X Factor UK Season 9: First Live Show

140 minutes, 13 performances …

Finally, we and the final 12 made it to the live shows. This weeks’ theme is “Olympics”. Several Team GB heroes will appear tonight. Even One Direction boys will grace The X Factor’s stage. TOP 12 finalists and one wildcard will perform tonight. The voting for the 4 wildcards ended around noon UK time today. I think Christopher Maloney will get the 13th spot.

Sadly we don’t have the complete song list tonight.

Rylan Clarke: Spandau Ballet – “Gold”

This is it! The intro! Choreographer Brian Friedman is back on XF UK!

Dermot O’ Leary dances in to Gangnam Style! The 4 judges are next! And they are introduced TWICE. Gary Barlow now sits between Tulisa and Nicole Scherzinger.

Time to reveal who is the lucky wildcard. And it’s Chris Maloney. Gary Barlow has 4 acts. Chris is overwhelmed. The other 12 finalists join him on stage. The voting lines are open NOW. Dermot and the voice over guy introduce the finalists and their numbers.

Tonight’s theme is “Heroes”.

District3: Tina Turner – “Simply the Best”

They used to call themselves GMD3. They stand on a platform and sing … Tina Turner’s “Simply the Best”, as a ballad. That’s ARTISTRY! WOW. Kinda nice, no hiding behind the backing track for this group.
Tulisa: Amazing vocals, brilliant song choice.
Gary: Well done boys.
Nicole: Harmonies were on point, you have sweet tone together.
Louis: The boys did the arrangement themselves.

Time to pimp One Direction! the boys enter the studio. Time to give the current crop some wise advice.

James Arthur: Kelly Clarkson – “Stronger”

X Factor’s stylists did their job with James …
James stands on a platfom and sings stripped down “Stronger”. Yep, Kelly Clarkson. And now he is rapping. No big production so far. The stage looks kinda empty and James looks out of place.
Louis: We found a recording artist.
Tulisa: You are a recording artist.
Gary: Retain your integrity. Say no, disagree. Stand strong. Predictable song choice.
Nicole: Disagrees with Gary.

Melanie Masson: The Beatles – “With a Little Help From my Friends”

Her husband brings their childern to the posh hotel to see their mother.
Melanie stands on a platform and sings “With a Little Help From my Friends”. She sounds great, but the backing track and back vocalists seem really loud.
Nicole: Brilliant, that’s what X Factor is about. Predictable song choice.
Louis: Powerful, like Woodstock.
Tulisa: Well done, one of the strongest vocals.
Gary: Thanks for giving credibility back to this category.

Lucy Spraggan: Original song – Mountains

Well, I guess she won’t have to sing a cover, ever. Brian wants her to put her guitar away during the performance. No go, she is a true WGWG. Female Ed Sheeran. She sings, plays guitar, stands on a platform.
Gary: Unique artist.
Nicole: Brilliant storyteller.
Louis: I hope it wasn’t a gamble.
Tulisa: True artist, bla bla.

MK1: Chris Brown/Hot Chocolate – Champions/Everyone’s a Winner mash-up

First real production number. Lots of rapping and shouting. Girl’s vocals are kind of a mess.
Tulisa: Charlie, you don’t have the strongest voice in the competition. But nice job.
Gary: Well done. Great energy.
Nicole: One of the most relevant acts in the competition.
Louis: Relevant, energetic, next N-Dubz!

Christopher Maloney: Mariah Carey – “Hero”

Poor guy was so crushed after he got a no from Gary. He sings Mariah Carey’s “Hero”. Oh dear. He does a competent job, but he’s just not relevant. I guess his grandma will love it.
Nicole: Amazing, but a little bit cheesy. It was uplifting.
Louis: Very heartfelt.
Tulisa: Dated song choice. Amazing voice.
Gary: Congratulations. We couldn’t pick the song this week. We will work on this next week.

Union J: Queen – “Don’t Stop Me Now”

Boys stand on a platform and sing … Oh, Queen. And female dancers. I’m not feeling this performance. A mess. Damn, Louis is going to ruin the groups this year.
Tulisa: It pains me to say this, but I didn’t like it. Bad vocals, bad song choice.
Gary: Louis, you destroyed them!
Nicole: I have to agree with Tulisa and Gary.
Louis: We are going to work harder next week.

