Allison Iraheta is Signed to 19 and Jive Records!

Entertainment Weekly has the scoop:

And the record deals for American Idol season 8 finalists continue to roll in at a quick clip. After champion Kris Allen’s deal with 19/Jive and runner-up Adam Lambert’s deal with 19/RCA were announced earlier this week, EW has exclusively learned that 19 Recordings has also signed fourth-place-finisher, rocker Allison Iraheta, and that her debut album will be licensed to Jive Records, like Allen’s forthcoming disc. And just like the the albums from her two fellow alums, Iraheta’s is anticipated for a fall release. (Talk about an Idol-rific autumn!)

All week long, Idol fan sites like mjsbigblog were abuzz with rumors of Iraheta’s signing. The 17-year-old singer sounds like she’s barely processing the news herself: …I think Im still in shock that this is happening — getting to record my first album and this whole awesome experience is a dream come true! Allison said in a statement released to EW by 19 Recordings.

Notably absent from the recent spate of deal-making? Thatd be polarizing third-place finisher, Danny Gokey. Says a rep at 19: “There nothing to report just yet.”

Thanks for the nod, guys! And Allison fanboy, Michael Slezak, could not be happier!

  1. there’s nothing to report on Gokey, and there will be nothing to report, at least from 19. They always go in order of succession in their signing annoucements.
Sorry Danny fans. (any Elliott fans will remember waiting around Season 5).

  2. Woo Hoo!!! Congratulations Allison. It’s on!! She’s being treated the same as Kris and Adam. She has an amazing creative team that has already been assembled, and has had numerous meetings with her team and some writers and producers!! I love that some of the possible writers are not the usual ones that seem to be part of the Idol “pool”!! She’s already “working it” and has been to several social Hollywood functions and making contacts.

Here comes the next Daughtry imo. Jive is very excited and has been planning for her for a long time according to people on her boards!

  3. I’m really happy for her!!
I’m not sure about Jive for Kris, but I believe for Allison it’s the perfect place! And I’m glad her album is coming in the fall too… wow, this year is really full of idol’s music. I wonder how it will all work out… with singles and that.
Good luck Allison! Here’s crossing my fingers for some pop/rock.

    ETA: Yay for MJ’s nod!

  4. Woo Hoo! GOOOO Allison!!

I think Danny fans will be waiting a long time for news. I think he’ll go the way of Phil Stacey and get a Christian record deal once he’s released from 19E in August.

  5. OMG. I am so happy about this. I WILL buy her album – she’s made me a loyal fan! I just love her voice.

I can’t believe how happy I am about it – I usually don’t get this happy about music!

  6. Congratulations to Allison! Jive is the perfect label for her.

thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s nothing to report on Gokey, and there will be nothing to report, at least from 19.

Yes, it’s not looking good for poor Gokey. And some people still continue to think that he was TCO of the season. He was shield.

  7. Great, great news! My perfect triumvirate (Kris, Allison, Adam) gets signed. Yay!

  8. I don’t know if I am happier for Allison or Slezak!!!

    Congrats Lava Girl…you deserve it.

  9. It never rains but it pours, talk about a news day.
Congratulations Allison!!! Best of luck to you sweetie. Best of everything.

  10. Good for Allison!

How long did it take for Elliot to sign? He’s on his second album now, right? I started watching in season 7, so I’m not up on what went on before that.

Also, I’m sure this has been addressed, so please forgive my asking, but what is the difference between the Jive and RCA? I know they are different branches, but beyond that, ?

  11. Rock on Lava Girl! It’s a happy week in Idol-land for me! Yay for AAK! I hope they don’t pull a KLC on her, though. I can’t imagine that they would.

Oh, and congrats for the shout out, MJ!

  12. Well there it is! So damn excited for her. I expect great things from Allison, she’s got it all!

I have no doubt that Danny will be signed, I just dont think it will be by 19.

I hope Matt and Anoop, especially Anoop land some place too.

    Go Kradison! The triumvirate!

  13. How long did it take for Elliot to sign? Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s on his second album now, right?

Elliott created his own label. I seem to recall the annoucements came out in February the following year (S5 was 2006 and the announcement came in 2007). Daughtry’s annoucement came out in June and Kellie’s in July of 2006 (she announced hers when she was on the View).

And yes, he is on his second album (and his label released Ruben’s record this year too).

  14. SO happy for her! If her album is produced well, it will be excellent.

I hope there isn’t anything to report about Gokey, but wonder if there is any chance he goes country? I think he was twittering about being in Nashville for meetings . . .

  15. i never got the differance between Jive and RCA.Its complicated lol.

I think Slezak is getting happy drunk tonight. He has to do the biggest allison fanboy lol.I love how he supports her.I bet he even has her phone on speed-dial lol.ALLISON’S LABEL OUT IN THE FALL!! I can get my Kris/Allison/Adam album together. This makes me happy.

  16. Jive has done really well for Jordin and David A, they actually do a good job promoting their artists and not giving up on them. I think that Alison and Kris will thrive there. RCA seems to be hit-or-miss, and jumps ship pretty quickly.

  17. Everytime I read or hear Allison’s name I get that little jingle in my head that Slezak likes to play at the end of his vids (ALLLLis-son…ALLLIISON!! Surprise!!) LOL too cute. :clap_tb:
Anyway, congrats to Allison!! it was only a matter of time, and it seems like she is in good hands.
Sorry about Danny. At the beginning there he really did seem like a lock for a record deal with 19..
    Still hopeful about Matt… :thumbup_tb:

  18. I don’t know about Allison being the next Daughtry (I don’t see that happening for anyone from this season), but I’m excited for her and wish her the best.

As for Danny, I won’t be surprised if 19R passes on him but I do think he’ll get a recording deal (and not necessarily with a Christian label). I don’t think Danny’s fans have any reason to hang their heads. He might not ever reach “superstar” status, but I think he’ll be fine.

How long did it take for Elliot to sign?

I don’t remember hearing about Elliott’s indie deal until late summer (but I could be wrong).

  19. 19 had def passed on Gokey. This reminds me of S5 when they signed Chris and Pickler but passed on #3 Elliott. None of the rest will be able to negotiate any deals until 19 is done with them. Sometime around the end of August is the date I think. But they can’t release albums until the signed ones are done. So no music until Spring, 10. Brooke and Micheal Johns are just getting albums out for example.

19 seems to hate third place finishers. As far as I know they’ve never signed one while Allison will be the second #4 that got a deal. Poor Danny. He spent the season being hated by some because he was “overly pimped” while the entire time they were exploiting his back story and then using him as a bogey man to prop up ratings and rally fans of Adam. I’m hoping Danny is smart and hooks up with Chris Sligh and goes the Christian route. That seems like the best place for him.

  20. Matt needs to a record deal.He just has to have one. He’s talented and there is a spark there if someone works with him.I just want something for him.The dude was treated poorly and didnt complain.

Does Scotty still think 19/RCA is picking him up? LOL

Sarver should easy to work with.He doesnt need anyone to make him songs.
Doesnt he brag that he wrote like 589 songs or something?

I dont mind if Gokey gets signed or not.As long as he doesnt expect me to believe its for his “foundation”and makes me listen to it lol.

  21. Slezak is such a fanboy. Hee I can’t say I blame him. :) I’m really excited for Allison. I won’t make any wild predictions but I think she has a chance at being a real breakout star and I’m anxious to see what the Allison and the label comes up with for material. :)

  22. Archie and Jordin went with Jive which is a smaller division that caters to a younger audience but has a great reputation. RCA is bigger and is home to Cook, Daughtry, Kelly. They are both arms of the same company under Barry Weiss who is overseeing all the Idols. RCA and Jive did some positive and some negative things for Cook and Archie. The most important thing will be the end product and who within their division that gets assigned to them (A&R people)

Anyway, both are major labels and such good news for them. 6 months ago it was only a dream.

