Love & Heartbreak …

After Louis’ controversial decision to send the judges’ vote to deadlock, we had to say goodbye to sweet Carolynne Poole last week. To sum up last week’s results: Christopher Maloney replaced Carolynne Poole in the TOP 12.

This week, the contestants will sing songs of LOVE & HEARTBREAK. Yep, expect cheese and more cheese!

According to TV Guide, tonight’s show airs at 8:20pm BST (3:20pm EDT, 12:20pm PDT) on ITV1 (135min). The Xtra Factor airs at 10:35pm BST (60min) on ITV2.

Where to watch the show? If you are in the UK or can get UK IP, watch on ITV.com. Possible alternatives: TV Nutters, TVPC.com.

Please post working live feed links in the comments section below as you find them!

This.Is.The.Factor. Dermot O’Leary dances into the studio. The judges arrive. My feed is jumping a bit.
Anyway, we get another look at Gary’s reaction to Carolynne’s elimination and tearful Rylan. Now Gary says he has already forgive Louis. But Dermot hasn’t!

The lines are now open! Dermot recites the phone numbers.

Tonight’s theme is Love & Heartbreak.

Jahmene Douglas – “Tears Dry On Their Own” by Amy Winehouse /”Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye

Great vocal performance. I just don’t think there was any need for mashup.
Yoko Ono tweeted him last week. Jahmene reveals he is still waiting for his special person at 21.
Louis: You are what the show is about! So young, so shy … You are amazing!
Tulisa: You are looking very dapper tonight. It’s all about the voice. Absolutely amazing.
Gary: Well done. Great simple vocal performance. Love the outfit. Strong.
Nicole: You were born to be on that stage.

Christopher Maloney – “Alone” by Heart

Solid vocals. But CHEESY. He can sing, but he sounds karaoke.
Nicole: Wow. Brilliant song choice. I’m really impressed.
Louis: It was a little bit too cheesy for me.
Tulisa: Strong vocal performance, but it doesn’t sound current.
Gary. There is no need to make it current. Chris, you are perfect just as you are.

Union J – “Bleeding Love” by Leona Lewis/”Broken Strings” by James Morrison feat. Nelly Furtado

They met One Direction last week before they went on stage. After last week’s awful performance, they started rehearsing more.
From what I’ve heard, this was great. My feed is still not working smoothly.
Tulisa: Much better than last week!
Gary: Total transformation from last week!
Nicole: You’ve got everything right this week.
Louis: You’ve worked so hard this week and it so payed off.

Ella Henderson – “Lovin’ You” by Minnie Riperton

Ella claims she and George Shelley are just best friends. Yeah, right.
White piano, Ella dressed up in white. Like mini Adele. Crazy note!
Gary: What a risk you took tonight! You completely nailed it!
Nicole: You are timeless and classic.
Louis: It’s so hard to believe you are only 16. I think you are a worldwide recording artist. Your mentor watched too many Adele videos.
Tulisa: Ella styles herself.

James Arthur – “No More Drama” by Mary J Blige

He and Nicole have a mentoring session in a pub. He talks to Mary J Blige on the phone.
Louis: that was powerful, emotional, great song choice Nicole!
Tulisa: You have this pain in your voice, you are believable, you are my favorite boy.
Gary: You have a lot of technique and you pair that with the pain in your voice.
Nicole: You are on the another level.

Lucy Spraggan – “Gold Digger” by Kanye West

Her grandmother died on Monday, right after the first weekend of live shows. Lucy doesn’t want people to feel sorry for her.
Lucy strums her guitar and sings/raps Kanye’s hit. She has dancers and a DJ on stage.
Gary: Well done. I liked you doing a cover for once.
Nicole: You swagged it out and you made it your own.
Louis: Well done. You did well after a tough week.
Tulisa: Well done. You could have done a sad song but chose to make people smile.

District3 – “I Swear” by All For One

They are worried about the song choice. By the end of the week, they like it.
Gah, this is a cheesy song. Pretty good, the last note was a bit off.
Tulisa: I understand why Louis picked this song for you. Your strong points are harmonies, you have the strongest harmonies.
Gary: The harmonies were off. The very last note was very off as well.
Nicole: I have to disagree with Gary. That last note was a bit flat. That performance was a bit too apple-pie. Sing a song like you mean it.
Louis: Gary, I think you are going deaf. Amazing harmonies.

