FOX and 19E Develop Sitcom for Kellie Pickler

Kellie Pickler not only has the #1 Country CD this week with her new release “Small Town Girl”, but according to Variety, Fox is developing a half-hour sitcom around her:

Pickler will play a naive small-town Southern girl — a character based on herself — who discovers that her biological father is the state’s well-respected governor. His presidential dreams are put in jeopardy, but the two form a father-daughter relationship that winds up helping his standing in the polls.

The project is produced by Twentieth Century Fox, Watson Pond and 19E. Watson Pond’s Brad Johnson and 19’s Simon Fuller and Malcolm Young will executive produce.

Chris Peterson and Bryan Moore, most recently from That 70’s Show,  are on board as writers and creators.  The project has landed a script order.

I’m not bowled over by the premise, but the writers have a good track record. If That 70’s Show is any indication, it could be a good show.  It remains to be seen if Kellie can actually act, however.  Even playing yourself in front of the camera takes acting skill, believe it or not.
