  3. I think September has its best iTunes position to date especially if you factor in all the Glee songs on the chart.

  4. Single download #s are in:

  5. Looks like two more weeks and IIHY will be gold. Good job with FYE still moving along. It’s great to see WWFM still selling. So excited for the international tour to start. I wish we could get better international sales numbers on FYE album and all the singles that have been released.

  6. Wow, Glee domination of iTunes. Half the songs in the top 10 currently are from Glee including the #1 and #2 songs on the chart.

  7. That’s a big move up iTunes for September. I think its previous high chart position was #68.

IIHY will probably get a slight bump next week in sales. Probably 2 more weeks before it goes gold?

Wonder how Brian got the sales numbers for Josiah’s album. It must be listed on that chart (which I can’t remember name of) that Lee’s pre-Idol album charted on for a couple of weeks

Looks like both LLWD and TT will have sold 3-4K last week (based on the numbers for Carie’s various songs and where they all ranked on iTunes in relation to where Kris’s songs ranked)

  8. Can anyone tell me when Daughtry’s September was released on iTunes?Very nice to see it’s moving up on iTunes. Looks like it gets a big bump from last night’s DWTS appearance.

IIHY will reach gold within two weeks. Yay!!!!! :)

  9. I remain confused about Jive’s strategy for Archie (well, I remain confused about Jive’s strategy in general, actually). Does Elevator have an official add date yet?

  10. Can anyone tell me when Daughtry’s September was released on iTunes?

Unless the label decides to release a special “single” version of a song, a follow-up single is usually just the album track. So September has been available since July of last year.

Nice to see so many albums with legs.

  11. I was sad to see Josiah’s numbers, but I’m not surprised because of how long he waited.

In other news, according to Zac Maloy, one of the songwriters, Cook’s “Come Back to Me” has now sold gold.

    He says:

hey, i know how many of ya downloaded “come back to me”. 500,118…..wait a sec. that’s gold baby! congrats to @thedavidcook and his camp!!!

What!? I wasn’t here during the cook era. I didn’t know this didn’t go gold. Wow. What did this song do on radio?

  13. What did this song do on radio?

Nothing on CHR. Hung around on HAC for quite awhile, though.

  14. Unless the label decides to release a special “single” version of a song, a follow-up single is usually just the album track. So September has been available since July of last year.

Nice to see so many albums with legs.

    Thank you standtotheright.

  15. “Come Back to Me” peaked at 6 on HAC and charted some on AC.

I think the song is actually a fun case study for songs that are successful on HAC without any Pop success. I’ve always wondered how many units a HAC hit sells vs. a Pop hit. Seems like a higher ranking HAC song could be equivalent to a very moderate Pop hit (although admittedly, CBTM has had over a year to sell as a single).

ETA. Light On also took a relatively long time to sell platinum (a year or so). Still, in the end that means Cook’s had two platinum singles and one gold single off of a platinum album. Those will be nice stats to trumpet when they promote the new album next year.

#Thanks everyone for helping “Come Back To Me” reach Gold Status! You’re all so incredible! 15 minutes ago via web

    Congrats, David!

  17. I remain confused about Jive’s strategy for Archie (well, I remain confused about Jive’s strategy in general, actually). Does Elevator have an official add date yet?

No it doesnt yet. SBL’s never got listed on all access but was on fmqb. But so far nada for elevator. Honestly have NO idea what they are doing.

  18. Cookie stats per Folkfan at DCO

CBTM -Hot 100 peaked at #63, AC peaked at #11 and going recurrent, HAC peaked at #6 and going recurrent

LO -Hot 100 peaked at #17 and ultimate going recurrent on the Hot 100, AC peaked at #10 and going recurrent, HAC peaked at #4 and going recurrent, CHR peaked at #20 and going recurrent

DCTR -BB200 peaked at #3, BB rock albums peaked at #2 and #1 on digital albums

    Way to go Cookie.

I thought Chris Sligh was a lot more popular.

    In his mind, he is.

  20. Ratings for the 2nd season premiere of Fantasia For Real from Travis Yanan:

    Fantasia For Real (31 minutes)
    – 1.144 million viewers
    – 0.7/1 HH
    – 0.6/1 A18-49

  21. I read somewhere that most religious music is sold at Bookstores so the Soundscan numbers may not accurately reflect Sligh’s sales. Although <1K is pretty lousy for an opening week irregardless.

