New Birmingham restaurant co-owned by Taylor Hicks to be named ‘Ore’

Taylor Hicks, the Birmingham singer and musician who mined gold on “American Idol, ” will name his new restaurant “Ore, ” according to a filing made with the city of Birmingham.

A liquor license application for a restaurant by that name at 1117 Dunston Ave. was recommended for approval Wednesday by the City Council’s Joint Public Safety and Technology Committee. The real estate company handling the lease on that property said recently that the location was under contract to Taylor’s venture, though the name of the restaurant wasn’t known at that time.

‘Idol’ Contestant House Fire — The Charred Remains

The single mom who belts out an AMAZING rendition of Melissa Etheridge’s “I’m the Only One” on “American Idol” tonight nearly lost her house in a recent fire — and TMZ has photos of the carnage.

Sources close to 28-year-old Wendy Taylor tell TMZ, the blaze roared through her Houston home Friday night — right after she tucked her three boys into bed.

We’re told Wendy had stepped outside to make a phone call when she heard her dogs scratching at the door — at which point, she discovered massive amounts of smoke billowing through her house and dialed 911.

She and the kids made it out in one piece — sadly, the same can’t be said for her kitchen.

The ten-track set, titled “Ropin’ Dreams, ” was recorded by a teenage Schulz in Austin and released on the Texas-based independent label BSW Records in the U.S., Europe and Pacific Rim, BSW president and CEO Frank Willson confirms to Billboard.com.

A History of Aerosmith on ‘American Idol’

In the decade that American Idol has been on the air, Aerosmith songs have been performed on the live show no less than nine times! Of course, some versions of “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” are better than others, but there’s certainly no shortage of options, including one as recent as last week, when 15-year-old Lauren Alaina wowed Steven Tyler himself. Below, nine more note-worthy Aerosmith moments on Idol.
1. Adam Lambert “Cryin'” (Season 8)

It was Adam Lambert’s final song on Top 3 night and he chose the late-era Aerosmith hit, “Cryin’, ” for one last bow. “Steven Tyler’s the man, I wanna do him proud, ” said Adam before launching into a rousing, octave-defying rendition of the band’s 1993 hit. The performance left Kara DioGuardi speechless (shocker), Paula Abdul was another matter. “You set the bar so high in the sky, I hope you’re gonna be collecting frequent flyer miles, ” she told Adam from the judges’ table. “You’re gonna be flying for free everywhere!”

Jennifer Lopez touts most talented ‘Idols’ yet

Lopez, who brings her signature superstar glamour to the newly made-over judging panel, said she’s had to fight back the tears when meeting contestants like Chris Medina, whose fiancee suffered traumatic brain injury in a car accident just months before they were to walk down the aisle.

“It’s tough. It’s emotional. But this is the thing about ‘American Idol’ that I love. It’s about people and their dreams and their struggles, and that’s what I think everybody loves about it. You see yourself in these people, ” she said backstage after a press conference announcing her new partnership with Gillette Venus.

Other heart-wrenching moments include twin Travis Orlando, who took “Idol” cameras on a tour of the Bronx shelter he once called home, and Nashville’s Lauren Alaina, who sang “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” with judge Steven Tyler, after recounting her cousin’s battle with a brain tumor.

‘Glee’ Gets Its Super Bowl Spot, but Can Simon Cowell Get a Big Ad?

Fox could have as much as four minutes’ worth of time for ads for its shows, commonly known in the industry as “promos, ” according to Mr. Earley. The network will use its time to draw attention to “Glee, ” an episode of which will air after the Super Bowl ends, as well as other shows coming up during the week, such as “House” and “American Idol.” New programs that will get the spotlight on Super Bowl Sunday include “The Chicago Code” and “Traffic Light.” And Fox could raise eyebrows should it follow through on plans to offer sneak previews of two programs widely anticipated for the fall: “Terra Nova, ” the would-be blockbuster series about a family that journeys back in time to the prehistoric era, and “X Factor, ” the new singing showcase produced by former “American Idol” judge Simon Cowell.
