With 71.44% of reports in, “Frozen” is taking it sales to a new level. “Frozen” has been selling steadily in the 90K range since the year began, but this week, the DVD was released and turbo-charged the sales to almost 200K. This will be its 7th non-consecutive week at the top of the album chart. I can only imagine what the sales of that DVD were like.
The number one debuting album of the week is actually a debut album from rapper YG far behind in second. Foster the People whose previous hit “Pumped up Kicks” caused so much debate on Idol forums last week have a new album out this week. “Supermodel” is expected to finish third while electronic musician Skrillex is fourth. Pharrell Williams may have opened slightly lower than expected, but he’s making it up by having legs and staying in the top 5. Enrique Iglesias is debuting in 6th.
Pretty Reckless is a rare hard rock band fronted by a female having success on radio these days. Taylor Momsen, a former “Gossip Girl”, becomes just the second female lead singer to top the Mainstream Rock chart in 24 years. Rock is definitely a boy’s club. The band is currently in 7th.
Now 49 (featuring X-Factorers 1D and Simone Battle) are 8th, rapper Rick Ross is 9th and Lorde has been camping in the top 10 for a while now.
The lone reality singing show contestants in the top 50 continue to be One Direction and they may not hold out much longer since they are in 46th. Time for them to power up a new single (or Carrie to release a new album). David Cook co-wrote a single on David Nail’s album currently at 50th. Finally, Glee’s Lea Michele is at 44th in her third week.
