Bryan, Phillips, Swindell, Davidson gather for homecoming show – “My hometown is more than a place for me. It is a way of life,” Bryan, a Leesburg native who is one of country music’s biggest stars, said. “Growing up in south Georgia has had such an impact on me in so many ways, and I’m so glad that this group of amazing artists and writers are able to come back home and help those who have been hit by such devastation over the past couple of years.” “Albany is my home,” Phillips, who made fans of Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith lead singer Stephen Tyler on his way to claiming the “American Idol” title, said. “I have traveled near and far, but I always come back home. This is where my family is and where I planted my roots. I was home on Jan. 22, 2017, when the tornado ravaged our area and surrounding areas. I was able to get out that night and in the days following to serve alongside my community, seeing the true heart of our city. I am honored to have the opportunity now to play this special show.” – Read more at Albany Herald

Chris Daughtry sent a text to Dave Grohl. It led to an epic night — and a revelation. – Q. So, apparently you guys are having a little trouble figuring out where you want to settle down, huh? (Laughing.) Yeah, we can’t seem to stay in one place. We’re in search of utopia. … I moved to L.A. for other purposes, wanting to branch out and diversify a little bit. But we never bought a house there. We were kind of renting, and we just never really did feel settled. It was a year of feeling in limbo and not sure what was next. Then after being there for a year, we were like, “Hmm, maybe that wasn’t the right move.” (Laughing.) And Nashville felt like a lateral move with the music and whatnot, so it worked out — especially with making this last record. … We like it here (in Nashville). But I do miss Charlotte. Actually, I was just talking about that with my wife about an hour ago. We miss it very dearly. – Read more at Charlotte Observer

How Panda Ross overcame tragedy to make triumphant ‘X Factor’ return – Ross says that when she was approached by the show this year, she initially turned down an invitation to audition because she had “ a lot going on” in her life — namely her husband’s battle with lung cancer. But she says the producers were “really persistent,” and it was her husband who encouraged her to go for it. “He said, ‘Hey, this is what you’ve been fighting for and wanting. This has been your destiny since 2012. You need to go for it, and you need to give it your all.’ So, I went for it.” Sadly, Ross’s husband passed away shortly after her audition. Still, Cowell, despite his preexisting fondness for Ross, wasn’t going to give her special treatment. So, when he disapproved of her original (unaired) audition song choice, “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” (he thought it was “too easy” for her), he interrupted her during the fourth verse and sent her backstage to work on a second option, Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like a) Natural Woman.” Ross says she was “devastated.” – Read more at Yahoo
