So You Think You Can Dance Auditions Cancelled Due to Coronavirus Concerns

While so many TV productions were cancelling tapings, the FOX competitive dance show, So You Think You Can Dance tried to plow on with auditions. But current coronavirus pandemic guidelines/restrictions left producers with no option but to cancel the show’s upcoming schedule.

“The health and safety of all So You Think You Can Dance dancers and staff is very important to us,” the social media message reads, “Due to the rapidly evolving circumstances of the coronavirus/covid-19, So You Think You Can Dance must immediately cancel the upcoming, in-person auditions in Miami, New York City and Los Angeles.”

The message continues, “If you have already submitted online, your submission is still in consideration. Otherwise, online auditions may be submitted up until midnight Sunday, March 22, 2020. If you are invited for the next stage of the auditions, a production representative will contact you with additional information in the near future. Thank you all for your commitment to the well-being of our So You Think You Can Dance community.”

SYTYCD didn’t have a premiere date, but is supposed to air this summer. With everything locked up tight, and no contestants to even FILM episodes if they could, it’s going to be hard for the show to keep on schedule. I would not be surprised if the season was totally scrapped. That’s where we are right now with this unprecedented epidemic.

Dance competitions won’t be a complete washout this summer, however. NBC’s World Of Dance season 4 DID manage to film it’s entire season before everything went to heck in handbasket. Something to look forward to.
