The Ralphie Report

…It is the singer new song, …Crush. The single made the highest Billboard Hot 100 debut in 18 months, losing out to only Rihanna …Disturbia for the top spot. Archuleta forthcoming LP is tentatively self-titled and slated for a November release.

Could Archuleta be the next Clay Aiken ‘ a runner-up, small in stature, large in vocals ‘ outshining the season winner? He hasnt reached out to Aiken for any advice, instead leaning on someone a little more relatable in current career path and age ‘ last year winner and Jive label-mate Jordin Sparks.

But, dont count out Cook yet. A source close to the singer revealed exclusively to me that three tracks were mixed down in studio for the rocker this week, all with the potential to be a radio single heard before the end of the month.

Katy Perry may have covered …Like A Virgin at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, but Jordin Sparks was living it ‘ loudly. Attending the show for the first time, the American Idol winner went off-script after being agitated by host Russell Brand’s repeated mocking of the Jonas Brothers promise rings. “It something I feel strongly about, she tells EW.com. …I wish I wouldve worded it differently ‘ that somebody who doesnt wear a promise ring isnt necessarily a slut ‘ but I cant take it back now. Idols But Not Originals Review

Most of the Idols have good voices and attempted to make the songs their own, but some of the arrangements were so close to the originals as to raise the question, …Why bother?

Michael Johns, for example, did by-the-book versions of Queen …We Will Rock You and …We Are The Champions, before redeeming himself with a slow, bluesy take on Dolly Parton …It All Wrong But It All Right. He followed that up with Aerosmith …Dream On, which he noted was the song that got him kicked off …American Idol.

David Archuleta Has a Crush…on Someone

When I was a teen and beginning to question my sexuality it was hard to come to terms with the fact that I had crushes on the boys around me rather than the girls. I remember asking myself, ‘why do I keep running from the truth?’

Interesting then, that the video for David Archuleta’s new single Crush tracks Archuleta’s attention on the boys almost as often as the girls. Others have noticed as well. And if Archuleta is playing to a bigger audience than the female teen/tween crowd, kudos to him.

Russell Brand/ Jonas Brothers VMA Flap Spurs Abstinence Group’s Leader To Send Purity Ring to Palin’s Daughter

Russell Brand might be the best thing to ever happen to purity rings.

Though the British comedian was roundly flamed by Jonas Brothers fans for relentlessly mocking the boys’ abstinence symbols during Sunday night’s VMAs, the ribbing might actually be a blessing in disguise for the movement.

No (hot) air

Is it just me, or did anyone else find Jordin Sparks’ VMA comments about purity ring showboating just a weenzy bit offensive?

Now, it’s not the defense of the purity rings part that annoys me. It’s more of the “hey, if you don’t save yourself for marriage, like me and the Disney Channel chastity brigade, you’re a total slut and deserve to be spit on” part.

Children of Men Meet Hollywood’s hottest new accessory: the gaybie

Tom Ford wardrobes, Fire Island homes, and Le Corbusier chaises have long been coveted power gay accessories, but now celebrities like Clay Aiken and Ricky Martin are flaunting a new, even more exclusive essential: the gaybie.

Yes, the gaybie. A baby gayness hath wrought. Found sashaying down the uteri of surrogate mothers worldwide, providing self-actualization and status-faction to Hollywood’s single fathers. (For the sake of brevity, and legality, “I consider sort of obviously gay despite publicist claims” is herein truncated simply as “gay.”)

‘American Idol’ finalist McPhee’s in ‘The House’

HOLLYWOOD – On a hot summer afternoon in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley, “American Idol” finalist Katharine McPhee talks about her recent switch from singing to acting and boils down her role in “The House Bunny, ” now playing in theaters, to two words: preggie suit.

“That’s what they call it, ” she says, laughing at the memory of playing Harmony, a very pregnant hippie throwback who totes around a tub of peanut butter, spoon at the ready, and wears flower-child dresses.

The Sun’s Lindsey Ward confidently predicts Lethbridge’s Theo Tarns — maybe

There’s no turning back now, Canada.

The votes are in, and this year’s Canadian Idol — be it Port Hood, Nova Scotia’s Mitch MacDonald or Lethbridge, Alberta’s Theo Tams — has already been determined.

Of course, we won’t know who has won rights to the sixth karaoke crown until tonight, when the CTV competition comes to a rousing finish.

After nearly two hours of performances, season recaps, and forced banter between host Ben Mulroney and judges Farley Flex, Sass Jordan, Zack Werner and Jake Gold, the moment you have been waiting for all summer will arrive.

Even the judges are weary of Canadian Idol ‘talent’

Never mind the grating host, irrelevant mentors, lacklustre talent and ingratiating Pantene commercials disguised as creative content — when the judges start dissing the inaugural singles written for winners on Canadian Idol (8 p.m. on CTV), you know the writing is on the wall.

“Song-wise, neither of ’em were my favourites!” an unimpressed Jake Gold told Alberta’s Theo Tams and Nova Scotia’s Mitch MacDonald on Monday’s east-versus-west pre-finale duke-out.

“But, y’know, you’ll probably get a lot of airplay if you win.”
