Zap2it is reporting that Justin Bieber and Stevie Wonder have taped performances for next week’s X Factor finale.

I’ve also heard that Justin taped something with Top 6 contestant, Drew–who is a big fan of the Biebs. Justin reportedly brought out Drew  to sing the final line of ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town’ and then shared some “inspirational words”, but I don’t have confirmation for that bit of info.

Also, I’m hearing that Florence + the Machine taped a performance this week.

A couple of odds and ends:

Here are the Top 4 commenting on their performances via THR

Josh Krajcik on singing Hallelujah:

Indeed, after the show, Josh made sure to mention Jeff Buckley’s recording of the song, which is nearly as monumental as the original, and the fact that “Hallelujah” has been sung by several American Idol alums was not lost on him, either. “It’s risky,” he said. “But here’s the thing: it’s a desperate and beautiful love song, I love it and I connect to it, and because it’s been done so well by so many different people — like Buckley’s version is hard to top — the only strategy I had was to try and make it mine, to do a little bit with the melody to make it more Kraj, so hopefully I did that.”

And some behind the scenes stuff from Entertainment Weekly

The pre-tape! So, after the show, the audience was kept in the studio for a pre-tape, which is somewhat common on talent shows like this. (It regularly happens on American Idol, where, for instance, Katy Perry would pre-tape her performance a week ahead of the results show where it aired.) Unfortunately, Fox won’t allow me to tell you who was there, but I’ll just say that there were actually four different acts — and that includes soloists and groups. The performance will be spliced into next week’s grand finale. It’s Christmas-themed and, actually, quite fun — and surprising. Prepare yourself! (And, if you really care to find out who it is and want to dig around on the web a bit, I’m sure you can find an outlet or two — or a blogger — who didn’t heed Fox’s embargo.)

American Idol does pretape for their results show but they don’t pretape the acts for their finale. Correct me if I’m wrong about that. I was always so impressed with Idol’s finale show–quite a spectacle. This is kind of like cheating if you ask me.

Justin Bieber doesn’t miss a chance to perform…anywhere.  Am I missing something or doesn’t he get much radio time.  I just can’t shake the feeling that, unlike Justin Timberlake (and more like the Jonas Bros) that he will slowly fade into the sunset.  I just don’t see him appealing to an older set of listeners…but I have been wrong before.

The just roll him up in the red carpet at the end of the day so he’s ready for the next one.

Still, it’s nice to be asked to perform on these shows.

To be fair, Simon seems to be having trouble booking people on his show, so I’m sure he’s willing to take performers in whatever way he can get them. Plus, I’m sure even the stars don’t want to be working 3 days before Christmas on a show that probably many people are too busy to watch.

I’ve been to 3 Idol finales S6, S8, and S10, The only act I’ve ever seen pretaped has been Green Day in S6. Rumor was that FOX made them pretape because they were worried about the censors.
The Idol Finale truly is amazing to watch as all the live acts set up. There is about 3 minutes to do it but it gets done, even Gaga’s “Edge of Glory” volcanos last season!
XF might be having trouble getting acts but they may also be having trouble filling the audience. I got an e-mail from XF yesterday (I am on their ticket mailing list) telling me to ask all my friends to register for the list because “I” would have a better chance of getting in because tickets are in such high demand! LOL! Seems if tickets are in such high demand they wouldn’t need me to ask all my friends to ask for tickets. And, I got called for tickets to a show back in October and the guy asked me how many I wanted. I said, “You mean I can get more than 4?” He said I could get as many as I wanted!
NOT, the way Idol tickets are handled!

I think that could already be starting.  He’s just not very good.  But if he’s saved his money and it’s been wisely invested for him, he’s already set for life.  He could quit now and never have to work another day.  Not a bad position for a kid who’s not even 18 yet.

I wouldn’t be too worried for Bieber. His Christmas album is already past 800K, will most likely fly past 1 million by next week …

When is the Beibs dropping a real album? It’s been odd that they’ve waited this long, usually teen acts release on a relentlessly fast schedule. But I know he’s had voice changing issues so that might be the reason for the delay.

I do think he might be able to make the transition just because he’s surrounded by so many people who have tread that territory before. But I think it will get harder if he doesn’t start to physically mature… right now he still looks like he’s 13. Usher and Timberlake both started looking like men at one point and it was easier to see them in a different light.

Yeh…not to be ga ga gross but everytime I see pictures of Biebs and Gomez in passionate clinches it brings me up fast…just doesn’t correlate with the visual of both of these kids, for me.  Biebs is what, 17?, and he still looks and sometimes acts like a 14 year old…and then the next moment he is off to Mexico for a romantic tryst.  I know the kid can’t control how he looks…but it might not be bad for him to lie low for a bit until he catches up to his age, and then, like JT, he should re-invent himself for an older more mature audience.  That strategy has worked well for a bunch of teen heart throbs….sure its a gamble, but then so is what he is now doing.

As far as the Christmas album…considering what Buble is selling for his and their comparative notoriety, I think Bieber is way, way underperforming. The Tweeny set may be clamoring for it as they go shopping with Mom but I have my doubts as to whether it will re-surface next year (like good Christmas albums do) and whether it will get played by radio stations as the season winds to a close.

Thanks for all that info on Idol & XF, Buffynut, that’s all very interesting.  Although, if I remember correctly, I think the seating capacity for XF was supposed to be greater than that of Idol, maybe that’s part of the problem?  (Or maybe it was just the XF stage that was bigger.)

Maybe they are pre-taping a lot of performances for the XF finale to also make things easier for Steve.  Because of all the moving parts, that’s the hardest show of the season for a host, and Steve isn’t exactly up to Ryan’s skill level when it comes to managing such a circus.

harvestmoon, Idol and XF tape in the exact same studio so if XF has a bigger audience, due to the set-up, it wouldn’t be by much. Maybe 100 at most.

pretaping performances for the finale is lame lame lame

I like Bieber, kids love him and he seems like a decent person, I think he is a good role model.

Dammit Justin Bieber hasn’t disappeared yet. You know the influence is too much when there’s a news story about a picture about his exposed pink underwear. For the record guys who wear pink underwear should turn in their man card, but in reality, who cares?

Though I suppose that’s more the media’s fault than his own. And he did tweet something nice to Drew and I liked that. Curse media overexposure.

Someone please retire “Hallelujah” or at least refuse to approve it for Simon’s use.

I’d normally agree with you…but considering how close the finale is to the holidays I’m not shocked by the pre-taping. I’d much rather they pre-tape and have some good acts then to pull out a Rod Stewart.

ETA: or what Kristin said. LOL

All the pre-taped segments is going to make the finale pretty boring for the people in the live audience. I’m also a little disappointed it’s a Christmas-themed show. We’re getting enough Christmas related things elsewhere, I would have liked to have kept this to regular songs. I guess the performers make sense then as they all have Christmas music to promote.
