  1. I’m so disappointed that this was never made available on i-tunes Canada. I had promised to gift it to a number of friends when it became available, but it never did. Puzzling, since all of the other idol related music is available. I’ve donated to AI when Kris was on Idol, but selfishly, I’d have loved to have his version of this song.

  2. Kris did such a wonderful job on this song….and it doesn’t make sense it wasn’t available in Canada….It’s for the United Nations after all…It’s a shame….

  3. Thanks for putting the reminder up, MJ.

Kris rendition of this is hauntingly beautiful. I can’t describe the passion and raw emotion he puts into it. ‘Let It Be’ has always been my go to song when things were bad in my life. It’s like a prayer to me. I’m having one of those times as is my family. After listening again (if this were a 45 it would be worn through) I felt compelled to share my ‘prayer’ with them and just gifted 10 copies.

From our pain, maybe some good can come.

  4. I don’t know why Idol didn’t give a brief mention of this single each show or at least occasionally. As far as I know, it was never mentioned once. They have time for lots of uninteresting and often even uncomfortable banter between Ryan and the judges, seems like they could manage a few seconds to remind people about Kris’ single.

Not to be “hard hearted Hanna, here” but if Idol were to “promo” Kris’ Haiti single it would set a precedent that could overwhelm Idol. So if Kris does something for Haiti do you mention Adam’s Donor’s choose, or Danny’s Sophia’s heart, or David Cook’s cancer charities, or the projects David Archuleta is involved with.

Charity and donations can also be a bit of a “downer” for what is supposed to be an upbeat and fun evening for contestants and viewers. Too much…”won’t you give now”, though needed, needs to be confined to a certain time and place…you just can’t ask the public to “give” on a continual basis.

Of course they are not going to promote every charity an Idol is involved with. Since “Let It Be” was performed on Idol to promote aid to Haiti, I don’t think it is the same category at all. A few words of reminder would have probably resulted in lots of donations and wasn’t that the purpose in the first place?

  7. @TwigLA, that was a beautiful thing to do. Music is such a comfort. Your gesture really makes me thankful to all the talented musician out there that are able to so eloquently and beautifully comfort us when our souls are weeping. Take care, darling.

  8. I’m also annoyed they didn’t release this in Canada. It make s no sense, it’s for charity. I tweeted everyone I could to complain. No one got back to me. What a shame.

But Kris did “Let it Be” not only to help Haiti but also to kick off “Idol Gives Back.” It seems that a good way to keep IGB in people’s minds and show AI’s genuine commitment to charity would be to promote LIB. The charity efforts of the other Idols aren’t connected to IGB or AI, so it makes sense that they wouldn’t be mentioned.

TwigLA–thanks for your heartfelt post. Hope things get better.

Same here ..sigh.. made a donation that night but was wishing to get this version on my ipod. I was listening again to it on YT this week, and somehow Kris made it so meaningful and heartfelt for this charity. That’s talent yes, but there is a big heart behind it.
    Hope it goes better TwigLA.

As others stated, this performance had nothing to do with “Kris Allen charities”, but something he did as part of Idol Gives Back. Maybe Donors Choose and Sophia’s Heart will eventually become part of IGB, but would be irrelavent to that particular cause at this time. Since IGB was mentioned last night, it don’t think that mentioning Kris’ single as part of it, would have been too much of a burden, or “downer” for the viewers to endure.

I think idols who have charities they really want to support should take a page out of Hansons’ (yes the former teen band) pr book. Their website has a link to activism and it ask people to donate to TOMS shoes and do get involved with a varity of charities. Actually I would love for Hanson to go on IGB as this kind of work is close to their hearts.

By the way, I recall David Cook is a fan of Hanson. :)

  13. Um, yeah, Kris performed Let It Be on Idol for Idol Gives Back, so that would definitely put that in a different category than all the other Idol charities, as far as being mentioned on the show. I think that it would have been appropriate to mention it Wed. night when they talked about Idol Gives Back. I’m sure there were many, many people watching this week that weren’t watching the week Kris was on and don’t know about it. And surely many of those new people would want to download the song. Oh well.

Hope97 and Mtlfan, is it possible for someone in the US to gift the song to you in Canada? I would be happy to do that for you, but I have no idea how that works.

  14. Thank mj, you’re a lifesaver!! I hadn’t downloaded it yet because I’m having trouble with my itouch, but I went ahead and downloaded to my account! Thanks!

I don’t get this comment, either. Kris was asked to single a charity single on Idol as a kick-off to IGB. The single is promoted on the Idol website. I’m not aware of any connection between Idol & those other charitable projects, so why would they warrant a mention on the broadcast?

  16. I think all of IGB is going to be for Haiti this year. They certainly need every dime they can get. If it’s not, I’m certain there will be a large portion of the donations going to the Haiti relief effort.

Twig LA: It’s a blessing when music can help in a time of adversity or sorrow. I hope you and your family find some peace in whatever situation you are facing.

