Last night … it was a poor night for Nicholas McDonald. He performed poorly both times, went first, got some bad comments … But I don’t think he is danger tonight. According to the voting leaks, he won the televoting in week 2 and week 6. He is a force to be reckoned with.
If he wins, I fully expect him to go the Leon Jackson/Joe McElderry route. That is, Christmas #1 single right after the finale and a flop album next year. He is not a popstar and I don’t see how Syco could turn him into one by next fall. We saw little Nick watch old Justin Bieber music videos last night and somehow I don’t think that is going to help him find his identity. He is just a young, pleasant, ballad-singing boy. Magnet for mothers, grandmothers and teens that vote on the X Factor, but by now we know all too well how this type of a contestant does post show. Poorly.

Sam Bailey was vocally solid, as always. Her first performance was very cruise ship and dated. With the second one, she went for the Adele moment with Emeli Sande’s song.
Sam’s post-show prospects as a major label recording artist aren’t good, either. She is simply too old and too dated.

Rough Copy served us a double does of R. Kelly. The second performance was probably a huge crowd-pleaser, even though it was cheesy as hell. I actually preferred their first performance because it reminded me of the good old days when seasons were full of energetic and production heavy performances.
I can see a gap on the market for an edgy urban boyband, but the X Factor took all the edginess from the guys. Probably not to scare off white, middle-aged and older viewers? It’s sad because the guys actually had an aura of coolness during bootcamp. But the song choices during the live shows left a lot to be desired.
They were in the bottom 2 last week, so I expect their fanbase to vote as crazy.

Luke Friend had a good night last night. I didn’t like the song choices, but I think his performances were solid. I definitely think TPTB prefer Luke over Nicholas, but I doubt Luke can outlast Nick.
I’m not sure about Luke’s post-show prospects. He is acoustic folk/rock singer-songwriter. the problem is, we know nothing about his songwriting abilities and singer-songwriters from these talent shows usually fail to break through in the music business. It’s one thing to re-arrange beloved hits and sing them well on a TV show and completely another to write songs good enough to become beloved hits.

Tamera Foster … well, she made it through both performances with no lyric flubs, but at this point I don’t think it’s enough. Her second performance was really fine. Her fanbase saved her from the bottom 2 in the previous two weeks when she forgot the lyrics. This week, the performances went fine, so her fanbase could become complacent.
The reality is, Tamera is the one Syco could package as a popstar by the next fall the easiest. However, she is not as likeable as the little Nick, Sam B or Luke, so she is a smaller vote-bait.

James Arthur and Rebecca Ferguson perform tonight.

Cold open. Video intro. Louis is the only judge with two acts left. I know it’s hard to grasp that.

The judges are all in black. I think Nicole’s dress is fabulous.

TOP 5 sing Ellie Goulding’s “Burn”.

Time for a recap.

Rebecca Ferguson performs “I Hope“. Her sophomore album “Freedom” is out tomorrow.

5 minute warning!

Commercial break.

The lines are now closed. One Direction blocked Gary Barlow from #1 on the UK’s album charts.

James Arthur is performing next. His winner’s single went to #1 in 34 countries? He is singing his new single “Recovery“. According to James’ sister, James thinks worldwide success has damaged him.

Results after the break.

Video of the TOP 5, explaining how proud they are to make it this far, etc.

The Results!

Safe:
Rough Copy
Sam Bailey
Nicholas McDonald

Bottom 2:
Tamera Foster
Luke Friend

Tamera Foster sings “The Voice Within” by Christina Aguilera.

Luke Friend sings “Run” by Snow Patrol.

Nicole sends home Luke Friend.
Louis sends home Tamera Foster.
Sharon sends home Tamera Foster.
Gary sends home Luke Friend and sends the vote to deadlock.

Tamera Foster is going home.

Tamera Foster misses out on a place in The X Factor semi-final to Luke Friend after judges send the vote to DEADLOCK
Tamera Foster has narrowly missed out on a place in The X Factor semi-final.

The talented teen lost a sing-off to Luke Friend after the pair pulled in the lowest number of votes from the public after their performances on Saturday night’s show.

While the 16-year-old starlet was saved by her mentor Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh voted to keep Luke in the competition, and head judge Gary Barlow decided it was only right to put the decision back in the hands of the viewers by sending the vote to deadlock.

Utterly sch-mazing! Nicole Scherzinger brings A-list glamour to The X Factor in a plunging semi-sheer gown slashed to the navel AND the thigh
She turned on the Hollywood glamour in a slinky backless sequin gown on Saturday night’s episode of The X Factor.

But Nicole Scherzinger managed to outdo herself in the sartorial stakes as she took to the stage for Sunday night’s results show.

The 35-year-old singer brought A-list glamour to the TV talent contest as she showcased her positively incredible figure in a dramatic plunging semi-sheer gown that was slashed to both the navel and the thigh with mesh panels.