  23. I think this will be it for the 19R signings for season eight. I’ll be very surprised if they sign anyone else this season.

  24. Great, if unsurprising news for Allison. It sounds like they have a really strong team in place for her.

Adam and Kris (David Hodges, Claude Kelly) already have been hooked up with some writing collaborators with really strong credentials — hopefully Allison can get the same.

  25. I will have 3 Idol albums to buy this Fall! This was a no-brainer to sign Allison, and I’m glad it happened quickly.

  26. Yay, so happy for Allison! :clap_tb: :clap_tb: :clap_tb:

    He was shield.

Kirsten, can you explain “shield”? I’m having a remedial day. Thanks.

  27. Jive is a great place for Allison. This is the album I want to hear most. Go Allison! :clap_tb: :drunk_tb:

  28. So happy that The Rocker has been signed! I can’t wait to hear her album. I think she has a great chance of being a huge success. She is young, though, and so I hope she has good people surrounding her and looking after her interests.

I can’t wait for all three albums!

  29. Not surprised about any of the signings so far. I’ve seen those coming. Danny will have to work extra hard and shop around for other labels to get a deal, because 19E passed him up, it seems.

Does Scotty still think 19/RCA is picking him up? LOL

No, but he sure is releasing an EP on his own independent label in July before anyone else! LOL Speaking of which, maybe I should contact mj about details of this since she does a good job on updating on Idols’ careers.

  30. Do I understand correctly that all three will be managed by 19 as well as going with RCA & Jive for their record production? I think the first place finisher has to be managed by 19 but the others could have chosen a different management company to separate that part out from the record deal (Jive or RCA/19/Sony). I don’t actually think it hurts to separate those things so that someone other than just 19 is watching out for you. I think some of the Idols have split off from the 19 management arm but still have record deals?

  31. I’m thrilled for Allison, I think she’s great and I would buy her music!!! I hope Michael Sleazak used non-permanent Iraheta Red on his hair…although it does suit him quite well, anyway!

Now Anoop needs to get a recording contract for his Pop R&B!!!
I can’t wait to buy that and go to his concerts!!!

  32. Amazing news! Couldn’t be more perfect.

May Allison+Adam+Kris have long, prosper and successful careers! This is a very, very karmic situation :)

  33. I’M SO EXCITED! My top 3 are all signed! Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

Congrats, Allison! I can’t wait to get your album!

    *does a happy dance*

  34. Kirsten, can you explain à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“shieldà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ?

It’s just a knollish term. Somebody who is set up to take the heat, especially from a chosen one. “Oh, yes, TCO is something-or-other, but they aren’t as extreme as that other person”. For instance, some think that last year Carly was a shield for Archuleta. Sure, Archuleta had won a singing contest and been on TV, but he’d never had a 2 million dollar recording contract, so he’s a relative amature. Danny was OTT pimped and many people didn’t think he deserved it, so he took a lot of the pimping heat. I think he was used. Well, they are used, but some are more badly used than others.

I think if TPTB were really so in love with Danny that they would do anything to get him the win (vocal master class, A for effort, never been pitchy, better than that guy you dueted with, filling arenas, inspiration to us all, you need to be in the final), they will sign him. I don’t think they ever seriously wanted Gokey to win.

But, I won’t get into who I think he was a shield for. This is a congratulation for Allison thread with a side of “19 has no signing news about Gokey” thread.

  35. I think the first place finisher has to be managed by 19 but the others could have chosen a different management company to separate that part out from the record deal (Jive or RCA/19/Sony).

No, they don’t. 19 Management will sign whoever they want. They let Taylor Hicks go elsewhere, and “parted ways” with Jordin Sparks after a year. They also signed both Chris Daughtry and Kellie Pickler in season 5, who neither won nor came in 2nd place.

So, if they would rather manage Allison and Adam, then I’m sure those are the two they’ll manage. And if they want to manage Kris too, I’m sure they won’t have an issue with managing all 3.

  36. cmom – someone early today teased Adam fans that we’d be very happy with Adam’s management, but wouldn’t tell us more. I agree and hope that all 3 have different management companies. That would be wise.

In Rolling Stone, Adam says that he, Allison and Kris are very very close – 2 brothers and a sister. They must really be celebrating tonight. Must be nice to have each other to celebrate with together. Plus, they will be busy between tours traveling back and forth to NY and LA, but maybe they’ll have some travel mates now. The three are probably sitting there tonight in disbelief at their good fortune.

  37. I don’t think any of the Idols have to sign with 19 management anymore, do they?

  38. Oh happy day!!! Oh happy day!!! This is sooo exciting! I’m sooo glad Allison got signed.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢M SO EXCITED! My top 3 are all signed! Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy

    ME TOO!!! YAY! :clap_tb:

  39. Allison will have Theresa LaBrabara-White as her A&R–one of the best A&R’s

  40. I remember the last time in s5 when four/three people got signed.I wasnt very happy. They ignored Taylor that year and failed to help him with the album.I dont like the guy and i found him weird. But they never showed him respect.
They only cared about Kelly,Chris and barely Kat.I guess that was RCA.Jive
might be differant and could manage two/three unlike RCA.

I can see the same thing happening this year.

  41. BTW, I just have to say I like the way MJ and Michael Slezak work alongside each other. They’re kind of like Kradam………two distinct personalities who aren’t threatened by the other’s success. Very cool.

  42. Cay-I hope your right about the Kris/Adam/Allison label celebration.I suppose
there all drinking soda floats or in Kradam’s case something strong to congrat each other.

  43. Oh so we don’t know yet about the management chosen. I know that Archuleta chose Azoff and I think that it was a good choice since Cook was to be managed by 19. I do know that a management company has to want to take you on so sometimes the choices are limited (but not for these three season 8 people – I would think that all the management companies would jump for them especially since they have record deals.

  44. I remember the last time in s5 when four/three people got signed.I wasnt very happy. They ignored Taylor that year and failed to help him with the album.

I really hope they don’t pull a “Taylor” with Kris. I hope he will get the support that he’s due as the winner.

  45. Considering the limited talent field out in the market right now for under 18 female singers I am chomping at the bit to hear what Allison will offer us. Just hope her management team understands that Allison isn’t “pageantry” and won’t fit well in the “Disney (boy I wish there was another word for this shtick) type of genre. She is the farthest thing from bubble-gum pop and it would suck big time to watch her try and smile through that kind of schlock.

Even though she is only 17 she shouldn’t be marketed that way. Her voice is way to mature for that and her persona is a lot grittier and earthy…even though she is the “cutest” little musical elf I have ever seen (and that’s a compliment not derogatory).

    Is summer over with, yet?

  46. Jive now has Jordin, Archie, Kris and Allison. RCA has Cook, Daughtry, Adam, Kelly.

At a certain point, Idol overload will hit the radio charts. And Allison is getting A treatment not the shabby way they treated Kristie Lee Cook last year. So they’re grooming her to do very well. S5 which had four signings basically saw Pickler and Daughtry given premium position in dropping albums. Taylor and Kat got the left overs.

I’m looking forward to seeing who gets the primo position in the fall – that’s the week before Black Friday in November. It should be Kris “our winner” but let’s see how it shakes out.

  47. Kris! Adam! Allison!

It’s a happy week in Idol land. Now waiting for Matt G, and Idol S8 will be complete for me. :)

  48. Kirsten, that’s the jist of what I thought you were saying but wanted to be sure (and despite being dense sometimes on Idol stuff, I am quite confident I know who he was the shield for..:) So, so happy for all 3 of the signees this week!