Simon Fuller asked Kris to go to Haiti, and to kick off IGB with his appearance on the show, and his single to benefit Haiti. I don’t get what that has to do with Danny or Adam and their non-Idol-related charities. People are just saying that since Idol was the originator of this single to benefit Haiti, it would have made sense to continue to publicize it after the original appearance by Kris. The single made a lot of money for Haiti, but a brief mention on the show each week would have resulted in even more money being collected.

  18. It always seemed odd to me that this Idol-produced charity single was not more promoted on the show. I went back and watched the original performance and Ryan says LIB would be available on itunes before Kris sings, but he did not mention it again after he sang (he mentioned about the donations via text and phone both times, though). It was all a little confusing, especially when he said only for the next 24 hours would donations go to Haiti. And then the song didn’t appear for what, 24 hours later on itunes? It would have been nice to clarify for viewers at any time during this past month, that the song was still available and all the proceeds would go to Haiti. It would have taken less than 30 seconds! *sigh*

I love the song, I love Kris’ interpretation of the song, and I love that it has motivated people to give to a good cause. It’s also heartwarming to know that it has helped those of us who bought it as well. You’re right TwigLA, it is like a prayer. A prayer of hope in “our hour of darkness”. I’m glad it is bringing you some comfort and peace…let it be.

  19. Personally, I feel that if people are going to give, they are going to give. Everyone who watches the show is aware of the “Idol Gives Back” and Ryan has mentioned it. Apart from the single that Kris did, people can still give for the “cause” and, if my memory serves me, even when they do the episode in April for “Idol Gives Back” there will still be plenty of time to give then. So, for me it’s about the giving, not the single.

  20. OnePlusSix, everyone who watches the show isn’t aware of IGB and a lot of people missed that show. Results nights traditionally have a lower viewer rating.

I was one of many who were confused by what Ryan said and thought that the donation to Haiti would only be for 24 hours. THen the song wasn’t even available. I tried to find out from both AI and iTunes and got no response. I bought it for myself when I could and I also donated $100 at AI’s website.

It is about giving and not the single, though the single is beautiful. But here in America we’re used to buying things for charity and most charities know they can make more in donations by selling something than they can by just asking for money.

IGB in April will not be about Haiti. There are many charities that the funds raised will be distributed to. THis one was earmarked for the UNF relief efforts in Haiti.

(To many others: Thank you for your kind words.)

  21. IGB is not really about helping people — it’s about making it appear as if AI cares. The people who do the leg work probably do care, but IGB is conceived only for appearances. That’s why they devote so little time for it on the show except for that one night a year (if they feel like it — see last year). That they help needy people is just a by-product and not the real purpose.

  22. IGB is not really about helping people — it’s about making it appear as if AI cares.

i dont know if we can be as judgemental as that, but as far as i know, a lot of the advocacy programmes launched by non-charities, for eg. cooperate organisations like the Idol machine, usually get involved in relief aid if there is a media buzz. and Idol Gives Back could also be a scheme which helps promote its own CSR initiatives. the intentions behind some schemes may or may not be well founded, but i personally find that the negligence n oversight on the part of Idol is a shame. if someone had the foresight to take 2 mins off and reminded everyone of Kris’s haiti trip, it would have made a world of different to a lot of people in Haiti.

on the other hand, i just hope that Kris and other idols continue to raise awareness on such issues.

  23. @TwigLA Thank you for pointing that out to me. It sheds another light on the whole giving idea. I guess I’m the type of person who sees a need and is there to give regardless, whereas, others find it easier to give in the form of receiving something tangible – makes sense. Either way as long as Haiti is on the receiving end, I’m happy. Also, I have just recently been seeing videos and other media-related material with Kris promoting the Haiti relief fund. So, all is good!

  24. Hope97 and Mtlfan, is it possible for someone in the US to gift the song to you in Canada? I would be happy to do that for you, but I have no idea how that works.

awwww, gulfluv, this is nice of you!!
I have no idea if this is possible. I checked this feature on Itunes and nothing is said about that. I doubt that the Itunes stores are connected from one country to another but if you want to try i can give you my account number. I could send a check to you if you want

  25. Hope97 and Mtlfan, is it possible for someone in the US to gift the song to you in Canada? I would be happy to do that for you, but I have no idea how that works

gulfluv, what an incredibly sweet offer! Like Mtlfan, I have no idea if this is possible between countries. Your offer warmed my heart and made my day, though, so thank you!

  26. IGB in April will not be about Haiti. There are many charities that the funds raised will be distributed to. THis one was earmarked for the UNF relief efforts in Haiti.

I wasn’t really sure about that. I read that somewhere (could have been here) and I thought it was a wonderful idea.
Oh well, IGB reaches millions of people and raises a lot of money. I’m sure the revenues from that show will be funneled to many worthy causes.

  27. “ope97 and Mtlfan, is it possible for someone in the US to gift the song to you in Canada? I would be happy to do that for you, but I have no idea how that works”

Someone very kindly gifted Let It Be to me from Europe[ I am in Australia]. I’m not sure how she did it but I was very appreciative. Gifting from the US is simple if you have a US credit card.
I also don’t know why they didn’t make this available on i-Tunes in all countries like thy did for the Haiti CD – after all its all for the same cause!!