Jade Ellis – “Love is a Losing Game” by Amy Winehouse

Fine vocal performance with song arrangement quite close to the original.
Gary: Jade, amazing performance, Simply, stylish, sexy. Terrific vocals, amazing job.
Nicole: You are like this amazing wild exotic flower.
Louis: I think you are incredible.
Tulisa: Vocally, tonight you proved yourself.

Adele tweeted about Ella Henderson! Screaming mums in the audience!

MK1 – “I Want You Back” by The Jackson 5

They give Louis urban makeover. UNCLE LOUIS! LOL. The performance is kinda cool.
Tulisa: You have the most fun on stage.
Gary: Good energy, good routine, it’s gone a bit too Glee this week for me.
Nicole: I didn’t feel it this week. I don’t think this is a song you would put on the album. It was a little too Glee for me. The rapping was good.
Louis: We need votes!

Kye Sones – “Love The Way You Lie” by Eminem feat. Rihanna/”Thank You” by Dido

Yikes, bad notes right at the beginning on LTWYL. Cringe-worthy. Then we randomly jump into “Thank You” and then back to LTWYL. What’s the point? And those flames?
Nicole: It was a brilliant song choice and mash-up with excellent vocals. There was fire on stage, it didn’t set me on fire.
Louis: Something was missing. I got bored.
Tulisa: You have all the ingredients, but it’s just not translating for some reason.
Gary: You gave it everything.

Rylan Clark – “Groove Is In The Heart & Gangnam Style & Pump Up The Jam” (MASH UP) – Deee Lite

Yes, he and Nicole call Gary Gary Borelow. And yes, Psy’s viral hit made it to X Factor. He starts with Take That’s classic “Back for Good”. OMG. Like, I can’t. I have no words. Pandas, Karl Lagerfelds, Rylan strutting on stage fiercely. His vocals suck, but this is watchable. Brian Friedman didn’t hold back with this production.
Louis: That is entertainment! I love Karl Lagerfelds!
Tulisa: It’s a bit cheesy and kraraoke, but it’s entertaining!
Gary: If there was a competition for how many songs you could kill in two minutes you’d win. My song was the best part before it turned into musical dirge.
Nicole: Brilliant artistic direction, Brian Friedman!

Melanie Masson – “Never Tear Us Apart” by Paloma Faith

Super breathy and a bit dated. I don’t like the white suit and red lipstick.
Nicole: Absolutely brilliant job.
Louis: You can sing anything, I’m a big fan.
Tulisa: Halfway through I got a bit worried about the song choice, but you got it together.
Gary: You sang your heart out.

And this is it for tonight! Tomorrow, we will see Taylor Swift and Rebecca Ferguson perform.

Who I want to see in the bottom: Christopher Maloney, Kye Sones, Jade Ellis.

LOL at Rylan. That was entertaining, sorry, can’t deny it.

Maybe Gary needs to take a cue from Nicole and actually pick songs that fit his contestants. Or at least make them more interesting.

I’m calling it, District 3, MK1, Kye Sones are very likely to hit bottom 2. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jade there as well. :(

Melanie and Ella were leagues above everyone else. I didn’t see Jahmene. James wasn’t bad but his mannerisms were creepy when he was singing, I put him at 3rd. Jade was good. Lucy and Union J were passable.

The other 5 sucked. The bottom 2 will consist of any 2 of MK1, District 3, or Rylan. Kye and Christopher have a shot at being bottom 2 as well. If Rylan doesn’t begin to embrace his “joke act” schtick, he better go. “I don’t want to be a joke act” then performs like a joke, that’s just stupid.

I was also slightly annoyed with his Westernized pronunciation of Oppan Gangnam Style, too >_>. It made him sound lazy.

Jade sounds like she has a couple of foghorns stuck up her nose and her throat.  while there’s nothing wrong with her pitch, her performance was totally snooze worthy

if Ella sounds rough to you then i’d say everyone else were singing like ligated cats in heat

i have to be fair though, some of them made a step of improvement from last week’s funeral dirge:
    - Jahmene didn’t oversing
    - Union J wasn’t a disaster (and LOL at not giving Jeorge a line).  the gay one is still their best singer
    - i still want Lucy to die but at least she didn’t sound like she wanted to die
    - Melanie did well, the only other contestant that i had nothing awful to say last week
    - Rylan (who desperately wanted to make others take him seriously) actually managed to be more animated in this performance than last week.  i enjoyed that one
    - Ella is still light years ahead over everyone else

    as for the others:
    - James Arthur pisses me off, i can’t get behind with that constipated kind of singing
    - don’t know what to feel about MK1, i guess they’re forgettable
    - the three wildcard acts who didn’t get picked would have been ALL better than Christopher Baloney.  “Alone” may be old but it’s a timeless song.  Christopher managed to make it sound so outdated
    - speaking of outdated, District 3 needs to find better songs.  they are better singers than 1D but 1D were more compelling (like me wish an anvil would drop on them) to watch than District 3 (who just bore me)