And oh yeah, Go Lakers! :jittery_tb:

  49. I think Allison will be disney-fied.If they can disney-fi Jordin Sparks who is the OPPOSITE of disney then they can do that to Allison.I feel like Jive is lost when
it comes to managing young idols.Between Jordin going on tour with the Jonas brothers and Archie being on 2 disney shows(another one coming) and doing duets with miley and going on tour with demi..I feel bad for them.

THANK god Kris is old enough to be more disney-fied.

How can we find out there managers? Is there a way to do that? This confuses me.

  50. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m looking forward to seeing who gets the primo position in the fall – thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the week before Black Friday in November. It should be Kris à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“our winnerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ but letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s see how it shakes out.

I think there were twitters stating that Kris is already in the studios, plus he got the ITunes pass so that wouldn’t surprise me if he got the Nov. holiday treatment. I’m more curious to see who releases an album first between Allison and Adam and will they do a duet for their debut albums.

I would like to see the press release about Allison to see what is said about her by Simon and Weis compared to what was said about Kris and Adam.

  51. I remember the last time in s5 when four/three people got signed.I wasnt very happy. They ignored Taylor that year and failed to help him with the album.

Are you worried they will put both Allison and Adam over Kris?

  52. Just hope her management team understands that Allison isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“pageantryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t fit well in the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Disney (boy I wish there was another word for this shtick) type of genre.

In a wierd way I’m not worried about that with her. She has a quality to her voice that just sort of automatically roughs up anything she’s singing, I think. Kinda like Since U Been Gone (and no I’m not saying she’s as good as Kelly yet). But if Hillary Duff would have sung SUBG it still would have been a catchy song, but it definitely would have sounded Disney as you say. With Kelly, it was a girl empowerment anthem.

Having 19 manage all 3 of them could get dicey. I wonder if Fuller is taking anyone on personally this year?

  53. Thanks Kirsten , Cay, and phoenixml for the info!

“Jive has done really well for Jordin and David A, they actually do a good job promoting their artists and not giving up on them. I think that Alison and Kris will thrive there.

    Yay for Kris and Allison!!

“RCA seems to be hit-or-miss, and jumps ship pretty quickly.”

I really hope this doesn’t happen to Adam!

  54. in a way yes unique. And in a way no.Kris won with no promotion from the judges.Maybe he will get by without the label wanting to promote him? I
highly doubt that though.I do smell alittle Taylor treatment though.

Fuller..i thought he liked Adam? i think Fuller would want to promote Adam right? but didnt Kris say he was looking forward to working with Simon Fuller?

  55. It’s possible Fuller will take on all three. Although I’m guessing Adam goes with different management. 19M are supposed to take a huge share of the income from the Idols they manage. Adam seems too smart to let that happen to him.

  56. Yippee!!! No surprise, sure, but I am rediculously happy for my top 3. I know Alli and Adam were in rehearsals today- anyone know where Kris is? They should totally celebrate together. All three of them depended on the others to get them where they are today, and they totally deserve it.

  57. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s possible Fuller will take on all three. Although Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m guessing Adam goes with different management. 19M are supposed to take a huge share of the income from the Idols they manage. Adam seems too smart to let that happen to him.

Lots of Idols get signed to 19M, but Fuller has only personally managed 3… Daughtry, Carrie and Cook. So getting picked up personally by Fuller is a big sign that they are behind someone. That will tell us a lot right there.

ETA: I’m not sure if Fuller was Kelly’s manager too before she broke north.

  58. Congrats Allison! I think Matt has a chance of being signed to a major label, he has a great recording voice, but I think that will be the end of major signings for season 8 contestants.

  59. S5 which had four signings basically saw Pickler and Daughtry given premium position in dropping albums. Taylor and Kat got the left overs.

I don’t know about Kat, but Taylor chose to wait until after the tour to start working on his album while Daughtry and Pickler worked on their albums all summer long. In this instance, I don’t think the timing of Taylor’s album release was about giving preferential treatment to Daughtry or Pickler. If he had worked on his album during the tour, it might have been ready in time to take advantage of Black Friday sales.

  60. who is simon fuller managing right now out of this season’s contestants? I don’t think they announced in Adam’s press release who was managing him.

  61. The three are probably sitting there tonight in disbelief at their good fortune.

If anyone is in disbelief of their good fortune, it should be SonyBMG. They very well could have three superstars on their hands here.

Allison, Adam, and Kris’ record deals had nothing to do with fortune. They were the three most talented this season and are the ones who deserve to get signed, for sure. I’m pretty sure that signing anyone else before these three would cross into criminal territory.

  62. If they can disney-fi Jordin Sparks who is the OPPOSITE of disney then they can do that to Allison.

LOL, since when was Jordin the opposite of Disney? She even fucking sang a Disney song ON THE SHOW. lmao.

  63. I am beyond thrilled for Allison (and for me!) Can’t wait to hear what kind of CD she puts out.

    I hope they donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t pull a KLC on her, though. I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t imagine that they would.

I can’t see that happening. With no disrespect to KLC (IMO) Allison has more talent in her right pinky finger than KLC possesses in her entire body. Jive also has a great reputation of knowing how to market their artists. Arista on the other hand … not so much.

  64. As exciting as the last few months have been, I’m really looking forward to what is next,” says Kris Allen. “I’m very grateful to be working with Simon Fuller and his team at 19 Entertainment along with Barry Weiss and Jive Records on my debut album.

Does that mean Fuller is taking on Kris? I dont even know Simon Fuller as a
manager.Isnt he the one who created idol?

  65. Go Allison! This girl is awesome. I think she will be the breakout star of season 8.

As for management, Archie signed with Azoff in October. And given that the Season 8 Idols are still tied to Idol/19 for the AI Summer Tour, I don’t think we’ll be seeing any change in management news anytime soon.

ETA: I pulled this out of Archie new management article because it gives some insight: “19 Entertainment gets first dibs on Idol finalists for management, but the company apparently passed on Archuleta, while signing winner David Cook (a 19 representative declined to comment). Still, Archuleta remains on the 19 Recordings roster, and the company is intimately involved in overseeing his first album, which is due out Nov. 11. David Cook’s debut will drop a week later.”

  66. IIRC, all the finalists are under 19’s management arm through the tour. It’s usually in the Fall that we hear one way or another whether they are staying with 19M or moving on to outside management. Carrie, Daughtry, and Cook all remained with 19M to be managed by Simon Fuller. Jordin initially stayed under 19M’s wing but parted ways in late 2008 I believe. Kelly, Clay, and Fantasia also eventually broke with 19M. Maybe Ruben too? I think he’s still with 19M at this point, but I don’t think he was ever one of Fuller’s personal pet projects.

Archie’s deal with Azoff was announced in the beginning of October. I don’t remember the specific timelines from the earlier seasons, but I’m pretty sure the final management contracts have never been in place (or at least have not been announced) until after the tour wraps in August.

ETA: What I meant to post in the first place: Huzzah for Allison! I’m very much looking forward to see what they do with this girl. She intrigues me.

  67. YES! GO KRALLISON!!! Two albums from Season 8 that I will for sure be picking up! :)

  68. From my perspective, the energy they put into managing the artists depends on how much the artists put in as well. If Kradison all work hard while on tour to meet the deadline, 19 would be happy to promote them. I think with Taylor choosing to record after the tour, the management didn’t like it that much because I’m thinking they wanted to see more effort from him. Same with Kat- I remember that there was something about her losing her voice but then she was photographed lounging around in the pool (while also missing part of the tour) and I’m sure 19 was not happy with the negative publicity.

