The problem is he’s SO unmarketable. He doesn’t fit into any current genre. If he wants to record, the best he can hope for is to get straddled with an album of cover songs from the 60s. He’s going to end up on the West End, which is perfect for him ‘â€œ he just doesn’t have what it takes for a recording contract.

I don’t get why they want to press everyone in the pop charts.
There are several acts out there that are very successful outside following the main stream hit radio and some of them managed by Simon.

One more… What the heck with the judges? All standing O? They are so cheap. With this level of the competition, when X-factor comes to US, it will become a real joke to put Simon to shame.

I like the quality of Archie’s voice a little better….. (btw, I didn’t watch AI last season and don’t feel the level of emotional connection to The Davids as many here do)…

Joe and DA have been constantly compared and they sang the same Elton John’s song.

To me, Joe’s voice is too pretty, thin and light-weighted without texture or depth. But he has been consistent and better than most of his older competitors. I think Joe, Olly and the horrible twins will be top 3.

I can see Joe heading right for “Joseph and the Amazing, etc.” and cutting a record on the side. Didn’t the guy who won the reality show contest to be the new Joseph get a record? If he can, Joe can. And if SuBo can do a record, then he definitely can.

I agree that this has to be the worst year for overall talent on the X Factor .. I don’t think any of them have star potential … I think Joe puts in a consistently good performance each week and I wouldn’t mind him winning .. although I agree that a lot of his performances and singing style is a bit dated .. he is very musical theatre … but he seems a nice lad and he’s from the same part of the UK as me .. but I don’t vote so I’m not doing the regional voting thing …lol

The only other ones I find entertaining are Jedward … they’re bright little rays of sunshine in a very dull year … I just wish they woud come on stage tomorrow night on the results show and be Subo’s backing dancers. She’ll be belting out “Wild Horses” … and they can be running around in the background on hobby horses like a couple of kids playing .. lol

NatalijaS, I think that in an ideal world, a candidate for a recording contract would have both a very good voice and that “star” charisma. I don’t think that any of the remaining candidates have that combination, and Joe is the only one for whom the thought of listening to an entire album doesn’t make me wince. Jedward could be a novelty act (I’m sure they will be), and some of the others could sound ok with a lot of help from studio engineers I guess. But it seems like the most appealing one from a performance charisma standpoint who is left is Olly, and he just doesn’t sound very good most of the time. For me, Joe McE would be making the best of a not-optimal situation with the candidate pool. And I actually agree with someone upthread who said that they think he has the potential to mature from where he is now. But I enjoy listening to him sing, at least, without needing a circus whirling around him to make it interesting enough to get through the performance.

I guess bottom line, I don’t see him as wildly less apparently marketable than Archie was, and Archie is doing fine. I like the quality of Archie’s voice a little better, but they seem to me to be of a similar type. And it helps that Joe is a pretty kid who looks as though he will mature into a handsome young man – give him a few months of invisalign braces and a good stylist and he’ll look fantastic in the teen magazines. (btw, I didn’t watch AI last season, and don’t feel the level of emotional connection to The Davids as many here do – I realize that people who watched the season may have very different feelings about Archie’s level of charisma as compared to Joe’s. It’s not something that jumps out at me though).

I’ll be very pleased if Joe McE wins, based on what I’ve seen so far. Really good voice, he performs well with confidence, and he’s adorable.

I’ll be very pleased if Joe McE wins, based on what I’ve seen so far. Really good voice, he performs well with confidence, and he’s adorable. He wasn’t that interesting to me at first, a bit too “aw, isn’t he sweet”. But he is growing on me. I admire his capabilities. He performed a song that is dependent on beauty and emotional expressiveness of the voice to work, and he delivered. Stacey and Danyl also had those types of songs, and they did not. The others seem to present themselves as “performers” rather than vocalists, with varying degrees of success. That’s ok, sometimes they’re entertaining, but I am beginning to hope that Joe wins, because he can really sing.

They usually have some crap singers who appeal on sentimental grounds, but 50 ‘â€œ 60% can usually sing. This year, I think it’s maybe 2, at most..

And both of them got voted off already.

Lloyd – the kid can’t sing, but I think this is the best he can reach. And the new hair is better. But he is bond to go.
Stacey – SORRY – I didn’t like it. I didn’t watch it in the live stream version. I just watched the “best”parts in the end of the show. And they picked one of the picthy parts, and now that I’ve seen the complete version, it really shows how the performance was. She looks like a good person, but she doesn’t have the nerves to win it. And if she does, I don’t think she will have an amazing career.
John and Edward – I SOOO wanted them to do Wake me up before you go-go. Hope they saved it to the group performance. Was this the most Wham! performance of the night??? Singing – horrible, but that’s not what we watch them for…
Danyl – the first performance I watched in live stream. And almost made me run away. It is not his worst performance (hello Don’t Want to Miss a Thing), but it was cocky, pitchy… I think he will be back in b2. And he should… He completely lost what made me think he was a good candidate for winning in the beginning.
Olly – disappointing. I think he has a future in the area, but I really didn’t like it. And it is the second performance that I didn’t like in a row. I think Olly is starting to lose his appeal in this competition.
Joe – the only strong performance of the night. I don’t care if it is not a George Michael’s song. It was his best so far, and he definitely should be in the finals. It is always said here that he is a british version of Archie; I disagree. Archie always looked fake to me, like he wanted to pass the image of nice simple boy. Joe is a nice simple boy. And that’s what makes me like him.
Overall – horrible night. A lot of people can be in b2, and as no one is really safe with the deadlock… Anyone can go home. I hope it isn’t Joe (he doesn’t deserve it) or Jedward (they do, but they are so fun).

They are the most entertaining thing on X-Factor. I hope the UK puts them through so they will stay.
