Live blogging the Teen Choice Awards RIGHT HERE! Darren Criss and Pretty Little Liar, Lucy Hale are co-hosting. One Direction, Demi Lovato, Florida-Georgia Line and Paramore are set to perform and there will be appearances by Candice Glover, Emblem3, Fifth Harmony, and more. Many of your fav stars and TV shows are nominated–look out for a FULL winners list below.
One Direction opens the Teen Choice awards with a LIVE PERFORMANCE of their new song “Best Song Ever”. Harry’s hair is stranger than ever. It’s not as giant, but he’s got these weird curly sideburns. But it’s kinda short in the back! Liam has a…a thing growing out the back of his head. I’m mesmerized by the boys’ hair. Zayne is wearing a hat. Just has to be different. OK. I’ll admit it. I’ve got nothing. Lots of jumping around and singing to a backing track, which fades awkwardly at the end. The usual!
Wow. There are a lot of people gonna be here tonight. I could grab a snack during these credits. La la la.
Darren Criss and Lucy Hale take the stage! How awkward will this be? We’ll find out. Darren sings his intro. You teens (and others I’m sure) voted more than 150 million times! OK. One Direction won FOUR awards. I’ll update the winner’s list when I have a chance.
Oh. One Direction takes the stage one more time, because WE CAN’T GET ENOUGH. They pick up a surf board and gush about how incredible the award is. It’s their last day in America until they begin promoting their movie. Sadz.
Liam Hemsworth, from the Hunger Games, takes the stage. He won TWO awards tonight. Oh. He’s also the fiance? Boyfriend? Something? of Miley Cyrus. The Choice Movie Actress Comedy is Rebel Wilson from Pitch Perfect. She’s there to pick up her award. She’s wearing a pink wet suit with REBEL emblazoned on the front. THANK YOU TEENS she chants. She’s ready to surf. Making One Direction jokes…and THAT WAS BLEEPED. Oh Rebel. Choice Movie Actor Comedy is Skylar Astin, also from Pitch Perfect. He’s ever so grateful. And Pitch Perfect is the Choice Movie Comedy. Adam Devine is the Choice Movie Villain.
Darren and Lucy are out in the audience pointing out their castmates. Darren attempts to drum up some fake rivalry between Glee and Pretty Little Liars. The PLL fans are called the Pliers? LIKE TOOLS says Darren. Uhm. Are they really called pliers?
Chloe Mintz and some guy from Kick Ass hand out the Choice Break Up Song to Selena Gomez She’s also Summer Female Star and Summer Hottie. She’s a summer kind of gal.
DON’T TEXT AND DRIVE says Lucy. It’s the PSA portion of the show. Bridget Mendler and Tyler Posey take the stage. They present Choice TV Drama to Pretty Little Liars. Also Summer Choice TV Show. And a bunch of them won in their categories and are all together on stage to accept the award. I’ll update the list later.
Candice Glover, Bella Thorne and Joey King take the stage to introduce Florida-Georgia Line and washed-up rapper Nelly to sing “Cruise.” So. I guess that’s our glimpse of Candice for the night? If she had won the category she was nominated in (Breakout Artist) it would have been mentioned. Bye Candice. This song is dumb.
Lucy and Darren are dressed as a referee and football player, respectively to introduce Erin Andrews and Cody Simpson. Geez. HOW MANY RED BULLS DID DARREN DRINK BEFORE THE TELECAST. He’s hopped up on something. I should do a poll. Anywho. The duo hand out the Choice Female Athlete award to Gabby Douglas, who is an adorable vision in yellow and white. She’s a little intimidated by the tallness of her surfboard. She pledges to work to make the 2016 Olympics. She wants to make all of her peeps proud.
The AcuVue Inspire award is coming up! Fifth Harmony will hand out that award.
I haven’t QUITE figured out what the purpose of Jwoww appearing on this show is.
The irrepressible Demi Lovato takes the stage! She introducers the adorable girls, Fifth Harmony, who will hand the Acuvue Inspire award to another (Demi won it last year) “Inspiring” celebrity. I’m inspired that this award is sponsored by a contact lens company. The winner is Nick Jonas who has Type 1 diabetes? I didn’t even know that. He’s recognized for his fundraising efforts.
Lily Collins and Max Greenfield hand the Choice TV Comedy award to Glee. The cast takes the stage. Max doesn’t seem too sad that his show New Girl lost. Blake Jenner and Chord Overstreet won in their categories. Kevin McHale speaks first, thanking the cast and crew and producers, including Ryan Murphy. Amber Riley mentions Cory Monteith–that he Cory was like a brother and a dad…always ready to sign an autograph. He loved the Gleeks. Jenna Ushkowitz accepts the award and dedicates it to the fans, because that’s how Cory would have wanted it. Lea Michele won Choice Actress Comedy and she comes out on her own to accept her award. She’s very tearful VERY TEARFUL. She personally thanks everyone for their love and support over the past few weeks. She dedicates her award to Cory. “I promise with your love we’ll get through this together.” Amber, Jenna and Kevin are right behind her for support. Oh man. This is SO FREAKING SAD. “Cory reached out and he became a part of all of our hearts.” A tribute card, with a photo of Corey, ends the segment.
