First round: Song dedicated to someone else

1. Christopher Maloney – “You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban

Oh dear. Chris’ nan is back.
Chris’ vocals are strong, but this is so boring. So boring. So boring. And cheesy. With a choir. My feed is jumping a bit.
Nicole: That is a very hard song to sing. It was powerful, it was amazing. Next time, I would like to feel it more. You sounded great, but I didn’t feel the performance.
Louis: That is a Westlife song, not Josh Groban. You are in the semifinal. When I close my eyes, I seen you in the West End.
Tulisa: i think you’ve done everything you possibly can to get to the final.
Gary: Wow. Josh Groban did the original recording.

2. Jahmene Douglas – “I Look To You” by Whitney Houston

Jahmene is dedicating this song to his dead brother.
Jahmene also gets a choir! Who isn’t getting one? I don’t think this was a great vocal performance. He just didn’t sell it.
Louis: That was so emotional, there is no way you are going back to ASDA, you are going to a recording studio.
Tulisa: You always sing beautifully, but this was exceptional
Gary: That must have taken a large amount of courage, well done.
Nicole: I surrender. [Breaks down in tears and starts talking nonsense.]

3. Union J – “Beneath Your Beautiful” by Labrinth & Emeli Sande

They were in the bottom two last week and they like nothing they do is good enough.
OMG. THEY ABSOLUTELLY NAILED IT. That was great.
Tulisa: I really really liked this performance.
Gary: Brilliant performance.
Nicole: I agree with Gary and Tulisa …
Louis: Next big boyband: UNION J

4. James Arthur – “One” by U2

He is dedicating this to his sisters and brother.
And this is how “One” sounds with a bit of dubstep and a choir. This wasn’t a great vocal performance, sorry.
Louis: Every week you bring something unique and original. This time next year you will have 3 or 4 albums out there.
Tulisa: Why shouldn’t the credible musician win?
Gary: Another amazing performance tonight!
Nicole: Every time you get on that stage, we can see how much you want this.

Second round: Song to get them to the final

1. Jahmene Douglas – “At Last” by Etta James
This is his audition song. And Nicole shows him her “Popstars” audition.
Better than his first performance, but it’s still very boring.
Louis: You are world class, boring to sing, you are incredible, jahmazing, wonderful…
Tulisa. You’ve always been very consistend, tonight you completely nailed it…
Gary: That was jahmazing!
Nicole: That, that that note! Get out of here! That was jahmazing!

2. Christopher Maloney – “Haven’t Met You Yet” by Michael Buble

Chris wants to prove everyone that he can be current, so he will sing us some Michael Buble to prove how current he can be.
Strong vocals, but he is just a cruise ship singer.
Nicole: Oh Chris, it is the semi finals and I don’t think this was your best performance.
Louis: I loved your first song Chris. But that was back to the karaoke thing for me. That was the wrong song choice.
Tulisa: That was not your strongest performance.
Gary: It’s all about showing how versatile you are.

3. Union J – “I’m Already There” by Lonestar

Louis’ boyband Westlife recorded a cover of this song. JLS performed this under Louis’ mentorship in season 5 semifinal.
This song symbolises Union J and Louis Walsh working as a team. YIKES. Boys wear onesies and Louis doesn’t like them.
Anyway, this is a bit boring, but good vocal performance.
Tulisa: Sounded vocally really good tonight on both song choices. This one was a little safe.
Gary: Nice performance, nice vocals, but extremely safe.
Nicole: Boys, I loved it.
Louis: I need votes!

4. James Arthur – “The Power of Love” by Frankie Goes To Hollywood

This is a very strategic song choice as Gabrielle Aplin’s cover of this song is currently charting high in the UK.
James says X Factor saved his life.
Oh look, another song gets a dubstep treatment. Gabrielle Aplin’s cover is better than this.
Louis: You are original, you are credible and you’ve got the X Factor.
Tulisa: I’m so proud of being a part of this show. I want to hear next week: “The winner of X Factor 2012 is James Arthur.”
Gary: That was the performance of the series.
Nicole: That was performance was brilliant, amazing …

Tomorrow night: Rod Stewart, Pink and Tulisa perform.