I doubt 19 would is going to sign anyone else though unless they really do decide to take on Danny?

  69. I wonder if Fuller is taking anyone on personally this year?

Ditto. Didn’t he say last year that he’s rather particular about who he choses to personally manage? It will definitely be interesting to find out ….

  70. The problem for Allison is that Jive makes good singles but horrible albums. It’s not just who Fuller wants. It’s who wants Fuller. Rumors are they he takes 50% of their income.

Daughtry and Carrie supposedly make less $ than you’d expect because of their deals. Could be a rumor but that’s the rumor.

  71. I don’t think it’s that big of a deal if Fuller decides to personally manage anyone. It’s not he had anything to really do with those 3’s success. It was their music that caused them to be big and nothing that I really see with any type of promotion or anything.. well.. other them have them appear on AI every chance they get or having them sing the goodbye song for Idol.

  72. Didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t he say last year that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s rather particular about who he choses to personally manage?

Yes, he talked about it in this interview with Billboard just last month actually.

How about the relationship between your management company, 19 Entertainment, and the show’s contestants. How has that evolved?

Contractually we have options on all of the contestants. That’s always been the case. But at this point, it doesn’t mean I will always option those rights. It has to feel right to me. I have to feel there is a relationship there. We will always have the winner signed to 19, so we’ll have the recording rights. But as for the management, that is much more of a human element. I feel more emotional about these things now than I ever did before. I want everyone to be focused and excited. I haven’t quite got it in me to push water uphill anymore.

  73. Is that why Fuller signed Blake Lewis? He’s had his hits and misses like everyone. But he does guarantee his clients primo placement on the biggest show on TV. And a good shot at the boot song too.

  74. Like I said it was only a matter of time…congratulations to her I wish her and Adam the best…I’m not too worried, maybe a little more for her than Adam because she is younger but I think she has great taste in music and knows what fits her style and voice…as long as she doesn’t let herself be manipulated then all is well…can’t wait for this fall.

  75. Good music doesn’t always make for sales. Good management and company backing gets you the all important radio play (payola still exist, it just has a different name). Talent, great songs, good management and record co support, successful touring and lots of luck make for good sales IMO. We hope these three get all the support they deserve and need.

  76. Matt needs toget a record deal.He just has to have one.Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s talented and there is a spark there if someone works with him.I just want something for him.The dude was treated poorly and didnt complain.

Awww. Thanks for saying that. I know you guys here did not like some of his live performances, but Matt proved on his Ellen appearance that amazing talent he has. If he singing the right song and the nerves are out the door he is amazing.
He is sooo talented, great current voice and mad piano skills. Please someone out there give Matty G a chance!
He is the only one left worth it… It would be so sad to see Matt end up nowhere after the tour.

Congrats to Allison! She deserves it so much. She will be a huge success.

  77. Well, 19M manages a bunch of idols. Most of those people are assigned a manager that runs their career and reports to Fuller. Only a few have their career shots personally called by Fuller. That’s what I’m talking about. Carrie, Daughtry and Cook were the 3 that got it, and each got massive exposure from idol. Carrie is always on there, Daughtry second single was the freaking boot song, and Cook made multiple appearances this year. Plus, Daughtry got his debut song placed on a TV sow, Carrie got primo exposure in the Country world for her debut… much better than Pickler. It means something.

Now the percentage 19 takes.. LOL… I cant speak to that. I would not be surprised if it was half though.

  78. Fuller did not personally manage Blake. He was signed with 19M yes, but his manager with was Roger Widynowski, who had just come over from RCA.

And in this economic and music industry climate, I think it’s smart to be selective about who you manage. You have to hedge your bets. Who knows? He might have started becoming more selective after Blake.

  79. I’m so happy to hear it confirmed!

Of course she’s signed, she has tons and tons of potential.

Gawd… my dream top 3 of AI8 all signed!!!!!! I don’t think anybody else is going to have a music contract, well maybe Gokey but with a Christian label.

Congrats LavaGirl (and Kris and Adam).

  80. Oh boy. Looks like I’m buying 3 albums this fall now. Congrats to Allison. SO glad to hear she was signed quickly. That girl has the talent.

  81. Now the percentage 19 takes.. LOLà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ I cant speak to that. I would not be surprise if it was half though.

    HALF???!!!!! :shock_tb:

  82. Just because Kris said in the press release he looks forward to working with Simon Fuller and 19 it doesn’t necessarily mean Fuller will personally manage him. Everyone that’s managed by 19 would have to work with him in some capacity even if it’s not on a complete one on one basis. At some point last year I remember some article about Simon coming out and it mentioned that he oversaw the careers of Carrie, Daughtry and DC. At the time I thought it was odd Jordin wasn’t mentioned because she was definitely with 19 at the time.

I have records saved of some HDD blurbs that specifically mentioned managers for Idols. Vibe Raters for Jordin, Blake, David:

Top 10 single on iTunes after one day. Multiple TV appearances mid November. Video filming now; impacting end of October. Tons of press on deck, including Blender and RS, leading up to CD release on 11/18. Mgmt: Simon Fuller and Iain Pirie/19 Ent.

DC lists Simon Fuller but not Jordin and Blake. Anyway I’m betting on Adam being the pet project this year.

  83. I think they signed Kellie and Daughtry because they saw something in them, and they turned out to be right, they’re both doing well (Daughtry better of course). I never took it as a diss to Taylor or Kat, since I seem to recall that they had reasons why their cds came out later. They weren’t ready.

DA’s came out before DC’s last fall too. It doesn’t always go in order.

Congratulations to Allison, I’m so excited for her. Adam, Allison, and Kris were the standouts this year to me, and it’s exciting that they signed all 3 so quickly. Sounds like they snapped Allison right up. I also think her voice is too rich, full, and mature to make her do teen stuff but anything is possible.

  84. Carrie is always on there, Daughtry second single was the freaking boot song, and Cook made multiple appearances this year. Plus, Daughtry got his debut song placed on a TV sow, Carrie got primo exposure in the Country world for her debutà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ much better than Pickler. It means something.

Well, to be fair many idols get the show exposure and they’re not managed by Fuller. Cook was on idol as many times as Jordin was last year. Jordin also got to debut her single there this year. Fuller’s involvement goes beyond idol.
I think we’ll only know where they stand in terms of management in a couple of months. If i could guess I’d say Fuller was probably more interested in Adam than the other two… but we’ll see.
I think they can all find good management that is not 19M.

  85. 50%??? That’s basically slavery.

there were always rumors the Idol deal was horrible….

Fuller will personally oversee Adam for sure, since they think they can make the most $$$ from him.

  86. For me, it’s all about the performance. Once I see someone live, I know whether it is worth it to go to any other concert of theirs. I am looking forward to Allison live because I bet she is great! She won’t even have to work the crowd – just do her thing – sing and the crowd will love her. It will be fun to see them all on the Idol tour. Unfortunately, some Idols just can’t carry off a full concert and hold the attention of the crowd. Some are just born to be on stage and others are meant to be writing songs, Broadway, and maybe very small clubs.

  87. Simon Fuller is the President of 19 Entertainment right? 19R(ecordings) and 19M(anagement) are entities under the 19E umbrella, so yeah – like Trina said, Kris saying he’s looking forward to working with Simon Fuller doesn’t mean SF is managing him. As President of 19E, SF would have input on what goes on with the people who are signed to 19R, regardless of whether 19M manages the artist.

I don’t know who 19M will “pick” this year, but whoever it is will surely have more promo opportunities on AI the television show next spring.