Abigail Breslin and Hailee Steinfeld from Enders Game take the stage to hand out Choice Movie Actor Drama to Logan Lerman from Perks of Being a Wallflower, which also won Choice Movie Drama. Wow that acceptance speech was boring.
Who are these people who just took the stage. Oh, it’s some sports guy, Russell Westbrook from the Oklahoma Thunder basketball team and Michelle Rodriguez. Russell is wearing an outfit that makes him look like a cow. They introduce Demi Lovato who performs “Made in the USA” I love you Demi BUT YOU CANNOT SING LIVE. Nick Jonas is playing drums. After, she accepts her Surfboard for Choice Female Artist. She dedicates the award to “a new little angel in heaven named Lola.”
Darren and Lucy will be twerking at the end of the broadcast. That’s just a warning. They’re out in the audience–Harry Styles is twerking now. I really didn’t need to see that. For real. Darren jokes about not knowing some of the super famous Ultimate Choice Nominees like JUSTIN TEEMBERLAKE. OK.
Josh Gadd takes the stage to present the Ultimate Choice Award to Ashton Kutcher. He’s won more Teen Choice Awards than ANYONE. Wow, the way Josh is going on about Ashton, you’d think he cured cancer rather than make a lot of money via his career as a mediocre comedic actor. Video retrospective gives me a chance to catch up on other things. Zzz. Ashton calls it “the grandpa award.” After this, I have to go to the old folks home, he says. He feels like a fraud, because his first name is really Chris. I’d say that’s not the only thing. Now, he has a few words of advice for you kiddies. It’s all about hard work. I’ll give him that. “I’ve never had a job that I was better than…I never gave up a job until I had another one.” He’s got a point. The sexiest thing in the entire world is being really smart. And thoughtful. And generous. EVERYTHING ELSE IS CRAP I PROMISE YOU. He’s about to burst into tears, I swear. Steve Jobs taught him a thing or two as well. Everything around us, that we call life, was made up by people who are no smarter than you. YOU CAN BUILD YOUR OWN LIFE. And don’t forget to be sexy. Alrighty then.
Darren introduces Kerry Washington and “the smoulder halder” Ian Somerhalder who hand out the award for Choice TV Comedy. Well, I know who DIDN’T win. Chris Colfer. Or he probably would have been at the awards with his fellow Glee actors. Oh boy. The winner is Jim Parsons from the wildly popular Big Bang Theory. He loves playing Sheldon every week. Uhm. I think Big Bang is totally overrated. But whatever.
Nina Dobrev and some other guy and a creeper (is that guy video bombing the presentation supposed to be there?) hand out the award for Choice Rock Group to Paramore. The band also happens to be performing their song “Into You.” It’s a party of blue and yellow balloons!
Maya Mitchell and Ross Lynch are the stars of Teen Beach Movie. Whee. They hand out Choice Summer Song to “We Can’t Stop” by Miley Cyrus. She’s also Choice TV Scene Stealer for her Two and a Half Men role. Daddy Cyrus is in the audience with a fugly hat. She mentions her “boo.” Guess that’s Liam Hemsworth? I can’t keep up. Miley is prevented from leaving the stage., as Little Mix come out to present the Candies Fashion Trendsetter award. Miley acts all surprised and stuff. She thanks her fans. BUT NOT HER STYLIST? That would have been a good idea. She’s got some see through thingy on tonight. Hello black bra.
More NEVER TEXT AND DRIVE stuff from Darren and Lucy. Lauren Morano and Emblem3 take the stage. They won Best Breakout Group. They are so excited. As excited as faux surfer dudes can be. Bruno Mars won two awards, Choice Summer Music Star and Choice R&B Artist. He accepts it via satellite while on tour. He sings his acceptance speech. He does a deep voiced 70s deal. “DO YOU HAVE LOVE FOR BRUNO MARS. YES YOU DO,” he croons.
Choice breakout artist, Ed Sheeran and LL Cool J take the stage. Choice Personality Female goes to Demi Lovato for X Factor. She’s cleaning up tonight! She promotes the show. Don’t forget to watch. Like ya’ll did last year. And the year before.
The last award is handed out to Choice Summer Movie Star Female. And it’s Sandra Bullock. She also wins Choice Movie Chemistry. She apologizes for a joke about putting a peanut up your nose in her movie The Heat. I’m guessing that wasn’t the grossest thing in the film.
OK. Now it’s time to make the Twerking World Record for most people twerking at once or something. They command everyone in the audience to get up and twerk. It’s kind of a huge failure, with noone really twerking (which involves shaking your ass vigourously). But it appears they somehow broke the record anyway. And we are out.
