First, a big congratulations to X Factor judge Cheryl Fernandez Versini! She collected her 5th solo UK #1 single today! She now holds the record for the most UK Number 1s for a British female artist.

We start with another cold open. Sam Smith and One Direction perform tonight. Well One Direction pre-taped their performance last weekend.

Dermot introduces the judges. The phone lines are still open.

TOP 9 perform Take That’s “Never Forget” and they even get a choir. Season 7’s TOP 3 performed this with Take That on the finale.

It’s time for a long recap. YAWN.

Sam Smith is here! He is performing his new UK single “Like I Can”.

The voting is now over. After the break, One Direction’s performance!

Hmm, the break is over and the judges and the contestants arrived on stage. I admit the ITV Player was acting up for me in the last few minutes. When we came back from the break, the stream improved.

It’s time for the results!

Safe:
Stereo Kicks
Fleur East
Ben Haenow
Andrea Faustini
Lauren Platt
Stevi Ritchie

Only The Young, Paul Akister and Jay James are left on stage. And the final act definitely safe will be revealed later in the show.

BTW MTV EMA awards are happening right now and will start airing as soon as the X Factor ends. One Direction have so far won “Biggest Fans” and “Best Pop” awards. They have one other nomination, for “Best Live Act”.

We are back. Louis, Mel B and Simon have acts still in danger. The judges are sitting behind their desk again.

Finally, it’s time for One Direction. They sold 47 million records so far and are X Factor’s biggest discovery ever. They are performing “Steal My Girl”. We will probably see them performing on the finale, too.

More results after the break!

We are back. The final act definitely returning next week is Only The Young!

Bottom 2:
Paul Akister
Jay James

Paul Akister sings Emeli Sande’s “Clown”. The song is about an artist selling out. What a fitting song choice.

Jay James sings “Tears in Heaven” by Eric Clapton.

DECISION TIME!

Simon sends home Paul Akister.
Mel B sends home Jay James.
Cheryl sends home Jay James.
Louis sends it to deadlock! He sends home Paul Akister.

DEADLOCK!

Paul Akister is leaving us tonight. DAMN, Louis just ruined Paul’s life once again.

Next week: Big Band week. Olly Murs and Nicole Scherzinger are scheduled to perform.

Melanie B publicly shunned X Factor host Dermot O’Leary on Saturday night.

The former Spice Girl was left furious when her act, Paul Akister, lost the all-important sing-off to Jay James.

Rushing onto the stage to embrace him as he wept, Dermot asked Mel to offer a comment about the ruling – to which she responded ‘Are you kidding me?’ and left the host with awkward dead air.

Not so much ‘deadlock’ as ‘brain dead’. Pointless sing off and spineless judges send Paul Akister home. Another horror weekend for the X Factor, by JIM SHELLEY
The judges on The X Factor were all agreed that the ‘Sing Off’ between Paul Akister and Jay James was one of the best the show has ever had but over-looked the fact that it was also pointless, as so many of them are.

As always, two of the judges voted for their own acts and the final judge – in this case Louis Walsh – bottled out of making the crucial decision, letting the matter go to ‘deadlock.’

As the public had already spoken on the basis of Saturday’s show, it meant Akister’s best efforts – and some say his best performance (‘Clown’ by Emeli Sande) – were in vain.

One Direction returned to the place where it all began, this weekend.

The world’s biggest-selling band of the moment took to the stage of The X Factor on Saturday night for a live performance.

Greeted by a screaming crowd, the boys – Harry, Niall, Zayn, Liam and Louis – joined forces to show Melanie B and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini that it was all about boy power, not girl power.

‘He wimped out’: Mel B blames Louis Walsh for not choosing to save Paul Akister on The X Factor
Melanie B was left furious when her act, Paul Akister, was sent home after his sing-off with Jay James on Sunday night.

And now the X Factor judge is blaming Louis Walsh for ‘wimping out’ from making a decision about who should leave the competition and for taking it to deadlock.

Speaking to The Sun, Mel explained: ‘Paul won the sing-off hands down. I said to Louis, “I am so angry at you, come on, don’t wimp out”. He told me to shut up. I won’t tell you what I said after that.’
