The Fix Factor

Song spoilers:
James: “The Power of Love” & “One”
Jahmene: “At Last” & “I Look To You”
Chris: “You Raise Me Up” & “Haven’t Met You Yet”
Union J: “I’m Already There” & “Beneath Your Beautiful”

No sing off tomorrow night! As always, the voting starts right away.

First round: Song dedicated to someone else

1. Christopher Maloney – “You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban

Oh dear. Chris’ nan is back.
Chris’ vocals are strong, but this is so boring. So boring. So boring. And cheesy. With a choir. My feed is jumping a bit.
Nicole: That is a very hard song to sing. It was powerful, it was amazing. Next time, I would like to feel it more. You sounded great, but I didn’t feel the performance.
Louis: That is a Westlife song, not Josh Groban. You are in the semifinal. When I close my eyes, I seen you in the West End.
Tulisa: i think you’ve done everything you possibly can to get to the final.
Gary: Wow. Josh Groban did the original recording.

2. Jahmene Douglas – “I Look To You” by Whitney Houston

Jahmene is dedicating this song to his dead brother.
Jahmene also gets a choir! Who isn’t getting one? I don’t think this was a great vocal performance. He just didn’t sell it.
Louis: That was so emotional, there is no way you are going back to ASDA, you are going to a recording studio.
Tulisa: You always sing beautifully, but this was exceptional
Gary: That must have taken a large amount of courage, well done.
Nicole: I surrender. [Breaks down in tears and starts talking nonsense.]

3. Union J – “Beneath Your Beautiful” by Labrinth & Emeli Sande

They were in the bottom two last week and they like nothing they do is good enough.
Tulisa: I really really liked this performance.
Gary: Brilliant performance.
Nicole: I agree with Gary and Tulisa …
Louis: Next big boyband: UNION J

4. James Arthur – “One” by U2

He is dedicating this to his sisters and brother.
And this is how “One” sounds with a bit of dubstep and a choir. This wasn’t a great vocal performance, sorry.
Louis: Every week you bring something unique and original. This time next year you will have 3 or 4 albums out there.
Tulisa: Why shouldn’t the credible musician win?
Gary: Another amazing performance tonight!
Nicole: Every time you get on that stage, we can see how much you want this.

Second round: Song to get them to the final

1. Jahmene Douglas – “At Last” by Etta James
This is his audition song. And Nicole shows him her “Popstars” audition.
Better than his first performance, but it’s still very boring.
Louis: You are world class, boring to sing, you are incredible, jahmazing, wonderful…
Tulisa. You’ve always been very consistend, tonight you completely nailed it…
Gary: That was jahmazing!
Nicole: That, that that note! Get out of here! That was jahmazing!

2. Christopher Maloney – “Haven’t Met You Yet” by Michael Buble

Chris wants to prove everyone that he can be current, so he will sing us some Michael Buble to prove how current he can be.
Strong vocals, but he is just a cruise ship singer.
Nicole: Oh Chris, it is the semi finals and I don’t think this was your best performance.
Louis: I loved your first song Chris. But that was back to the karaoke thing for me. That was the wrong song choice.
Tulisa: That was not your strongest performance.
Gary: It’s all about showing how versatile you are.

3. Union J – “I’m Already There” by Lonestar

Louis’ boyband Westlife recorded a cover of this song. JLS performed this under Louis’ mentorship in season 5 semifinal.
This song symbolises Union J and Louis Walsh working as a team. YIKES. Boys wear onesies and Louis doesn’t like them.
Anyway, this is a bit boring, but good vocal performance.
Tulisa: Sounded vocally really good tonight on both song choices. This one was a little safe.
Gary: Nice performance, nice vocals, but extremely safe.
Nicole: Boys, I loved it.
Louis: I need votes!

4. James Arthur – “The Power of Love” by Frankie Goes To Hollywood

This is a very strategic song choice as Gabrielle Aplin’s cover of this song is currently charting high in the UK.
James says X Factor saved his life.
Oh look, another song gets a dubstep treatment. Gabrielle Aplin’s cover is better than this.
Louis: You are original, you are credible and you’ve got the X Factor.
Tulisa: I’m so proud of being a part of this show. I want to hear next week: “The winner of X Factor 2012 is James Arthur.”
Gary: That was the performance of the series.
Nicole: That was performance was brilliant, amazing …

Tomorrow night: Rod Stewart, Pink and Tulisa perform.

i like some of the songs for todays show . here is a link.

  • kcostell

I suppose it’s too much to hope that James is performing Huey Lewis and Metallica instead of Celine Dion and U2?

  • Oldhag

So, apparently the “be nice to Christopher” rumors are true.  They would have been better served to have done this weeks ago.

Did Maloney dedicated his song to his nan?

    He’s in the finals. lol

  • davedpg

Judging by the comments for the Ronseal men, he should be going tomorrow.

  • Oldhag

I don’t understand why Union J doesn’t get more love.  The best singer in the whole contest is Jaymi and Josh is pretty good too.

  • http://www.facebook.com/bill.mitchell.3954546 Bill Mitchell

Jayme with Union J is the BEST singer in the competition and it’s not even close.

  • Listening

Darn it I just got here and just missed Union J’s performance and they
were apparently really good. Now I gotta wait for the youtube vids to
pop up. Them and James are the only to acts I care about. But if they’re
in the bottom 2 against anyone else but Chris they’re going home.

Beneath Your Beautiful is a real pretty song and moving so i’m really excited to see how they handled it.

