Boston Idol Auditions Attract 7, 000

From the Associated Press:

Thousands of “American Idol” hopefuls braved showers and unseasonable cold winds Sunday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. with the hopes of becoming the show’s next star.

The Season Nine kickoff auditions managed to attract around 7, 000 contestants from the East Coast. Some showed up around 3 a.m. Sunday for a place in line.

Host Ryan Seacrest said the bad weather may have been a plus for contestants since it likely reduced competition.

Only 7, 000 peeps showed up for the only auditions on the East coast this year? Season 7 auditions in Philadelphia had a turnout of 20, 000, and Season 8 auditions in East Rutherford NJ last year had 15, 000.

But maybe Boston isn’t a popular place for folks to trek. I tried to find out how many auditioned the last time Idol came to Boston, back in 2005 for Season 5, and couldn’t get an exact number, but it also appears to have been less than 10, 000. Rain also hampered the proceedings back then too….
