2018 Emmy Awards Winners List and Live Blog (UPDATING)

We’re live blogging the 2018 Emmys, airing live on NBC from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. All the technical awards, including most of the reality awards were handed out last weekend at the Creative Emmy Awards. The only reality award remaining is Outstanding Reality-Competition Program. RuPaul’s Drag Race cleaned up in many categories last week. Don’t be surprised if they take the prize away from multi winners The Voice and Amazing Race.

2018 Emmy Awards Complete Winners List (Creative Included)

Saturday Night Live’s  Colin Jost and Michael Che are set to host.

The show opens with a mildly amusing opening number about diversity and how “we solved it” but not really! I have a feeling tonight’s gonna be kinda awkward.

Colin Jost and Michael Che are next with the “Opening Monologue.”

Supporting Actor for a Comedy series is presented by Claire Foy and Matt Smith to Henry Winkler for Barry. Go Fonz!!!  It’s his first Emmy. Basically the “dude whose been around forever” award. But I’m not mad.

Jimmy Kimmel and Tracy Morgan present Supporting Actress for a Comedy to Alex Borstein for the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.  Tracy could barely pronounce her name.  Alex in that dress…she seems really…excited.

Millie Bobby Brown and Emilia Clarke present Writing to a Comedy Series to Amy Sherman Palladino for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg present Directing for a Comedy Series to  Amy Sherman Palladino The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. “The winner is La La Land” says Sandra. Ha.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel totally cleaning up in the Comedy category.

Angela Bassett and Tiffany Haddish present  Lead Actress in a Comedy Series to Rachel Brosnahan for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Rachel urges EVERYONE to vote.

Michael Douglas presents Lead Actor in a Comedy series to  Bill Hader for Barry. He advises loses to “carry that rage” and “carry it from this night forward.” Ha ha.

The awards are grouped together according to genre–Comedy, Drama, Variety etc.

Limited Series Categories are next! Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen join Michael and and Colin on stage. And I’m not sure what that was all about. ETA: Oh. They’re doing a bit as “Emmy Experts.”

John Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen make jokes about John’s Egot. “Thank you Jesus,” Chrissy says. They present  Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie to Merritt Wever from Godless.

Kit Harington and Constance Wu present Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie to Jeff Daniels for Godless.

Aidy Bryant and Bob Odenkirk present Writing for a Limited Series or Movie to William Bridges and Charlie Booker for USS Calister – Black Mirror.

Alec Baldwin and Kate McKinnon take the stage next to introduce the great Betty White.  She was nominated for the Emmy 24 times and won 8. She’s 96 years old holy crap! She’s one of the few television stars remaining who has been there from the beginning.

OK. That was an interlude. Back to Limited Series or Movie

James Corden presents Directing for a Limited Series or Movie to Ryan Murphy for the Assassination of Gianni Versace.  “Last night Betty White broke up a fight between Tom Arnold and Mark Bennett.”

Leslie Jones and Rupaul present Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie to Regina King for Seven Seconds. She looks shocked out of her mind. Leslie is screaming her head off. Yes. She was not expecting to win. “I want to curse right now.”

Rachel Brosnahan and Larry David present Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie to Darren Criss for the Assassination of Gianni Versace. Congratulations to Glee star Darren Criss! “To my darling Mia” says Darren, shouting out to his fiance Mia Swier. All those crazy fans who believe Darren is in a secret relationship with Chris Colfer? Their heads are exploding. (Yes. That really is a thing.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSb6ainSrNE

Michael Che does a bit on “The Reparations Emmy” It’s a video bit. He hands out Emmys to Jimmy Walker, Kadeem Hardison (A Different World) Jaleel White (Family Matters), Tichina Arnold (Martin), John Witherspoon, He’s handing out Bill Cosby’s old Emmys. That bit was actually funny.

Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer present Writing for a Variety Special to John Mulaney for Kid Gorgeous at Radio City

Sterling K Brown and Ron Cephas Jones from This is Us present Directing for a Variety Special to Glen Weiss for the Oscars. His mom passed away two weeks ago. THEN HE PROPOSES TO HIS GIRLFRIEND. Good thing she says yes. He puts her mother’s ring on her finger. He’s down on one knew. Oh boy. This is emotional.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydG3LaIR6C0

Tina Fey takes the stage to introduce the In Memoriam segment. We hear Aretha Franklin singing “Amazing Grace.” Fitting. Lot’s of behind the scenes types. And for some reason, John McCain is included.

Speaking of politician. Not one mention of the T word tonight. It’ll drive him nuts. Perfect.

Time to check in with Fred and Maya and their bad “Emmy facts.” This bit is superfluous and falling flat. Disappointed, because I like them both.

The Drama awards are next Colin:  “As my grandmother says after her third chardonnay. Now it’s time for some drama.”

Samantha Bee and Taraji B Henson present Supporting Actor in a Drama Series to Peter Dinklage for Game of Thrones. He shouts out to fellow Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

Samantha came the closest to mentioning the dreaded T word. She came short with a bit about “the dystopian show called the news.” She wants a new lead, suggesting Robin Wright from House of Cards

Elizabeth Moss and Samira Wiley present Supporting Actress in a Drama Series to Thandie Newton for Westworld. Aw, The two nominees from the presenters show, Handmaid’s Tale, were denied.

Gina Rodriguez and present Writing for a Drama Series to Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg for The Americans

Hannah Gadsby from Nanette presents Directing for a Drama Series to Stephen Daldry for The Crown. He’s not in the house, so on to the commercial break.

The Fab Five from the new Queer Eye present Lead Actor in a Drama Series to Matthew Rhys for The Americans. Last chance for The Americans, which just finished it’s 6 season run. Matthew thanks his girlfriend “If you propose to me I’ll punch you clean in the mouth,” she supposedly said to him. Love it.

Sarah Paulson presents Lead Actress in a Drama Series to Claire Foy for The Crown. The Crown will go on! But with a new older looking cast.

Ahead of the commercial, info for Hurricane Florida relief flashes on the screen.

It’s the 70th Emmy Awards. A big round number. The Emmy chief shares a short clip of past Emmys. And then introduces the Emmy interns. And next, it’s the accountants from Ernst and Young. Fred and Maya introduce them while handing out cheese plates!

OHHHH. Time for Outstanding Reality Program. Kelly Clarkson stars in the video package, crowing about her mother in law Reba.  Rick and Morty (yes, the cartoon characters) present to RuPaul’s Drag Race. The show won in categories across the board, so this is not a surprise.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6H_0fssa9Ic

Dave Chappelle and Neal Brennan (Chappelle show producers) present Outstanding Variety Sketch Series to Saturday Night Live. Lorne Michaels and the crew take the stage to accept the award.

Eric Bana and Connie Britton present Outstanding Variety Talk Series to Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

Patricia Arquette Benicio Del Toro and Ben Stiller present Outstanding Limited Series to The Assassination of Gianni Versace

Will Ferrell does a bit about being out of breath, wearing his access pass, before presenting Outstanding Comedy Series to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Almost a clean sweep in the comedy categories.

Kenan Thompson present Outstanding Drama Series to Game of Thrones. The last season of GOT airs next year.

And that’s it! I expected a show produced by SNL’s Lorne Michaels to have more laughs than it actually did.
