It was a TOP 11 performance night last night, but only 10 acts performed. Miss Dynamix member SeSe Foster had a panic attack not long before the start of the show and was hospitalized. She is also almost 6 months pregnant, but the hospitalization really had nothing to do with the pregnancy. The producers gave Miss Dynamix a bye, so we will see them back on the show next week, unless they drop out of the competition or something.
The remaining 10 acts sang songs of love & heartache. At the end of the show, boyband Kingsland Road lost the flash vote and will sing for survival in a sing off. Obviously, their survival mostly depends on who else ends up in the sing-off tonight.
If Kingsland Road leave tonight, Gary Barlow ends up with Rough Copy and Miss Dynamix. And let’s face it, Miss Dynamix probably won’t stay around for much longer, so effectively, Kingsland Road’s departure means Gary is left with Rough Copy only really early in the competition.
I also think TPTB would like to see Kingsland Road make the X Factor Live tour. Traditionally, TOP 8 acts are guaranteed a spot on the tour. In seasons 7 and 8 the 9th act was added to the line-up while last year the tour featured only 7 acts as Lucy Spraggan refused the tour invitation. So basically, I think TPTB would like Kingsland Road to at least finish 9th.
Personally, I would like to see Abi Alton in the sing-off tonight. She had a terrible night last night and is easily the worst singer in the competition. Then there is Shelley, who was okay last night, but obviously doesn’t have a career of a recording artist in front of her. Sure, Shelley’s departure in week 2 would mean that Sharon Osbourne ends up with only 1 act early on, but the overs are a fodder category anyway. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sam Callahan, Luke Friend or Rough Copy end up in the bottom tonight.

Cold open.

Katy Perry and Robin Thicke perform tonight.

Dermot O’Leary enters. The judges follow.

The Finalists sing Avicii’s “Wake Me Up”. The song has sold over 1 million copies in the UK and is on it’s way to 2X Platinum certification (1.2 million).

NEXT: RECAP of last night’s events.

Time for Robin Thicke. He performs the song of 2013, “Blurred Lines“. He has about two dozen ladies in bathing suits on stage. Lord have mercy.

5 minute warning!

Commercial break.

Lines are now closed.

Dermot interviews the judges. They think Shelley and Abi are in trouble tonight.

KATY PERRY. She sold 11 million albums and 81 million singles worldwide. So far. Her album is out tomorrow in the UK.
She sounds good on the chorus, but the verses … Yikes. She is also wearing cat ears.

Dermot asks her if she would consider joining the panel. She tries to say no politely and says something about constructive criticism (judges make weird faces), but then she remembers she said yes to Niall Horan (One Direction) at his Dublin arena audition when she was a guest judge in season 7. She has fond memories of that stint.

Time for the results. Kingsland Road are already waiting on stage. The judges and their acts enter.

Safe:
Rough Copy
Hannah Barrett
Sam Bailey
Luke Friend
Tamera Foster
Nicholas McDonald
Abi Alton
Sam Callahan

Shelley Smith is in the sing-off. Second week in a row.

Kingsland Road sing Pink’s “Try”. Sounds uplifting.

Shelley Smith sings Jamelia’s “Stop”. Technically good, but a bit old fashioned. I’m bored.

Gary: sends home Shelley Smith.
Sharon: sends home Kingsland Road.
Nicole: sends home Shelley Smith.
Louis: sends home Shelley Smith.
Sharon’s pleading didn’t help.

Shelley Smith goes home. Buh-Bye. Kingsland Road needed to win this vote 3-1 and they got it.

Sharon Osbourne lost 2 acts in the first 2 weeks. Sam Bailey is now her only hope.

Next week: The Wanted and Lady Gaga

Shelley Smith becomes the second act voted off The X Factor… despite Sharon Osbourne’s VERY forward attempts to get Louis Walsh to keep her in the show
Shelley Smith became the second act to be voted off The X Factor on Sunday night.

The 34-year-old singer, who had also competed in the sing-off the week before, failed to pull in the votes after her performance of Beyoncé’s Single Ladies on Saturday night.

Her exit means that judge Sharon Osbourne is left with only one contestant in her category – Sam Bailey.
