X Factor’s Josh Krajcik – Listen to His Self Titled EP (AUDIO)

Check out the adult contemporary stylings of  Josh Krajcik.  The X Factor runner up has just released a a self-titled EP. Interestingly, he’s uploaded all 4 songs to his official You Tube.

Yes, he’s released the new record independently, so I’m going to assume here that Simon Cowell passed on signing the singer. Still, the show is stepping up to give him some promo. Josh will perform on tonight’s X Factor results show.

Josh’s old-fashioned ballady style is about 20 years too late, but the dude can sing. But, I can’t see these tunes getting play on any but the futziest of AC stations.

ETA: Apparently, Simon signed him and will release his label debut in the spring. I find it rather odd that Josh would be able to release music independently ahead of a major label release.

Yes, he’s released the new record independently, so I’m going to assume here that Simon Cowell passed on signing the singer.

We called that back in the summer when Josh said he was talking to several labels.

Simon was never going to sign Josh unless he won. Of course, at the rate Melanie is going, she might release independently as well.

  • girlygirltoo

Not surprised he is releasing stuff independently. He can definitely sing, but he’s just too old fashioned in style to get much interest. I know he’s been playing some shows in and around his hometown in Ohio and those have drawn decent crowds, so maybe he’ll end up doing what Matt Giraud seems to be doing, which is making a living by being a local/regional artist.

The song is the lead track from Josh’s forthcoming self-titled EP, which is out this Thursday in iTunes. His major-label full-length debut will follow in spring 2013 on Simon Cowell’s Syco Music via Sony Music. The album, which Josh has been writing all year in Columbus, Ohio, London, and Los Angeles, features songwriters and producers such as Eg White (Adele, Pink, Florence and the Machine), Steve Kipner (Christina Aguilera, Janet Jackson), Chris Seefried (Haley Reinhart, Lana Del Rey), and Steve Robson (Lily Allen, Rascal Flatts, James Morrison).

    Simon signed him.

  • girlygirltoo

Huh. So is Syco/Sony releasing the EP? I’m confused.

I doubt he’s going to get much promo beyond this appearance, because Simon probably realizes he isn’t likely to sell much.

    What’s going on with Melanie?

I guess the EP is like the Hot AC version of the Mix Tape (like Astro is putting out).

They seem to be cautiously testing the waters with the X-Factor contestants.  A single here, a single there, an EP, drop a mix-tape…do a full album later?

I think LA is taking his time developing some of his acts – like Marcus and Astro.

Huh. So is Syco/Sony releasing the EP? I’m confused.

iTunes lists the EP as self-released with distribution through BMG Rights Management, which is a UK music publisher.

So we have Josh “Your Listen-at-Work Music circa 1987” Krajcik releasing an indie EP, though he’s signed by a major that plans a spring album for him… How could any reasonable industry follower NOT be confused?

  • girlygirltoo

IKR? It would be different if the label was actually promoting this EP, because they’ve done that with new artists before. EP to test the waters, then a full CD

  • girlygirltoo

Melanie’s supposed to be on XF next week, then her album drops the following week. Unless they are waiting until the last minute to reveal the promo plans, that seems like the only big promo she’s going to get

I find it strange that he was signed, but I am happy for him. I was looking up the title of his single again and I found that tidbit.

Her album is apparently out on the 11th now. Rumors, and amazon, say its called Truly.

This guy is so talented.  I hope it gets him hired for something; he is too talented to be passed up.

With talent like Josh, surely there is a label for him. They sign young people who cant sing all the time.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

He can sing but I find these songs kind of dire.

  • http://aquayers.blogspot.com aquayers

Quite nice!! But no chance to be played on any radio whatsoever.

  • http://twitter.com/bignliddle BigNLiddle

I absolutely love his voice, but there’s no place for him on the radio :-/

  • WestiesRule

They need to find the right songs for this guy. Everything sounds the same. He has a great recorded voice.

You’re right.  I’ve heard absolutely NOTHING PR wise for Melanie.  No performances, no interviews, no nothing.

It’s like they want to sweep her under the rug.  I wonder what she did to warrent the bussing.

I mean, no one from Season 1 is tearing up the charts, BUT quite a few of them have been very active doing things to slowly promote themselves – Rachel, Marcus, Chris, and Astro have all had things going for them – whether it’s acting, or doing local shows, promotions, radio, interviews, etc…  But Melanie?  NOTHING.   I think she made one appearance on a red carpet and that’s about it.

Has she done radio promo?  Interviews? Sang ANYWHERE?  It’s like she doesn’t exist.

  • girlygirltoo

He’s talented, sure, but he is so old fashioned.

  • girlygirltoo

It’s just strange. First they hide her away and send her to some kind of sexist boot camp so she can lose weight (when she wasn’t really overweight to begin with) and get a makeover, then — aside from the Pepsi commercials, it’s pretty much radio silence. I’m not even sure she did a radio tour to support her singles (the one that was sent to UAC radio did decent, so she should have at least visited some of those stations).

It’s pretty clear she probably is going to be a UAC artist rather than a pop artist, but even so, the lack of promo she’s gotten to date is odd.

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

Has she done radio promo?  Interviews? Sang ANYWHERE?  It’s like she doesn’t exist.

All I can find by dint of checking her Twitter, checking the news section of her official site, and mad Googling skillz is a red carpet in August, an appearance at a Perez Hilton event in September or October, and then a performance in a Whitney Houston tribute at the Miami Make-A-Wish Foundation Ball some time this fall. There was one obscure interview that came out of the latter, but I had to Google for it, as it wasn’t linked on her official site. This is a level of activity I associate with artists who are making an album, not artists right on the verge of launching new product.

Josh Krajcik is also not exactly burning up the anything on PR — or if he is, he’s doing it by some weird stealth method that I’m unable to detect.

I’m all for artists focusing their energy on making a quality product and networking within their industry. I fully believe that artists don’t have to personally tip off fans to every bit of PR. But I don’t think I’m crazy to expect to see some PR to the general public and potential fans during the week that the artist launches a new single, EP, or album.

Maybe Amaro’s and Krajcik’s teams are convinced that one performance on XFUSA will be an extraordinarily powerful driver of EP/album sales. The history with American Idol performances of songs that don’t also have radio play does not support this view, though.

  • chillj

Melanie’s story is  bizarre if you consider that how someone promoted will affect how many will compete on the show in the future.  It defies common sense to spend millions on judges and let the talent wander off on its own.  It is cheaper to promote one or two new artists, I would think.  The only thing I have been able to come up with is that she may be reluctant to part with her winnings – and who can blame her?

  • angiedb

Love it! Been waiting for this since last season’s XFactor.

  • girlygirltoo

It looks like his appearance his done some good — his EP is #18 on iTunes right now.

ETA – “One Thing She’ll Never Know” is the highest ranking of the songs — it is at #134. Is that the one he sang tonight?

These are songs that I would buy. Don’t know about the rest of the world. In my dreams I have taken over the big 4 production companies. I need to learn my finance and business skills first to one day make this a reality. Wait for me Josh, I’ll make them play your songs on mainstream radio one day and make them like it by making it the only type of music available for the super buyers to listen to….