ETA: i almost forgot Kye. yeah that can’t be good for him

    *Kanye Shrug*

  • WestiesRule

No one jumped out at me this week. Most of the song choices were terrible. James Arthur and Union J were about the best. Louie does these groups no favors. Ella might be the best vocalist but the song choices are doing these poor people in. I don’t know if it’s me but there aren’t many decent contestants this season.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

I personally think these past weeks the themes were poor. They didn’t lend itself song choices that would service the contestants.

But, I don’t know, this batch is growing on me. But that is just me. My opinion is growing more against the majority on these singing competition blogs. Or my taste in music is shitty. I don’t give a crap either way.

  • lagom_lubot_si_mj

    yup taste is sh!tty

  • Stavros

    Adele tweets:
Adele ?@OfficialAdele Ella Henderson on X Factor is absolutely incredible! I LOVE her!! Good luck xx(and Adele barely ever tweets!)

ETA: commented before reading the post. Sorry for repeating what was already up there!

Umm the night was kinda of blah to be honest only liked a few acts. The only ones I really enjoyed was Union J complete turn around had good vocals enjoyed the song choice and really stepped up the second half of the song. James Authur nice vocals and believed every word he sang. Melanie  was  a bit off  in the beginning she was like i’m a breathy
little girl but then she showed some power. It was a tad theatrical
performance wise. If she could get the arrangements and good song
choices she can easily be a top 5.

Ella was too focused on trying to do all the tricks some she was successful on some fell flat. She wasn’t believable. And  I didn’t like her styling.

Jade her tone is so annoying I just can’t get into that.

Oh and Kye made me feel uncomfortable. He was like a little boy trying to be a rock star. He just didn’t have enough passion/energy for that song.

Lucy- had okay vocals but they barely registered b/c I was focused on the arrangement of the song. I was just like what is she doing. Is this bad is it good is it just different umm it’s strange.

District 3 another round of poor vocals I find their tone unpleasant. Maybe it was nerves but they sounded it’s hard to describe nasaly squeaky, trembley. And they felt tiny on the stage as well as awkward.

Jahmene has no personality. Vocals were okay nothing to write home about, just not impressed.

MK1 was disappointing. It just didn’t work. Charlie sounded better vocally but the guy sounded stupid. It was a mess they tried to make it urban and failed miserably.

Christopher was cheesey and his vocals were okay. But he does come off as fake and why do the judges continue to say he’s a great/amazing singer that’s just a lie.

And Finally Rylan can’t sing at all and you know what I reached the point that I don’t care if he stays in knocking off the others as long as it’s not Union J and James Authur  and I guess Melanie b/c she’s growing on me. Oh and two other acts which could bug me if they went before rylan Ella and Mk1 unless they continue w/ poor performances. I’d like to think tonight was a fluke they can still win me back b/c I saw so much potential in them. Besides them the rest of the acts are boring, bad or not my style.

One more important note Louis should let his acts choose their own songs his picks are horrible/crazy/poor.

The videos are up on Youtube, except for Rylan’s. I’m reading on twitter that ITV1+1 didn’t show parts of his performance because of copyright issues. The problem is that Rylan changed Gangnam Style lyrics to Rylan Style. Or maybe they are editing the video and it takes a while.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake Williams

This is definitely the worst lineup ever on the UK show. Hating this season fast. Reminds me of Season 9′s idol. Even Ella sucked.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

What a snoozefest. This week was so bad that the boy band with 4 guys was one of the best of the night. lol

The curse of the ninth season!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NDYOWBIIPZU6PBRHGOPT2ZZJXQ sweetmm

I switched on for Ella’s voice and Rylan entertainment :)  Glad Union J improved, at least they deserved the votes coming their way.

  • Mateja Praznik

Thanks, added. They did edit out “Rylan Style”.

  • http://twitter.com/1outside Maj

So underwhelming. I don’t think I actually loved anyone this week. :-(

  • http://twitter.com/1outside Maj

    feel EXACTLY the same way.

  • alain arias

    1 Ella 2 Lucy 3 Melanie

    the rest is very average
