as newer music goes, I see One Direction, Karmin, Carly Rae Jespen, The Wanted, and new songs like Home, Where Have You Been, Blow Me One Last Kiss, Starships, Die Young, and of course, all the Katy Perry songs. I also see Cher Lloyd on there.

I’m sure they will, there’s actually songs that aren’t on that list, even though they have been sang on the show before.

  • irockhard

The problem is unless they scrap the dated themes, we’ll only get to hear songs like that on 1 or 2 nights.

    How legit is that list?

I already know who the winner is, if they aren’t cut.

    Dylan.

They should do more broad themes like love songs, guilty pleasures, songs less than a year old, etc.

  • fuzzywuzzy

    Is “Dylan” a WGWG? lol

  • fuzzywuzzy

I think that IdolPad is a pretty reliable source for spoilers.

One boy and one girl makes no sense to me at all. Especially since the Grammy’s got rid of the male/female pop vocal category and made it just one vocal nomination.

Yes, I would like to see more “really” women like Elise or Erica.

  • fantoo1

Just like Paul McDonald was, right? Lol.

I believe Nigel(yeah I know) when he said Phillip was NOT the top vote getter every week. I am convinced having a great coronation song sealed his win. Yes, I believe WGWG aren’t invincible.

Thanks, irockhard. I had the one from last season – this was an interesting read – just in the “A”‘s so far.

This one has 18 Adele tunes – 17, if you don’t count the one w/Etta James, and 13 from Alicia Keys, solo and otherwise.

But while I don’t want to know the theme that applies to someone using a song of Weird Al’s  - I ‘Really’ don’t want to know where “May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose” fits in. Unless they are doing a theme tribute to late night TV hosts over the years – like Karnac the Magnificent on Johnny Carson. That was his trademark phrase. Heh. OTOH. – We could get “Foggy Day”, since Carson sang that on his show. I haven’t gotten to the ”G”‘s for Gershwin yet.

Always worth a *chuckle* to see how it applies.

They got the all the HW contestants right last year.

    Yes, Dylan is a WGWG.

  • mchcat

I seem to remember May the Bird………….. was a country comedy song by Little Jimmy Dickens (maybe)

  • Incipit

Yeah, mchcat, that’s the artist listed in the PDF. But seriously? Someone doing that song on Idol – I doubt it.

OTOH, I was being facetious about the Gershwin. There is no Gershwin on the list. Although, if anyone could pull off “Foggy Day” and actually do it justice, that would be a talent that would have MY attention!

Interesting fact for this season-Nikki McKibbin’s son auditioned!

There are a splattering of some great old rock tunes on that list. And I only had time to skim the first several pages quickly.

Can you imagine someone on Idol singing Bad Company’s “Feel Like Making Love” or Blue Oyster Cult “Don’t Fear The Reaper”? Talk about changing Idol’s image. lol

  • irockhard

LOL now that would be something!

I for one don’t mind the oldies but I’m tired of hearing the same ones every season, and it’s not even the cool ones like those examples you mentioned.

They apparently did a Stones theme for S9 but I didn’t watch that season, I heard it wasn’t great, it would’ve worked better with the S10 group.

LOL hearing that Nikki M’s son auditioned, well, now I feel old!