  88. I also believe Adam will be the top priority. They didn’t make sure he got the cover of EW (DURING the competition even!) and Rolling Stone for nothing….

I never liked him during the show, but I’m starting to feel kind of bad for Danny Gokey. I think they did kind of use him as a “shield.” The over-the-top praise made him think he was going to be selling out stadiums. And then he goes out at 3rd and no one has an issue with it (Paula? Kara?)? It’s not right to mess with someone’s head like that. Oh well, I do think he should pursue a Christian label, where he could do just fine.

  89. Congrats to Allison!!

I can’t believe they actually signed the 3 most talented people this year. Has that ever happened before? They passed on Jason and Brooke last year, Melinda the year before, and Elliott S5, so I actually was not too hopeful about Allison’s chances, given that track record. Maybe they are capable of learning from their mistakes!

I am worried about Kris and Allison being signed to Jive instead of RCA though. While they do support their artists in some ways, the albums that come from Jive artists tend to sound like cookie-cutter, cheaply produced pop albums to me. At least the albums from RCA artists sound like they pay attention to each artist’s individual style. Hopefully Kris and Allison each have enough stubborn determination to make something close to the album they want to make. They do both seem to have a strong sense of who they are as artists, and they both stuck to that style on AI. That’s half the battle right there.

I want everyone to be focused and excited. I havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t quite got it in me to push water uphill anymore.

That tends to make me think that the problem with Taylor had more to do with his own personality, and refusal to work to work on his album during the tour, rather than with 19 preferring Daughtry. At least I hope so, for Kris’ sake.

  90. Roger Widynowski is a publicist (well, I’m not sure he personally handles PR for anyone anymore, but he is the head of publicity at 19E now, after years at RCA) – he did not manage Blake or any of the Idols signed to 19M.

Someone industrious should put together a primer on Idol contracts and representation – it would get a gazillion pageviews as each and every season wraps.

A little more directly on-topic, it’s interesting to me that we haven’t heard much about Allison’s family in regards to these contract negotiations. Seems like with Diana, Jordin, and Archie there was a lot of delay and rumors of BTS drama surrounding the recording and management contracts. Allison’s deal seems to have been sealed without a hitch. Hope that lack of chatter bodes well for her – it will be nice to have a teen come out of Idol without the burden of stage-parent rumors and innuendo.

  91. We have no idea what the percentages are. It’s all very hush hush. And I also think that every artist’s contract is different.

If Fuller decides to manage Allison, well, she can and will (probably) thank him as much as Carrie thanks Fuller for every single industry award she has won since winning Idol. Cook also got SNL to debut his single – in addition to the Idol promotion. We’ll just have to wait and see, but she should definitely consider it, if he decides to manage her.

  92. Fuller will personally oversee Adam for sure, since they think they can make the most $$$ from him.

    Who said that and where?

If 19 is smart, they’ll help each of them find great managers (or place them with great managers, not sure how it works). All three of Kris, Adam, and Allison could be major stars. The great thing about these three is that they can each find their own niche. It’s really a great scenario for all involved. These young people get awesome careers, and 19/SonyBMG get tons of money!

  93. I think Allison is a great fit for Jive – they can easily mold her into the next Avril Lavigne or Pink. The one I’m more curious about is Kris. I can’t see them letting him make a record that sounds like what he did on Idol. Jive doesn’t have big acoustic artists on its roster. I really think they will try and make him more like Nick Lachey…which could be risky for him given what is currently popular in Top 40 today…we shall see!

  94. From my perspective, the energy they put into managing the artists depends on how much the artists put in as well. If Kradison all work hard while on tour to meet the deadline, 19 would be happy to promote them.

I believe this is what Simon Fuller is saying in the qoute about being too old to push water up a hill. People can say that 19 didn’t want to deal with Taylor, but his attitude and refusal to record the album whille on tour was a major problem, as well as Kat putting out an album that didn’t fit her voice or style.

i don’t think that TPTB will ignore any of these three, all three have proven that they can attract fans, so why not give all three the best shot possible to find an audience.

  95. I think they can all find good management that is not 19M.

I absolutely agree. For the first time ever, I’m really stoked about the top 4 (Gokey notwithstanding). I think Kris, Adam & Allison all have the potential to be major break out artists.

  96. If it were me, I would want my management separate from my record deal so I was sure someone was looking out for my best interests and not one hand feeding the other hand. However, they are all lucky to have any record deal and any good management company behind them and looking out for them and their long-term future – not just their “Idol” future and what they can do for the Idol franchise. We hear Cook and Archuleta and now Kris and Adam say over and over that they are in it for a long-term music career in whatever direction that takes them and that means people in the background planning not just for the current $$$ but for the daily bread-and-butter income for life.

  97. Good news for music fans, isn’t it! You know, early on, it seemed obvious to me that the really interesting music ideas were mostly coming from Kris, Adam and Allison. And this was pretty much what I heard from everyone in my circle of musically inclined friends. People favored different ones, and even favored some other idol voices, but all, consistently thought these three were the real talents of the season, regardless of their personal tastes. Doesn’t surprise me that my lot was in agreement, but it does surprise me that that’s what the Idol makers think, and pretty close to what the Idol watchers as a whole think. I’m not used to being in sync, but I like it.

Can’t wait to hear the albums, and I wish there was a way to hear them live in the near future, other than the Idol tour. I went to one once, and I’ll never do that again! Maybe, with the albums coming out near each other, and them being friends and all, they’ll break protocol and schedule some joint appearances. By then, though, they may be good and sick of each other, too, Ha!

  98. Daughtry said that he was busy writing and recording while everyone else on the Idol tour went out partying every night. It looks like it paid off. They have to stay focused and serious.

I had heard that Taylor was difficult to work with, but is it really true? Everyone says that RCA never put any effort into his promotion, but didn’t they push for a 300K sales week that first week, and try to get airplay? Hicks needed more of a radio presence than just adult contemporary stations. He is probably the greatest example of where the Idol fanbase left quickly; great for a novelty or a good cheese show, but his lack of radio support ultimately made his album fizzle.
McPhee had potential, but they screwed her up with direction. I also think she was hurt by skipping all those AI tour dates early on…. AI fans were not impressed.

Didn’t Fuller manage Fantasia early on? I’m sure she was quite difficult.

  99. Why do i feel like Kris already wrote stuff already? Didnt he even write songs of his own? I wouldnt be surprised.Allison/Kris/Adam were the most driven
and focused ones this season on every level.I feel like Danny cares more about taking over the world then making a album.does anyone else notice that?

  100. I read that one of Taylor’s problems may have been that he waited until after the AI tour to start working on his album.

Kris evidently isn’t going to have that problem, since there have been twitters (tweets? – I never know what to call these) about him already being in the studio working with David Hodges and Claude Kelly. Both of these guys have been quite positive about working with Kris, too.

“In the studio with the American Idol, Kris Allen.this guy is effin awesome!”
“omg, these r the days i live for, action-packed days w/ great artists and good music. Kris Allen is a pro and this song is cool. Woot!”
*so Kris is the 4th American Idol i’ve worked with, and hes the 4th to be INCREDIBLE> dude can really sing. u guys will likey :)”

    http://twitter.com/claudekelly

“Steven and I wrote with kris Allen today. Good times. He and his wife are good people. Steven on the other hand is an idiot.” 12:49 AM Jun 7th from Twitterrific

    http://twitter.com/hodgesmusic

Both Hodges and Kelly have some very solid song writing credits to their name.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claude_Kelly

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Hodges

So someone — either Kris himself and/or the people at 19, are hooking him up already. That doesn’t suggest to me that they are going to push him aside in favor of Adam and/or Allison.

