X Factor UK Winner, James Arthur, Sacked by Simon Cowell (Report)

James Arthur won X Factor UK in 2012, and he hasn’t been able to stay out of trouble since. Now, there are reports that boss, Simon Cowell, has sacked him altogether, after the singer released a mixtape that supposedly glorifies terrorism.

The song in question is called “Follow The Leader,” and in it, James raps:

Look at what you do to me, I’m crying over stupid s***, you’re such a f***ing homophobe, wish I’d never let you in, to think that I was thinking maybe I should let you live, I’m gonna blow up your family like I’m a terrorist

“It seems James is self-destructing,” a source told The Sun, which broke the story. “He has done himself no favors with his outbursts. It’s as if he’s almost willing Syco to drop him. Simon and Syco have been extremely loyal to James throughout his problems but there’s only so much they are prepared to put up with.”

James shenanigans since he won the title are documented by The Mirror and include sex scandals, twitter feuds and charges of homophobia.

James defended the lyric on twitter, describing the song as a snapshot of a crazy fan, a la Eminem’s “Stan”

He also claims he’s still with Syco. Well, as far as he knows.

I think James may have some undiagnosed mental health issues he needs to deal with.

He also compared himself to exploited killer whale. He asked his fans to design a cover for his mixtape and this is what Popjustice came up with:

And then there is this: James Arthur as killer whale:

What exactly does it mean when a recording artist gets fired? Is there a morals clause in his contract ?

  • No Thanks

I’m sure SYCO/Simon Cowell reserved the right to dismiss his artists at any time for any reason. He doesn’t have to formally fire him, but he can drop him. Basically stop the financial and other related support.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Wow. Sounds like James’ troubles are all of his own making. What a jerk!

not sure if egomania and self delusion can be categorised as mental health issues…

Also, after so much bad press UK’s radio stations blacklisted him, so his singles after “You’re Nobody …” didn’t get much radio support. You all know what that means for the future of a recording artist.

I’m pretty sure there is a formal diagnosis for both of those. I dunno, something is “off” about James.

  • Marko

His last diagnosis was “acute exhaustion”.

Well actually he did not compare himself to a whale. The UK media is bullying James Arthur to the fullest. Those pictures are the epitome of it. Some fans made amazing art for the free mixtape. It was a lovely project.

I’m actually kind of sad about this. I think the dude is talented and made a great album that I wish could have done better. I have no clue why he has been so bent on being so destructive the way he has been for months now. Just bent on wrecking his own career. I guess some people can’t always handle a good thing.

Too bad, because I was hoping he could break into the US market. Oh well.

Sorry I somehow posted as a guest, how is that even possible. Very savvy..

cranberry, you have a Doppleganger. Just mentioning.

From what I read, Arthur compared his situation to the whale’s, not to himself – except then he proceeded to ask his fans for cover art that connected them – so the distinction becomes moot. If the UK media is bullying, they are working with the facts he gave them for ammunition – the cover looks more like a neatly executed riposte to his exploitation complaint – and seems SOP to me.

If he has a chance to see the movie, next I expect to hear about how he’s all “Divergent”, and being persecuted for that – I don’t know that he could resist, really. But maybe he will be content with appropriating the whale story.

He does not operate logically – (jumping from the frying pan to the fire and back again constantly) – so not much would surprise.

    JMO. Of Course.

Who of us at one time or another or many times been acutely exhausted? I didn’t realize hard work was now classified as a symptom of??? Usually means artist up for days doing drugs and collapsed or too spun out to continue working. This is such a cop out for a variety of things.

I don’t know him at all or know anything about him- but looking at those lyrics, it does look like someone just trying to copy Eminen’s “Stan,” – so maybe he should be fired, it should be more because of lack of original talent, I’m not quite sure it meant that as a terrorist lyric, he’s just bad at ripping off other people’s songs.