  22. I thought Chris Sligh’s album dropped a couple of weeks ago. I don’t think these are his opening week sales #’s — although I could be wrong (again :) )

  23. I think September has its best iTunes position to date especially if you factor in all the Glee songs on the chart.

Thank you, Dancing With the Stars? They really highlighted Chris very nicely last night, I thought.

  24. I thought Chris Sligh was a lot more popular.

Maybe he’s quite popular but in a small market? I’ve never gotten why Christian music doesn’t sell more, but it doesn’t seem to. … Of course, just like pop music gets more free-downloaded than bought, maybe Christian music is bought more in stores that don’t report music sales? I mean, I’m sure he sold more last week than what’s reported there, no?

  25. David Cook’s numbers for his debut album are awesome. Platinum album, 2 platinum singles and a Gold single. He also had 3 top ten HAC singles. So I think that when they market the new album these will be great selling points. Way to go David. I don’t know for sure but I think the album probably hit all the marks the label wanted it to.

  26. Christian music is a smaller market but I wouldn’t say Chris Sligh has ever been near the top of the genre in popularity.

Sligh’s album was listed as new by Brian. I saw some tweets from Sligh stating that there were some distribution problems getting the CD out in stores so that probably had a something to do with the low sales. I agree that it probably wouldn’t have resulted in much of an lift because of the market.

  28. I’m really interested to see what Cook’s camp is coming up with and whether or not it can get high on CHR as well as HAC. Especially what came out of the trips to Europe.

    I keep picturing a Cookified Kelly-type song.

    Can’t wait!

I think it all comes down to promotion, the same is true for Josiah, and everyone else. How can people buy their albums, if they don’t know about them or their music.

I read somewhere that most religious music is sold at Bookstores so the Soundscan numbers may not accurately reflect Sligh’s sales. Although <1K is pretty lousy for an opening week irregardless.

There is almost no gap in Christian music reporting to Soundscan. Family Christian Stores (#1 chain in sector) and LifeWay Christian Stores (#2) both report.

The CMTA (Christian Music Trade Association) operates Christian SoundScan, operated by the Christian Music Trade Association, is a central clearing house for music industry data, providing weekly point-of-sale information with the highest possible degree of accuracy and integrity. Over 1,300 stores nationwide currently report to Christian SoundScan, including national chains, regional chains, hundreds of independent stores and internet retail sites. (The also run Christian BDS.) http://www.cmta.com/overview.htm
Christian SoundScan is used for the associated Billboard Charts and is available to SoundScan subscribers.

The CBA (Christian Booksellers Association) provides members with Soundscan reporting info on their website and includes it in there Tradeshows.

And the Christian music publishers work with retailers to encourage them to report.

Overall, the entire sector works hard to make sure that sales are reported.

The only big gap that I know of is most of the Catholic retailers do not report sales. But they really don’t sell this kind of “inspirational” music. Focus specifically on Catholic merchandise.

LOL My thoughts exactly. Brag about it when it’s time to promote new work.
I didn’t think CBTM would get to gold actually. I thought it was far from it and barely selling. But good for them.

  32. Brag about it when it’s time to promote new work.

    Killjoy. * large exaggerated wink*

No doubt the Press Releases for DCTR2 will do so, Leome, but for people watching and waiting as it inched closer and closer, this is a big deal! Especially for those of us (raises hand) who supported it, but didn’t particularly have it as a favorite song in the first place.

Also, that means half a million people who were not part of the Million.3 who already owned the track from the album have bought the single. I kinda sorta want to brag about that for a minute too – and Zac Maloy and David’s enthusiasm is catching – KWIM? *chuckle*

  33. No doubt the Press Releases for DCTR2 will do so, Leome, but for people watching and waiting as it inched closer and closer, this is a big deal! Especially for those of us (raises hand) who supported it, but didn’t particularly have it as a favorite song in the first place.

Hey, even if it didn’t sound like it, I’m one of those who follows all his numbers and I’m really happy it got to be gold. Like I said, I wasn’t expecting it, so way to go. I always supported that song as a single (to me it was the most CHR friendly) so it’s good to see that another 500K liked it too ;)

  34. Chris is not happy.

ChrisSligh There are songs I hear on radio and understand that they must have gotten played b/c of some kind of Christian payola.

  35. Congrats to Fantasia on her album sales. I was not really watching Idol much after the first season (that is until Adam hooked me on S8) but I did happen to catch Fantasia sing “Summertime” and I thought she was fabulous. It is good to see FYE still selling steadily and still in the BB200. I too wish we had more info on international sales but I guess we have to settle for certifications. BTW, did WWFM go gold or platinum in Germany?