  101. sooo happy for allison! she and kris made me get addicted to the show this AI season. and cant wait for their albums!!! unlike last year, when i was waiting endlessly and almost in a vacuum for the davids albums to come out, this year i can happily hang out in mjs blog :clap_tb:

    happy happy hump day everyone!

  102. Tatiana:

I wouldn’t worry too much aout Kris. It doesn’t sound like he is going to let the record label turn him into anything he’s uncomfortable with as a musician.

(this is from an ew.com article that’s currently online)

On being his own artist in the, eh-hem, often controlling recording industry
“I am really laid back and kind of go-with-the-flow, but I will never do anything that I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe in. So if thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a song that theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re trying to shoot at me and Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m like, ehhhh, then it probably wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t happen. I think it would just be uncomfortable. You canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t do something that you donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t feel good about.”

People underestimated Kris during AI. He stuck to his guns then and won. They’d be silly to underestimate him again.

And as I said above, he’s already writing with songwriters who have very strong cred in a variety of musical styles. So so far, anyway, it all seems good!

  103. Part of the fun for me in watching AI over the past few years is trying to predict long term success for the my favorites. I totally got it right for Carrie Underwood and Chris Daughtry but have been disappointed with the outcome for 2 super-talented vocalists in Paris Bennett and especially Melinda Doolittle. The jury is still out regarding long term success for my next superstar pick of David Cook but I can say that the vibe at the concert I attended in Va Beach confirms my impression that he has the potential to achieve the same level of fame/stardom as Kelly, Chris and Carrie. He is, however, barely a year post AI, and I think it is too early to predict the ultimate outcome in this crazy business. Gratefully, I have only become a fantard once (for Cook) in my 5 years of watching Idol. I may be totally unobjective when it comes to Cook, but regarding all the other AI contestents, I truly think Allison may exceed Kelly and Carrie. IMHO, she has one of the most compelling voices, most instinctive vocal nuances, great tone, expressive phrasing etc, etc, ever to be seen on the Idol stage. While her inherent vocal talent may not exceed the great Melinda Doolittle, she is a much more compelling stage presence and truly fits into the modern music scene. I really enjoyed Kris and think he has a career in music, but I still think Allison is the great “singer” from this group while Adam is the “celebrity, and will possibly go the way of Clay Aiken long term. I could also be full of shit. Go Allison!

  104. I think Allison is a great fit for Jive – they can easily mold her into the next Avril Lavigne or Pink.

I really think they will try and make him more like Nick Lacheyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

That’s my problem with Jive- I’d rather see Kris and Allison be Kris and Allison, instead of being pushed into the mold of some other pop star, especially watered down stuff like Nick Lachey.

  105. Cathy, I agree. I’m not super-thrilled with what Jive has done with Archie. Being a fan its frustrating to see how many great songs he recorded that they wouldn’t put on the album. They don’t seem to think outside the box…

  106. I’m so happy for Allison! The Kradison team rules again. She is so talented and I think the record company and management know that and will help her to be the star she can be. It sounds like 19 is really putting lots of effort into all 3 of these signees and that can only lead to the good.

  107. storm45701 Jun 9th, 2009 at 10:57 pm

    50%??? Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s basically slavery.

there were always rumors the Idol deal was horribleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

Fuller will personally oversee Adam for sure, since they think they can make the most $$$ from him.

Actually, this puts a whole new light on the RS article for me. 19 wants to get it all out there now to see what happens from here. Perhaps? IDK. To be clear, for me, this isn’t a slam on Adam at all. This boy has some real talent! However, if the hype dims after this (probably not), then 19M/Simon Fuller has the summer to decide who he’ll personally manage, if anyone.

..just doing some thinking out loud. Again I’m probably completely wrong on this.

  108. Good for Allison! I definitely think she and Jive will be a great fit. I’m still a little surprised they took Kris, but we’ll have to see what comes of it I guess.

Also, just out of curiosity…are RCA and Jive the only labels 19 is signing the Idols to now? Besides Kristy who signed with Arista Nashville, it seems like it’s been a while since an Idol signed with anyone but RCA or Jive. Although I think I maybe remember Blake signing with Arista?

  109. Well, over the past 3 seasons it’s been four to Jive, two to RCA, one to Arista, and one to Arista Nashville. So, pretty spread out – only J is missing but they haven’t signed an R&B artist since Fantasia so that’s not surprising.

  110. That tends to make me think that the problem with Taylor had more to do with his own personality, and refusal to work to work on his album during the tour, rather than with 19 preferring Daughtry. At least I hope so, for Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ sake.

Me too CathyMK! I’m happy to hear he’s in the studio already. Also, as far as the cookie cutter album goes, I personally just don’t see cookie cutter for Kris. I hope for the same for Allison. Her voice is cutting edge, so I’m thinking/hoping they’ll work for something good with her. This could actually be the case of three great albums!!!

  111. I’m so happy for Allison. I’m so worried for Allison. I’m really trying to be as excited and positive as possible about this, and I’m very glad she now has her opportunity, but I have a really hard time believing that Jive will let her make an Allison album rather than forcing her into their box of crappy bubble-gum garbage with their other artists. It sure seems to me like Jive is a very bad place for her, musically. I desperately hope I’m wrong.

But, for the moment — congratulations, girl. May you savor your accomplishment.

lydia: IMHO, she has one of the most compelling voices, most instinctive vocal nuances, great tone, expressive phrasing etc, etc, ever to be seen on the Idol stage.

Lydia, this is a beautifully worded statement of the girl’s ability. As far as I’m concerned, she’s the greatest singer in the history of all universes :biggrin_wp:, and you captured the reasons for that just wonderfully.

  112. i hope they work with allison’s voice. She has problems with pharasing of lyrics. There were times when she lost me because i couldnt understand her.I’m sure her recording with jive will hopefully fix that.

  113. I have a really hard time believing that Jive will let her make an Allison album rather than forcing her into their box of crappy bubble-gum garbage with their other artist

I think I read somewhere that her A&R person worked with Pink. SO, I’m hopeful she will put out something fun like that. Honestly, I think that would be her best bet to sell and keep herself in the game. She’s so young. I’d like her to get some good songs and airplay.

  114. Kris is already in the studio working and meeting up with song writers. On top of that he has tour rehearsals. He’s more classy and driven then Taylor Hicks
when it comes to work and focus. From what i hear from twitters and from what i know about him he’s NO taylor hicks.I’m surprised he hasnt fainted from lack of sleep lol.

  115. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s my problem with Jive- Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d rather see Kris and Allison be Kris and Allison, instead of being pushed into the mold of some other pop star, especially watered down stuff like Nick Lachey.

LOL, CathyMK, quoting you once again! I’m not familiar enough with Nick Lachey to know if his song interpretations and phrasing are a match for Kris. If it’s a watered down version, it may come across as amazing!

  116. I hope there isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t anything to report about Gokey, but wonder if there is any chance he goes country? I think he was twittering about being in Nashville for meetings . . .

I believe he said that the meetings were concerning his foundation. In response to some previous posts, he may indeed not be signed with 19, but I do agree, too, that he will be signed. I’m sure he has impressed some. Phil Stacey said in one interview that his people would be glad to sign Danny (Reunion Records, which is a division of Sony). Whether he goes Christian, that remains to be seen. I have heard him say in several recent interviews that he did not want to limit it to that, as he wants to be inclusive with his music as far as genres. We will see. I sure would not mind him going Phil’s way, whose cd I can’t wait to hear,:-D. He’s got 3 songs on his official site, the second of which was released to radio last Tuesday. While I don’t want to wait a long time to hear about Danny signing, I don’t want it rushed, either. I remember hearing Ace Young say that he felt that Taylor and Kat’s cd’s were released to soon. I don’t want that to happen to Danny.

sooo happy for allison! she and kris made me get addicted to the show this AI season. and cant wait for their albums!!! unlike last year, when i was waiting endlessly and almost in a vacuum for the davids albums to come out, this year i can happily hang out in mjs blog :clap_tb:

    happy happy hump day everyone!