James – I don’t know but I think this was terrible.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/5HGXDY5SA4QJRME7OQJXRJYE4M James M.

That Fix Factor comic is hilarious.

And geez, I keep reading about Chris’s nan and thinking “Chris’s man”.

  • Oldhag

Did not care for James too much.  He sounds like he’s spitting on some of the notes.  I do give him marks for artistry. Haha- Gary was more complimentary to James than Chris.

  • Listening

Umm I usually love James but he didn’t push hard enough w/ One . He
needed to show more passion w/ it and he strained a bit vocally as well.. It fell a little bit short your like almost but not quite.

  • Karen C

I think of the ones that are left James is the most original, and I liked him the best, though not my favorite from him.

  • http://twitter.com/sonnileeann ?SonniLeeann?

I love James, just didn’t like that performance very much. He still deserves to win.

  • Listening

Jahmene’s At Last performance was just okay. He missed some notes and put to many runs in it. Just sing it pure w/ a few selective runs. It was better in the begging he had better control of his vocals but he quickly lost it as the song went on.

  • Listening

Why did Christopher sing Haven’t Met You Yet which is  a talking song, it’s stifling his vocals. He has to hit the power notes and extended pure notes to showcase himself. This was a terrible song choice.

  • Listening

Hmmm I really wasn’t feeling  Junion J’s performance of I’m Already There. It didn’t feel good that arrangement felt wrong. And it was boring.

  • Oldhag

That’s the first time I haven’t like a Union J performance since week 1. That probably doesn’t bode too well for the boys, which is too bad because they are talented.

  • Listening

Oh man George had another goofy smile on his face as their numbers were read. You could be punching that boy in the face and he’d still be smiling.

He sounded good though in his little solo but that boy smiles way to much.

  • Listening

I’m melting here Jame’s performance of The Power Of Love was great. The tone that beautiful tone was shining through. I totally felt the emotion there. The echo was a tad excessive but I looked past that to his voice. I wanted it to last longer

  • Oldhag

It is interesting that Jahmene and James had their best performances in round 2 and Union J and Chris had their best in round 1.  Union J is screwed, I expect them to be kicked off tomorrow.  I’d swear I’ll quit watching as a result but I know that would be a lie, but I sure will miss them.

They might as well crown James Arthur winner. Although, I’d be a little leary were I him, we’ve seen how well they have done with “credible artists” in the past.

  • elliegrll

No Louis, did not sit up there and say that was a Westlife song.  I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt, and believe that he was just trying to give a shout out to his guys.

  • elliegrll

Did you see him smiling, when he was supposed to be singing harmony with the other guys?  I wonder if the other three have conversations about why George is in the group.

  • wordnerdarchie

Just shoot me now, but I have to say that I liked Union J the best tonight. (I’m turning in my music appreciation card.)

  • Listening

I would love for both James and Union J to make it to the finals. I don’t care if either Chris or Jahmene leaves tomorrow just not one of them. James and Union J were two of my favorites right at the start of the show.

But most likely they’re the bottom two Union  J have been in the bottom multiple times. I simple never understood that, they appear to be the most popular on twitter. They have tons of followers and always trend. But they’ve been in the bottom so much James has been in the bottom as well.

  • jdanton2

Jahmene is by far the best one in my opinion . Whitney and Etta are probably smiling down from above. James needs to leave. He sounds horrible.

  • Listening

Finally got to hear Union J sing Beneath Your Beautiful that was probably their best performance they weren’t overwhelmed by Jaymi and they blended well together. And i’m glad they’re showcasing Josh more he has a nice voice and he’s not overpowering as Jaymi can be at times. Jaymi has to really control that powerful beast of a voice he has to make it work perfectly with the others. You can’t just unleash Jaymi’s power vocals all over the place or else the group feels unbalanced. They have to structure the right power moments in a song achieve the perfect blend of power Jaymi and the rest.

One more thing I am dying to hear what JJ ( the guy who never gets a solo) sounds like just by himself. It’s so reminiscent of how Nial and Louis didn’t sing much during 1D’s X- Factor performances. I’m sure they both sang a little at least once. JJ has never sang by himself. Come on doesn’t he want to, i’m sure he could of gone up to Louis at least once and said please please pleaaasssse let me sing a bit by myself and they would of let him.

  • Klaine

I assume the UK show doesnt have double eliminations every week like the US show has done…Guess they didnt want to pay Mario & Khloe too much

  • http://twitter.com/Barb0603 Barbara Rodriguez

Ok so should I know the second song James sang it’s not here in the states right ?? Whatever it doesn’t matter … It is now my new FAVORITE now James’ performance brought tears to my eyes INCREDIBLE !!! I hope the UK votes tonight and tomorrow !

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NDYOWBIIPZU6PBRHGOPT2ZZJXQ sweetmm

The pimping of James Arthur & bashing of Christopher Maloney may just backfire; Christopher might just win the votes as a sign that the public gives a finger up to the show ;)

  • Whatiswrongwithus

James Arthur’s second performance was pure genius. It gave me “goosies” hehe. But the echo on that song was a bit too obvious lol.

  • springboard2

I don’t understand why the producers pimp Jahmene so much. He is a yet another not very good power ballad singer. 75% karaoke.
Chris went from 75% karaoke with his first song to 100%  with the second.
James was not very good at all. His style feels like a gimmick now.
Union J are bland but they are the only good singers left in the competition.

    Terrible, terrible show.