Jade Ellis: Enrique Iglesias – “Hero”

Jade finds it hard to be away from her daughter.
I’m not feeling this. The backing track is loud and Jade’s voice got a bit lost.
Gary: I’m sure we will see you next week.
Nicole: Amazing tone, but the song was in a wrong key.
Louis: You looks like a popstar.
Tulisa. You look and sound like a popstar.

Team GB medalists are in the house!

Rylan Clark – Spandau Ballet – “Gold”

Vile comments on the web brought him down. The performance: Big production number. Very flamboyant. Fun.
Louis: That was amazing. You are not a great singer, but you are a good singer. Nicole, you did the right thing when you picked him for the live shows. Amazing production from Brian Friedman.
Tulisa: Cheesy, cabare, but it was good.
Gary: I was having fun until you started singing tonight.
Nicole: Brings up Take That’s “Do What You Like”.

Kye Sones: Michael Jackson – “Man in the Mirror”

It’s just Kye with a mic stand on stage. It’s not bad, but “Man in the Mirror” is such an epic song and Kye is no Michael Jackson. But he did a good job.
Nicole: You worked very hard for this moment. Take it all in.
Louis: Incredible performance.
Tulisa: Backing track was a bit too bubbly, great vocals.
Gary: The production spent the budget on Rylan, next week you get double.

Ella Henderson: Take That – Rule the World

Eek, Ella is doing one of Take That’s big hits. Gary and company performed this during the Olympics closing ceremony.
Gary: Absolutely stunning! 16 years old! Absolutely extraordinary.
Nicole. No words. You are from another planet.
Louis: Best singer on the show since Leona Lewis.
Tulisa: Only 16 and you stood there tonight and nailed it!

Carolynne Poole: Nicki Minaj – “Starships”

Carolynne is country? At least what Gary understands as country. And she sings a “country version” of Nicki Minaj’s “Starships”. BLOODY HELL. BLOODY HELL. That’s what the UK understands as country?
Nicole: Very bold song choice. You did your thing. Strong vocals.
Louis: You could be the UK version of Shania Twain.
Tulisa: You look stunning tonight. Strange song choice for this theme.
Gary: Brilliant performance. Well done.

Jahmene Douglas: John Lennon – “Imagine”

Ohh, this is supposed to be a show stopper? Candles, choir, key change. I’m not digging the arrangement. The beginning was nice, but then it lost me.
Louis: I’m so glad Nicole picked you. You are amazing. You don’t have the confidence, but you have the talent.
Tulisa: You have one of the best male singers ever on this show.
Gary: Don’t oversing.
Nicole: You’ve found your balls. I just want to squeeze you.

And this is it: Leona Lewis and Ne-Yo perform tomorrow and we will say goodbye to one act.

No need to go wild! The X Factor’s Christopher Maloney is overcome with joy at being picked for the live show
After a week of campaigning in the hopes to become an official finalist on the ninth series of The X Factor wildcard Christopher Maloney proved victorious.

Maloney managed to beat other wildcard contestants Amy Mattrom, Adam Burridge and boyband Times Red.

But it wasn’t Christopher’s shock win that surprised the audience, instead it was his somewhat over the top reaction to the news in which viewers witnessed him fall to the floor and burst into tears.

‘You show everyone how it is done!’ Ella Henderson,16, steals the first live X Factor show with her incredible vocals and unanimous praise from the judges
She might be the youngest person in the competition but after tonight’s stellar performance Ella Henderson proved that she is most definitely a strong contender to win.

The Grimsby-born teenager wowed the judges with her spectacular rendition of Take That’s Rule The World on the first live show of the 2012 series.

Her mentor Tulisa Contostavlos was full of praise for her young protégé and said: ‘You show everyone how it is done,’ before adding: ‘You nailed it’.

In August Tulisa Contostavlos made the brave admission that her fellow judge Nicole Scherzinger knew better than her in regards to stylish picks.

And tonight on the first live show of The X Factor, Tulisa made that revelation a reality when she took to the spotlight in an unflattering navy gown.

Nicole on the other hand put her trim figure on display in a form fitting black mini-dress which was made up of sheer panels.