I don’t mean to be a post whore, but I like this post!!!

  118. Yay! They will not regret signing the ineffable awesomeness that is Allison Iraheta.

Everytime I read or hear Allisonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s name I get that little jingle in my head that Slezak likes to play at the end of his vids (ALLLLis-sonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ALLLIISON!!

That is Allison by The Pixies. It would be totally left field and probably has zero chance of ever happening, but I would really love to see Allison collaborate with Frank Black, lead singer/songwriter of The Pixies. I think that would be incredible.

  119. So happy for Allison. She really brought it duing AI and I love her spunk.

    Way to go kiddo!

  120. …the giant EXHALE of the season. I flatly stated (and here, I think) that Alli would get a major deal after the PAPA performance. So, I have all but suffocated during the interim before the welcomed news.

lydia:she has one of the most compelling voices, most instinctive vocal nuances, great tone, expressive phrasing etc, etc, ever to be seen on the Idol stage. …[S]he is a … compelling stage presence and truly fits into the modern music scene. … I still think Allison is the great à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“singerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ from this group while Adam is the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“celebrity….

As with JohnM, you pretty much captured my thoughts with your words.

And, JohnM, where were we? Hmmm, let’s see:

    Artist: The Heta

    Album: To Hot to Handle

Title song: (to be penned, writer needed)

  121. Aw look at this, first Kris and now Alli — both my little underdogs who had to claw their way through the season, now with their very own shiny major label record deals :D High hopes for both of them, hope their keepers treat them well!

I would not be surprised if Alli releases her album first, especially if for her it is more just a matter of picking out material. I haven’t heard whether she plans to write on her songs or not…

  122. I put this is a couple of threads, just so everyone who is interested will see it. I know not everyone reads all the threads on this site (or maybe you do????)

    http://www.comcast.net/tv/eyeonidol/66318/idoltop10chat/

  123. yeah Allison’s A&R is Theresa..she has worked with BSB, Britney, Pink, and Beyonce..every act she has worked with has become huge stars

  124. Say what you want haters, but I would suspect that Gokey is probably the only one in the top 4 who actually needs money. That’s probably why there is a delay in his signing. He’s also 29 and not just going to sign any contract. Kris and Adam probably have the best contracts based on where they finished. You know they have very little control of what they put out(despite what they say), and Allison will have even less. Even now Daughtry and Clarkson have almost no control over their musical output. At least Adam has the better songwriter working with him. Desmond Child has been around forever and is one of the best for catchy rock tunes.

  125. AnnaMarieFields: i hope they work with allisonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s voice. She has problems with pharasing of lyrics.

Her phrasing is one of her fantastic talents. I’ve seen many people praise it, and I’ve never before seen anyone say it’s a problem.

  126. I’m so happy for these three! And it may be baseless optimism but I wouldn’t immediately assume Allison will be Disney-fied. If Adam’s RS interview is any indication, I’d think Idol is loosening the reins on their charges. And from the little I’ve read about the people working with her, I’m incredibly excited about the music she’ll put out. Her look alone is a refreshing change from most teenybopper stars today.

The whole “shield” thing with Danny is very interesting and actually makes a lot of sense. And to be honest, if anyone else is going to be signed I hope it’s Megan, partly out of sheer curiosity. She had so much potential that ultimately wasn’t displayed on the show, and her studios are actually pretty good. Add to that her beauty and bizarre personality. She’s a package artist alright, just not in the conventional Idol sense. IMO.

  127. My Top 2 of season 8, Adam and Allison have been signed!

Great news, and I’m so happy for her. She’s going to do great.Just needs help in a few areas which I’m sure she’ll get with her production team.

  128. No time to read through all the comments this morning, but just wanted to come in and say YAY!! So happy about this news! Hers is the album I want the most from this group so I’ll be waiting eagerly for it.

  129. “Allisonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s A&R is Theresa”
What does A&R stand for? Has Kris’ A&R been announced? Adam’s?

  130. There hasnt been a press that said Theresa is Allison’s A&R so i wont believe it.

  131. Congrats to Allison and Adam!

As a huge Danny fan, I really hope he gets signed as well and that the delay comes from the fact that he wasn’t in LA to negotiate a contract until, like, two days ago. Allison is from LA so she had meetings regarding her contract while the other idols were back in their hometowns.

  132. This is great to hear. Allison has such a unique voice, and I hope they give her songs worthy of that voice. If her A&R person worked with Pink, that definitely bodes well. Yay Allison! Rocker signed!

  133. well, this became a joint Allison/who-else-are-they-signing thread fast…LOL.

Danny will not be signed to 19. End of story.
(and, lord, Gokey, I hope you are not reading here. Stay away from these places for your mental health, man).

One thing is for sure: Kris Allen, like David Cook, is taking the reins immediately. He’s already writing, just like Cook and DAUGHTRY did. It is not out of the question to have a single by early Fall.

Does Allison write? I hope they have her contribute her own music if she does.

  134. Allison has stated on numerous occasions that she writes her own stuff.
I don’t know how much of a well of life experience she has to draw upon to write great stuff. Having a mature voice and a mature, seasoned life to draw upon are two different things.

Having said that, I think that Allison will have the longest, most successful career of any of the contestants this season.

Absolutley over the moon about her signing!! Bring it Grrrrrrrlllll!!!!

Say what you want haters, but I would suspect that Gokey is probably the only one in the top 4 who actually needs money.

I’m not a Danny hater, but I do have to wonder why you think he’s the only one who actually needs money. By the number of different glasses he’s sported, I find it a bit difficult to believe he’s in dire need of money. I just don’t think any of them are independently wealthy.

  136. Allison has fabulous phrasing. The only real problem she had during the season was with her diction, but she was wearing braces on her lower teeth. She’ll be fine once they come off (if they haven’t already). She’s only 17! She has nowhere to go but up, and she’s starting from a very high place.

I am so excited for her and her legion of fans. Sometimes (in both her case and Kris’s), the cream really does rise to the top, in spite of the best efforts of TPTB.

And, yeah, I’m feeling bad for Danny right now too. Was never a fan of his singing or his cluelessness, but I don’t think he’s a bad guy at all, and I do think he was badly used. Idol is not a warm and fuzzy place for the naive or slow on the uptake.

  137. Brian Mansfield has the official PR – Allison Iraheta signs to 19/Jive

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Allison was an absolute stand-out this season,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ stated RCA/JIVE Label Group’s Chairman and CEO Barry Weiss. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Her bluesy, powerful voice, spunky attitude, and edgy star power immediately captivated us and it didn’t matter where she ranked on Idol, we knew we wanted her to join our amazing crop of young talent at Jive.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

She was going to get signed no matter what :-)

  138. Her phrasing is one of her fantastic talents. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve seen many people praise it, and Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve never before seen anyone say ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a problem.

From the way the original statement was worded, I think the poster meant Allison’s ennunciation, not phrasing. I agree with you… her phrasing is excellent!

    50%??? Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s basically slavery.

Well, that’s not a definite. I just said I wouldn’t be surprised. Typical management deals range from 15-25%. But half has happened befoe when you are dealing with big, greedy, powerful entities signing newbies, so anything is possible.

  139. Well, over the past 3 seasons ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been four to Jive, two to RCA, one to Arista, and one to Arista Nashville. So, pretty spread out – only J is missing but they havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t signed an R&B artist since Fantasia so thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not surprising.

Labels such as Columbia and Epic, now part of the SonyBMG umbrella (formerly Sony before the merger), have yet to sign anyone.

The country labels would probably be the attraction for Megan, since they don’t really have anyone else to pick from this season. (Even though I would expect her to be a total flop like Kristy Lee; I’d rather see Felicia Barton signed.)

  140. I’m late to this thread so i’m just going to say CONGRATS TO ALLISON!!!!!!
I can’t wait to get her CD.

  141. There has been a lot of talk about Allison’s enunciation. ie. she puts an “H” sound in front of her words. This is true. But a lot of people have said that this is because of her braces. I disagree. The “H” sound would not have anything to do with that because that sound comes from the throat.

The most likely reason for this “so called” problem is that she grew up singing in Spanish. She is only 17 and hasn’t had the experience to get over the linguistic differences.

I have been an ESL teacher for the past 14 years.

This is the most likely explanation for the “H” problem.

I couldn’t agree with you more, Allison’s enunciation was due to her background, not her braces…

I can hardly wait for the CD’s of Kradison

  143. dcmjfan127: What does A&R stand for?

It stands for Artist and Repertoire. An A&R person looks for artists/songwriters/producers, helps them with their development, and hooks them up for projects.

There hasnt been a press that said Theresa is Allisonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s A&R so i wont believe it.

Yeah — it’s easy to say that Teresa is her A&R because she’s the head of A&R for Jive’s parent group, Zomba, but that doesn’t mean that she’ll be handling her personally. Similar to saying that someone’s being managed by Simon Fuller when they’re directly managed by someone under him.

matkojapan: Allison has stated on numerous occasions that she writes her own stuff.

The one example of a song that we know she cowrote is Take It Or Leave It — her recording of it is at:
    http://www.youtube.com/user/BrandonPetersMusic

Me: Her phrasing is one of her fantastic talents. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve seen many people praise it, and Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve never before seen anyone say ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a problem.

tinawina: From the way the original statement was worded, I think the poster meant Allisonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s ennunciation, not phrasing.

Yeah, I know she did :wink_wp: — but I figured some people might be sick and tired of me saying that her enunciation is, as matkojapan said, only a “so-called” problem. Other singers make the same stylistic choices she does, such as the “H” at the start of some words. As far as I’m concerned, she doesn’t need to change a darned thing about her enunciation/diction!

  144. “Here comes the next Daughtry imo.” (from pg one)

C.D. had best look in his rearview mirror, lest he’ll get his ass run over by The Rocker!
And, I’ll surmise that Fuller takes a personal interest in this girl. He sees the writing on the wall!

  145. Do you guys think my boy Matty G still has a chance to get signed?
I am so worried about him.

  146. “Do you guys think my boy Matty G still has a chance to get signed?
I am so worried about him.”
I think Matt has more than a chance to be signed, He is too good to pass up on. I am just losing hope everyday that he will be signed to 19. This doesn’t mean the end of the world by any means, it just means that we’ll have a longer wait before we hear news on who he is signing with. :thumbup_tb:

  147. maracaibo: Do you guys think my boy Matty G still has a chance to get signed?

Not by the 19/Sony machine, no, I don’t think so. But I’d encourage you to take the same attitude I did with Allison — hope that another label (whether major or indie) will pick him up later, and if not, that he’ll self-produce stuff. Indeed, if Jive screws Allison over musically, as I fear they might, I’ll be wishing that they had passed on her and she had gotten a deal with a better label. I think that’s how I’d be feeling now if I were an Archie fan. So, you never know — Matt (and anyone) might be better off musically outside the 19/Sony machine.

  148. It may be better off if Matt can get signed outside 19 (if I’m being completely honest, that’s why I was sorta hoping Kris would finish at 3rd, for a little more artistic freedom)

  149. I remember reading the posts in the beginning of this season, perhaps it was Idolatry or elswhere, I don’t remember, but people were complaining that there was nobody really standing out of the crowd this year and that it would be a booooring Idol after David Cook (my favorite from last year). And now we have THREE great idols (Kradison) and some other with great potential (Matt and Anoop) :) Yeay!!!
Did not like Danny, really disliked him later in the season, but now I feel really sorry for him – yes, he is clueless and self-appreciating, but as you guys said, he was kind of used by AI :( Wish him all the best, honestly

I didn’t understand the ‘needs money’ statement as well but I do know that he came to AI with 15 pairs of glasses (not much, in my opinion, as he’s been using glasses for many years) and finished with more than 50 pairs (which he said in an interview that were all gifts, he didn’t need to pay for any of them).

  151. I didn’t read any of the comments, this blog is moving way too fast for me lol.

I am so glad this is official and I could not be more excited to see what the future holds for Allison.

  152. I’m late to the party but just wanted to say, “Yay, Allison.”

This girl amazed me all season with her talent, her maturity and her incredible personality. The way she handled Simon’s criticisms, how she got along with EVERYONE, her tactfulness, her enthusiasm … she’s amazing. When I heard that she was looking after a reportedly drunk Megan at the Idol afterparty (I saw the raw video), I thought, “who’s the adult here?” She’s just a warm, genuine person who seems like she’d be an awesome friend. She’s got all the qualities to make it big. Hope she does.

    Go Kradison!

  153. We are at enunciation again. There is absolutely NO DOUBT that the “grill” full braces on Alli’s bottom teeth cause enunciation/diction problems. If it is true that her top full grills were removed in the past several months, there is ossibly some lingering effect from them as well. Anyone who has worn such (me), has a child who has (me), or has close teenage friends with braces(me) knows this. Any orthodontist will tell you this (just called my ortho buddy). Alli also uses stylistic variations which are not problems. The enunciation problems will disappear contemporaneously with the braces

I said a while back that the cause of the breathy “h’s” should be easily deduced. And the linguistics is it. However, I do not recall anyone saying that the braces caused the breathy H’s. They do not.

Other that the linguistic factors, I have wondered about another possible factor. It seems that many, many light years back in another universe not unlike our on that I was taught as a method to punch out, give power to certain words with a little “ha” push. Anyone heard of this as a technique, or have you taught or employed it?

  154. ppwars;

unless she is wearing a retainer, braces on the front of her teeth should have no affect on her enunciation whatsoever.

This whole braces thing is ridiculous.

If anybody on here has studied linguistics (as i have) they would know that she has a slight Spanish influence on her enunciation! NO BIG DEAL!!

As for the “ha” push. yes. ALL talented singers sing more from the diaphragm than
the throat. But almost none produce the “h” sound before words.

I honestly don’t even know why this is an issue!

    Braces=no
    Cultural and linguistic background =yes

let’s celebrate Lava Girl!! or should I say the rocker!! how about Lava Rock Grrrllll??

  155. one more thing, if it were a braces problem it would come through on her recordings. and it doesn’t.

When she is on stage she is singing based on emotion and what she knows. no time for a re-take.
that’s why the Spanish influence comes through.

    again. no big deal

    cheers

  156. Braces = yes, no doubt. Our universes are different here. Many here who have worn braces have experienced problems, I wager. Just as with the other issues, these problems are easier to control in the studio than live.

Linguistics/culture = yes, which I have always fully understood. And good technique could easily exacerbate/accentuate L/C influences (the “ha’s).

I AM in the “huh”, “what” camp, as in who cares? But, as all things Idol, the “let’s flail on a contestant for something” eye turned on Alli on these NON-issues. Thus, all this junk….

and, as you said, no big deal.

    cheers
